RWBY: Chosen King and Queen
Hello again, here is another chapter of CKQ but first I wanted to address a couple of things right now that have come up in the comments. I just wanted to clarify these things going forward. This is an AU fic. This will not 100% be following canon and there are Ocs in this fic that are heavily involved with team RWBY so I will be giving them screen time to develop them. If there are some people who don't like that then this story is not for you and I understand that. That will be all that I wanted to clarify but thank you all who have left and comment on this fic, I appreciate the feedback. Now onto the fic.
Chapter 9: Questions and Answers
Drayce looked at everyone in the room and addressed Weiss and Pyrrha, "Did your two teams find anything of interest?"
"Unfortunately no. We looked around, even talked to a few people but overall nothing of importance to report."
Drayce nodded, "Zyaire semblance."
Zyaire nodded, as he closed his eyes and began to be in a meditative state. His aura then began to travel as it reached outside, "I detected someone but as soon as I flexed my aura outside he left."
"Good try to keep that barrier as long as you can."
This confused almost everyone (except team RRZA and Ren), "Hold on what's going on?"
"This is my semblance called flow, I can move my aura inside my body in a rhythm and essentially make me more focused, have better perception, and predictability in combat. Outside of combat I can project it out to give myself a sort of ability to sense other people's aura."
"Now then Ruby what did you find?"
Ruby looked slightly nervous but still responded, as she began to recall her group's event with the old man, "And then he gave me this note. We thought it was smart not to look at it until we were back at the house."
"What about you guys?" Jaune asked.
Drayce sighed, "Where do we begin?"
"First we couldn't get any information on what happened 10 years ago," Rainier said.
"All he said was that what happened was a long time coming. That's it," Ren said.
"Secondly the rogue individuals have not done anything as of yet to be of concern; however with the individual that was lurking here a moment ago, we don't know their true intentions yet." Rainier said.
"Okay so we didn't get any information about our objectives but what did we get?" Blake asked.
"On that note," Drayce addressed Ruby and Yang, "Ruby and Yang, what can you two tell us about your mother?"
This surprised both of them, "You mean Summer correct?" Drayce nodded to Yang's question, "Why is that important?" Yang said getting defensive about where this topic was shifting to.
"Because Yang, Summer Rose, at one point in her life was here," Rainier said.
"W-What?" Ruby stuttered.
Drayce sighed, "Everyone make yourself comfortable. I have a story to tell but this stays between us. I don't need anyone knowing that I told you this." Everyone got situated in the living room as Drayce began, "Okay first things first, let's get the obvious out of the way. Ruby, you are special."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Pyrrha asked.
Drayce sighed again, "I don't mean in a daddy's little girl special, I mean that you yourself have something very special about you. Do you by chance have a thought as to why?"
Ruby thought about it but shook her head, " I always thought I was normal."
"Alright well what is one thing you can confidently say that you have that no one else does. A trait that no one else does," Drayce pushed.
"Well um… I guess my eyes, but my mom had-"
Drayce cut off Ruby, "Exactly."
"Wait what?" Ruby said, confused.
"You see, Silver Eyes is a very rare trait not many people have. Hell I can confidently say all the people that I have met who had silver eyes are all on one hand."
"But what does that mean?" Weiss said.
"There is a story," Argus started, "That there were a group of fighters that were stronger than any other so much so they could almost rival the Kings of the world of old even be as powerful as the Kings of Arlyn even if that were extraordinarily inept with them. No one knows the origin of these special eyes. However it is said that these warriors could strike down a grimm with just a glance."
"And you think that Ruby could be one of these warriors, let alone be true?" Jaune asked.
Drayce shook his head, "I don't think. I know."
"And how would you know that?" Weiss asked.
"Simple, it happened right in front of my eyes." This shocked Ruby along with everyone else. "It was during our fight. Through whatever resolve you had and along with my abilities, your eyes shined bright and I believe you were prematurely awakened."
