Xander owed Buffy big time! He asks her if she could ask Spike to train the S.I.T's on Valentine's Day to give him time to set up his surprise. They've been together for only six months but Xander had been looking forward to this day. He would finally have a Valentine's Day that didn't have backwards magic spells or a girlfriend who only cared about how much he spend on her presents. But this year would be different.

While the apartment wasn't a disaster it was still in need of a cleaning. Xander washed the bathroom a job neither of them liked and did up the laundry. He was also making Spike his favourite bar foods from scratch. Onion blossoms, buffalo wings and fish and chips. Spike always said that he missed the onion blossoms from the Bronze. Sure he had them from other places but none of them tasted the same. What no one knew was that Xander worked at the Bronze for a short stint where he learned how to make them.

Xander worked his butt off to get everything finished before Spike got home. Buffy gave him a quick call to let him know Spike was headed home and good luck on his plans.

The call was five hours ago. Three hours and there was no Spike. Xander didn't understand. Spike always came straight home after training to vent about with S.I.T drove him crazy that day. It was never the same one twice in a row. The food was now cold and Xander didn't bother to pack it up and put it in the fridge. Instead Xander took the cake he had ordered from a local bakery with icing saying 'Happy first Valentine's Day', a fork and sat down on the couch and proceeded to eat it alone while watching the movie Valentine. The male lead looked an awful lot like Angel.

By the time Spike came home it wasn't Valentine's Day anymore and Xander was slumped over on the couch with the fork in hand and icing around his mouth. What was left of the cake was on the coffee table. He noticed the writing on the cake. All he could make out was 'ine's Day'. What the hell was this?

Spike picked up the remains of the cake to take it to the kitchen when he saw more food on the dining table. Upon closer inspection he noticed all his favourite pub foods. What was going on? Were those... onion blossoms? Why did Xander make all of his favourite foods? He never did this. So why today... or yesterday.

"Look what the cat dragged in," a sleepy voice said from behind Spike.

Spike turned around a confused look on his face. "What's all this?"

Xander looked at Spike as if he grew a second head. "What do you think?"

"I don't have a bloody clue."

"You seriously don't know what yesterday was?" Xander had a doubtful look on his face. Spike had a clueless look on his face. "Oh my God, you don't. It was Valentine's Day."

Spike sputtered, "No, it wasn't."Xander pulled the calendar off the wall and chucked it at him. It fell on the ground at Spike's feet. Xander watched as Spike bend down to pick it up and look at it. There written on the fourteenth was 'First Valentine's Day' with a heart drawn around it. It clicked for Spike that, that was what was written on the cake. Spike couldn't believe he forgot. "Xan... luv, I'm sorry."

Xander felt like he shouldn't be as mad as he was feeling. They haven't even been together a year. It's not like when Spike was with Drusilla. They were together for over a hundred years. Of course he didn't forget. "Forget it. It was stupid."

"It's not stupid. You put a lot of work into this, didn't you?" Spike looked at the food again. Long gone from being hot and delicious.

"Where were you? You always come home after training."

Xander was right, he always came home. "Rona pissed me off something fierce. I put a whole in the cement wall. It took everything I had not to break her fucking neck. I couldn't come home feeling like that. It wouldn't have been fair to you."

Well, Xander knew what he was going to be doing when he went into work. That wasn't important right now. "It was that bad?"

"It was, pet. You know I'd rather be here with you." Spike made his way over to Xander. "I'm a bad, rude man for forgetting about Valentine's Day. I can't blame that on the bitch. I have no excuse for that. All I can say is I'm sorry. What can I do to make this up to you? I'll give you anything you want. Just name it."

"I don't want anything, Spike," Xander answered. When he saw the look of defeat on Spike's face he realized how that came out. "That's not what I meant. What I mean is that I didn't do this because I wanted something in return. I did this because I love you and I just wanted to do something to make you happy."

Spike wrapped Xander in his arms and held on tight and placed his forehead against Xander's. "Being with you makes me happy. I have never been as happy as I am when I'm with you." He saw the doubt in Xander's eye. "I'm serious, Xan. My relationships with both Drusilla and Buffy were toxic. They both brought the worst out in me and lets face it I brought out the worst in Buffy. With you though, I don't have to worry about that. If we fight we talk it out. We don't start throwing punches and then fuck after.
"We fuck after talking," Xander added.

"We fuck after talking," Spike agreed.

"You are the best thing I could have ever asked for. I will never forget another holiday," Spike promised.

"Even Earth day?" Xander asked only partially serious.

Spike kissed Xander. "Even earth day. I'll go out that night and pick up garbage until dawn if you asked me to."

If Xander got Spike to he knew Spike would make all the S.I.T's do it as well. They could pick up a lot of garbage! "I might take you up on that."

"Do you forgive me, Xan?" Spike was waiting for Xander to say no. For him make Spike work for forgiveness like Dru always did.

Xander smiled, "yeah, I forgive you, bleach head."

"Happy belated Valentine's Day, luv."

"Happy belated Valentine's Day, baby."

The End
