A new girl in town Chapter 82

She knew more than I thought she did already. It looks like I could be in deeper shit than I thought. I never should have given that guy anything even if he said it was just for pranks. That was a mistake. I don't usually make mistakes. Hunter thought. But I've made a few where Kayla is concerned.

What do I do now I just said we'd get together again? Why did I say that? What was I thinking?

Do I want to spend time with her? Kinda yeah but why before I found her I would have said hell no. What changed? What the hell is wrong with me? I kicked Tori out because of her? Why do I suddenly care about her?

What the hell was all that? Kayla wondered as she looked down at herself still covered in cooling coffee.

I better change too. She thought as she stood up. She dropped some money on the table before leaving, then looked over at her security.

"We need to replace my phone," she said, over she shoulder as she headed for the door.

"I hate to say it, but we're heading to the mall. After I get changed." Kayla said.

Kane/Sammy

"Kane," Sammy said, stepping into icu. "I think it's time you took a break and got something to eat."

Kane looked up but there didn't seem to be any understanding in his eyes.

"Kane hun. You need to take a break to eat." Sammy repeated putting her hand on his shoulder.

Kane shook his head no and went back to staring at his wife.

"Kane I'm not taking no for an answer you haven't eaten all day. Go." Sammy said. "I'll stay with her I promise I won't leave her side."

Finally Kane stood and looked at Sammy then with a deep breath he turned to go.

Sammy took his seat beside J.J. and took her hand.

Why won't she wake up. Kane wondered it's been so long. Walking quickly down the hallway he went into the cafeteria and got some food and ate quickly in a hurry to get back to J.J.

Wake up J.J. Sammy silently pleaded with her friend. Kane needs you so much he's a wreck without you.

Kane returned faster than Sammy expected but she immediately relinquished the seat to him.

"Did you eat or just walk around a bit?" Sammy asked.

"I ate." Kane said. Taking J.J.'s hand again.

"Good." Sammy said.

"J.J. baby I'm back. Won't you please come back to me." Sammy heard as she walked toward the door.

Kayla/Cena

Getting a new phone didn't take long, though she spent longer than she would have liked repeatedly telling the salesperson that yes, she really had lost her phone and no, she couldn't get it back.

Once that was taken care of, she found herself exhausted and headed, security in toe, back to the hotel.

How can I be so tired? She wondered as the cab pulled into the parking lot of the hotel.

I know I'm out of the loop but I'm stronger than this. She thought as they headed up to her room.

"Do we have my stuff or do we need to get it from one of the guys?" she asked as she noted the absence of her things for the first time.

Heading up to her room she saw Cena standing outside with her bags.

"Is that my stuff." Kayla asked.

"Yeah I grabbed it when you disappeared. I put it on the truck cause I knew you would need it." Cena said.
"You are the best." Kayla said hugging him.

"Everything is there except your phone, I think. I don't know where that went." Cena said.

"I just got a new one." Kayla said.

"Excellent." Cena said. "I didn't want to put it in your room because I didn't want to go in."

"I appreciate that Jon." Kayla said.

"Good I'll see you later." Cena said, walking away with a grin. "Its good to have you back."

"Good to be back." Kayla replied.

Kane/Sammy/J.J.

Sammy walked into the ICU and watched Kane sitting beside the bed for a moment.

He's still as a statue but I can hear him whispering to her. Sammy thought. I wonder what he's saying.

Kane stopped talking feeling someone's eyes on him he kissed J.J.'s hand and looked up to find Sammy watching him.

Kane cocked his head.

"You need a break Kane it's been hours." Sammy said.

Kane didn't argue. It had become routine for her to come in and demand he take a break. He knew arguing wouldn't do any good.

Standing he waited for Sammy to take his seat then he left the room and wandered down to the cafeteria to get a bite to eat and then return.

Then noise is different. J.J. thought. This one seems lighter not so deep. More of a whisper than a hum. Why did it change?

Kane returned and took his place once more and Sammy returned to the waiting room and took out her kindle.

I wonder how long this will go on? How long will she stay unconscious? I know he'll never give up even if she never wakes. Sammy thought.

The hum is back J.J. thought. Why does it change sometimes? Where am I? Why is it so dark?

Kane sat talking his voice a non-stop litany of memories and hopes for them.

"Please hear me J.J. I need you to come back to me." Kane whispered repeatedly.

Cena

Back in his room Cena starts making phone calls to every wrestler he has on his contacts list.

