CHAPTER 02 : THE REBEL IN THE SAVANNAH PART 10
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
NORMAL POV
COURTYARD
" HYEEEAAARRRGH!"
"DORRYAAAAH!"
WHAM
Everyone gasped and gaped in awe and shock as they watched the two fighters duke it out. At first, Jack did his best to hold back his strength as he secretly did not wish to harm a girl…. He then realized what a mistake that was as Himari, not only easily dodged his punches, but in a swift move she grabbed his collar and did a Judo throw at him hurling him hard on the ground.
"FGNAH! WOW SHE'S STRONG!" Grim shouted in disbelief.
"Y-yeah…." Ace and Deuce muttered gulping nervously. Both were making a mental note, never to piss off Himari ever again.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
Jack lay on the ground looking stunned at the moment, surprise seemed to overcome the pain in his body. A shadow loomed above him and the wolfboy blinked twice before he looked up to see Himari calmly looking down at him in a rather calm and serious expression.
She then smiled and extended her hand out to him. Jack looked at it before slowly taking her hand and letting her help him stand up.
"Man…." Jack groaned out, "you just…. You just don't give an inch"
Himari smirked, "well…. You were pretty good too. Although I did warn you not to underestimate me."
Jack looked away feeling rather embarrassed as there was some truth in what she said.
Hoshiko gave a cheery grin as she already knew that her older sister would win, Tsukiko on the other hand just sighed in relief as the fight didn't escalate further.
"Man Hima…." Grim blurted out, " It's like every one of your punches rattled me to the core!"
Himari folded her arms and scoffed out, "Yeah well… it wasn't as hardcore as what I had experienced back from where I come from. Wolfy boy here went too easy on me!" She looked at the White-haired boy with a rather annoyed look.
"Sorry…" Jack muttered looking even more embarrassed, "You're right…. I was too easy on you…"
"Well… if it's any consolation to you… I also pulled back myself, I guess after I could see your hesitation I didn't feel right to go all out either." Himari said.
"I think its better that way, Hima-nee" Hoshiko chimed in cheerily. "If you two went all out, the headmaster might not like that you both damaged his school." She also wanted to add 'and Jak Jak' but decided to keep it to herself as she felt it might hurt the wolf's pride.
Ace looked at Himari with both amazement and fear, "Yeesh Hima, you really can fight! It makes me wonder what you were like back in your world?"
Himari just gave a small laugh while scratching her cheek. Of course, only her sisters know about her reputation as the GOLDEN BEAST, one of the toughest fighters in her school. If she wanted to, she could have become the #1 gang leader of all time. (A.N. If she lived in the world of TOKYO REVENGER hehehe v0 ).
Jack looked at Himari and said, "All right, The path ahead is clear. I'll tell you what I know."
" 'The Path?' The path to what?" Ace asked looking at Jack in confusion.
"The path my heart's telling me to walk." Jack answered crossing his arms, "Remember, I'm betraying my own dorm here." His face then gave a deep frown as he growled out, "But… I can't be quiet any longer! I don't care how strong the foe is- I wanna face them with my own two fists! I've been training hard for this whole tournament. I was excited to see how far I could go. But these cowardly schemes are making me sick! A triumph won through treachery means nothing! I wanted to claim victory on the back of my own strength and skill, and fight to defend it!"
As Himari listened calmly to Jack's words, a small spark started to ignite within her. The wolf's passion, sense of justice, and fair play have given the girl a sense of motivation, something she has never felt before. Nevertheless…..
Ace shook his head and muttered, " I prefer talking to his fists." Deuce on the other hand got excited and cried out, "I get it! I know exactly what he means!"
Himari gave both Ace and Deuce a small bop on the head and spoke up, "Jack, as much as it is admirable how much you believe in good sportsmanship, it still doesn't change the fact that there were innocent people who got hurt in the process"
Behind her Tsukiko and Hoshiko both nodded in agreement.
Jack sighed as he silently agreed before saying, "Ruggie's signature spell- It makes its target copy Ruggie's movements. Since he's making the same movements as the person he's controlling, he's able to make it look like an accident on their part."
"Huh, so that's how he was able to get Grim to trade without getting caught." Ace replied, "He just put out his hand, and Grim put out his."
"That lousy, rotten… ARRGGH!" Grim angrily cried out, "Now I'm angry again! Food grudges never die!"
Hoshiko just giggled as she picked up the furry monster and gave a comforting hug saying, "Now now Grim chan no need to fuss over it anymore."
Deuce then asked, "But… if was mirroring the movements of someone about to fall down the stairs, surely someone would have noticed that?"