Ruby sat there trying to take everything in, "Okay, okay, but I fail to understand how that links me with the village?"
"The village chief said that your mother was here and also the old man acted like that from your name and saw your silver eyes. It's the only logical explanation to come up with regarding the chief's interest in you," Ren said.
"And that leaves this book and the note." Rainier said, "Jaune, could you read what's on there."
Jaune took the piece of paper and looked over it. "They're addresses." Jaune placed the paper on the ground. "One is an unknown address and one from the looks of it is in Arlyn."
"Wait, that first one is here." Blake said, "I looked at the streets of this town very thoroughly and that's the address of this house."
Drayce thought for a second, 'I wonder…'
Drayce then grabbed the book and set it on the floor for everyone and began turning the pages; however, "It's empty?" Nora questioned.
"But why would he give us an empty book?" Pyrrha asked.
'Maybe,' Rainier thought. "Zyaire search the house and tell us if you find any traces of aura around here."
"You got it boss." Zyaire used his semblance in a shorter range to see only the house. "I see one from the book and under the couch."
They all ejected from the couch and moved it to see a glowing circle to which Drayce put the book right on top of it only for it to recline and open to reveal some stairs. Everyone looked at each other and in a silent notion nodded and descended down.
Once at the bottom they were greeted with a door with words on the top, "'For those who are false turn back. Only true blood can pass these doors.' What does it mean by false?"
As everyone thought Ruby heard a voice, 'Open.' Ruby slightly freaked out but she felt as though this voice was familiar. 'Claim what is ours.' Unknowingly Ruby instinctively put her hand on the door only for the door to shoot out a spike and prick Ruby's thumb. "Ouch."
Yang and the others realized what Ruby did and rushed to her, "Ruby are you ok?"
Then miraculously the door began to open revealing its contents to them. "What the hell?" Argus said. It was a hidden library, filled with books.
"It's a library?" Drayce thought for a second before picking up a book, and then another and then another. "These are history books from other kingdoms."
Rainier picked a book, "Not just that, this one is on silver eyes."
Weiss decided to join, "This is on weaponsmithing."
Drayce looked at the paper with the coordinates of his kingdom then immediately called his father. "Hello, Drayce I am a little busy right now so-"
"Fuck that. I have something that is more important," on the other line Fenrir put his serious face on because never had Drayce talked to him like that unless it was important. "I'm going to send you an address and I need you to look into it. Call me back as soon as you find anything."
"Alright." Drayce cut the call and sent him the address. Drayce sighed and looked at the time. "You guys, it's getting late. We'll resume this tomorrow."
Ruby caught on to what he meant and asked, "What's about you?"
"I still have to wait for a call from my father until then I'll stay down here."
"Okay don't be up all night though," Argus said as everyone was happy to get some sleep because of how much information they had absorbed today. Ruby looked back to Drayce one more time before also going into her room to think about everything.
Ruby laid in her bed as she was still every bit awake, thinking on everything she had learned hours ago. She had special powers, her mom was at this village at one point, the village, everything is just too much to think about. So Ruby decided to get up and go to the library, however once she made it downstairs she saw that it was still open. She went down inside to find Drayce still there, but he had brought a chair from upstairs and was reading a book with several to the side of him.
"Why are you still up?" Ruby asked.
"Still trying to figure out a few things but it's still not making a whole lot of sense."
"Like what?"
"For example there was a group of Silver Eyed warriors from Linux that decided that they wanted to make their own village out here. The reasoning they gave was none but they said that they took something important that was passed down through their family to protect. However it was never described how it looked or what it does. Secondly this family had stopped by Arlyn at some point before making the village. And what's troubling is that they supposedly were very acquainted with my family."
"How could that be? How would you know this?" Ruby asked.
"I asked father to look into those coordinates and sure enough it was a library like this one but these books were more for the Arlyn royal family as it showed things that only my family would know. The distinction of our semblance, that the RoyalGlaive were something brought up by them that was proposed to the king at the time, and even a full layout of the royal palace."