"This is gonna be the biggest party this fed has seen in years." Cena said to himself as he invited the last of the guests.

"But no way am I inviting Al and head. I just can't face him talking to that mannequin head all night." He told himself. "I think I've got everyone one covered. At least all the decent people all the fun ones."

Kayla

Kayla was sitting in her room trying to relax when her hotel phone rang.

"Hey Kayla it's Al." the voice said.

"What's up Al." Kayla asked.

"Well head wanted to invite you to a party tonight." Al said.

"OH yeah who's party." Kayla asked.

"Who's party." Kayla heard Al ask head.

"Head you can't invite her to that party. She's not supposed to know about that party it's a surprise." Al said hanging up.

Kayla shook her head in utter confusion as Al hung up.

What the hell was that? She asked herself, trying to piece together what Al had said.

A party that I'm not supposed to know about... that can only mean one thing. She decided.

"Guess Al ruined the surprise," Kayla said laughing.

Deciding that she didn't have time for a nap, Kayla grabbed a few essentials and left the room.

If I'm gonna be partying tonight, I definitely need more coffee. She thought.

Silent as ever, her bodyguard trailed behind her as she headed back downstairs to the hotel restaurant.

Heading down the hall she ran into Hunter.

"Where are you two headed." Hunter asked.

"I was thinking about getting more coffee," Kayla replied.

"How about you?"

"I was gonna try this new thing called eating food. You should join me it's really catching on." Hunter said snidely.

Kayla laughed.

"Food, huh? Yeah, I hear there are all kinds of that. Where were you planning on eating?" Kayla replied deciding to try and keep things light.

"I know a place not far from here." Hunter said. "Food is great."

"I don't know." Kayla's security spoke up. "I haven't had a chance to check the place out."

"Seriously." Hunter said. "There is room in the SUV for you. You'll be there the whole time."

"I understand where you're coming from but after two weeks of hospital crap, I need real food," Kayla said.

"Besides, Hunter's got a point; you'll be right there the whole time. Besides, how much trouble can we really get into at a restaurant?" Kayla added.

"I understand where you're coming from but after two weeks of hospital crap, I need real food," Kayla said.

"Besides, Hunter's got a point; you'll be right there the whole time. Besides, how much trouble can we really get into at a restaurant?" Kayla added.

"Ok but if I say we leave we leave immediately no questions asked." The security guy said.

"OK." Kayla and Hunter said together."

"I've been here a few times." Hunter said as they arrived at the restaurant. "It's pretty upscale food wise but not dress code wise." He added as they walked in.

They were quickly seated and given menus.

Before long Hunter knew exactly what he wanted to order for them.

He motioned for the waiter.

"We're ready to order.. "The lady will have…" Hunter began.

"A cheese burger and coke with a side of fries," Kayla said before Hunter could finish.

The waiter's head swung toward her and his eyes widened "My lady we don't.."

Hunter's mouth fell open in shock.

Kayla laughed inwardly.

I'm gonna have some fun with this and make a point at the same time. She thought.

"Oh, right; my bad. I meant a chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy and a root beer float," she said looking hopeful.

The waiter visibly blanched… "We are not that kind of establishment my lady…"

Hunter began to redden.

Oh, right; of course. In that case, I'd like deep fried pickles, a fully loaded pizza and curly fries," she said.

"I don't know where you think you are this is not denny's or some roadside stand this is Mitchell's and we do not serve that kind of food here!" the waiter said quite sternly turning to leave.

Hunter now nearly purple started to stand up.

Before Hunter could get fully to his feet, Kayla grabbed the waiter's arm.

"I'm joking. Completely not serious. Just making a point," Kayla said before he could leave. "I'm just trying to make a point to my friend here."

Hunter sat back down bewildered.

"Can you give us a few minutes?" Kayla asked.

The waiter nods and leaves.

"What the hell was that all about?" Hunter demands. "You just embarrassed the hell out of me."

Oh, i'm so sorry," Kayla shot back.

"But I'm not the one ordering on behalf of someone else here," she said.

"You did that because I tried to order for you. Where I come from it's the normal thing to do." Hunter said.

"Well where I come from, it's rude. I make my own decisions," she said.

"Fine." Hunter growled.

"And that goes for everything," she said.

"I make my own decisions, period."

"Fine." Hunter growled again.

Just then the waiter came back over and looked at Hunter.

"Ladies first." Hunter said indicating Kayla should order first.

The waiter looked at her with just a bit of trepidation.