"Ruggie didn't cause the accidents by himself." Jack said, "Most of Savanaclaw was probably in on it too…"
"FGNAH!" Grim cried out
"How awful!" Tsukiko gasped out.
Jack frowned as he continued, "Like you said, someone would have noticed if he was near the targets and also mimicking their actions. I believe he escaped notice by surrounding himself with a wall of his dormmates."
Himari frowned while shaking her head as she muttered out, "Why am I not surprised."
"The whole dorm is in on it? But why?" Deuce asked still couldn't believe what he has heard.
"Well, duh!" Ace remarked, "How well they do at the Spelldrive tournament would make or break their careers. If that's their motive. Well, it isn't hard to understand where they're coming from."
Feeling anger at what Ace said, Jack let out a deep growl while baring his fangs at the red-haired student. Ace jumped back in fright as he exclaimed, "DUDE! Don't bare your fangs at me! I'm just connecting the dots!" Jack then scoffed out as he said, "Hmph! If they are not willing to show what they're capable of now, what does the future even matter?" He then gritted his teeth as he looked down and snarled, "I'm most disappointed with our Dorm leader, Leona Kingscholar. He has incredible talent, but refuses to even use it!"
"Yeah, for as lazy as that guy is… He seemed insanely strong." Grim said.
"RIGHT?!" Jack exclaimed, "Why would you possess such powers and not even hone it? I despise guys like him!" His face then changed to a sad expression as he continued, "The way he played when I saw him 3 years ago… it blew my mind. That was the reason I came to this school. I thought that if I joined Savanaclaw, he and I would be tearing up the Spelldrive field together."
"Hey Hima," Ace whispered to Himari, "He's pretty harsh when he talks about his dorm leader, but I'm starting to think…"
Himari nodded slowly and whispered, "That he actually respects that lazy ass jerk, yeah kinda thought so too."
Not hearing what the two were saying, Jack continued, "All these 'accidents' are just an incidental part of the plan. They're hunting bigger prey here."
"Bigger prey?" Tsukiko asked
"Malleus Draconia, the Diasomnia Dormleader," Jack said, "He possesses monstrous power. He led Diasomnia to victory two years running. He's the reason we were knocked out of both tournaments without scoring a single point. The other dorm members wont ever forgive that."
"Without a single point? For a dorm that usually wins the tournament, that had to hurt," Deuce said.
Jack sighed. "You know it. Our greatest moment of shame… broadcast to the whole world in real time." Jack said, "The upperclassmen want to redeem themselves, but the way they were doing it is despicable!"
Himari then recalled during the Dormheads meeting, how Leona showed great hostility at even the mention of Malleus' name. She frowned and crossed her arms and muttered out, "Geez, that guy… it's understandable that he felt frustrated over all those losses, but to involve others who are innocent into this…." She shook her head.
"So it all comes together on the day of the tournament," Ace said.
"Yep. And that's why I need to stop them!" Jack said his eyes filled with fierce determination.
"I believe I've heard enough"
All turned around to see Cater and Riddle standing a few distance.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
"Hello, Dorm Leader Rosehearts. Cater." Deuce greeted.
Himari gave a nod before saying, "So how much have you two heard?"
"I have heard enough to understand the whole situation," Riddle said as he walked next to Himari, He then turned to look at Jack as he continued, "As the Dormleader, I cannot allow such an important tradition to be tarnished by personal grudges."
"So what's the sitch, Riddle?" Cater asked, "We got a plan?"
"As we have no proof of Leona's machinations, nor of Ruggies assaults, we cannot take this to Crowley," said Riddle.
Himari nodded, "Yeah, without solid evidence, that sort of accusation would never stick to someone as sly as that jerk"
Ace looked at both of them as said, "So what you both are saying is that we need to catch him in the act?"
Riddle nodded and said, "Yes, and I have a suggestion to that end. First …."
"Stop." Jack interrupted, "I've told you what I know, but that doesn't mean I'm planning to join your merry band."
"Aww…. come on Jak jak…" Hoshiko pouted cutely, "aren't we friends now? Surely you want to help us stop this unfair play"
"Hoshiko chan is right, after everything we've been through together? The smiles and the tears?" Cater chimed in.
Jack glared at the two annoyingly as he said, "Savanaclaw is my dorm, and I'm gonna be the one to settle this. See ya." He then turned around and was about to walk away when a soft voice called out.
"But…. can you achieve anything all by yourself?"
Everyone turns in surprise at Tsukiko. Looking at Jack with a calm and serious expression.
