A new girl in town Chapter 81
Taker
Walking into his locker room Taker looked around.
Feels weird to have a single again. It's been a while since I've had a locker room to myself. It's really quiet. Even though Kane isn't the most talkative person you can feel him in a room same with J.J. and even Sammy. Now the room feels dead lifeless. Taker thought.
Taker changed and took a seat before opening a book.
It's hard to concentrate even. He thought wishing it was time for the meeting already.
Tori/Hunter
I'll show him. Tori thought walking out of the DX locker room. I'm important too.
Walking around backstage she began to listen at doors hoping to hear a bit of gossip she could use to make Hunter happy.
"Oh they found her." She heard at one door.
"She was almost dead." She heard at another.
"Won't be coming back anytime soon." She heard another person say.
This is gold wait till I tell him. She thought rushing back to the locker room.
Tori burst into the locker room.
"You'll never guess what I heard Hunter." Tori said beaming. "That Bitch That Kayla bitch well they found her she was nearly DEAD isn't that great.. she won't be coming back any time soon."
That's it I can't believe she actually said that where does she get off saying that. Hunter thought.
"TORI you unmitigated BITCH… I'm the one that found her. NO it's not great that she was nearly dead and I hope she gets well and comes back soon." Hunter growled. "You however are going to be nearly dead if I ever see you again. You are gone out of DX and better get out of my sight NOW."
"Hunter don't throw me out. I didn't know. How was I supposed to know. I'm sorry really sorry. Please the other diva's will hurt me cause I was DX please Hunter." Tori whimpered and whined.
"Too bad I don't care get out." Hunter said shaking his head and pointing to the door.
He can't do this to me. Tori thought crying as she walked out the door. I'll show him I'll show everyone and I'll get Kayla she caused all of this this is all her fault.
Clap Clap Clap
Hunter turned his head to see Chyna doing a slow clap and nodding her head.
Guess she's been waiting for that as long as I've been wanting to do it. Hunter thought.
Looking over at the Road dogs he saw shock on their faces but no other reaction
If he can throw her out like that with no warning like he did X-Pac he can do the same to me. Billy thought or Jessie.
Shit. Jessie thought we're all screwed the second he's had enough of us or we aren't useful anymore.
Tori/Vince
"Come in" Vince said wondering who'd be bothering him before a show.
"Vince." Tori whimpered crying. "Hunter threw me out of DX Now the diva's are gonna hurt me you have to make him let me back in DX you have to."
"HAHAH." Vince laughed. "Do you really think I care who Hunter does and does not have in DX I don't know why he kept you to begin with you can't fight. NOW get out."
Taker/Hunter
Taker walked into the talent meeting and noticed Tori was not sitting with Hunter and crew.
Wonder what's going on there. She's sitting near the diva's and not looking happy at all. Taker thought.
Just then Vince walked in with an obvious hair across his ass.
"You people are driving me up a wall. This one is taking off to do this and that one is taking off to do that. Half my roster disappears at any given time and with no good excuse. That is UNACCEPTABLE! This one is being stalked, and that one is being harassed or picked on and another is being kicked out of their little clique. Well enough is ENOUGH this is WRESTLING people not kindergarten. I won't have it anymore do you hear me. You will show up to events you will do your damn jobs. IS THAT CLEAR!"
No one said anything but there were several people nodding.
"It better be because I will not hesitate to start firing people I don't care who you are." Vince said.
Taker just stood there without moving and waited while the matches were handed out then he headed out of the room.
I wonder if he'd fire his golden boy if it came down to it? Taker thought.
Wow he's really pissed. Hunter thought. I wonder if he'd even fire me?
Cena/Al
"Cena I haven't seen Kayla around. Have you seen her?" Al said.
"Al she's in the hospital." Cena said.
"See head I told you something was wrong." Al said talking to the mannequin head.
"What happened?" Al asked Cena.
"She was kidnapped. But now she's found and she's in the hospital." Cena said hoping to escape Al's company quickly.
"If she was missing you should have asked me and head to help find her Head is really good at finding stuff." Al said. "One time…" Al started.
"Really Al I have to go. I have a thing." Cena said picking up the pace.
"Oh ok we'll talk later." Al shouted after him.
"See I told you but you wouldn't listen and she was kidnapped and now she's in the hospital. But you kept saying nothing was wrong I don't know why I even listen to you." Al told head as they walked down the hall.
