It was a nice afternoon and Gwen and Clarence make a stop at Chef Saltbaker's bakery. He offers them a platter of cake samples for their wedding cake which he promised will be on the house. Cuphead and Mugman once again sample Chef Saltbaker's goods.
"I think we should go with…" Gwen was about to say until Clarence interrupted.
"Red velvet?" Clarence guessed.
"Well, that or the vanilla with the raspberry filling?" Gwen nervously asked.
"They both are delicious." Clarence said.
"Gwen, whatever you pick is gonna be delicious." Mugman said.
"UGH! This is harder than I thought! So many choices!" Gwen said frustratingly.
"Here she goes again." Cuphead said under his breath.
"I heard that!" Gwen scolded.
"Gwen, calm down." Clarence said.
Gwen took a few breaths.
"Honey, we still have time to decide what cake we'll have for the wedding." Clarence assured her.
"Which we're running out. The wedding is around the corner. And the Devil's attacks are growing more frequent…" Gwen said, stressing over the situation.
Chef Saltbaker placed his hand on Gwen's shoulder.
"Kid, take a deep breath and calm down." Chef Saltbaker said.
Gwen complies and calms down.
"May I make a suggestion? Why don't you do both of those flavors you two like. It's common to have more than one wedding cake flavor at weddings." Chef Saltbaker suggested.
Gwen looked at Chef Saltbaker.
"Really?" Gwen asked.
"I'll tell you what. I'll make you a grand wedding cake with both those flavors." Chef Saltbaker offered.
"Really? You would do that?" Gwen asked.
"For you kid, anything." Chef Saltbaker said.
Gwen smiled and hugged Chef Saltbaker.
"Thank you." Gwen thanked.
Clarence smiled at Chef Saltbaker calming his fiancée. Chef Saltbaker noticed the cups finished the sample plater and were eyeing the rest of his sweets. Before the cups could even open the display case, Chef Saltbaker cleared his throat, getting their attention.
"Don't even think about it!" Chef Saltbaker warned.
Both cups smiled nervously and slowly backed away from the display case. Gwen shook her head.
"Thank you, Chef. We'll be heading out." Clarence said as he took Gwen's hand.
They all leave the bakery and teleport back to the cottage. Clarence returned to his apartment and Gwen went inside the cottage, upstairs to her room. The cups went to their room to play. She laid in her bed, feeling exhausted from everything that's happened.
Her butterfly fluttered in her face.
"Not now little buddy. I'm not in the mood." Gwen groaned.
But the butterfly kept fluttering in her face, making Gwen lose her patience.
"Fine, what is it?" Gwen asked.
The butterfly flew and picked up one of her travel magazines and showed the cover which had a picture of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
"Paris? How is that gonna help?" Gwen asked.
Gwen thought for a moment and realized what her butterfly was saying.
"Wait. Are you saying I should… go there?" Gwen asked.
The butterfly nodded.
"But, why? I've traveled to many places. New York, Syria, Israel, California, Ireland, Russia and Australia to name a few." Gwen asked, recalling her recent travels.
The butterfly opened the magazine and showed her the page with French pastries.
"What about those pastries? I love Chef Saltbaker's goods. Besides he's doing our wedding cake for free." Gwen pointed out.
Gwen thought about it more and decided to travel to get her mind off everything. Gwen grabs her satchel then lifts her ink pen. Knowing her friends will stowaway with her, she started the countdown.
"Three… two… one." Gwen counted.
Then she tapped her ink pen when not to her surprise, the three cups jump on her shoulders.
"SURPRISE!" All three cups called.
They appear in the city of Paris, France.
"Okay, why did you wanna come here this time?" Cuphead asked suspiciously.
"Cuphead, I'm just trying to clear my mind off everything. The cake, the wedding, school, the Devil. You know." Gwen answered.
"Well, you can clear your mind with us. So, where are we?" Mugman asked.
"Guys, this is the country, France. We're in the capital city Paris." Gwen answered.
