Makoto's POV
I awake in a panic. I instinctively cover my mouth to keep from screaming. Everything is hazy, but Aigis is next to me. I can't yell, not here.
I... She. She told me... I need...
I need to leave.
Aigis's POV
The cold nighttime air awakens me from my slumber. I feel a shiver go down my spine when the reality of my current situation sets in. And I can think of nothing else except...
"Makoto?"
Where are you? It's the middle of the night. The moon's radiance and nostalgia of the room fade into nothing as my curiosity turns to concern.
He must've went to get a drink of water. Or so I'm telling myself, but I have this pressing feeling that something terrible will happen. It plagues my mind like poison.
"Makoto, where are you?"
This is ridiculous. I shouldn't be so panicked. But my legs are already out the door walking downstairs to make sure he's ok.
"Makoto?"
He's not HERE! My eyes begin to widen as my concern intensifies. I start walking back up the stairs much faster, I find myself checking every single room just trying to find him... but he's nowhere to be found.
"This isn't funny Makoto, where are you?"
I begin to hesitate as I reach the rooftop. I slowly open the door expecting to see him... he's not here either! Why would he leave without saying anything? I can feel the chilling breeze of the night, there's snow on the ground yet it's not snowing, but it'll rain soon. He's going to catch a cold! But where is he?
I start running back through the dorm checking everywhere in panic for the second time. He's just not here! But where?
My search comes to a hault as I notice a piece of paper with Makoto's handwriting on it underneath our bed. I recall him writing a speech of some kind on the way back to Iwatodai, but he refused to elaborate on what it said or what it was even about.
"He's going to be angry if I read this without his permission, but maybe this could help me find him."
I crawl under the bed and pull out the paper. As I start to read I feel an immense tightness in my chest. I start to grip the paper for dear life and start to read like a madman.
This isn't real. He didn't do what I'm thinking. He-he...
He wouldn't...
As soon as I finish I drop the paper and begin to run. I run faster than I've ever run before. There's only one place he could be. He's at Gekkokan!
"Please please let me make it in time!"
This can't be happening! This is just a bad dream!
Just a bad dream!
Bad dream.
Bad...
Why didn't you come to me? Why are you doing this? Please tell me I'm just paranoid... PLEASE TELL ME I'M WRONG!
Please don't be right.
Please don't let him be there.
Please...
...
I'm running, I'm running as fast as physically possible! My mind is blank and all I can think of is... I hear SCREAMING!
I'm almost there! Only a few meters from the school, and he's...
Fall.
The Fall...
Falling...
He's falling from the roof!
"MAKOTO!"
He sees me. Time slows down as I look at him, one foot from my face, he's upside down as I look up at him... you told me you were going to live! Makoto... I love you... please. Don't leave me...
Thud.
I was too late...
He was right in front of me... but I couldn't catch...
Makoto.
Makoto.
Makoto.
Tears fill my eyes as I hold his lifeless body...
"MAKOTOOOOOOOOO!"
(To be continued)