Cena
Thank god I got away from him. I mean I know Kayla says I should be nice to the guy but oh god how do you deal with that. He's just so gone. Cena thought.
Kayla
This has been the slowest two weeks of my life. Kayla thought as she stared out the window.
All she'd had to entertain her was the view of cars going by in the street below; nurses coming to take her vitals and administer IV fluids; doctors poking and prodding at her; and Carl and his 'I'll turn you to stone if you even think of doing anything I don't like' looks.
She felt trapped and bored but was stuck until they decided she could be discharged.
She hadn't even had any visitors to break up the monotony. She thought that at least one person from home would have come to see her but her hopes had been dashed.
Why hasn't anyone bothered to call? She wondered unhappily.
She hadn't spent this much time alone since she'd been recovering overseas from the injuries which had almost cost her her life. Tye had been in the middle of a season; he'd offered to catch the next flight out to visit her, but she hadn't been ready for him to see the results of her accident up close.
Now, she'd give almost anything to have him call and offer to visit again.
Wade and the girls hadn't called, either. They had to know by now that she was here, didn't they?
Could whoever's responsible for me needing to be here have done something? She asked herself.
But much as she tried to figure out how that could be, she couldn't get that train of thought to make sense.
One of the nurses would have to let me know if I'd had a call waiting or a visitor. She decided.
I'm still with it enough to decide those things for myself.
But I've been asleep a lot. She realized.
She sighed and continued staring outside, wishing that she could get back to the way things were - before being stalked had taken over her life.
SHE was brought abruptly out of her thoughts by a knock on the door.
Before she could give whoever it was permission to enter, Carl was there, taking charge as usual.
After the usual checks and explanations were gone through, Carl stepped aside enough for a young doctor to come over to her.
Kayla recognized him from previous visits but she couldn't remember his name. Not that it mattered; every visit had been like the one before it.
"Ms. Jacobs, you may remember me; I'm doctor Davis," the doctor said.
He's actually bothering with pleasantries? Kayla thought, trying not to laugh.
Doctor Davis looked at her expectantly.
The answer is 42, doc. She thought. It's always 42.
"Yeah, I remember seeing you around," she said instead.
"Good. Well, I'm here to let you know that we're almost ready to discharge you," doctor Davis said.
He began flipping through her chart, talking to her about test results and factors which had led to their decision, but Kayla paid little attention.
She was finally getting out. The how's and why's didn't really matter.
"We'd like to keep you for one more night to do a final blood draw. If the results are consistent with what we've been seeing, you should be able to go home tomorrow. How does that sound?" the doctor concluded.
"Where do I sign?" Kayla asked.
Doctor Davis laughed.
"Don't get ahead of yourself just yet," he said. Then he reached for her arm to start the vitals routine all over again.
Kayla sighed but there was no point fighting it. If all went well, this would be one of the last checks she had to deal with.
Just focus on tomorrow. She thought. Tomorrow might mean out of here...
Carl took out his phone and had a brief quite conversation after the doctor left then went back to standing quietly.
Kayla looked over at Carl with his phone in his hand and frowned.
"Where did you get that? Have you had that this entire time?" She asked, sounding annoyed.
"Yes. Of course." He said.
"And you didn't let me use it even once because?" Kayla asked.
"Its for the job." Carl replied.
"But right now, I am the job," Kayla said, pouting.
"No watching you is the JOB. You are the client. And technically you are not even that because Taker is paying us." Carl said.
"Great. Client equals prisoner. Got it," Kayla shot back.
"You aren't in chains so you are not a prisoner. I would however refrain from trying to leave the room." Carl said. "You're getting out tomorrow and you can get a phone then."
"Fine. Logic me to death. But I don't have to be happy about it," Kayla said, rolling her eyes.
"But this place is driving me crazy and you've had a phone this whole time and I'm bored," she added.
"Have you decided where you're going yet. My guys have to make arrangements." Carl said.
"I need to get back on the road. I have a job to get back to," Kayla replied.
"Ok, I'll make the arrangements with my guys." Carl said taking out his phone again. He had a brief conversation and made a second brief call then put it away. Both conversations were held quietly so that Kayla couldn't hear what was said.
Why is he being so secretive? Kayla wondered but she didn't bother asking. Talking to Carl was like pulling teeth.
"Your flight and Room will be setup by my guys. So we can be sure they are secure. You will have to have them paid for however they usually get paid for when you travel with the company." Carl said.
