Hey there, so many of you were surprised that I picked Wind Breathing to be Izuku. I thought Wind and the color match his style, I didn't wanted him to copy Tanjiro and be like that. Izuku and Tanjiro are completely different individuals and they will meet in the future. Now let's see what happens.
A month has passed since Izuku breathing style was chosen. Like Sanemi told him, he would put him through to hell and he was right. It was a nonstop training session one after the other, it was insane.
Izuku had to wake up sometimes at 3:00 Am and do a very sadistic method of training. Sanemi made him run for like 10 Km straights, then do a lot of push ups and other forms of exercises. While running he had set up traps and other forms of surprises and every time Izuku fall into them, there were times that he thought Sanemi was trying to kill him. The least terrible one was the sword practice, which him makes him do like 1000 swings to practice his sword. At least Izuku got some muscles and a few scars on his hands and chest.
''994, 995, 996, 997, 998, 999 and 1000!'' Said Izuku dropping his sword and falling to the floor tired.
The Wind Hashira was observing everything with a glare and he was not happy.
''You did horribly. I want 1000 more.'' Said him.
''What!'' Scream izuku horrified and out of breath.
''What was that?'' Asked Sanemi with a stare and with his veins appearing on his face.
''Nothing master.'' Said Izuku scared.
''Good, now keep going!'' Scream Sanemi.
The training kept going and going. Izuku was pretty much doing the impossible, since it usually 1 to 2 years to become a proper demon slayer. This boy had less than a year to have the stamina to become a demon slayer and a hero, so he had to do a unhuman training if he wanted to save people.
While Izuku was swing his practice sword again, some other Hashiras (Rengoku, Obani and Uzui) appeared to see how the training was going. They could see Izuku face now purple of lack of air as he was trying to keep going while Sanemi was staring at the green haired kid as if he was a sargent.
''You are brutal!'' Said Rengoku
''The brat wants to be a hero and a demon slayer. I am doing what I was asked for it, I am not sugarcoating!'' Said Sanemi serious.
''Agreed, he could just said ´´no´´ but he wants to get stronger and he never tried to train before. He needs to learn pain and Gain.'' Said Obani
''it's a bit flamboyant on how dedicated he is. I wonder how long it will last.'' Said Uzui
''It was a wish from the master, and I couldn't say no. He still need to learn breathing and his body isn't ready yet.'' Said Sanemi.
The other Hashiras knew what the Wind one was talking. To one achieve the Breath Technique the body needs to have a great amount of stamina and power, if someone had a quirk it could be achieved in less time, but Izuku would take a little longer.
Later
Izuku managed to do the 1000 swings, but once he was done he blacked out. It was all black for a few minutes and then he started to open his eyes.
''What…what happened?" Asked Izuku confused.
''Do you feel pain yet?" Asked a new voice.
The boy open his eyes at full, he saw that it was some kind of infirmary room. Talking to him was a girl around his age with the demon slayer uniform, twin tails hair and wearing some blue butterfly clip.
''Who are you?' Asked Izuku nervous.
''I guess we have formally meet, you are so busy with training, names Aoi Kanzaki I am a member of the infirmary here on the Butterfly mansion. You´re Izuku Midoriya right?'' Said Aoi introducing herself.
''Oh hi…yes.'' Said Izuku nervous blushing and looking away.
''Why are you talking like this?" Asked her.
''Uh…'' Said Izuku going back to that shy and super awkward dork that he is.
The girl just let a little laugh and asked the obvious question.
''Let me guess I am the first girl of your age that has talked to you in a while, right?" Asked her.
The question shocked Izuku, and she was totally right.
''How…'' Said him nervous.
''I am also a teenager, I can tell awkward around someone. There are other teens in the master's area and they are all nice. I think once you are done with the whole training you should socialize more, its no fun to be alone.'' Said her.
The green haired kid felt a little bad, he wasn't a social butterfly and he was even happy that he was talking to a girl of his age rate. He was awkward but he could still feel a little better later.