Jack narrowed his eyes as he growled out, "Huh?! What did you say."
Tsukiko still calm then said in a soft but strangely strong tone, "Do you really think that by facing them alone is the only path for you? You may be strong, but you said so yourself, that Leona is both strong and very cunning. He also has Ruggie and the other dorm members with him, who are also, gifted with strength and intelligence! Facing them now in your current state will be like a puppy facing a den full of lions!" She then stepped closer to Jack in a stern look, "I know you are not that stupid enough to really think that you can win like that?"
The boys looked on speechless as they had never expected to hear that coming from the gentle lady. Even Jack gulped nervously as he looked at her, unsure of what to say. Himari and Hoshiko on the other hand were not as surprised as there were rare occasions where they have seen their gentle and softspoken sister become as strong and authoritative as that.
"FGNAH! I didn't think that you would have let someone have it like that, Tsukiko." Grim exclaimed nervously.
It's as if Grim's words were a spell breaker, Tsukiko blinked and suddenly blushed before she stuttered and bowed her head constantly muttering apologies sheepishly.
The older Akari sister gave a soft chuckle and stepped up to help her sister as she put her arm around Tsukiko's shoulders. Himari then looked at Jack with a smirk as she said, "Well like my sister said… you versus your entire dorn? Yeah, you'll probably end up in a not-so-favorable situation. If you really want to stop them, we need to work together on this. Besides I hear wolves hunt better as a pack rather than alone."
Jack stared at his schoolmates before he let out a deep sigh, and said, "All right, fine. I'll hear you out!" His eyes narrowed as he added, "But… I'm not committing to anything! If I dont like the sound of your scheme, then I'm out!"
"Man, this guy is impossible." Ace sighed out.
Cater chuckled as he said, "Funny, I was just thinking how much he reminds me of you and Deuce."
Hoshiko giggle as she chirped in, "I was thinking the same thing."
Ace and Deuce just glared at the two. Riddle then spoke up, "Then…. If I may continue explaining my plan? The first step is…"
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
"Huh. That's actually not half bad, dude." Ace remarked.
"That's quite a plan, Dorm Leader Rosehearts!" Deuce praised.
"Sounds like ol' Cay-Cay has a lot of prep work to do before the big day!" Cater said cheerfully while waving his magicphone.
Riddle nodded as he said, "Thank you, Cater. Take care not to raise any suspicions."
Himari smiled then looked at Jack as she asked, "So wolfy boy… you've heard Riddle's plans. Well… are you in? Or out?"
Jack looked at them with a rather annoyed look, but he grumbled as he replied, "Hrmmm…. There's nothing cowardly about it, at least. I supposed we can work together this one time." He then looked away but with a tinge of pink slightly seen on his cheeks.
"Really feeling the trust there, Jack." Grim remarked sarcastically. Hoshiko just giggled.
"Cool beans," Ace said as he stretched his arms up. "Let's all get back to our dorms for today. I know I'm about ready to keel over."
"Yeah," Grim chimed in as he nestled more in Hoshiko's arms, "and I'm starving!"
"Hold on a moment, Freshmen!"
The group looked at Riddle who continued in a serious tone, "Because of the information it yielded, I'm going to overlook your flagrant violation of rule#6 'NO FIGHTING ON CAMPUS'."
They looked at him in disbelief but then remembered that Riddle though a bit more changed, is still the strong rule-loving dorm leader of Heartslabyul.
He then looked at them, more on Deuce and Ace, sternly as he added in a stern tone, "But rest assured that if it happens again, it will cost you your heads. Are we clear?" The last part his eyes narrowed with a silent warning.
"Yes sir, Dorm leader Rosehearts." The boys and even Grim replied nervously.
"Y-yeah." Jack muttered looking away in more embarrassment.
"Yes sir." The Akari sisters said.
Riddle then nodded in satisfaction, "Very well… Let us return to our dorms."
"Man, I thought he looked like a wuss, but your Dorm leader is one scary dude." Jack mumbled
"You aint wrong. Mistake him for a friendly hedgehog and you'll quickly learn he's actually a furious porcupine." Ace whispered back. He then lowered his voice even more as he added, "But at least he doesn't go around giving massive head injuries like a certain amazonian dorm leader."
MEGACHOP
"I can still hear you, Dumbass!" Himari said in an irritated tone, looking down at a knocked-out Ace, with a huge bump on its head.
Jack just stared at her in shock.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
"Neesan? Arent you heading back with us?"
Himari looked at her sisters and Grim who was heading back to their dorm. She waved cheerily and said, "You guys go on ahead. There's something I need to do." With that she then turned around and ran off.

