How he had survived, he couldn't say. Perhaps an earthquake. When he woke up again, there were mountains where he didn't remember seeing them before. He felt beaten and bruised, and despite his efforts, he could find no sign of his family or the others, nor, thankfully, of the soldiers. He had been traveling for days through the jungle, eventually coming across a town in a clearing. He was cautious, but the place seemed safe. He found a cafe where an Argentine tango was playing and went in, hoping to find work.
"Are you looking for work?" an American asked.