"Paris, huh? What do these humans like to do here?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"There's lots of things to do. A very popular thing to do is going shopping at the Champ-Elysée's. We've already seen the Louvre and all the world-famous paintings. Oh, we can go to the cathedral Notre Dame and go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower." Gwen answered.
"YAY!" All three cups cheered.
"And best of all, we can go sample their famous French Pastries." Gwen finished.
"Yum!" All three cups said.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Cuphead said excitedly.
The group start their sight-seeing by heading down the Champ-Elysées where Gwen buys herself a beautiful new dress. The cups get some French souvenirs like miniature Eiffel Towers, French chocolate, French cheese, and wearing new beret hats.
Gwen buys herself lavender perfume and soap.
Afterwards, the group take a tour around the Notre Dame church, admiring the beauty of the stain glass windows and the statues of biblical people. Finally, they take the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower where they get the best view of Paris.
"Nice view up here." Mugman complimented.
"Yeah. It's even better when we do this together." Gwen said.
"The human world is amazing. I want to see it all with you." Ms. Chalice said.
"Okay, the view's nice, but can we go try those pastries now? I'm starvin'." Cuphead asked.
"Sure buddy. Chef Saltbaker caught you guys again." Gwen said.
"Aw come on, he has the best sweets!" Cuphead argued.
"I know, but I think it's good for you guys to try pastries from France. Just to get you guys from eating all his sweets." Gwen said.
"Well, I guess we could try." Cuphead agreed.
"That's the spirit buddy." Gwen complimented.
The group travel back down the elevator and go into town to find a bakery.
Gwen was unsure where until she decided to ask someone. She tapped a gentleman's shoulder, getting his attention.
"Excusez-moi, où est la boulangerie la plus proche?" Gwen asked in French.
"Il y a une boulangerie juste en haut de cette route." The gentleman pointed in the direction.
"Merci, monsieur." Gwen thanked.
"Vous êtes les bienvenus mademoiselle." The gentleman answered and walked away.
"Wow, I didn't know you spoke French." Ms. Chalice said.
"I learned a little in high school. It was required for us to take a language class." Gwen said.
The group traveled up the road until they reach a bakery called Stohrer.
"OOH!" All three cups exclaimed as the approach the window, eyeing the pastries displayed.
Gwen shook her head, knowing they were excited to try the bakery's sweets.
They go inside where several customers were purchasing pastries.
"Okay, you can each pick a pastry you wanna try and we'll sample them together. Okay?" Gwen asked.
"Oui! Oui!" Both cups agreed in French.
"Now you're getting it." Gwen complimented.
They look at the pasties displayed in the display case. Gwen picks a raspberry tart, Cuphead picks a slice of black forest cake, Mugman picks a rum baba with Chantilly cream and Ms. Chalice picks the crème brûlé.
Gwen purchases the pastries and leave the bakery with their sweets. They find a table outside to sit and Gwen sets up their plates and cut up each of the four sweets and placed them on the four plates.
"Alright, dig in." Gwen said.
"Yay!" All three cups cheered.
They start eating the sweets and they are amazed with the taste.
"Wow, these are amazing!" Cuphead complimented.
"Yeah! We'll have to come back here!" Mugman added.
"Mmm! Very sweet and tasty!" Ms. Chalice said.
"I knew you'd love coming here." Gwen said as she continued eating.
They ate until they finished all the sweets then leave the bakery.
In Paris, Gwen and the cups continue exploring. Cuphead notices a building shaped like a windmill called Moulin Rouge.
"Ooh, what's this place?" Cuphead asked as he was preparing to enter the building.
Gwen looked and her eyes popped, realizing what the Moulin Rouge really is. She quickly grabbed Cuphead's handle and pulled him away.
"No!" Gwen exclaimed.
"Why not?" Cuphead asked.
"That place is not for kids!" Gwen answered.
"Why not? What's in there?" Mugman asked.
Gwen hesitated to answer.
"Uh, it's a place where adult men go to watch girls dance." Gwen nervously answered.