"I'll have the seafood and steak special," Kayla said.

"I'll have the same." Hunter said with a smile.

The waiter nodded and walked away.

"That's what I was going to order for us. It's always really good." Hunter said smiling.

"It's one of the best ways to test a new place's offerings, I find," Kayla said, smiling in spite of herself.

Hunter just smiled.

Before long their food arrived and they didn't talk much as they ate.

Kayla almost felt bad for her security detail.

Before long they were on their way back to the hotel.

Walking across the hotel lobby the clerk called out.

"Ms. Jacobs you have a message."

Kayla went over to the desk.

"Yes?" she asked.

The clerk handed her a sealed envelope with her name on the front.

Kayla looked at the envelope in confusion as she walked away.

Once off to the side, she quickly ripped it open to find a note from John.

"He's the worst liar ever," Kayla said as she finished reading.

"What does it say?" Hunter asked. "And who is it from?"

"See for yourself," Kayla said, handing him the note.

"So Cena has a bag for you?" Hunter said.

"No, he doesn't. I have all of my stuff," Kayla said.

"That was his first miscalculation; that I wouldn't notice," she added.

"I'm confused." Hunter admitted begrudgingly.

"I was too when Al called me," Kayla said trying to draw things out.

"If that nuts involved no wonder I'm confused." Hunter said.

"Well, I was going to invite you to this party that I wouldn't have known about if 'Head' hadn't accidentally let it slip but if you don't want to come..."

"Don't you mean Al let slip. You do know head ain't real?" Hunter said.

"Hell if I know but does it matter? you're coming, right?"

"No really you don't think head is real?" Hunter said.

"No, but he's got the best weed so whatever," Kayla said.

"I don't even want to know." Hunter said shaking his head.

"So are you coming or not?" Kayla asked.

"You know I'm not wanted there." Hunter said. "I'll probably be told to leave."

"But I want you there," Kayla said." And it's my party, so fuck 'm," she added.

"OK but if things get out of hand I'm leaving." Hunter said.

I don't know why she wants me there. I'm only going to cause problems. This is really a stupid move on my part to even go. I'm going to be so outnumbered if they try something I'm screwed. But I want to go. I don't know why but I want to be around her I like being around her.

"Do you need to take care of anything before we go?" Kayla asked.

"'Cause I could really use a smoke."

"Just have to check in with the crew." Hunter said. "It won't take long."

"No problem. Will you meet me down here when you're done? Then we can go together if you want," Kayla said.

"Yeah that sounds good." Hunter said.

DX

Hunter walked into the Hotel suite and saw Jessie and Billy on the couch watching tv while Chyna flipped through a magazine. He walked past them into his bedroom and changed his shirt.

"Do what you guys want tonight but don't get into any trouble we have an event tomorrow and I don't want to hear it from Vince. I'm going out." Hunter said.

"You just got back." Chyna said. "Where are you going now."

"It doesn't matter. I'll be back later." Hunter said.

I'll bet he's going out with that Kayla bitch again. We're supposed to be together and he's hanging out with her instead of me. Chyna thought. But we'll see about that.

"Cool." Billy said. "We'll just hit a couple of bars then. Right Jessie."

"Yeah." Jessie replied.

"Whatever just keep out of trouble." Hunter said walking out the door.

What is going on with me? Kayla asked herself as she headed back outside for a smoke.

Her thoughts ran as she smoked one then lit up another.

Part of thinks I'm setting myself up for trouble but the other likes being around him. She thought.

Which part do I listen to? She wondered.

I won't get anywhere smoking a third. She thought as she butted out and went back inside.

I miss smoking without a constant presence. She thought as she waited in the lobby.

Spotting Hunter coming toward her, she couldn't help but smile.

Looking up he saw Kayla coming toward him and smiled.

What am I getting myself into with this? He wondered not for the first time.

"Off to a party." Hunter said trying to sound happier about it than he was.

"I'm not really in the mood for a party right now but it would be rude of me not to," Kayla admitted feeling bad for not being more grateful.

"It'll be good for you. Besides your public has missed you." Hunter said with a grin.

Kayla smiled.

"Thanks for coming with me. If things get too crazy, I'm gonna book it too," she said, not wanting to get on Vince's shit list any more than she already was.

Just then they arrived at Cena's room.

Kayla knocked.

A moment later the door opened.

"What the hell are you doing here." Cena asked looking pointedly at Hunter.

"He's with me." Kayla said just as pointedly.