"That's fine. As long as I'm booked at the same hotel the rest of the company is staying at, there won't be an issue, and I get the receipts." she added."
Taker/Sammy
"She's coming in today. Carl will have taken care of everything." Taker said.
"Should we tell Cena or APA?" Sammy asked.
"Why?" Taker said somewhat angrily. "They won't be in charge of her security anymore."
No but they are her friends. Sammy thought deciding not to say anything.
Kayla
Nothing like getting back on a regular schedule. Kayla thought as she arrived at the hotel.
Never thought I'd be this happy to be staying at a hotel. She mused with an internal laugh.
"I'm getting food," Kayla said over her shoulder as she cleared the hotel entrance.
"Check-in can wait. Food and coffee can't," she added as she headed for the restaurant.
Cena/John/Kayla/Al/Hunter
"I'm telling you John Big show could eat….Kayla…" Cena said jumping up from the table.
"He could not." John said not immediately seeing what Cena was.
Cena abandoned breakfast and rushed across the room. John's eyes followed him and soon John too was on his feet and moving in that direction.
"Kayla." Cena shouted scooping her up in a hug that nearly knocked her off her feet then lifting her up.
"Put her down." Carl said looking menacing.
Just then John joined them and tapped Cena on the shoulder.
"My turn man." John said.
"Not yet I ain't done." Cena said.
A couple of minutes later Cena reluctantly relinquished Kayla and John scooped her up.
"I missed you guys, too," Kayla said blushing.
"So, what's been -
Suddenly, she felt arms wrapping around her from behind.
"What the fuck?" she yelled as whoever it was hugged her.
Her normally instinctive balance failed and she felt herself falling, propelled by an obviously crazy person with a death wish.
She fell face-first into Jon and blindly reached out for something to steady herself.
"Get off!" she yelled.
Her grasp caught John and Cena and they all went down in a heap along with whomever had grabbed hold from behind.
"We missed you so much." Kayla heard and instantly knew the voice to be Al Snow.
"What the hell Al." Kayla said. "You couldn't just hug me like a normal person."
"It was Head's fault." Al said shifting so he wasn't right on top of her.
"What the hell is going on?" Hunter asked looking at the pile of people on the restaurant floor. "Can't you people behave in a normal manner just once."
"Apparently it's Head's fault." Kayla said from the middle of the pile.
Hunter reached down and took Kayla's hand and helped her up leaving the rest of them on the floor.
Hunter/Kayla
Hunter lead Kayla to a table half expecting her to pull away.
I hope she'll have breakfast with me. I'd like to hear more about what happened to her. Hunter thought.
"Too much crazy for you?" Kayla asked, trying not to laugh.
"Al alone is too much crazy for anyone." Hunter said deadpan.
"So. . . breakfast, I guess?" Kayla asked.
"If you are willing. I'd like to talk." Hunter said.
"As long as I get coffee that isn't decaf. Pots and pots of coffee," Kayla said, trying to lighten the mood.
Hunter laughed as they took a seat.
"Does your shadow plan on eating too or does he just plan on glaring at everyone who comes near you?" Hunter asked.
Carl smirked at Hunter and just took up a position where he could see Kayla and most of the room.
The waiter came and they ordered with Kayla ordering a pot of coffee instead of a cup.
"Would it be too much to talk about what happened?" Hunter asked.
"So, how does one start a conversation about one of their top 5 shittiest moments, anyway?" Kayla asked once the waiter had left. Your move; I'm done making them first. She thought.
"I don't know." Hunter said. "Can we start with waking up?"
"The way you must have found me was the way I woke up," she said. "Not much to tell, there."
"They made it clear that me being 'gone' had been their end goal all along. They even did the whole 'voice disguise' thing," she said.
"He also said that someone I knew helped him - that I'd been well-protected but not well-protected enough. He made a point of letting me know that it was someone who hated me and wanted me gone by whatever means necessary. Ringing any bells?" she concluded, looking Hunter straight in the eye, all traces of earlier humor gone from her expression.
You better not forget where I've come from. She thought as she held his gaze.
You aren't the only one who can play games around here. She thought, not sparing any thought for the lie she'd just told if it was the means to an end.
"What makes you think I wanted you gone by 'Any means necessary'? It was just a game after all." Hunter said. "I push you push. All in good fun."