"Oh yeah? How good are these gals?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Chalice, don't even think about…!" Gwen was about to say until she realized too late her friends already entered the Moulin Rouge.
Gwen sighed then followed her friends inside.
"Okay, maybe just one performance." Gwen reluctantly agrees.
"Now you're talkin'!" Cuphead praised Gwen.
"Ooh, there's a table!" Mugman pointed.
The cups lead Gwen to the table and look at the stage with the red curtain. Just then, the lights go dim and a spotlight was shown up at the ceiling above the stage. A beautiful woman dressed in a sparkling dance outfit on a swing is slowly being lowered as the cabaret show starts.
She started singing in French as all the men in the club stared at her as jazz music started playing. Gwen wasn't impressed with the girl's acting sultry to the men as they all cheered her on. A group of women come on stage and started dancing kicking their legs up as the woman continued singing.
"Heh. They call that dancing?" Ms. Chalice asked, unimpressed.
"It's called the cancan. They dance by kicking and exposing their legs. And don't get any ideas Chalice. You're not joining them on stage this time like you did with the Cossacks." Gwen answered.
"Okay, okay." Ms. Chalice reluctantly agrees.
They continued watching until the musical number was over. The dancers took their bows as the audience cheered thunderously. Gwen and the cups clap as the dancers started dancing their way into the audience and flirt with some of the men.
"I'm beginning to see why you didn't wanna come here." Ms. Chalice said, feeling uneasy.
"Yeah. We should go before something happens." Gwen said as she got up from the table.
Gwen gathered the cups and started their way towards the exit and leave.
Just then, a young dancer was flirting with some men when she was pulled aside from the manager.
"Oui, mousier?" The dancer asked.
"Look, I know it was you who sold the mafia out to the cops. Unfortunately, I can no longer keep you here for you pose as a risk to my club and everyone here. I'm sorry, but you're fired." The manager announced.
"B-b-but I need money! I need a home! Where am I supposed to go?!" The dancer begged with tears rolling down her face.
"That is not my problem. Here's all your belongings. Now, get out!" The manager rudely said as he tossed her a bag with her belongings.
The dancer grabbed her bag and started to leave for the exit. Suddenly, an older man and some mobsters surround her.
"No! Why are you here?!" The dancer asked fearfully.
"You ratted us out! Now, you will pay!" The older man threatened.
The mobsters grab their guns when she makes a dash for the exit. The patrons and dancers screamed and ran at the sight of the guns. The dancer runs away from the Moulin Rouge and runs down an alleyway, when she unexpectedly bumped into Gwen who was about to teleport.
"OOF!" Both girls exclaimed.
"Hey! Watch it!" Gwen scolded.
The dancer gasped in shock at the sight of the cups. Just then, they hear the mobsters coming and she hides behind Gwen.
"What's going on? Who are they?" Gwen asked.
"La mafia!" The dancer answered.
"Huh?" The three cups asked.
"She means the French mafia." Gwen answered.
"Oh." All three cups said.
Suddenly, the cup's eyes popped and hid behind Gwen.
Gwen gripped her ink pen tight, preparing for a fight.
"You there! American!" The older man called.
"Look, would you mind taking your dirty business elsewhere? I'm very busy." Gwen asked impatiently.
"Step aside away from that rat and nobody gets hurt!" The older man warned.
"But what has she done?" Gwen asked suspiciously.
"She ratted us out to the police, most of our men are now in prison and now she must die!" The older man answered.
Gwen's eyes widened, realizing they want revenge on her. Having a plan, her inkwell started glowing.
"Yeah, I won't be doing that." Gwen answered bravely.
The mobsters aim their guns at Gwen.
"Gwen! What are you doing?!" Cuphead fearfully whispered.
"You're gonna get us killed!" Mugman whispered.
"Trust me!" Gwen whispered back.
"I'll give you one last chance to step aside!" The older man threatened.
Gwen stood her ground, saying nothing.
The gentleman cocked his gun, aimed at Gwen's head. Just then a series of gunshots were fired.
After the smoke cleared, Gwen and her friends are still standing in one piece alive and unharmed.
