A new girl in town Chapter 80
Taker
I don't know how soon if at all Wade and the girls will get here. Taker thought. Hunter and I can't stay but she can't be left alone. I need to hire security for her and good security.
Taker walked away from Hunter and picked up the phone again.
Taker turned and went back into the back room again and through to room twelve.
Kayla was still asleep.
I'll just wait with her till her security shows up. Taker thought.
"I'm here looking for Kayla Jacobs." A guy said to the nurse.
"Who are you?" Hunter said immediately bowing up on the guy.
"Cool your jets Taker called me I'm her protection detail." The guy said.
"You, you don't look like much." Hunter said.
"You don't have to be a big muscle head to break someone's neck idiot." The guy said. "Where is Taker."
Hunter indicated the door and the guy walked through it.
I could take him. Hunter thought.
"Carl good to see you." Taker said when he saw the guy.
"Yeah you too. Who's the muscle head outside?" Carl asked.
"Hunter." Taker said.
"Figures." Carl said. "This the girl?"
"Yeah. He already took her once. Drugged three guys to do it." Taker told him.
"I'll take good care of her. I've set up round the clock surveillance on her and the hospital. Nothing is getting near her." Carl said.
"There are three people that my show up for her." Taker said giving Carl a description of Wade, Vanessa and Cassie. "They are her family."
"Ok good to know." Carl said.
"Kayla," Taker said shaking her lightly.
I don't want her waking up with a stranger standing over her. Taker thought.
Kayla woke up with a start as she felt herself being shaken. Her eyes popped open as panic rose.
"What? Oh god, please don't hurt me," she said frantically, hiding her face behind her hands.
"I'll do whatever you want; I swear. Please don't hurt me or anyone else," she said, as helpless tears started running down her cheeks.
"Kayla, It's Taker relax. You're safe now." Taker said trying to sound soothing.
Kayla could hear the words but they didn't make any sense. She didn't feel safe. She couldn't breathe and couldn't figure out who was talking to her or what they wanted.
"Please don't hurt me. Please. I can't do this any more; I can't," she pleaded.
"You said the bomb would go off if I moved. I promise I won't. Please don't kill me," she begged, beginning to hyperventilate.
"Kayla, relax breathe." Taker said more sharply than he intended.
Kayla just cried all the more and began shaking, curling in on herself as if she expected blows to follow.
Damn it this is not working. Taker thought.
"Carl get Hunter. Maybe he can snap her out of this I sure as hell ain't helping." Taker said.
"What's going on?" Hunter asked walking in.
"Taker what did you do to her?" Hunter said seeing Kayla's condition.
"Nothing I tried to wake her up to introduce her to her security and this…" Taker said.
"Don't you know anything about trauma patients." Hunter said. "Jesus.."
What the hell do I do I have to calm her somehow. Hunter thought.
"It's ok Kayla." Hunter said softly as he approached the bed.
Reaching out he took her hand and then with his other hand began to rub her back softly.
"Relax Kayla no one here will hurt you everything is ok now I'm here." Hunter said softly soothingly.
Kayla felt someone touching her... Holding her? She wasn't sure; everything felt so far away.
But she could hear their voice and no one was yelling at her or shaking her any more.
That voice became her lifeline; their hands, a soothing, rhythmic guide out of the darkness.
She felt her strength failing as the worst of her terror vanished and her shoulders slumped.
Good it's working it actually looks like I know what I'm doing. Hunter thought. I'll just keep talking to her and rubbing her back maybe she'll snap out of it.
Then she became aware of who was next to her.
"Hunter?" She asked in a small voice.
"Yes Kayla it's me. Taker is here too." He said. "And some security guy." He added so she wouldn't be startled.
"Why don't you sit up and have a drink. You'll feel better." Hunter said.
Kayla did as he asked. She took the water that was offered and drank gratefully. Then she took a good look around the room for the first time.
Jesus, that guy looks like he could eat the entire fed for breakfast and then go back for seconds. She thought as she spotted the guy who could only be 'security'.
"Sorry, guys," she said, blushing and avoiding 'Taker and the security guy's eyes.
"I... Uh... That doesn't usually happen any more," she added, wishing that the floor would open up and swallow her whole.
"Don't worry about it." Taker said. "You've been through a lot."
"This is Carl." Taker said introducing the security guy. "He and his guys will be watching out for you until this guy is caught."
"Don't worry I know they can be trusted." Taker added.
Kayla nodded.
"Guess I'll have even more reasons to stand out now," she said, forcing a laugh.
"Thanks, 'Taker," she added, reaching out for him.
"If you don't hug me now, I'll have another panic attack and this one really will be your fault," she joked.
"Near death experiences call for hugs,... Please?" she said, aiming for her most pathetic looking expression.
"You know you really don't have to work this hard to get a hug." Taker said with a laugh.
"oh, Really? But you said you don't do hugs, Kayla said, attempting to look innocent.
Taker tried to growl but it sounded more like a laugh.
"I'm outa here. Got a plane to catch." Taker said gruffly turning to leave. "Take good care of her Carl."
"Yeah Kayla unfortunately I have to go too. Or I'll never make the next event and you know Vince." Hunter said.
Kayla sighed but nodded resignedly.
"Hey, Hunter? Before you go?" Kayla asked tentatively, not believing her own nerve.
"Yes Kayla?" Hunter said turning around.
"I just wanted to say thanks," Kayla said looking embarrassed.
"You didn't have to bother looking for me but Yeah... Um. Thanks," she finished as her face reddened.
Really smooth, Kayla. She thought, wishing she hadn't bothered to say anything as soon as the words left her mouth.
Now he probably thinks you're a babbling idiot waiting for a night in shining armor or something...
