Eddie stepped into Buck's room and felt tears well in his eyes, before he drew in a fortifying breath, knowing that he had to be strong for the woman who held his heart and whom he loved with every breath he took.
'She looks so small and fragile', was the first thought Eddie had as he took a seat next to the bed, and reached for her hand. His eyes briefly hardened as he took in the bandages wrapped around her wrists from being restrained.
Eddie raised her hand to kiss her knuckles, then rested his head against their twined hands. He did something he hadn't done in a long time- he prayed for strength, recovery, and he thanked God that his love was still here with him.
An hour later, Eddie heard a soft moan and raised his head with a soft smile on his lips and a loving gaze, he looked at Evalynn.
"Eds?"
"It's okay amor, here," Eddie said as he brought a straw to her lips, "small sips."
Buck took a few small sips and looked at Eddie and saw his gaze heavy with concern.
"What's wrong Eds? Is Chim okay?"
"He's fine amor. And you will be too, in time." Eddie replied, not sure how to tell her what the doctor had revealed.
"Eddie what is it? Tell me wha-" Buck broke off as she gazed at Eddie, face pale and eyes blank.
"You know, don't you? You know what they did. That those animals raped me." Buck said, voice carefully void of emotion.
Eddie took a moment to look at her, really looked at her, past the cold emotionless mask, and saw the fear and uncertainty behind her eyes and knew she needed honesty and reassurance now more than pretty words.
"Sí. El médico me lo contó. Sobre las heridas, las palizas y las violaciones. No me importa ese amor. Sigues siendo tú, cariño. Todavía te amo. Te amo más cada día y siempre lo haré. Esto no cambia nada para mí. Te lo prometo. Tú y yo somos sólidos. De acuerdo."
[Yes. The doctor told me. About the injuries, the beatings, and the rapes. I don't care acout that love. You are still you, sweetheart. I still love you. I love you more each day and always will. This changes nothing for me. I promise. You and I are solid. Okay]
Buck was quiet for a moment as she listened to the man, her everything besides her kids and felt tears pool in her eyes and spill down her cheeks.
"Dios Eddie, pensé que nunca terminaría. Sabía que era una posibilidad. ¿Pero la realidad? Me sentí como una basura. Como si te estuviera traicionando a ti y a mí misma."
[God Eddie, I thought it would never end. I knew it was a possibility. But the reality? I felt like filth. Like i was betraying you and myself.] Buck sobbed out softly.
"¡No! Cariño, no. Lo que te pasó fue horrible y te quitaron tu elección. Nena te conozco. Nunca me traicionarías porque sé que me quieres demasiado a mí y a nuestra familia. Y sé que respetas nuestros votos demasiado para hacer otra cosa. Fuiste violada, eso es todo. Superarás esto. Y estaré contigo en cada paso del camino."
[No! Baby no. what happened to you was horrible and your choice was taken from you. Baby I know you. You would never, and could never betray me because I know you love me and our family too much. And I know you respect our vows too much to do otherwise. You were violated that's all. You will get through this. And i will be with you every step of the way.]
Eddie stated with conviction as he held his wife's hand and looked at her eyes with a solid fire of conviction in his eyes.
Buck could only look at Eddie in awe as she listened to him speak, and felt the utter love she held for this man grow.
"Thank you. For always being there and knowing how to get me out of my own head. You have been my strength and resolve and determination more than you will ever know. I love you."
"Nowhere I'd rather be. Expect right by your side. To the end of the line and to eternity. That's you and me." Eddie ended with a kiss to her hand.
Buck squeezed his hand and remained quiet for a moment, lost in thought. The battle was over, but the war was still waging in her head. She wasn't sure how, but she knew that she wouldn't let this take her from her family. This might be a mental battle, but she would fight with all she had in her, and she knew if it got to much for her, she could rely on her family, including her team, for back-up.
She turned to Eddie and saw his eyes locked on her, something shimmered in his eyes that vaguely looked familiar to her. There was the love for her that always shone brightly in his eyes, and something unnamed just at the edge of it.
"Eddie? What is it?"
"The doctor found something else, baby. Something unexpected."
"Unexpected? Like what? Oh God! Please dont tell me it's something bad!" Buck begged as she looked at Eddie.
"No Baby. It's unexpected, but it's something so good. A gift amor."
"A gift? Eds, what… you're not mak-" Buck broke off as she saw his heavy gaze rest upon her stomach.
"A gift? But, no- it's to soon, surely? It- NO! it - It can't be what I think you're saying."
"Baby you are pregnant. Five weeks along. I know we didn't plan this one. But this baby is ours too sweetheart. And despite everything you two went through, you're both doing good. Promento."
" Five weeks? Not…Not that animal? Of course not." Buck let out a relieved laugh,"the baby? They're okay? Really?"
"Really. They're doing good and so will you be mama. You're okay with this, right? The baby I mean?" Eddie asked tentatively.
"Yes, amando. It's yours. Ours. how could I not love any child that is part of you? I'm not surprised, i guess with all the stress that's been going on, I must have forgotten my birth control pills."
"It has been stressful. But, I think this one was meant to be. You got pregnant just before this drama all started."
"Huh. You're right." Buck says as she yawns, eyes growing heavy, as her exhaustion catches up to her.
"Sleep amor. I'm here. I love you." Eddie murmured, brushing a hand over her head.
"Love you Eds," she said as she fell asleep, hand laid protectively over their unborn child.