''Listen, I heard from Shinobu-san that you had a rough school life. Let those idiots be idiots, you are getting training that some people wish for it and you are going to save life's. This is way more than those people will ever do in their life's.'' Said Aoi with a smile.
''Yes, you´re right Aoi-chan.'' Said Izuku feeling better because he was getting some comforts words.
''I also heard that you´re received a lot of bullying because you´re quirkless. Tell me are people so obsessed over what kind of quirks in the big cities?" Asked Aoi.
''Uh yes, people will always ask what kind quirk the others have. Which mind sound rude but what kind quirk is yours Aoi-chan?" Asked Izuku.
''My quirk is called ´´Squeeze´´. I can squeeze any liquid from any object, it can be a things like mud or even flowers, if I put them in my hands and squeeze some kind of liquid will come out.'' Said Aoi.
''Oh that awesome. You could do a lot of things with a quirk like that.'' Said Izuku excited to hear about a new quirk. It's been a while.
''Yes, I mostly use to help make new medicine. Like yours which should be arriving any minute.'' Said her and then some new people arrive at the door.
''Aoi-chan we got the medicine.'' Said a sweet childlike voice.
''Oh thanks.'' Said Aoi.
Izuku turned to see who had arrived and was shocked to see three little girls, all of them with white nurse dress and different hair styles, he could even see them as triplets. One had shoulder length hair with bangs framing her face with two pink butterfly clips on each side of her head, the other had her hair parted in the middle with two braided twin tails tied with green butterfly clips and the other one had her hair in low twin tails fastened with blue butterfly clips.
''What!'' Said Izuku confused to see that.
''Oh Izuku, these are some of our helpful nurses. Meet Kiyo Terauchi, Naho Takada and Sumi Nakahara. By the way no they aren't blood sisters but they pretty much act like they are.'' Said Aoi with a smile.
''it's a pleasure to meet you Izuku-kun.'' Said Kiyo.
''Yes, we will help you feel better.'' Said Naho.
''Leave anything to us.'' Said Sumi.
The boy couldn't help but smile at those little girls. So young and wanting to help out in the medical room, they must have a story about this and he was going to ask later, right now he wanted to get better.
''Thank you and I will be glad to have treatment coming from you all.'' Said Izuku happy.
The girls just smile and Aoi just laugh at that. While they were helping Izuku feel comfortable Aoi was doing the finish touches for Izuku medicine.
''Looks like you started some rough training with Sanemi-sama.'' Said Kiyo seeing the cuts on Izuku arms.
''Yes, I ended getting cut by some of the surprise blades during the track.'' Said Izuku with an awkward smile.
''This is the insane. We knew Sanemi-sama was ruthless, but this inhuman.'' Said Naho worried.
''What I told you guys! He is training to be a demon slayer in less than a year, if Sanemi-sama needs to throw him off a cliff to get stronger than we will gladly do it.'' Said Aoi serious.
''Well…Aoi-chan has a point.'' Said Sumi.
While Izuku was laughing at these little girls interactions he wondered one thing.
''Uh Aoi-san, sorry to ask this but…are you a demon slayer too?" Asked Izuku.
''Yes, I passed last year exam, and I am a water breather if you would like to know.'' Said Aoi.
''Oh like Giyu-sama.'' Said Izuku.
''Well kind of. I studied mostly on my own, when it was said that my body was more adapted to learn Water Breathing he tried to teach me but he is not very good with students. I managed to get the gist and learned the basic styles of combat and took the exam.'' Said Aoi.
''Then why aren't you in the field?" Asked Izuku confused.
Aoi stopped making the medicine and she had a look of worry and a bit of regret.
''Not all the demon Slayers are comfortable in the field of action. I might know a breath style and I am a certified Slayer, but I don't want to go on the field and that was a decision that the master approved, so I much rather stay here and treat patients. If anything, I am happy in being a nurse.'' Said Aoi with a smile but it was a fake one.