"Okay so we know that it was a family close to yours. Do your history books have any recollection on a family that was close to yours?"
"Besides the royal family from the Kingdom of Linux, no. There is no statement saying that, and it shouldn't be the Royal family of Linux, new or old, because it isn't stated in our personal archive that they did help. So whoever this family was, wanted to be completely anonymous." Drayce said as he shook his head in frustration, "The last thing is that for some reason your family on your mother's side is connected to this village. I don't know how but it seems as though your mother was the last one to be in this archive."
Ruby was surprised by this news, "H-How do you know that?"
Drayce dug into his pocket and gave Ruby a piece of paper, "She wrote a note for you."
Ruby looked at the paper and began to read its contents.
Hello My Name is Summer Rose but if you find this then you would already know that, and that you would be my two wonderful daughters, Ruby and Yang.
If you two are reading this… then I am most likely dead. I… I am so sorry for leaving you. There were things that needed to be done and I… I love you both so very much and I wish I would have been able to be with you all, be a better mother to you, and just see you both grow. Life for you two is going to get harder. Especially for you Ruby. Since you are here then I am going to assume you know about your eyes. You will have many hardships as I have, and Yang all I ask is that you please support your sister. I love you both.
Love Summer Rose
As Ruby read this she began to break down more and more until the dam broke and she broke into tears. Drayce moved from his spot and held her as she hugged him in desperation as she cried on his shoulder as Drayce sat there to comfort his best friend and the person he grew to love. Unbeknownst to them Yang was at the entrance hidden from view with tears in her eyes as well; however she was very happy that Ruby had someone that she could speak her problems to besides her. It gives her relief that if she would in some way be gone, Ruby was in good hands.
Ruby, after 30 minutes of crying, got up and wiped her eyes, "S-sorry for your shirt…"
Drayce looked at his shirt and smiled slightly, something he didn't do enough in Ruby's opinion, "It's nothing to be concerned about." He said brushing the topic off, "But that is all I have. I want to talk to the chief again tomorr-" Drayce froze then ran upstairs.
"Drayce, wait!" Ruby ran after him. When she got to him he had just got to the door and opened it. No one was outside.
The action of heavy movement, however, alerted everyone and woke them up. "What's going on?" Blake asked.
"I thought I sensed someone," He said.
Zyaire used his semblance and found something, "The door."
Drayce checked the front of the door to find a sort of note. He grabbed the note and entered the house, closing the door behind him.
Dear Prince Drayce
I am sure you have heard about us around and I am pretty sure that you and your team were sent here in order to figure out things of what's going on in this village. I want to make sure that you understand that we are not your enemies.
And to prove this I offer that you come to our hideout so that we may talk things out like civilized adults. Behind this note is the coordinates, now you could tell your kingdoms so that they can attack us but I believe you're not that type of person like the General is. If you want to talk, meet us there at 10 in the morning.
We await your arrival.
With that Drayce turned the paper and typed it into his scroll, "It's in the outskirts of this town."
"So what do we do?" Nora asked.
"We go," Ruby said.
"Ruby, think of this logically. This very and most likely is a trap, and they are waiting to corner us," Weiss said.
This was a true possibility; however it was something she already thought about. "But think about if this was a trap, I don't think they would be trying to harm or capture Drayce. I don't think they want the whole kingdom of Arlyn on them," Ruby said logically.
"She does bring up a good point," Pyrrha said.
"Then we go," Drayce said, "They have been here longer than us so there are things they know about this village that we may not know. They may have some answers to our questions. There is a possibility that I may know what is going on here but I need more information to confidently say."
Weiss sighed, "Very well. If you both think that this is the best course of action, then I'll go along with it."
Ruby nodded to this.
