The gentle glow of the flames illuminated the elegant aristocratic features of her companion for the evening. He was wearing a pair of nicely tailored black trousers, a crisp green button-down shirt, and a black dinner jacket. Tall and lanky with sandy colored hair and hazel eyes her dinner companion seemed unable to take his eyes off of her.
His eyes seemed to drink in every inch of her and unaccustomed to being admired so much Luna smiled. Sliding into her seat she carefully crossed her ankles and considered her companion as she realized that the eyes of a good portion of the restaurant were on them. Since the events of the war everyone was still cautious about crossing certain lines.
His gaze finally broken off by the sommelier clearing his throat, "I'm Edward, your sommelier. Would you care for any wine this evening?" Theo's face-tinged pink as he realized how uncharacteristically open his expression had been. He quickly mumbled, "I'm sorry, that was quite rude of me." Luna smiled, "It was nice. A girl likes to be appreciated." Theo raised an eyebrow in surprise, before he turned back to the sommelier, "Yes, thank you, a bottle of Jordan for the table please." As the sommelier retreated to the cellar for their wine Theo turned back to Luna.
" I really should apologize. I always thought you were lovely, but in that dress, you could put veelas to shame. I would have thought that you would find it objectionable." Luna smiled at her companion, "we've all grown up. As she said that, Luna found her wine glass filled with the lovely red liquid. Feeling a little awkward seeing how he had kept track of her over the years, but she had not done the same. To ease the awkwardness for both of them she asked, "so, tell me what you have been up too?"
The nodded, "I have finished my mastery in arithmancy and runes. Truthfully, I wasn't sure that you would come, especially if you knew it was me. If there was one favor that the war did for me it is that it rid me of my father. I've always felt more at home in the library or in a lab than at parties and quidditch games. I can now have the kind of life that I have always wanted. I would like to the opportunity to court you if you'd let me?"
When Theo finally stopped, he reached underneath his seat and pulled out a package wrapped neatly in silver wrapping paper with a beautiful blue bow. Luna shook her head, "you didn't have too you know.' Theo nodded, "I know, but I wanted too." She smiled at him and began to carefully unwrap the package. Inside of it was a set of books rare charms text of which there were only 100 copies known to be in existence. She gasped at the beautiful gift, and lovingly stroked the cover of the top tomb, a copy of Healing Charms, by Rowena Ravenclaw. Looking up at Theo she smiled, "I think I would like to get to know you a lot."
Theo signaled to the waiter, who scurried over immediately and asked, "What would you like to start?" Theo smiled, "you still like surf and turf, right?" Luna smiled in the affirmative. Theo ordered surf and turf for two and Luna smiled. The evening was turning out to be much better than she had anticipated. They settled in and began to eat their lobster and steak, discussing favorite wizarding bands, and runic alphabets, who the worst teacher at Hogwarts had been. Which surprisingly they agreed on, "Severus Snape."
Luna smirked, "I never would have thought that a Slytherin would place Snape as the worst teacher." Theo mock glared at her, "that's because you weren't in the snake pit. Suffice it to say that the man's tendency to favor Slytherin above other houses, also extended to having favorites inside the house. Let's just say that I was not one of them."
Luna smiled, "you're really not what people said when we were in school. You're really quite amazing. It makes me wonder why we didn't talk sooner." Theo smirked, "you mean besides stupid interhouse politics and father dearest forbidding me from getting involved with anyone romantically, or talk non-purebloods?" Luna shrugged, "I was speaking hypothetically. Those answers definitely make sense. Although, I have to wonder what he was thinking? I don't think that even any of the staff was pureblood." Theo laughed, "I doubt he was. Thankfully, he was made to see sense when I pointed that out to him Christmas of first year."
Luna laughed, "I can imagine that went over well!" Theo shook his head, "of course not. Thesseus didn't like anyone arguing with him. It only worked because it also cut to his own pride when I pointed out that it would make or break my marks and therefore my career opportunities."
Thankfully, just then music began to play, and Theo stood extending his hand to her, and they made their way to the dance floor, which Luna somehow missed in her initial view of the place. They began to move together in a classic samba, Theo's hand's at Luna's waist, and Luna's hands around his neck. The petite blonde felt small even in her heels and had to look up into his eyes as they moved to the music. True to the upbringing of all purebloods both had been taught to dance from a youthful age and so the movements came back easily.
The night continued with dancing, laughing, talking, and eventually an order of chocolate pudding for dessert. Once Theo called for the check since the next day would require them to each go to their training for new jobs, Luna stood from the table, causing Theo to stand and escorted her out leaning down to kiss her lips gently at first evaluating the waters to see how she would respond. As Luna began to return his kiss, he deepened it slightly. His lips were salty and plush a testament to the pureblood heritage that had created him.
She smiled up at him, "that's a yes to your question about courting by the way." An easy smile slowly crossed Theo's face, and they parted for the evening. Both assured of pleasant dreams.