''Why do you say this?" Asked Izuku
''When I took the exam…I didn't expect to be that kind of test. I did my best but I ended up running and fighting like a maniac. I survived and past, but it was because of pure luck. After two weeks of seeing people getting slaughter by those monsters…it's too much.'' Said Aoi a bit scared.
Izuku saw Aoi face was now sweety and the little girls were also scared. He could tell that Demons have done horrible things to them, he only saw two of them and the King of Demons for a second, he had to prepared what kind of messed up things these monster did to humanity.
''Its ok, you just discover their existence not long ago. I was different, I lost my family to them and would be sent to live in the streets if it weren't for Shinobu-san. I have a good life and sometimes I go to others cities to see how things are going. I think I ended up where I belong.'' Said Aoi with a smile.
''Yes! Aoi-chan is the best.'' Said the trio.
The boy just smile at that. These people took their jobs seriously and there was still a sense of passion and dedication in those areas. Izuku even laugh a little bit, but he was still in pain.
''I can't tell that you are still in pain, your medicine is almost done.'' Said Aoi.
''Oh ok.'' Said Izuku.
Then the girl arrived with a cup with some green substance.
''Here you go.'' Said her.
Izuku took a sip and he spitted out.
'Argh!'' Said him hating the flavor.
''What do you expect? Pumpkin juice?'' Asked Aoi annoyed.
Once he remain his posture, he drank the medicine again and it was now all down the hatch.
''Ok, now you need to rest. Take about a 4 hours sleep and then eat something.'' Said Aoi.
''Thanks Aoi-san.'' Said Izuku.
Soon out of nowhere Sanemi appeared and Izuku let out a squeal of fear.
''Sensei!'' Said Izuku.
''Hey what are you doing here brat? You have to get back into training.'' Said Sanemi pissed.
''Listen here, he is in recovery. He needs to take some time off.'' Said Aoi.
''No way, he has 8 months for the UA exam and only 10 for the final selection. The clock is thinking and we are using every second we have. Now get off your ass!'' Said Sanemi.
''But he…'' Said Aoi trying to stop this but Sanemi was having none of that.
''Corp rules! Now come here you brat!'' Said Sanemi grabbing Izuku by the foot and dragging him out.
''Ouch ouch ouch!'' Said the teen in pain.
''Hey, stop this!'' Said Kiyo.
''Yes, Izuku-kun needs to rest.'' Said Naho.
''Leave him alone!'' Said Sumi.
''Oh shut up!'' Scream Sanemi and the three girls went to hide behind Aoi.
The older girl just look at that scene in a view of pity. She didn't know how Izuku would survive all of this.
''He is going to drive him insane.'' Thoguht her.
A week later.
Izuku was now hiding from Sanemi. It was part of their training, Sanemi had to hunt him for an hour and if he is found Izuku had to do over 500 pushups nonstop. Every time Izuku had failed, but he decided to use the environment for his advantage and hide from the Hashira.
''Playing smart uh!'' Said Sanemi hunting like a wolf
Izuku was hiding in some bushes and it helped that his hair could blend perfectly there. He was just shaking in fear and wonder what kind of sadistic thing Sanemi would do to him if he was found out.
''He is crazy! How come someone like him be a person for good! I don't know why I had to pick his element of all things. What should I do? I am going to die or…'' Thoguht Izuku worried but then someone else spoke.
''Why the unhappy face?" Asked a sweet voice.
Izuku turned around and saw an older woman, with long hair, pink butterfly clips on her head and she was wearing a regular demon slayer corps uniform.
''Are you ok dear?' Asked the woman which was Kanae Koucho.
''Uuuh….'' Said Izuku confused.
''Its ok I am not a ghost; I am just here to make sure you are ok.'' Said her.
''Who are you?''
''My name Kanae Koucho.''
The boy soon put two and two together, plus their faces look familiar.
