Castle's face displayed the grim determination of someone planning a funeral instead of the love and joy that should accompany the question

Kate's answer. "He looked so serious, kneeling before her, the lines of his face tight, eyes carefully guarded. She hurt him. She knew that and even still…He wanted to marry her." Spoilers for Watershed.

Castle kicks his shoes off and wanders over to her side of the bed, not sure if he's crazy or if something is off. Really, being him, it could be either. When he reaches her he finds her curled around their little Lucy, her graceful hand sweeping across the infant's head of soft down hair.

A/U It's definitely not love at first sight. Prickly, aloof and strait-laced Kate Beckett isn't what Rick expected when he hires someone to protect a young Alexis. She's all business while he's all about the play. Shallow, irresponsible and a playboy is how Beckett would characterize her latest employer.