In the morning
The three teams decided to only send a couple of people, two from each team. From RWBY it was Ruby along with Yang much to Weiss' dismay of wanting to go to make sure her team was okay. Jaune and Ren also went and chose to leave Pyrrha here to help hold down the fort with the others. Lastly was Drayce and Rainier, even though Argus was known as Drayce's right hand, Rainier was the smartest.
As the door shut, Weiss began to slightly pace. Blake saw this and decided to comfort her teammate. "Weiss, everything will be fine."
"I know that," she responded back, "But I can't help being anxious."
Pyrrha smiled, "Well it's great to see that you care for your team like you do Weiss. Like they were family."
Weiss acknowledged the comment but didn't say anything, 'Yeah… Like family.'
With the others
Ruby and the others walked to the camp but while going there Ruby looked towards Yang, "Yang," Ruby called.
"Hm," Yang hummed in response with their eyebrows up.
"Do you think it was the right decision to leave Weiss? She seemed like she wanted to go as well."
"I think she will be just fine," Rainier said, "She's just worried about you two. It seems we've rubbed off on her."
Ruby smiled slightly at that, "Eyes up," Drayce grabbed their attention, "We're here."
In front of them was a big wooden gate that looked like it circled the perimeter of the camp.
As soon as they neared the gate it opened as it seemed as if they knew when they would be here. Inside everyone had kneeled as they walked into the camp. It seemed like a regular settlement with tents and a sort of cafeteria that was to the left of the entrance.
"Ah, Prince Regulus. I hope the trip here wasn't tiring." In front of them was a man with tan complexion and was wearing a simple white dress shirt and slacks with dress shoes. His hair was slick and brown with it tied in a ponytail. "Ah my apologies where are my manners," he then bowed, "My name is Zeke Albion, I am the leader or chief of this rogue faction."
Yang looked at him incredulously, "You?" Which promptly caused Ruby to quickly hit her sister in the shoulder.
"Although it may not look like it, Ms. Xiao Long, I am quite confident in my abilities in a fight if that is what you are implying." Yang looked away slightly saying nothing but felt slightly embarrassed. "Anyway, let us talk somewhere more privy shall we."
He began to navigate them to his quarters and when they arrived there was a table in the middle of the room and another to the side where a table with some tea and coffee assortments were.
"Please sit. Does anyone want some refreshments?"
Mostly everyone said no, "I'll take some tea please," Drayce said. Zeke compiled and began making both Drayce and himself some tea. "It seems as though you know each and every one of us."
"Yes I do. I've been keeping an eye on all of you. Before you even came here. I will say that I have a sort of info gatherers in Vale. When the prince enrolled into Beacon Academy, I made a point to learn all of your classmates as well."
"Wait, you really know all of us?" Jaune asked.
Zeke nodded, "Jaune Arc leader of Team JNPR has a knack for tactician but is unrefined in fighting style." Jaune sighed at that last bit of information about himself.
Zeke moved from person to person there after, "Lie Ren. The calm and collected individual of the team and is the most proficient with his aura on the team."
"Yang Xiao Long. The brawler of team RWBY. Punch first and ask questions later. Currently is also the strongest member in Team RWBY."
"Rainier Cendrillion. The brains of Team RRZA. Can analyze a situation so quickly and efficiently that it can put the Ace Ops to shame."
"And lastly the two most important people in the room. Drayce Regulus and Ruby Rose. Leaders of their respective teams and…" he stopped for a second until his face became serious, "The key to everything."
Ruby blushed looking confused as Jaune, Ren, and Yang as to why she was so important. However, both Drayce and Rainier focused their eyes on him, "So. If my intel is correct you are a rogue faction from the Kingdom of Linux."
"By definition that is correct."
'By definition... hmm,' Rainier thought but did not speak out loud as he kept his speculation to himself.
"However, with how much respect you and your people show me. It seems to me you have no grudge against my family even though we are very bonded with said kingdom."
Zeke chuckled a little as he sat forward and intertwined his fingers, placing them on the desk in front of him. "Do not be mistaken. We have no qualms with Arlyn, Vale, Mantle or any of the other kingdoms... Except Linux."