''Wait a minute, Koucho? Are you related to Shinobu-san?'' Asked Izuku
''Yes she is my little sister.'' Said Kanae with a sweet smile.
''So you´re a hashira"? Asked Izuku confused
''Was one.'' Said her.
''A hashira can resign?" Asked him.
''Yes, a hashira can resign once they felt they have done enough or when they are killed or can no longer fight. I am the last part.'' Said her with a sad look.
Kanae then lift a little bit of her demon slayer uniform and Izuku saw the massive wound on her stomach area. It was like someone tried to cut her open and steal all of her organs, the cuts and skin damage still seemed fresh.
''Aaaah.'' Said Izuku nervous.
''Its ok to be grossed out.'' Said her.
''This is…'' Said Izuku stunned.
''Modern medicine is a miracle. If we didn't have these equipment, I would be a goner for sure.'' Said the woman.
''How did you got something like this?" Asked Izuku.
''Last year I was hunting a powerful demon. He cornered me and managed to do injuries that would kill me for sure. He wanted to see me suffer just for his amazement, he didn't kill me because the sun came out and he ran away. I managed to quickly call headquarters and I went through some long process of recovery.'' Said Kanae with a sad smile.
''He did this…for fun?" Asked Izuku in horror.
''I know you think Sanemi-kun is going hard, but he is trying to make sure you are strong enough to fight the Demons. They aren't as easy to kill and once people with quirk are transformed into ones too it became much more harder to kill them.'' Said Kanae.
''I think he has a point, but there are times that he seems beyond psychopath.' Said Izuku nervous.
''Its because he knows what is to love someone who love. In fact a great amount.'' Said Kanae.
''Uh?" Asked Izuku.
''Sanemi would probably deny this, but he is actually a really sentimental person. If he is training you like this is because he has faint on you. If someone came up to him and told to train this kid that has never wield a sword before he would probably tell them to go to hell. But he can see that you have potential Izuku, look at yourself, not like that skinny kid who stumble your way out into our headquarters right?" Asked Kanae.
The response from the kind woman gave a little bit of hope in Izuku.
''So he has faith in me?" Asked him.
''Yes, he doesn't want to say it, but I know him.'' Said Kanae with a laugh.
There was a moment of silent and Izuku just try to soak inn all the harsh training that he had to do in the last month. He managed to get to this point, and this was already a big achievement.
''You have also a mother living at home right?'' Asked her.
''Yes, my dad works overseas.' Said him.
''Its good, demons never leave Japan because its impossible for them to cross border without facing the sun. So here is something I have to say for you Izuku, cherish your family because they are with you.'' Said Kanae.
''What are you talking about?'' Asked him
''You have parents that are still alive and don't know about this horrifying world. My parents were killed by demons when Shinobu and I were just mere kids. If Gyomei sama hadn't showed up and take us inn to be in the Headquarters we would be in some kind of bad image, but we are happy where we live. We work hard to make sure that nobody passes thought what we did and that everyone gets to live in a nice and safe world.'' Said Kanae.
The statement really put Izuku in a weird mood. He knew the large public didn't know about the existence of demons, but if they did who would be the hero brave enough to attack those things?
''Heroes should do that.'' Thought Izuku thinking on how much heroes were missing.
Kanae then kneeled down and took Izuku hand.
''Izuku listen, I know you got a lot of shut off from people of your age because you are quirkless. Honestly, the quirk doesn't make a person, the person makes up for the quirk. You are a brave, kind and hardworking. I am sure you will be an excellent demon Slayer and hero. You just need to find the right motivation to keep going.'' Said Kanae with a smile.
The teen then started to cry. It was like someone comforting him after all this hard work that he did.
''I know. I finally have a chance to prove myself, and I don't want to waste it.'' Said him.
''Go to your room and rest a bit. I will tell Sanemi to let you go for the day.'' Said her.
''But…'' Said Izuku unsure but Kanae cuts him.
