With our plans in motion we set to the last preparations. Brother Gilbert and Father began to plan out small journeys around the country and other lands, hoping to meet other surviving dragons. All while the others and I set out to moving our pieces to their ideal places, hiding knights and spies in King Stephen's court. Once all was set it fell to a waiting game.
16 years later, week of comets arrival
Thankfully the last decade and a half have been relatively peaceful. Few bumps here and there but nothing my court and I couldn't handle.
Kara and I have had two more pregnancies together in that time and now I am nearing the end of my most recent and hopefully last pregnancy. Three daughters and two sons have been blessings from the stars but I am getting old and growing very tired of the pains of such blessings. While Kara declared herself done after her third was a stressful delivery. By the skills of midwife and prayers both mother and baby survived the ordeal. Though Kara was restricted to her and Bowens bed for an entire month to recover.
Aurther, and I are expected to be present at our allied kingdom festivities of the start of the autumn harvests and the swearing in of the kings newest advisor. While we travel we gather taxes from the villages along the way and introducing my youngest son, Dinadan, to both our kingdom and allies.
Bowen rides in front of my litter, Kara rides inside with me and Dinadan, who was siting on her lap playing with his toy dragons and horses.
"How are you feeling, Ava," she asked me for probably the hundredth time since we left the last village two hours ago.
"Still well," I smiled at her as I adjusted myself against the many pillows supporting my back.
"Won't be long now till we reach the monastery," she smiled to me, setting my son to the side then helping fluff a pillow under my ankles.
"Not soon enough," I sighed rubbing my belly, "I've missed little brother. And this travel is starting to get old."
"Little one being antsy," Kara gave a soft smile stroking my side.
"Thankfully they've been asleep since we packed up camp," I chuckled resting my hand on hers. Dinadan climbed down from the padded bench to continue his playtime on the litter floor as he hooked his tiny horse to a small cart.
"Hopefully they stay that way till we arrive there," Kara nodded back, "Truly you are an odd Queen."
"Why," I chuckled with a hint of sarcasm, "Is it because I won't let pregnancy stop me from seeing my little brother."
"That is one reason," Kara chuckled back, "But that also said pregnancy won't stop you from spying on potential enemies, and charging at prophecies head on."
"As I told you all, I don't want a middle man here," I gave a small sigh, looking down at my son as he looked up at me handing me his dragon, "This is too big for such things."
Kara gave a small nod back to me as I took his dragon.
"We'll be arriving at the monastery soon, mother, aunty," Reagan said peeking into the litter.
"Hi Reega," Dinadan waved to his cousin excitedly. Reagan waved back to him with a small chuckle.
"Thank you, son," Kara smiled back to him.
"Dear could you wave a servant over for a moment," I asked setting my son's toy aside, "I could very much do with some honey right now."
"Would you like us to stop for a proper meal," Aurther asked from the opposite side, slowing his horse so he could speak to me. While Reagan spoke to a page who then trailed behind the litter to an waiting footman.
"Dada," Dinadan cheered seeing his father, reaching up to him out of the window. Aurther smiled back at him, holding his hand out to him.
I shook my head, "No dear. I just need a snack is all. I don't want to keep little brother waiting on us since we're making such good time."
Aurther nodded back to me as a servant gave Reagan a small wax paper bundle before giving it to Kara then to me. I happily took the bundle opening it to reveal a chunk of honeycomb.
"Thank you, loves."
"Of course your majesty," the servant replied.
"Now get back to the head," I waved to Aurther, "You'll be expected to be seen leading this parade."
"Oh I don't think many will see me," Aurther shrugged, "Especially the way we're going."
"That maybe true but you'll need to be in the front with our color bares and knights," I said eating a piece of the comb, offering some to Kara. Dinadan was too focused on his father for the honey snack.
"Dada can I ride," he asked reaching out for him.
"I will be, but till then I'd rather be not ten feet from my wife," he replied, leaning closer to the window of our litter, picking up our son and setting him in front of him on the saddle, "And your soon to arrive baby sibling."
Dinadan giggled as he was sat down with his father, "Mama have baby soon."
A squire road up to Bowen, "Sir Bowen, King Aurther, our camp has been established ahead of schedule, and the Royal Tent was being finished as I road off."
"Excellent," both nodded.
"Has our hosts been informed of our arrival," Aurther asked as he rode up beside Bowen.
"Yes, your majesty. King Stephen sends his regards of Queen Ava's condition, apologizing for the lack of accommodation for the congregation."
"The king is kind but there is no need to fret," Aurther gave a good hearted chuckle, "It is use who underestimated our numbers from the bordering villages. We'll be fine with our camp."
"He has also sent extra provisions and blankets for the Queen, as gifts."
"Oh wonderful," Kara smiled. I nodded as well, finishing the comb.
"I will have to give him my gratitude upon our arrival," Arthur chuckled.
"Thank you," Dinadan smiled.
The squire chuckled, "You're welcome, Prince Dinadan."
Once we arrived to the camp, Kara held my hand as we stepped onto the litter steps to the ground.
"Welcome your majesties," several knights and servants greeted us as we stepped out from the litter.
"Feels so good to be standing again," I sighed stretching my back. Then giving a nod to our welcoming party.
"We've made sure your tent is all furnished for you," a servant nodded back, "And we've begun to prepare a warm bath for you as well."
"Take your time," I smiled back, "I'd like to stretch my legs for a time."
They bowed back to me before going back to other tasks. Bowen and another knight, Sir Galahaut, followed closely behind Kara and I as we walked about the camp before slipping into a secret tunnel hidden by over grown vines. Bowen takes the lead as we enter the tunnel leading into the hidden chamber under the monastery. Drake met us at the entrance, his tail shaking as he tried to stay still.
"You're finally here," he smiled nuzzling his head to me.
"Hello little brother," I smiled hugging him as best I could.
"Easy, lad," Bowen chuckled at him, "Your sister's close to bursting with that little one in her belly."
"Oh sorry," he chuckled nervously stepping back.
'It's okay, Drake," I said kissing the tip of his snout, "The baby's been asleep for awhile now. I am simply happy we finally got here."
"Me too," Drake purred, softly nuzzling my belly then my forehead. We spent some time together in the hidden chambers before Aurther and Dinadan were able to join us after meeting with the kings' men, completing the next days schedule for the grand events. Later in the day Bowen and Aurther left for the main monastery to meet with our spies among the monks. Till sundown when we all gathered for dinner with my little brother. Then retiring for the night. Aurther and I deciding to stay the night with my brother in his chambers, while Bowen and Kara stayed in our tent.
