Chapter 26
"Hey there Dylan," Detective Klass gave him a smile, which she was fairly sure would kill her, as she entered the interrogation room. Betty was by her side and was just giving the man her best stink eye.
"Detective," Dylan gave her a little smile from his seat at the table, which made her skin crawl.
"So, the Captain wrote up those letters you need for your boss and the halfway house. Can't have you getting in trouble for being so helpful," Klass said, handing the letters to his lawyer. The lawyer looked them over, seemed satisfied, and handed them to his client.
"I was sorry to hear about your partner," Dylan said. It took everything Klass had in her to not go flying across the table at him. He had no right to talk about Jared.
"He was a good man. He'd be glad to see you turned your life around," she said. No Jared wouldn't. He wouldn't believe this bullshit performance.
"Would he?" Dylan wondered.
"You're free to go," Klass told him before exiting the room with Betty. Out in the hallway, she was met by George, who had been watching the exchange.
"I need a shower Doc," Klass involuntarily shivered.
"Judging by his performance, so does Dylan. How'd you get along with Eliza?" He asked.
"She's at a hotel with two officers guarding her. Despite the fact that Caitlin is locked up, I don't trust that she's safe," Klass admitted as she watched Dylan and his lawyer head their way.
"Head down the hall to the bullpen," George told her. She nodded and she and Betty left as quickly as they could, making sure to not be there as Dylan and his lawyer left the interrogation room.
"Doctor Huang, nice to see you again. Consulting on this case?" The lawyer had been around the block at the sixteenth precinct before.
"I'm surprised to see you again Trevor. Meeting your pro bono quota?" George asked, ignoring the question.
"Dylan was a client of the firm back at this original trial. His first lawyer retired so I took up the case," Trevor explained.
"Ah I see. Good to see you," George smiled at him. Trevor nodded and pushed his client along. George watched them go before heading back into Captain Benson's office.
"Is TARU on the case?" George wondered.
"They're getting there now. Since Dylan will be due at work, they should be able to finish before he gets off shift. You think Klass is ready for this?" Olivia wanted to know.
"More than ready. You talk to Rollins?" He asked.
"She's more than happy to help. Bruno is going to go pick her up, while Velasco bugs the forensics team. Between the cameras, bugs, and extra detectives, Klass' apartment will be covered well. I'll bring her up to speed and take her home. Can you check on Sally and the boys? See how they're getting along?" Olivia smirked.
"On it," he chuckled before leaving her office. The Captain grabbed her phone and coat and headed out to the Detective and her loyal dog.
"TARU is at your place, setting up the hidden cameras. The landlord let them in," she let her know.
"What if Dylan doesn't show up tonight?" Klass asked.
"You're in his head now. I'd be surprised, but tomorrow is more likely, being Friday. He'll be expecting your guard to be down. The cameras will tell us if he comes by during the day. Rollins and Bruno will be with you tonight. Tomorrow, it'll be me and Elliot," Olivia told her.
"Scott says that Akiko is getting discharged on Monday. He's coming over tonight," Klass said.
"His boss has been understanding with all of this going on," Olivia said.
"Scott has a lot of vacation time that he hadn't been taking, so he took it. I am very lucky that he hasn't run for the hills yet," Klass told her as she grabbed her coat.
"He's a good man and might have missed his calling. Akiko must feel very safe with him," the Captain said they moved toward the elevator.
"I have been a bad friend during this. I need to be more present for Akiko," Klass said as they got into the elevator.
"You'll be able to tell her that we got her assailant. You'll be able to help her though the next phase if Caitlin doesn't take a plea. Plus, she has the others. They seem like a good bunch," Olivia reminded her.
"Hopefully this will all be over soon," Klass said.