"Why is that?" Ren asked.
"Because they are a bunch of liars."
Drayce's aura slightly flared up, "You mean to tell me, The Prince of Arlyn, that my kingdom's brothers in arms are nothing but liars. The same people who even though we had to fight each other in the great war could sit and have a cup of tea with each other. That they are traitors, to their people?" Drayce's aura flared up more to which people started to feel the density of his aura.
'The Prince is way stronger than I thought he would be. If I am not careful his wrath might be the death of me.' Zeke cleared his throat, "I do not mean to offend your people my dear Prince," Drayce slightly calmed, making everyone but Zeke in the room release their breath that they didn't know they were holding. "What I am saying is that the Royal Family of the current Kingdom is hiding much that you do not know of." Zeke stood up, "How much do you know of this Village?"
"The most important thing we got is that Ruby's family from her mother's side was a part of this village at one point," Rainier said.
"Correct but also when was it established?"
"From the reports it said that it was about 5 months after the death of the Royal Family of Linux and their funeral. But what does that have to do with anything?" Yang asked with her arms crossed.
Drayce thought about everything, before everything like a puzzle fitting snugly into its place, his face lit up and looked at Ruby. "Wait, you don't mean...?"
Zeke smirked at this, "Looks like the Prince figured it out." He walked to the entrance of the tent and motioned everyone to follow.
As everyone stepped out Zeke began, "This village is called another name. Do you want to know what it is?"
"What is it?" Ruby asked.
"It is called the Village of Flowers under the Moon. When you meet all the requirements the flower tends to give off a faint glow at night. It is certainly a sight but I haven't seen them glow in years." Zeke smiled, "Anyway there is one more thing."
Drayce looked at him, "What is it?"
"Since you know the information I am going to let you dictate how it is handled. I trust that you will make the right decisions. But if you still have suspicions, talk to the mayor tomorrow about your findings. Not only that, I implore you not to contact your father until after you are out of this village. That is all I can say."
After the advice and warning they left the camp everyone noticed that Drayce was much quieter than he usually was.
"So does that mean this village has connections with the late Royal Family of Linux?" Blake asked.
Jaune nodded. Yang then rose up from the seat, "Before we start planning our next move," Yang looked over to Drayce who had his head down in thought while he sat in the single chair. "It is time to spill it, Drayce. Zeke said you figured it out. What did you figure out?"
Drayce sighed for a second, "I can't say until I know for sure and I consult with my father," this answer did not please Yang at all and she was about to yell at him until Drayce raised his hand to stop her, "However what I can say is that if it is true then it complicates things for Arlyn."
Argus and Zyaire looked at each other, "Is it that serious?" Zyaire asked.
"Yeah it can't be that bad. If it was true, what's the worst that could happen?"
Drayce was quiet until he said, "War." Everyone looked at him shocked, "And I don't mean a war with Grimm but I mean a World War. If things are not played carefully we are looking at another Great War, and this time we would have to fight." Everyone was terrified at the prospect, (some more than others).
"So what is our next move?" Rainier said, "We can't sit here twiddling our thumbs."
Drayce thought about that and made a decision with a sigh. Little did he know this decision, would change the events of history forever, "Alright everyone sit down and get comfy... What's your favorite fairy tale?"
This statement shocked the hell out of his teammates. "Wait, are you seriously going to tell them?!" Argus argued.
"What choice do I have?! We are on the verge of war with Ruby being in the center so I am going to arm them with as much information I can! I can't have allies being misinformed." Teams JNPR and RWBY looked at him surprised how much he raised his voice and the emotion he had displayed at the moment.
Argus was going to argue back until Rainier put a hand on his shoulder, "Drayce is right. Information is power and can end a battle before it even starts."
Argus grunted relenting to their logic. "You may be asking why this is important," Drayce continued, "Well all fairy tales have an inclin of truth in them, whether it's the whole truth or partial."