NORMAL POV
NCR: MAGIFT STADIUM
"All right…. That should do it for today," Jack panted out. As the group departed they returned to their respective dorms, the young wolf boy decided to do a light jog around the campus. As he was about to head back he suddenly heard noises at the magift stadium.
He walked closer and to his surprise he saw Himari in her PE uniform and seems to be practicing with the magical disk.
The eldest Akari sister, took a deep breath and magically summoned a red flame she then carefully enveloped around the disk, with a wave of her hand she then hurled the disk towards the goal post, unfortunately it missed and hit the side before ricochetting back to her. Upon instinct, Himari fell down to dodge it. The flame then snuffed out leaving only a still well intact disk.
"Dammit, I missed again!" Himari grumbled as she slowly got up and brushed off the dust and grasses from her uniform.
"Its because you put too much effort in making sure your flame doesn't burn the disk, thats why your aim is off"
Himari turned to see Jack walking towards her. "Oh…. hey Jack."
Jack crossed his arms and looked at the girl curiously, "So… why are you here?"
Himari gave an embarrassed laugh and said, "Well….The truth was…the Headmaster promised us that if we solved the 'Accidental attacks' on the students, then Grim and I could play in the tournament, even if it's just for the practice match." She looked at Jack before quickly adding, " Dont be mistaken… we did take this job because we also got concerned about the ones that got injured, especially Trey senpai." Remembering what happened to him, Himari frowned sadly. "But… ever since that little game we had with Savanaclaw a while back. I couldn't help but feel annoyed that we lost…. I mean yeah, its partly because those guys were really good… (as much as I didn't really want to admit it)..." Himari said while grumbling over the last part. She then sat down on the grassy field and continued, "I realized then how much I wanted to practice and learn more about this sport. Believe me… back then playing sports would be the very last thing on my mind… mostly fighting just to protect my sisters has always been my number one priority."

FLASHBACK
"Getting into another fight again, Ms Akari? I don't understand what the heck is going through that head of yours?"
A younger Himari was at the teacher's faculty standing in front of a teacher who was scolding her. Near the corner from where they were was a middle schooler who was covered with bandages, his face swollen from the numerous beatings he received from her. The students just stood there and looked pitiful and was ready to cry.
Another one of the teachers came close to comfort the student. Seeing this Himari's homeroom teacher became even more angry and cried out, "Arashi is one of our best students and has a promising future. But you… if you continue to act this way like a delinquent, I can assure you that your future will most likely be bleak! As punishment, you will be suspended for a week and after that, you will write a letter of apology to Arashi and read it out loud to the entire class…. Otherwise, you will be expelled! Is that clear?"
Himari rolled her eyes and glared at Arashi who gave a small squeak and hid behind the teacher that was consoling him.
"Ms Akari!" The teacher raised his voice in a more warning tone. Himari looked at the teacher and inwardly sneered, what the teacher did not know (or maybe did but chose to ignore it), was that the so-called "victim" Arashi, was harassing a couple of little girls and even tried to harm the stray kitten they were feeding. When she saw that, she quickly rushed over and punched the guy repeatedly.
Looking at her teacher, she gave a small "Whatever." before walking away. She didn't walk far so she could still hear her teachers whispering, "It's a shame that someone like her is like that, then again, troublemakers like her will always end up being just scum of society."
She then walked in the hallway passing by students who looked afraid to even go near her, some whispering behind her back.
She just stayed quiet and continued to walk.
END OF FLASHBACK
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
Himari sighed at the memory before looking up at Jack grinning, "You know Jack… when you gave your little declaration at the courtyard, it really got me motivated to try and give sports a chance. So I should thank you for inspiring me to try my best."
Jack was surprised at what she said. He looked at this golden-haired girl whom he had just trade punches with a while ago. A realization dawned on him before he muttered, "Sorry…."
"Eh?" Himari blinked confused.
The white-haired wolf looked away embarrassed while scratching the back of his neck as he said, "I did not take you seriously back then, I kinda thought you were just a silly girl who pretended to be tough but was delicate…. That was my fault so I apologize."
Himari blinked again before giving a hearty laugh, "Seriously?! That's what you thought of me? Man, you're probably one of the first guys ever who told me that. Most guys often told me I looked more like a thug or a tomboy!" She then stood up and teasingly smiled and got closer to Jack as she asked in a sweet voice, "So did I really look so delicate to you? Is that why you took it easy on me?" She looked at him with innocent looking eyes.