"It was no problem." Hunter said.
Thank god she didn't ask me to hug her. I'm not sure I could have handled that. Hunter thought.
"I guess I'll see you around... after they give me the all-clear," Kayla said with a shrug.
"If Vince doesn't find a reason to fire me before then," she added, not managing to conceal the bitterness she felt at the thought.
Hunter laughed. "Yeah see you around." Then turned and left.
Taker will make sure she doesn't get fired over this I'm sure. But if he doesn't I may have to step in. Hunter thought.
"One of those 'not funny' things, asshole," Kayla said, hoping he'd hear her. But she couldn't help little laughing anyway. Not quite dead thing made Vince look like a cake-walk.
DX
"He missed his flight and didn't show up at the Arena." Tori whined. "Where could he be Vince is pissed."
"If I knew I would tell Vince not you." Chyna said.
"Yeah," Jessie said.
"Vince is so pissed he's got us in a title match against LOD tonight." Billy said.
"What are we gonna do without Hunter." Jessie complained.
"What we always do." Chyna said. "Watch out for each other. I'm sure he has a good reason for not being here. He'll turn up."
Al Snow
"Yes head that's what I said Hunter and Taker are both missing." Al said as he walked down the hall. "No I don't know maybe they are off killing each other somewhere."
LOD
"Tonight will be easy." Animal said. "With no Hunter the group will fall apart."
"Yes." Said Hawk. "Hunter is the only reason they manage to keep winning like they do. We'll take those titles tonight."
Taker/Sammy
"Sammy it's Taker." He said as she answered the phone.
"Yeah hun." She said.
"Is there any news." Taker asked
"No, no change at all. The pressure hasn't gone up but it hasn't gone down either. It just stays the same. He won't move from her side unless he is banished by the doctor."
"I don't see that changing unless she wakes up Sammy. It's good that you decided to stay." Taker said. "I really appreciate you looking after Kane."
"I'm happy to do it. I just wish there were more I could do for both of them." She said.
"You are already doing everything you can." Taker said. "I have to board a plane. I'll call when I get a chance. Please call if there is any change at all."
"You know I will." Sammy said.
Kayla
"Mrs. Jacobs I'm here to take you to your room." The orderly said as he approached the gurney.
Kayla shrugged.
"You're the boss," she said.
But if I'm here for too long, I'll lose it from boredom. I'm already too used to being on the road. She thought.
"You're too trusting Kayla." Carl said approaching the orderly. He checked the guys badge thoroughly and only then allowed him to touch the gurney.
"You can meet her up in her room it's 301." The orderly said.
"Oh no where she goes I go. She doesn't leave my sight." Carl said smiling, but the smile never reached his eyes.
Kayla sighed.
"Right. Sorry. If we're going, let's move. And since I'd rather not have any near-death experiences until I'm over this one, he comes with me," Kayla said, indicating Carl with a slight wave.
The orderly wheeled her to an elevator and then to her room.
Carl checked the room completely before allowing the orderly to bring her in.
Once she was inside he took up a post just inside the door where he could see the door the window and Kayla without moving.
Well, this is fucking awkward. Kayla thought, looking over at Carl once the orderly had gone.
Looks like tall, dark and expressionless won't be adding to the entertainment value of this place but I've gotta try.
Then she yawned.
Maybe I'll sleep first. She decided, allowing her eyes to close.
Taker
"What do you mean I've been bumped to coach." Taker asked.
"I'm sorry sir we over booked first class. Your ticket was bumped to coach this is your new seat assignment." The agent said giving him the ticket.
"This is a window seat." Taker said trying to calm himself. "I don't fit in a window seat."
"Perhaps you can trade with someone once on board." She said.
Taker took a few deep breaths.
I have to get to the event. I have to get to the event. He repeated to himself. Then he took his ticket and headed to the boarding area.
Once on board he tried unsuccessfully to trade seats with someone on an aisle but no one wanted to budge so he squashed himself down into the window seat and waited for takeoff.
Just as they were closing the doors they reopened them and Hunter came on board. With a smile the Airline Stewardess led him to first class. Taker growled low in his chest making the person sitting next to him grow pale.
Taker/Cena/Hunter
What the fuck! Taker thought when someone slammed into him and hugged him when he arrived at the next arena.
"Cena get the fuck off me!" Taker growled.
"You found her! I'm So glad you found her." Cena said stepping back but still bouncing on his toes.
"You wanna hug someone for finding her hug Hunter." Taker said. "Don't ever do that again."
Taker brushed past the stunned Cena and walked toward his locker room.
Hunter found her? Why was he even looking for her? NO way in hell I'm hugging Hunter. Cena
thought.
Arriving at the arena Hunter headed for his locker room.
"Hunter."
"What do you want Cena." Hunter asked with his best piss off voice.
"Thanks for finding Kayla."
"Yeah whatever." Hunter said
She had a lot of friends around here I guess. Hunter thought.
DX
"Where have you been." Tori cried when Hunter walked into the locker room.
"Taking care of something." Hunter said.
"Taking care of what." Tori asked.
"If I wanted you to know I would have told you." Hunter said.
I know they will find out eventually but I don't want to deal with it right now. Hunter thought.
"Did everything go smoothly while I was gone Chyna?" Hunter asked.
"Like clockwork Hunter. They had a title defense and as always we backed each other up and they won." She said.
"Good." Hunter said. "Just as I expected."
"Please don't leave without telling us again Hunter." Tori whined.
"Tori go for a walk." Hunter said sick of her voice.
"But you just…" Tori began.
Hunter glared at her and she left.
Hunter sighed and shook his head.
Why do I even put up with her. Why? Hunter thought.