"What just happened?" Ms. Chalice asked.
The cups and the dancer notice Gwen's hair turned into her rainbow celestial form and her eyes glowed gold. The thugs gasped in horror. The dancer also gasped in shock.
"Sacré bleu!" The older gentleman exclaimed.
"She is bewitched!" A thug exclaimed.
Gwen bravely approached the mobsters terrified of her.
"S-s-stay back! I will kill you!" The older gentleman fearfully exclaimed.
"Oh really? You and what army?" Gwen asked.
Just then, he noticed his men all ran away for their lives. The dancer smiled, realizing her life is saved. The older gentleman screamed and ran away. Not before Gwen magically erased the mafia's memories of her celestial powers and the magic inkwell, leaving them confused and leave.
Back in the alleyway, the cups sighed of relief.
"Nice one Gwen!" Cuphead complimented.
"You taught those jerks a lesson!" Mugman added.
"Thanks guys." Gwen said as she transformed back to her normal self.
"Uh, what are we gonna do with her?" Ms. Chalice asked, pointing at the dancer.
"Oh. Right." Gwen said remembering.
After thinking, Gwen decided to spare her.
"Look I know we just met but forget you saw my face. Forget you saw everything. Oublier. Au revoir." Gwen instructed.
"Let's go." Gwen said to the cups.
Gwen gestured the cups to follow her. They leave the dancer behind.
"Wait!" She called.
Gwen and the cups turned around and noticed her approaching them.
"You saved my life. Merci." The dancer thanked.
"Vous êtes les bienvenus." Gwen answered back.
"What is your name?" The dancer asked.
"Gwendolyn Mae Emmons. Call me Gwen." Gwen introduced herself.
"I am Lisette Beaufort. Cabaret dancer of Moulin Rouge. Or at least, I used to be." Lisette introduced herself.
"These are my friends Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice." Gwen introduced the cups.
"Hi." Cuphead said.
"Bonjour." Mugman said.
"How's it goin'?" Ms. Chalice asked.
Lisette sighed sadly.
"Not very good. They found out it was me who snitched on them to the police. I had to do the right thing. And now, my boss fired me because I am a risk to them." Lisette explained.
"So, now they're after you and won't stop until you're dead." Gwen said, figuring it out.
"Oui. Which is why I want to ask where do you live?" Lisette asked.
"Why?" Gwen asked suspiciously.
"Would it be alright if I stick with you? I can't go back to the Moulin Rouge. They will look for me there. I have no job, no home and no money." Lisette asked and explained.
"Don't you have any family or friends you could stay with until you figure things out?" Gwen asked.
"Non. I have no family, no friends. I have nowhere to go or hide from them." Lisette explained as she had tears in her eyes.
Gwen feels bad for Lisette, but she was hesitant to bring her back to the Inkwell Isles with her since she's already brought four other humans to live there.
"Please Gwen, will you take me home with you wherever you live?" Lisette begged.
"Oh boy." Gwen groaned as she facepalmed.
"Well, maybe we could take her back and find her somewhere to stay?" Cuphead suggested.
"I think there's an empty apartment at my place." Ms. Chalice said.
"There's an idea. Maybe we could put her there." Mugman said.
"Hmm, maybe you're right. If we put her in the empty apartment, she'd be safe there." Gwen said after thinking about it.
"Really? Where is your apartment?" Lisette asked.
"Hey! Those bullies are back!" Mugman exclaimed.
The group looked and realized more mobsters were coming their way.
"Sacré bleu! There's more of them!" Lisette exclaimed fearfully.
"Oh no, they're angry." Gwen said worryingly.
Lisette held Gwen's shoulders.
"Please Gwen, take me with you. I'll do anything." Lisette begged with tears in her eyes.
Gwen sighed, knowing she had her hands tied.
"Alright, but only you promise to do exactly as I say." Gwen explained her condition.
"Oui, I promise." Lisette promised.
The cups hugged Gwen as she prepared to teleport.
"Just do me a favor and don't freak out." Gwen instructed.