"Well I love the story of the seasons," Nora said.
"Nora, always pushing forward," Drayce began, "Well that story in particular is all true."
Everyone but team RRZA looked at them with shocked expressions, "Wait but that would mean that…"
Drayce nodded, "Yes. Magic is very real... and I am a breathing representation."
Pyrrha looked quizzically at him, "I don't remember you using any type of magic in our fight. Were you holding back?" Pyrrha said, slightly upset at the prospect.
Drayce shook his head, "I fought you with all I had. Also you guys have seen me use magic." Drayce then stood up and summoned his weapons as they floated around him. "I don't have elemental magic like the maidens of the story of seasons. My magic is essentially having my own vault of weapons and anything I may need and being able to pull it into reality. My actual semblance is the ability to enhance others."
"Okay, okay wait so if what you are saying is true what does this have to do with Ruby?" Weiss asked.
"Since all fables have some truth to them," Rainier said, "There is another tale of the silver eyed warriors."
"So, all of my kind were warriors?" Ruby questioned when her head gave a quick sharp pain before dying down quickly.
"Yes," Argus continued, "To elaborate from yesterday's discussion, the silver eyed warriors are a tale of silver eyed people who all ended up living their life as a warrior and have the ability to strike a grimm down with just a look. They are what the grimm fears."
"Then why can't I do any of this?!" Ruby exclaimed with frustration as these were thoughts that came to her mind last night but were suppressed by her, "If I am so powerful for these eyes of mine then why can't I bring them out? Why couldn't I help protect my mother?" Ruby said with tears in her eyes.
Drayce looked at Ruby with sympathy, "Because yours have not awakened yet." Drayce walked up to Ruby and wiped the tears from her eyes, "What happened to your mother was not your fault. She was just as special from what I have heard." He then addressed everyone in the room, "What you have learned stays between us. I didn't want to get you guys involved with certain things but at this point it will be unavoidable. Do I make myself clear?"
They all nodded. "So how does one become a maiden?" Pyrrha asked.
"People just don't become maidens," Zyaire began, "They are chosen. Firstly a maiden can never be a male. Secondly a maiden is heavily influenced by the aspects of their seasons. Summer is for light so someone who has experienced the embodiment of light and knows of it are prime candidates to use the full power of the maiden. Winter is darkness as does with the cold the sky gets darker. The person who wields this maiden generally knows of the darkness of people and what that can do to others. They've also in ways have experienced the darkness of others. Fall tends to be people that have a hand in destruction and know that it is sometimes needed for the greater good. These people know that sometimes you have to get your hands dirty in order to bring peace. And lastly Spring, the season of new beginnings. Usually people who wield this maiden are aware of the importance of life and have either directly or indirectly created something with good intentions in order to make some sort of change."
Rainier decided to finish the crash course on the maidens, "Lastly the decision is heavily influenced by those who are in the previous maiden's final thoughts before she dies. With that said, someone who does not embody these traits but still becomes a maiden has some consequences." Rainier raised his index finger, "One, they can not use the full power of the maidens' abilities." He raises his middle finger as well, "Their body begins to get weaker quicker than most regular people." He raises his ring finger, "Finally, their weaknesses are easier to exploit as you see the maidens have a weakness to Silver Eyes. We don't know why but we do know that they do."
Everyone soaked up everything but to Jaune something doesn't seem right, "So from what the conversation with Zeke, he was more concerned with Linux so what does that mean for Ruby. He said that she was important in this matter."
Drayce bit his lip before addressing him, "That I can not tell til I am for sure and have spoken with my father. What I can say is that if what I am thinking is true then it makes things easier but also so much harder in multiple aspects." Drayce then put a fist over his heart, "But I swear to you all. I will do everything to keep everyone safe. No matter what happens from here on out I will do my best to protect you all. My friends, my family. I swear on my title as the Future King of Arlyn."
Even though all the questions were not answered they were content to know that.
