Epilogue
The next morning, Charlie, Sarah, and Rex walked into the Major Crimes unit to find that Inspector Siku was already at the desk she'd received upon her being seconded to the unit as an RCMP liaison. They bid her good morning and the younger detective smiled before bidding them a good morning as well.
"Joe told me that you were coming in. It is nice to formally meet you Sarah," Anna said as she shook the Head of Forensics' hand.
"And you. Appreciate you stepping in while I was out," Sarah smiled.
"Well, I may be here a little while longer. Fischel's goose was cooked but Richard is not budging. Makes me wonder what he has up his sleeve," Anna shook her head.
"Hopefully he's just being stupid," Charlie shook his head as Rex got pets from Anna.
"With any luck," she chuckled before lowering her voice and saying, "so that's a pretty fancy ring to be wearing to work." Sarah blushed before responding,
"I'm stuck at a desk for the next couple of weeks. After that it'll have to go away for safe keeping."
"Yeah, no leaving at a crime scene, unless Rex is going to be keeping an eye on it," Anna smirked before congratulating the two of them. That's when Jesse walked into the unit with Joe.
"There you two are. How are you doing?" Joe asked.
"Much better. Thank you," Sarah smiled.
"Excellent. We have a desk for you and your new badge and weapon are in my office," her boss smiled. Jesse had conspicuously been quiet.
"I think we may need to pick Jesse's jaw off the floor," Charlie chuckled. Joe cocked an eyebrow as he looked at the younger detective before following his gaze. It was hard to miss what Sarah was wearing and Joe looked at his two detectives.
"Congrats you guys!" That made Jesse snap out of it.
"We have to throw a party!" Jesse said.
"We can throw a party when I'm back to full duty. My parents left ten days ago, and we just called them about it last night. Charlie still needs to tell his dad and his brother," Sarah just didn't want him running off and telling everyone in the SJPD first.
"Yeah, my dad is in a different time zone. I hate to say it over an e-mail, but I sent the message and haven't gotten a response. I have to call Jack around lunchtime. He's in Vancouver for a couple of fights," Charlie said.
"Well, a big party in a few weeks it is!" Joe smiled before hugging Sarah and shaking Charlie's hand. Jesse did the same and everyone could tell that he was bursting with questions that he wanted to ask. Joe's phone ringing ended the thought of that for now though. He quickly took the call.
"Well, we've got a body," Joe heaved a sigh before saying, "Charlie, Anna, take Rex. I'll text you the address." Charlie gave Sarah a wink before calling to Rex. Some things hadn't changed while they were away. Still the future was bright and there was so much to look forward to.