"Why?" Lisette asked.
"You'll see." Gwen answered.
Gwen quickly tapped her ink pen and teleported away before the mobsters could surround them. To their shock, they were gone.
"Where did they go?" One thug asked.
"Search everywhere! They couldn't have gone far!" The older gentleman yelled.
Meanwhile, the group appear in Inkwell City in an alleyway. Lisette still had her eyes closed and was still holding Gwen tightly.
"Uh, Lisette?" Gwen asked.
"Oui?" Lisette asked.
"You can open your eyes now." Gwen answered.
Lisette slowly opened her eyes and realized everything around her looked very different. Lisette gasped, realizing everything around her was cartoon. She even looked at herself and realized she was also a cartoon.
Lisette was about to panic until Gwen grabbed her shoulders.
"I said don't freak out!" Gwen reminded her.
Lisette tried to get a hold of herself, trying not to freak out.
"W-w-where am I?" Lisette nervously asked.
Gwen sighed, knowing it was coming.
"Lisette, welcome to the Inkwell Isles." Gwen introduced.
Lisette looked around, noticing the city around them.
"I-I-I-Inkwell Isles?" Lisette asked confused.
"We're in the capital city Inkwell City." Gwen added.
Lisette walked out of the alley and her eyes widened and her jaw dropped at the sight of the city. Then she noticed the residents were all anthropomorphic objects, food, plant and animals. Lisette was about to freak out again until Gwen and the cups quickly covered her mouth and pull her back in the alley.
"What are you doing?" Cuphead asked.
"Gweny said not to freak out!" Mugman added.
"Guys, let me handle this." Gwen said.
She looked at a frightened Lisette.
"Lisette, listen to me. We're no longer the human world, we're in a whole new world far different from our own. Everybody here is not human, there's only five of us. I know it's scary and too much to take in. It happened to me too when I was first brought here 2 years ago. But we gotta keep our heads and calm down. Okay?" Gwen explained and asked.
Lisette nodded.
"Now, we're gonna let you go. And when we do, you're gonna calm down and we're gonna show you around Inkwell City and take you to where you can stay for a while until you get things sorted out. Understand?" Gwen instructed and asked.
Lisette nodded.
"Okay." Gwen said.
Gwen and the cups release Lisette as she caught her breath.
"Good. There ya go." Ms. Chalice complimented.
Gwen takes Lisette's hand and leads her out of the alley and into the city. They show her around the city. They notice Ice Cream Man's ice cream truck down the road and decide to get some ice cream.
"Hey Ice Cream Man." Gwen greeted.
"Hey there kid! Would you like to hear the flavor of the day?" Ice Cream Man asked with a big grin.
"What is it?" Gwen asked, knowing he always asked the same thing every time.
"Today's flavor of the day is…" Ice Cream Man said as a drumroll played.
"French Vanilla!" Ice Cream Man announced as a fanfare played and confetti was thrown.
"That's it?" Mugman asked disappointedly.
"That flavor doesn't get enough attention. So, I decided to give it the spotlight today." Ice Cream Man explained.
Lisette quietly gasped at the anthropomorphic muffin.
"I'll get cookie dough." Gwen said.
"Chocolate." Ms. Chalice said.
"Strawberry." Cuphead said.
"Butterscotch." Mugman said.
"Alrighty then. And you missy?" Ice Cream Man asked Lisette.
"Oh. Um, French Vanilla." Lisette answered.
"You're new here, aren't you?" Ice Cream Man asked.
"Oui." Lisette answered in French.
"Ah, you're from the human world, like your friend here used to be." Ice Cream Man said, figuring it out.
"You can read us like a book." Gwen complimented.
"You don't fool me kid." Ice Cream Man said as he was scooping their ice cream cones.
"Here you all are!" Ice Cream Man announced as he handed the ice cream cone to the group.
Gwen pays Ice Cream Man, and they all walk away, continuing showing Lisette the sights of Inkwell City.
They show Lisette all their favorite places until they finally reached the radio show and apartment building where Clarence, Cordelia and Ms. Chalice live.