''Go.'' Said her.
The teen nod and went to his room. Kanae see him leaving and then senses Sanemi not too far.
''How long have you been listening?" Asked her.
''Why did you told him about all this?" Asked him.
''He needs some pep talk. He hasn't got much outside from the master. Are you mad that I told you are a softy?" Asked Kanae making Sanemi blush.
''No, I guess emotional backstory is a boost for a hero loving dweeb like him.'' Said him.
''Well then my job is done. Let's go eat dinner.'' Said her.
Sanemi and Kanae soon went to the main area of the headquarters.
''I don't know if this kid can fully manifest a breathing in time.'' Said Sanemi.
''Giyu was a bit unsure about brining him here, but I think it was a good idea.'' Said Kanae.
''That idiot does a lot of crap like this. Is a miracle that he hasn't chopped off his own arm.'' Said Sanemi.
''Also, let Izuku have a day of rest. He needs some.'' Said her.
''Fine, he gets off the hook today, but tomorrow we will have double training!'' Said him serious.
The woman just smile at that as they went to the main area.
With Izuku
Izuku just lay on his bed and he thought about what Kanae and Aoi told him. On how they lost their families to demons and how those monsters are probably out there ruining the life's of so many others.
''1000 years of horror. They are worst than any villain that has ever appeared.' Thoguht Izuku.
He knew he wanted to be a hero and know he felt a good reason. He will be a hero that will make people fell safe and to indicate that is ok to leave at night.
''I will keep going. I will slay any demon I will see!' Thoguht him.
The next day.
On the training grounds
''I see that you are still trying to use your eyes to see around.'' Said Sanemi guiding Izuku with a blind fold.
''So what I am supposed to use sensei?" Asked Izuku.
''Use your nose and ears! Some slayers were blind so you can use your others senses to guide you.'' Said Sanemi.
''Alright.'' Said Izuku.
''You got that perfect.'' Said Sanemi.
''I mean its easier once you have the right amount of practice. Its just depends on how you see the surroundings and overall atmosphere and…'' Said Izuku ready to go on a mumble but Sanemi punch him in the stomach.
Punch
''Stop with this crap.'' Said Sanemi.
''Sorry master.'' Said Izuku.
''You are doing better in the main training areas. Your muscles and reflexes are finally at a good point. Its time for you to learn breathing techniques.'' Said Sanemi much to Izuku excitement.
''I been waiting so long for this!'' Said Izuku.
''Stop with that or I will keep punch you.'' Said Sanemi.
''Yes sensei, I will be in the forest as always.'' Said Izuku leaving.
Sanemi saw this kid running at full speed and he could tell that he had changed a lot since he came here. Not 100% but he was better and less annoying.
''This kid might be able to pull it off.'' Thought him.
Meanwhile
Ubuyashiki and Amane were having some nice time with their children, when Lady Nagant appeared and told them about Izuku progress.
''So Izuku has reached to the point of learning breathing techniques?" Asked Ubuyashiki.
''Yes, in a total of three months of training.'' Said Lady Nagant.
''Wonderful. I knew he could do it.'' Said the leader with a smile as his wives and kids stay near him.
This is it. Izuku is on the way to learn breathing techniques and go like Tanjro did. I don't know how I will do the rock thing, because we are not going to have Sabito helping him out. Does anyone have any suggestion.
By the way, I love a recuring theme that fans of Demons Slayers do in their fan work is having Sanemi and Obani as best friends and they are totally bros in this fic. In future chapters we will have some Wind and Serpent bro moments.
Remember, the Hashira are all quirkless. I thought because of old Japanese styles and traditions the families of these Hashiras never managed to develop quirks. However some other characters do have quirks, if you have an idea for Kanao, Urokodaki, The Demon Slayer trio or other characters please let me know. I am still staying with that idea of the Hashira quirkless and also Ubuyashiki (because of his illness), but Amane has a quirk. Let me know in the comments.
