Chapter 6
He approached the tall gate, SandWings looking confused. More than likely curious about his horns.
"State your purpose here IceWing!" one of them shouted, pointing a spear at Snowblade.
"I'm here to see a NightWing named Moon. I have been informed that she currently resides here," Snowblade used his princely voice.
The guard pointing the spear at him signaled something to the one who remained at her post, who in turn rushed inside, supposedly to notify Queen Thorn... Or Moon... Or whatever she was doing.
"Moonwatcher is here, why do you wish to see her?" the guard asked.
"Queen Snowfall of the IceWings informed me of a prophecy, she then recommended that I visit Moon to 'help', whatever that means... I'm hoping that she'll fill me in on that..." Snowblade explained.
The guard pointed to Snowblade's horns. "What's going on with those? Some animus curse or something?"
"Birth defect, no animus magic involved."
"And those dark spots, what are they?"
"Burn marks, somebody though it'd be funny to blast me with fire... I jumped straight into the water afterwards."
They were partially true; he omitted the fact that it was lava that he'd been thrown into... And all BlizzardWings hatched with front facing horns.
After a few minutes of silence, the female guard came back and told Snowblade to enter... And that Moon was studying in the library. As if he had any clue where that was.
The ceilings were much higher than the ones back home, it was as if somebody expected dragons to fly in the halls for some strange reason. Why would anybody fly while inside a royal palace?
"Hello? Any NightWings with prophecies in here?" His voice was barely above a whisper.
A SandWing walked through the halls, having no visible admiration for the decorations that littered the halls, as if they were just some normal things that he would see every day. No doubt he was a prince.
The SandWing noticed Snowblade and gave him an inviting smile. "Hello, you must be the new visitor! My name is Smolder," he said, taking an entity off his shoulder and presenting it to Snowblade. "And this is Flower."
Snowblade blinked. Was Smolder blind? "Smolder... That thing is not a flower. I don't know what it is, but it certainly isn't a flower."
"No, her name is Flower. She's a human," Smolder tried to explain.
"I'm going to pretend that I know what you just said and continue looking for the library... Is that alright with you?" Snowblade asked.
"No, I don't mind... Other than the fact that you're going the wrong way, you passed the stairs," Smolder said.
Snowblade looked back. He had passed a staircase just a minute ago. "Could you give me directions? Please?" Snowblade asked.
Smolder began walking, gesturing for Snowblade to follow him. The two of them made their way up the stairs, took a left, another left and then a right, and they were suddenly surrounded by scrolls. There wasn't any doubt this was the library.
"Happy reading... Although I get the feeling that you aren't here to read," Smolder said.
"Here to see a NightWing... Thank you Smolder."
Smolder smiled and left Snowblade, who saw the opportunity to see topics that the Pyrrhian tribes usually discussed... Naturally, he took it.
Past queens, fiction, history, authors arguing on some philosophies, it truly was a wonder how many scrolls there were.
No. Not the time to get distracted. You came here to find Moon, so that's what you're going to do.
There was a closed door with muffled voices behind it, that must be where the NightWing was. The voices were discussing different dragons in relation to a prophecy.
Snowblade gave a small knock on the door, the voices stopped, and a SandWing opened the door. "Hello?"
"Er... I've been told to find Moon?" Snowblade said, he could see her, tilting her hea- Mind reader? Moon nodded.
"Who are you?" the SandWing asked.
"I am Snowblade of the BlizzardWings, I washed ashore to Pyrrhia nearly a week ago, Queen Snowfall recommended that I come here because of some prophecy," Snowblade said, leaving out many details that the SandWing didn't necessarily need to know.
"Are you our visit of fire and ice?" Moon asked.
"I suppose I am... Given the fact that the king and queen resorted to burn torture to make me tell them a way to kill me..."
Moon silently told the SandWing to let Snowblade pass. "After the visit of fire and ice, the Primordials will be revealed to all," Moon said, nodding to a scroll.
Snowblade saw the scroll, the foresight and mind reading abilities certainly improved as the FlareWings evolved into the NightWings.
He understood the beginning but was lost around a third of the way where it mentioned something called the heroes of the realm.
"It could be referencing Twilight here." He pointed to the spot about reuniting the dragons of white and blue.
"Twilight? As in the Twilight trapped under a mountain?" the SandWing asked.
"Who was she?" Moon asked.
"My mate... A very long time ago." Snowblade fought back a tear from forming. "Anyways, The Council... here, does kind of rely on a few things... Take them down, take The Council down..."
They did not seem interested, instead they were lingering on Twili-... How do they know about her?
"She sent us a letter... A couple weeks ago, asking us to free her from the mountain," the SandWing said.
"I'm terribly sorry, but what's your name?" Snowblade asked the SandWing.
"Qibli of the SandWings... I'm pretty much a prince here, since I'm Queen Thorn's most trusted Outclaw," Qibli said.
"You mentioned earlier that the king and queen want you dead, why not just simply kill you?" Qibli asked.
Snowblade chuckled. "Not that easy," he said, taking his talons to his head. "Please excuse the blood." He pulled his head from his neck and collapsed, his eyes closed.
Both Moon and Qibli gasped, Qibli certainly thought he was dead. "Oh, drama, a toy for me to play with," Snowblade laughed, standing back up and putting his head back in its place.
"Wha-..." Moon started a sentence but abandoned it before even finishing the first word.
"Like I said, it's not easy to kill me... Shall we continue?" Snowblade asked.
It took a while before Moon and Qibli stopped staring at him, but they did eventually get back to working on Moon's prophecy.
Snowblade wasn't of much help after the mention of the Primordials and Twilight, but fortunately he knew somebody who might be able to help, it would also help him as well.
New objective: free Twilight.
"I have a small favor to ask of you," Snowblade said to the dragons in front of him.
Author's Note: Snowblade now has a way to free Twilight! He just has to recruit some help first.