"Okay, here we are." Gwen announced.
Lisette looked at the building confused.
"This place is where your fiancé, his sister and the little Chalice live?" Lisette asked.
"Yep. You know it!" Ms. Chalice said as she tapped danced.
The group head inside and Gwen takes Lisette to the floor where Clarence and Cordelia's apartments were. Gwen unlocks a door to an empty apartment and opens it and leads the group inside.
"Well, this is it." Gwen said.
Lisette looked around at the apartment, noticing it was different from her home in France.
"Wow, it's different here." Lisette said.
"Yeah, I know it's different from France." Gwen said.
"But I don't mean as an insult. It's very nice." Lisette said, being polite.
"I knew what you meant." Gwen assured her.
"So, it is okay if I stay here?" Lisette asked.
"Yeah, until you figure things out. The bedroom's in there with clothes, the bathroom's over there, the kitchen's over there, couch is over there with a radio." Gwen said as she showed Lisette around.
"Alright. What if I need you, how will I contact you?" Lisette asked.
Gwen reaches in her pocket and hands her a business card.
"This is my number. Give me a call if you need anything." Gwen said.
Lisette looks at the card with Gwen's name on it with the phone number of her magical telephone she can call at any time.
"Merci. I don't know how to thank you for all of this Gwen." Lisette thanked.
"I'll think of something. I'm gonna take off with my friends, so I'll see you later." Gwen said as she leaves the apartment.
Lisette was all alone now. She sat herself in a recliner and relaxed herself. She goes into the bedroom and notices in the closet some new dresses. First, she takes a shower for 15 minutes. A few minutes later, she is out of her cabaret outfit and in a casual dress and shoes with her hair in a ponytail. She looked out the apartment window.
"Maybe I should explore this new world. It may be better than Earth." Lisette said to herself.
Lisette left the apartment building and explored around Inkwell City. She let go of her fear and started to get fascinated with everything around her.
Just then, Gwen and Clarence joined her.
"Lisette, what are you doing?" Gwen asked.
"I'm just looking around. If I'm going to stay here, I want to get to know my surroundings." Lisette answered.
"Gwen, who's this?" Clarence asked.
"Clarence, this is Lisette Beaufort. Lisette, this is Clarence Hopewell my fiancé." Gwen introduced.
"Bonjour." Lisette greeted and shook hands.
"Oh, you're from France." Clarence guessed.
"Oui, monsieur." Lisette answered.
"Anyway, I wanted to introduce you to my fiancé before we go to our next theatre lessons." Gwen offered.
That caught Lisette's attention.
"Theatre lessons?" Lisette asked.
"Yeah, we take weekly theatre lessons at the community theater." Gwen explained.
"Can I come with you? I love the theater." Lisette asked.
Gwen and Clarence both looked at each other then decided to take Lisette with them since she showed some interest in theater.
They head inside the community theater and take their seats in the audience. Just then, the theatre teacher Sally Stageplay came in to lead the class.
"Good afternoon class!" Sally greeted.
"Good afternoon Mrs. Stageplay." Everyone greeted.
"Today, we're going to learn chorus line dancing." Sally announced.
Some of the students gasped and some murmured quietly.
"Chorus line dancing?" Gwen quietly asked.
"So, everyone grab a hat and hop up on the stage!" Sally ordered.
Everybody got up, grabbed a hat and went up on the stage including Lisette.
"Now everyone, put your left leg in front of you and your left hand on your hip." Sally instructed.
The class followed including Lisette.
"Then put your hat slightly over your right eye." Sally continued.
Everyone copied Sally.
"Now take two steps with left and right. Now, we're gonna step out with the left and point three times like this." Sally said then demonstrated with her left foot.
Everybody copied her movements.
"Now, from the top!" Sally called out.
Everybody started from start position then repeated the first three steps.
"Good job everyone!" Sally complimented.
Just then, someone clapped slowly. Everyone turned around and saw the Devil clapping with a smug look on his face.
"Oh yes, good job… amateurs." The Devil taunted.
