Chapter 14: A Spider and A Witch in Love
The pair came to a nice restaurant in the Main District.
Wanda: (Being escorted to their seats) You ever been to a nice restaurant like this?
Peter: (Taking a seat) No. My last date and I weren't exactly the fancy type. Plus, I didn't have the money for something like this.
Wanda: Wait, you think I'm the fancy type?
Their waiter came and took their orders. He came back shortly with their drinks.
Peter: The Daughter of Magento: One of the Mutant Representatives, Great Founder of the Mutant Island Genosha, Friend to Professor X. I bet you lived like a princess.
Wanda: (Smug tone) Okay, Wise Guy. Let's play a game: We both make assumptions about each other. Either of us get it right, they have to drink from our glasses. Guess wrong, we drink.
Peter: Fair. You go first.
Wanda took a look at Peter and thought she figured him out.
Wanda: You were raised by loving parents, no siblings, two close friends, you got your powers when your father inadvertently injected you with Spider DNA, became a hero after you stopped some muggers from hurting an elderly man, captain of the cheerleaders fell in love with you.
Peter smiled while shaking his head.
Peter: And I was getting parched.
Wanda took a drink as Peter told her the truth: How he was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, Mary Jane and Harry, the Radioactive Spider… The mistake at the arena. Wanda gasped at the mention of Uncle Ben's death.
Wanda: I'm so sorry.
Peter: I tracked down the killer and discovered it was the guy from the arena. (Wanda gasped) I was so furious; I threw him out the window. I shot a web line and saved him.
Wanda: After he killed your Uncle Ben?
Peter: My Uncle Ben taught me right from wrong. 'With Great Powers, Comes Great Responsibilities'. Killing him would've just been disgracing his memory.
Wanda sighed, letting that sink into her.
Peter: (Chuckling) But you were way off on the cheerleader part. My last date was my friend Mary Jane.
Wanda: Really?
Peter: Yeah, we thought we'd give it a try. It went well for a while but… (Shaking his head while sighing) It just started feeling weird. We knew each other since we were kids and just couldn't see it going any further.
Wanda: How'd she take it?
Peter: She felt the same way. It hurt a bit but I understood. My buddy, Harry, gave it a try but had the same result.
Wanda: Well… The thing about friendship is that it's a beautiful thing.
Peter smiled at Wanda.
Peter: My turn. Okay: Raised by Magento and your mother, she died because of a disease, was treated like a princess, annoying little brother…
Wanda burst out laughing, knowing that was Pietro on the money.
Peter: Grew up watching old Power Ranger DVDs and Sitcoms, and… Wanted to be a mother despite Daddy Dearest guarding you like Cerberus with the Gates to the Underworld.
Wanda: Let's both drink since you got half of it right.
Peter agreed and they both drank. Wanda explained that Magento thought she and her brother died during their birth with their mother, their mother raised them for a few years until she died from an accident that separated her and her brother when some people discovered she loved Magento. She ended up in a mental hospital when she used her powers to inadvertently caused a blackout at a nearby town. Magneto found a few days later.
Peter: Geez, with all that happen, I'm surprised you don't hate humans.
Wanda: Maybe I would've if one of the doctors wasn't nice to me and helped in my rescue. Dr. Marcus Carter, my friend. He believed Mutants had every right to be on God's great Earth as humans.
Peter: What happened to him?
Wanda: The hospital found out he helped in the escape and he lost his job. Daddy tracked him down and offered him a place on Genosha after he founded it.
Peter: Gotta love Professor X's influence. How'd the Mutants take it?
Wanda: Not well. But Daddy made it clear that Dr. Carter was under his protection. Old Sitcoms were nice but I soon wanted to watch heroes defeating the bad guys.
Peter: And you fell in love with Power Rangers?
Wanda: Daddy liked the idea of me learning to defend myself. My sword, Kitetsu III, is made of pure Adamantium. Cost a fortune to make. I left Genosha because I wanted to be a hero but… I do hope I can be a mother.
Peter: I think we're doing a good job looking after Sora.
Wanda smiled. Soon, their food arrived and they started eating. Wanda's mind wandered to her father and brother. Did they have any idea she was gone. Back on the Maverlous World, Pietro Maximoff, AKA Quicksilver, sped back to Magneto, dead tired.
Pietro: It's no use, dad. I sped all over the world three times and haven't found a trace of Wanda. It's like she vanished off the face of the Earth.
Magento eyed his son.
Magento: Rest, my son. Wherever your sister is… It's where God intended her to be.
Pietro left his father alone. Magento took his helmet off and stared at the night sky. Deep in his heart, he prayed for his daughter's safety. Back in Traverse Town, Peter and Wanda were walking back to the inn.
Wanda: That was a nice time. Wonder why the owner wouldn't let us congratulate the chef in person.
Peter silently remembered seeing a familiar rat and had feeling how was cooking.
Peter: I… Think it might've spoiled the evening.
Wanda kissed Peter's cheek, which made him smile. He felt like absolutely nothing could spoil his mood. The pair went into the inn to get some sleep before they head out.
