Belle jumped as a soft knock came from the door. She couldn't be sure how long she had been in the library going through books. After all what other alternative did she have to pass the time?
"Who is it?" she called, embarrassed that her voice sounded small and weak.
"Melody," a voice answered through the door. While she was aware there were other servants besides Lumus it was different matter altogether too actual meet them. The voice sounded nice enough, so Belle rose, and opened the door. But there was no one there.
"I thought you might like a nice cup of tea," came the same friendly voice she heard before. Belle looked down where the voice was coming from. Another fox like Lumus, except smaller and softer in features. Her fur seemed well groom and she was carrying a tray on her back a teapot with two vessels holding cream and sugar and a small chipped cup. With a single launch motion the tray landed on the table with ease.
"Oh my, you're just as Lumus described you." The vixen remarked as she used her paws to fix a cup of tea with ease.
Belle had some reservations about drinking something prepared by what in most cases would be considered an animal, but it seemed to be the expected thing to do and she did not wish to be rude. So Belle picked up the cup and gently sipped the warm tea.
"Thank you," she said, pleased to hear her voice had returned to normal. Tea could work wonders for frayed nerves.
"Let me know if you wish for more. I enjoy fixing up a brew." She said as she fixed herself up a cup. "You were very brave to have done that for your father," the vixen said. "All of the staff thinks so."
"But I've lost my father, my dreams. . . everything," she replied. So far the staff was very kind to her, or the staff she met so far.
"Don't give it to your sadness. In the end everything will turn out all right in the end." Melody said and Belle couldn't help but smile at her kind optimism. "I know you must be very frightened, and I know we've only just met, but I know you'll make the most out of living here. I know the Master seems a very cruel individual but at heart he is a sweetheart."
"Then why did he lock me in here? Why did he separate me from my sick and ailing father?"
Melody paused in the middle of gathering the pots of cream and sugar together. "I…its not my story to tell. He wasn't always like this. Like I said its not my story to tell, all I can tell you is that none of us would be here without the master. Despite the choices he has made in life I know that the kind young man who gave me a home is in there somewhere." A knock on the door drew her attention. "Monsieur Aldric." Melody greeted the gentleman.
He was a much older looking kitsune with a pair of old square frames and an old style hairdo. "Lady Melody." He greeted with a bow before turning his attention to Belle. "Ahem!" he cleared his throat to draw attention to himself. "Dinner is served, mademoiselle," he said with a bow, clearly expecting her to head downstairs with him.
"Monsieur Aldric forgive me, but I won't be going down to dinner." She thought she saw a muscle twitch in the part of the old kitsune.
"I—I don't understand, mademoiselle."
"I-I'm not hungry," she said again. "But thank you for coming to get me."
"I—oh dear—but. . . Very well," Aldric said and retreated from the doorway.
"I'm afraid I've upset him quite a bit," Belle said to the vixen.
"That's not very hard to do," she replied with a slight chuckle. "Always on his last nerve, he is. Just like Cogsworth, both men are very old fashion and believe in being punctional and strict manners. "
"Is Cogsworth another member of staff?" Belle curiously asked as she noticed Melody suddenly tensed up.
"Eerh, no, forget I said anything." She stammered. "Forget that name as well." Melody was all too much in a hurry to leave.
Meanwhile in another part of the country the Kyuubi traveled through the forest faster than a normal human body would allow. It had been quite some time before he had left the Castle. His body and face hidden by the cloak he was wearing. By horse it would have taken days to make this journey, but for him it was a matter of hours. It won't take long for him to arrive to his destination.