"You dare mock my teaching?! I don't suppose you can do it better!" Sally yelled.
"Oh, I know I can. Watch this." The Devil said then he disappeared.
Suddenly he reappeared in a cabaret-style outfit with a top hat on his head. A drumroll was heard along with jazz music playing when suddenly, the Devil tapped his pitchfork, and his imps stated dancing cabaret-style. A platform was raised to everyone's astonishment.
"Oh brother." Gwen muttered under her breath as Clarence scoffed.
The Devil made the signature chorus line hat move and threw it at Sally. He finished off by sliding down the platform, making a finishing pose, wowing the students. Everyone applauded except the humans.
Just then, Lisette was laughing at the Devil's dance, grabbing his attention. He angrily turned to the students.
"WHO DARES LAUGH AT ME?!" The Devil roared furiously.
Lisette quickly stopped laughing as Gwen and Clarence stepped in front of her to protect their new friend.
"SHH! Hide!" Gwen shushed and instructed.
Lisette quietly snuck off and hid backstage and peeked from behind the curtain.
"Who was it?!" The Devil yelled.
The Devil rudely shoved other students aside, looking for the culprit. The Devil looked and saw Gwen snickering.
"Oh, Gwen. Why am I not surprised?" The Devil asked sarcastically.
Gwen giggled, then gestured Clarence to laugh with her. He forced a laugh along with Gwen. The Devil grew suspicious.
"Wait… that wasn't you laughing." The Devil said suspiciously.
"What do you mean? I've always laughed at you and always will." Gwen insulted.
"The laughing sounded… higher and… Frenchy." The Devil said.
Gwen tried to be brave.
"Brought a new friend you wanna introduce me to?" The Devil asked, figuring it out.
Gwen stood her ground along with Clarence.
"Fine. Then I'll introduce myself." The Devil said.
The Devil tapped his pitchfork and disappeared. He appeared behind Lisette and snatched her, making her scream. He reappeared in front of Gwen with Lisette in his clutches.
"Well, well, well. Another beautiful dancing human like the one in Russia?" The Devil asked, referring to Tatiana.
Lisette gasped in horror.
"Sacré bleu! Le Diable!" Lisette exclaimed in French.
"Ah, you're French… mademoiselle." The Devil said, figuring out her culture.
"Don't you dare harm her!" Gwen yelled as she pointed her ink pen.
"Uh, uh, uh Gwen! You know the drill." The Devil scolded as Henchman entered the stage with a file.
The Devil released Lisette as she quickly hid behind Gwen and Clarence.
"Duh, here boss." Henchman said as he handed the file to his boss.
"Thank you, Henchman. Now, let's see what your file says about you… Madame Beaufort." The Devil said as he opened the file.
"Ooh! What's this? Orphaned at a young age, grew up in an orphanage, trained to be a cabaret dancer at the Moulin Rouge, flirted with a few men and now you're on the run from the French Mafia who you snitched on to the police." The Devil read, revealing Lisette's past.
Lisette's eyes widened as she gasped softly.
"Quite a tragic story you have. But oh well… C'est la vie Lisette." The Devil mocked.
"Stop it!" Gwen yelled as she prepared to attack.
"You will not interfere this time, Gwen!" The Devil scolded as he magically restrained her.
The Devil refocused his attention on Lisette, grabbed her arm and pulled her up to him.
"So, you find my dancing funny, do you? Why do you think it's funny?" The Devil asked.
"I… uh…" Lisette struggled to answer.
"Go on… spit it out." The Devil said, losing patience.
"I-I-I-I I've seen better cabaret dancing!" Lisette finally admitted.
The students gasped at her remark. The Devil's eyes widened.
"Is that so? You think you're a better dancer because you were with the Moulin Rouge dancing girls?" The Devil asked.
"I was one of their favorites." Lisette answered.
Everyone gasped.
"Oh." Clarence said shockingly, making Gwen elbow him.
"Ow!"
"You were, were you? If you're the best at this type of dancing, why don't you teach it?" The Devil asked.