Jack in his utter surprise felt his heart skipped a beat, his eyes widened and his cheeks began to slowly flare up, feeling his tail and wolf ears bristle, he sputtered out, "Y-Yeah…. I mean no…. I mean…. WILL YOU KNOCK IT OFF!"
Himari laughed again and lightly punched his chest, "Sorry dude…. I'm just teasing you." smiling but a bit more serious now she continued, "Look Jack, you're a pretty decent guy, and I can understand your feelings about fair play. So its really not a bad thing to seek help too you know. You be surprised with whom you will encounter."
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
FLASHBACK
"Neesan!"
"Hima-nee!"
Himari, who was walking towards her classroom with the apology letter in her hand, looked back to see her two younger sisters running towards her. Worries etched on their faces.
"Dang… they must have found out." Himari thought. She then gave a cheerful smile as she greeted them, "Hey guys what's up?"
"Neesan, we both heard what happened to you and to Arashi," Tsukiko scolded, "Why didn't you tell us?"
"Well…" Himari embarrassed and scratching her head sheepishly.
"Hima-nee… We know what kind of guy Arashi really is." Hoshiko pouted, "He probably did something despicable and thats why you beat him up, right?"
"Dang my sister's spot on!" Himari thought
Both her sisters sighed out and looked at her with concern, "Neesan, I wish you would be more open to us about it. We're your sisters… you always have been protecting and helping us, but when you are in trouble you choose to keep it to yourself. Don't you think we also want to be there for you?"
Himari looked at her sisters, a bit touched at what they said. She smiled softly and said. "Sorry guys, I just didn't want you both to get caught up in my mess…. Besides, it was my fault as I got a bit too hot-headed."
Hoshiko pouted more and said, "Mou…. Hima-nee still, they shouldn't punish you like this. They just want to embarrass you in front of everyone!"
Himari patted them gently on the shoulders and gave them reassuring smiles, "As long as it doesn't get me expelled it's fine."
As she opened her classroom she was surprised to see a scared-looking Arashi standing in front of the class. Next to him were both the principal and the teacher both also sweating nervously. Himari blinked twice before a tall and serious-looking man in a business suit came forward, he looked at her and asked, "Are you, Ms. Akari?"
Himari nodded sweating a bit. Suddenly, two small girls peeked out from behind the man. Himari recognized them as the ones who Arashi bullied.
The Man in the suit then extended his hand and said, "My name is Hiro Hamada, I am also the head of the school board. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for protecting my daughters."
Himari blinked before she looked down at the two and then she gave a small "Oooh…."
Mr Hamada then added, "Also it has come to my attention thanks to those ladies over there," He gestured to Tsukiko and Hoshiko, "that instead of being praised it seems you were receiving punishment, even threatened to be expelled." He then glared at Arashi and the teacher both even more frightened now.
Himari looked at her sisters with a confused look, Tsukiko smiled and explained, "We heard from some of the students that you were being accused of attacking Arashi, but we know you Neesan. You would never do something like that unless there was a reason."
"So me and Tsuki-nee did our own little investigation until it led us to these cuties!" Hoshiko chirped happily. "They told us everything, and wouldn't you know it, they in turn went to their dad to help you."
Himari, feeling extremely touched by what her sisters did, she then bowed her head in embarrassment as she muttered, "You two…" She then grabbed both her sisters into a big hug as she whispered out… "Thanks."
Both Tsukiko and Hoshiko smiled as they returned the hug.
"Big sister…" The Akari sisters looked down at the two little girls.
Himari bent down to their eye level then they said., "We're sorry that you almost got in trouble because of us… but… Thank you so much for helping us". Himari cheerfully ruffled their head. Her smile grew wider as she saw one of them holding the small stray kitten, now looking clean and well-groomed meowing happily as if also expressing its thanks towards her.
END OF FLASHBACK
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
Himari still lost in thought gave a soft smile before she stretched up her arms and said, "Well… its getting pretty late, best to head back to the dorm. Well, see ya."
"Himari wait!"
Himari turned as Jack got closer, scratching the back of his neck as he said, "Look…. If you like to… we can meet up again here tom and maybe I can teach you more about Magift and train a bit with you."
The golden-haired girl looked a bit surprised before she gave a bright smile and said, "Yeah, that would be great! Sleep tight then, Wolfy boy!" She then turned and left.
Watching her retreating form Jack stared intently, the strange feeling he felt a while ago has calmed down, He then placed his hand where the girl just playfully punched him, he couldnt help but feel warm inside. His lips curled up into a small smile. Finally he also walked back to his own dorm.