"Right. . .' Until people start getting hurt to further the 'fun', I suppose. Funny; I don't see x-pac or J.J. around. Last I'd heard, Sean's still a mess As for J.J. she's been unconscious with no change in her responsiveness for weeks," Kayla said. "She's had swelling to her brain, Hunter. They've had to go in and relieve the pressure at least once that I know of. This is not a fucking joke; there could be life-altering changes for her. This stopped being 'just a game'' a long time ago. About time you caught up," Kayla finished.
"X-Pac was business. He needed a lesson and he got one. Business is business. J.J. is another matter. My request was misunderstood. It wasn't supposed to go like that. Just bumps and bruises that's all. I can't control everything." Hunter said. "You don't think I know that." Hunter said. "It stopped being a game when you got kidnapped. When J.J. didn't get up. But I can't change any of that."
"Who did it?" Kayla asked, not missing a beat.
"You better tell me everything you know right here and right now. If you leave out a single detail, I'll know. You have one shot, so I'd choose wisely if I were you," she said, her expression hardening into one that meant all business.
"Who did what? Tell you what? Choose what wisely?" Hunter asked sounding bewildered.
"Let's start with what you said about me being kidnapped 'going too far', shall we?" Kayla said.
Hunter sighed and rolled his eyes. Then took a deep breath.
She's gonna jump over the table and kill me. She probably can to being a marine. Hunter thought idly.
"There was this guy. Said he was an old marine buddy of yours. Said he owed you one and wanted to play a few pranks on you. So I gave him a couple of key cards and some info. It was just supposed to be a couple of pranks nothing more." Hunter said clenching his fists under the table in preparation for the onslaught.
"What was his name? What did he look like? Are their any specific things you can remember that might help me narrow it down?" Kayla asked.
"His name was Dave… or was it Dan. He was smaller than me and had dark hair. Oh and really bad breath. He was dressed in camo." Hunter said as if that was a perfect description.
"You're fucking hopeless," Kayla said, trying not to laugh in spite of herself.
"I hate to break it to you but aside from 'bad breath' - which. . .' Why do you even remember that? Pretty much every one is 'smaller than you''," kayla finished, rolling her eyes.
"Hey I remembered the camo and the dark hair too." Hunter said trying not to laugh at Kayla's rolling eyes.
"Besides big show isn't smaller than me."
Kayla laughed.
"It isn't much to go on. Are you sure there isn't anything else you can think of that could help the cops track this guy down?" Kayla asked.
"You can't take this to the cops. I can't be implicated in this. It'll ruin me. Kayla this has got to stay between us." Hunter said seriously. "How do we even know the guy I gave info to is even the one who kidnapped you."
Kayla sighed.
"I guess there's no way to prove it was the same person," she said reluctantly.
"But that means this isn't over; not by a long-shot. Once he knows I'm not dead. . . Fuck!" kayla said, as a new realization hit her.
"You may have more to worry about if he finds out you were the one who found me. If it's the same guy you helped - and that makes the most sense because I wasn't harmlessly pranked; I had my room broken into while I was sleeping and things of mine taken, received death threats and warnings on my phone multiple times a day. . .' Oh, and did I mention pictures from Iraq I could have gone without seeing ever again? This is some" who isn't one for making mistakes or getting caught. And if he knows you found me. . .' Who's to say?" she said.
"I didn't even think about it. If he meant you to die down there he may not be done." Hunter said. "I'd stick close to your security at all times if I were you."
"What about you? What if you're now on his shit-list, too?" Kayla asked.
He's an asshole but I can't handle anyone else being hurt because of me. She thought
"I don't think he'd come for me." Hunter said pouring the last of his coffee into her cup.
Kayla took a sip.
"That." he said smiling. "is called sharing."
Kayla suddenly blew coffee all over the table, Hunter and herself.
"What the HELL!" Hunter shouted.
Kayla sat there laughing uncontrollably.
"It's not funny." Hunter said.
"It's your fault." Kayla laughed. "You made me snarf."
"I made you what?" Hunter asked.
"Snarf." Kayla said still laughing.
"What the hell is "Snarf"" Hunter asked.
"Laugh liquid out my nose." Kayla said starting to get control of herself. "Don't tell me you've never done it."
"No I haven't" Hunter said.
"Not blueblood enough for you?" Kayla asked, rolling her eyes.
"You owe me another pot 'cause of that, by the way. And a donut," she added, trying not to laugh again.
"Another time. I need to change." He said with a half-smile getting to his feet.
"Don't like the drenched look… might make a good ring entrance." Kayla said.
Hunter just smiled and turned to go.