The Devil tapped his pitchfork, transforming the set into a Moulin Rouge style stage with stairs and a dance pole. Then, he transformed Lisette's outfit back into her cabaret outfit as a spotlight shone on her.
"Alright then Lisette, you take the stage. Wow us." The Devil said as he gestured her to get to the center stage.
Lisette took a deep breath, then she walked to the center stage and grabbed her dress, ready to start. The Devil started the jazz music. Lisette started moving her skirt, revealing her legs as she started dancing. The students watched in awe as Lisette started kicking her legs.
Lisette approached the Devil, giving him a flirty look until she pushed his hat over his head, making the other students laugh.
Lisette kept dancing with her legs up as she lifted her skirt, did a cartwheel then delivered a split move. For the grand finale, she ran up to the dance pole, jumped up and spun down to the floor with a final pose with her leg kicked up.
Everyone cheered for Lisette as the Devil's eyes widened and jaw dropped. Lisette stood up and took her bow.
"Merci. Merci everyone." Lisette thanked everyone.
Sally Stageplay approached Lisette in fascination.
"That… was… PERFECT!" Sally praised Lisette.
"Merci madame." Lisette thanked.
The Devil grumbled angrily at her victory as Gwen approached him.
"Now that she's rubbing salt into your wound, I think it's time for you to go." Gwen taunted.
"This isn't over Gwen." The Devil warned.
Clarence tapped the Devil's shoulder.
"What?!" The Devil asked impatiently.
"Au revoir." Clarence said, then…
BAM!
Clarence delivered an unexpected punch in the Devil's face, knocking him to the floor. Everybody laughed as Henchman dragged an unconscious Devil back into the elevator and left the theater.
"Nice one dear." Gwen complimented.
"Thanks love. I've been working on it since he kidnapped and threatened me." Clarence bragged.
Sally approached Lisette.
"Lisette is your name?" Sally asked.
"Oui madame." Lisette answered.
"That dancing was impressive. How would you like to teach that dancing to the class?" Sally offered.
"I'd love to ma'am." Lisette said, taking her offer.
Class resumes with Lisette teaching this time.
Later class was over, and everybody leaves. Gwen and Clarence were about to leave with Lisette until Sally stops them.
"Gwen, may I borrow Lisette for a moment?" Sally asked.
"Uh, sure ma'am." Gwen agreed.
Sally takes Lisette back inside the theater.
"That was impressive dancing you just displayed." Sally complimented.
"Merci madame." Lisette thanked.
"You know, I've been meaning to hire an assistant to help me out with running the theater." Sally said.
"Wait, are you offering me a job madame?" Lisette asked.
"Only if you're interested." Sally answered.
Lisette thought for a moment.
"I accept madame. Thank you." Lisette eagerly accepted her offer.
"Alright then, here's your contract. Just sign it and you can start tomorrow at 8 AM sharp." Sally instructed as she handed Lisette a contract and a pen.
Lisette read the contract, signed her name at the bottom and handed it back to Sally.
"Wonderful! You're hired!" Sally exclaimed.
"Thank you madame." Lisette thanked and both shook hands.
"I'll see you first thing in the morning. Don't be late." Sally said as she leaves the theater.
"I won't madame. I promise." Lisette promised.
Lisette excitedly rejoins Gwen and Clarence.
"Wow, Sally's given you a job?" Clarence asked.
"Oui. I start in the morning." Lisette answered.
"That's wonderful. So does that mean you wanna stay in the Inkwell Isles?" Gwen asked.
"Oui. I'm staying. I'm starting to like this place." Lisette answered.
"Well in that case, let's get you settled into the apartment." Gwen said.
Gwen and Clarence take Lisette back to his apartment, Gwen magically gave Lisette the essentials for her new home.
Gwen leaves with Clarence to go on a date while Lisette settled into her new home.
The next morning, Lisette gets ready for work and walks back to the theater to start working for Sally at the community theater while Gwen went to Inkwell Isles University for school, feeling proud of paying it forward for people in need of help.
