The party had been absolutely amazing, until a random female robot had shown up and thrown a guy through a window without even breaking a sweat. She had been asking every person she walked past if they knew where her boyfriend Warren was when one of the male partygoers tried to convince her to have sex with him, obviously she did not take that very well.
Even when Buffy tried to intervene and have her calm down, the woman did not care and threw the Slayer away as well. Both her physical strength and very well pronounced words made it easy for the gang to realise she was a robot. She didn't pose too much of a threat to warrant a code red, so she was dubbed a code pink for the time being.
Once the gang had made a plan to search for who this Warren guy was in the College's database, Eris, Spike and Buffy had returned to the Summers house just in time to see Giles and Julie laying on the couch looking like they had been drained of all life, "uhh, what happened to you guys?" Eris received two loud groans in response.
"I came over to speak with Julie and got roped into Dawns activities," Giles had not moved from his spot on the couch as he replied, as if his body had melted to the leather.
"There is only so much teenager I can take," Julie added in her equally melted state, "this was why I hired babysitters."
Eris narrowed her eyes at that but chose not to respond, which both Spike and Buffy noticed, "What'd she make you do?" Buffy asked in amusement as the adults slowly pulled themselves off the couch.
Giles shuffled his way to the front door and opened it, ready to leave and go home for a lovely night of sleeping, "um, well, we listened to aggressively cheerful music sung by people chosen by their ability to dance. Then we ate cookie dough and talked about boys."
The three younger adults burst into laughter as they imagined the older adults listening to backstreet boys and gossiping about Brad Pitt and John Travolta, "the laughter does not help."
Buffy calmed her laughter down a little, but the big grin remained, "oh, I'm sorry Aunt Julie. I'm very, very sorry. But if it makes you feel better our fun time party night involved watching a robot throw one of the colleges sleezeballs through a window."
Giles perked up at the mention of a robot, looking much more lively than he had a few seconds ago, "a robot? Sounds interesting."
"Best thing I'd ever seen," Eris replied as she let out a small giggle, "We're gonna work on it in the morning, unless you wanna stay for a while then we could all-"
Eris was suddenly interrupted by Joyce who glided into the room as if she was on cloud nine, "Who wants to hear everything?"
"-listen to my Aunt talk about boys."
Spike and Giles shared a glance then both said, "Right. Must go," before one went outside the door and the other kissed Eris and went upstairs.
"More for us then," Julie joked before turning to her sister, "how was it?"
Joyce sighed in bliss, the memories from her beautiful night coming back to her, "gosh, I'd forgotten how much fun dating can be."
"I don't know. I was standing right here. I didn't see Prince Charming, I didn't even see a good-night kiss. It all looked pretty tame to me."
Joyce looked at her eldest daughter with a shake of her head, knowing Buffy was joking, "I suppose, by your standard it could seem pretty…oh dear."
"What?" the three women looked at Joyce with worry, hoping nothing bad had happened.
"I left my bra in his car."
"Mother!"
"Oh Gross!"
"Right on Joyce!"
"I'm joking."
"Good God, don't do that!" Buffy whined to her mother as she crossed her arms over her chest, trying to look disapproving.
"I left it in the restaurant!"
Buffy instantly slammed her hands over her ears and ran up the stairs shouting, "no more! No more! No more!"
"On the dessert cart!"
"I can't hear you!"
"You're traumatising your eldest Joyce," Julie said before cackling like a mad woman.
"Not just Buffy, me too!" Eris whined next to her mother, "I'm kidding, that was great. Did you, you know, do the devils tango?"
"As much as that would be fun, no, I want to take things slow, make sure he's the right man."
"I mean that's fair, don't be like me and do one night stands, you'll end up dating a vampire."
"Wait that's how you met him?" Julie asked with a raised eyebrow, "I thought it would be a least a little more romantic."
"Nope, I fucked him in a storage closet at The Bronze!" Eris replied chipperly before kissing her Aunt Joyce's cheek and heading up the stairs before her mom could yell at her, "night Aunt Joyce, night mom!"
It hadn't taken long for Willow to find the Warren the robot was looking for. Apparently he had gone to Sunnydale high for a semester before transferring to a robotics school in Dutton. Luckily his parents still lived in Sunnydale and were easy to track.
Which was where Buffy and Eris found the man himself, attempting to scurry out of the house with is girlfriend before the robot could find him. After a tense exchange between Warren and his girlfriend Katrina who promptly broke up with him and left, he went on to explain that the robot was named April and he created her not to be a sex bot, but to be the perfect girlfriend.
"April! April, are you there?" Warren shouted as he walked between Eris and Buffy. After being thoroughly yelled at by Eris for literally objectifying a woman, he was dragged out to search for April before she could do some serious harm to someone, "if the batteries are still working and she hears my voice, then she'll answer."
Buffy looked at him in immense disgust, "she's voice-activated?"
"Well I made it so that if she heard me and didn't answer, it causses this kind of feedback."
"Wait, if you call her and she doesn't answer, it hurts her?"
Warren nodded which earned him a slap to the back of the head by Eris, "any more creepy things you tell us that you did to April and I'm making sure your sperm count goes to zero," she hissed hatefully.
"I-I…APRIL!" he didn't say anything more about his additions to April, he just continued to shout.
"Warren!" they all heard in response, very obviously from the robot. As they made it to the park and saw April, they realised that their worries of her hurting someone had come true. Standing before them was the sweet, innocent looking robot holding Katrina up in the air by her neck. She was unconscious and from what they could see her body had become pale, possibly from an bad injury. "Where have you been? I couldn't find you, and this girl kept lying to me and then she went to sleep."
"April what did you do?" Warren asked cautiously, but he made no move towards her. None of the humans did, they feared that if they moved closer she could do more damage to Katrina.
The robot instantly picked up on the anger that Warren was feeling and became distressed, "please don't be angry, Warren. I'm trying very hard to make you happy."
Buffy became worried that Warren would make things worse and tried to intervene herself, "April, I want you to put the girl down."
April completely ignored her, however, she only had eyes for her boyfriend, "Warren, what should I do?"
"Talk to her," Eris hissed to Warren, knowing that every second wasted was a second that could be used to help Katrina.
"Put her down!" Warren demanded as Eris ran over, "This is Eris. Give Katrina to Eris."
April instantly let her go which allowed Buffy and Eris to carry Katrina onto the park bench. Buffy placed the woman's head on her lap whilst Eris knelt beside her to start looking her over for any injuries.
"Is she broken?" April asked innocently as she walked closer to inspect what was happening. She had no knowledge of the damage she inflicted, as if she was a child who only saw the sunshine and rainbows, an equally disturbing factor when you think of the things Warren has used her for.
As Buffy checked Katrina's pulse and thankfully found a faint beating, Eris slightly pulled up her shirt to see bruising very quickly forming on the right side of her body just under her bra, "I don't know what she's done but somethings happened to her rib area. Possibly a broken rib, she needs medical attention."
Warrern agreed but knew they couldn't do anything until April was shut down. He moved away from Katrina and over to April who remained clueless to the severity of her actions, "Warren honey? What's going on? Why did you go away? Is it a game?"
"No, no. This isn't a game."
"Did I do something wrong? I waited a long time, and you never came back. A long time. I made you five sweaters."
Buffy watched on in horror as it sunk in just how naive and innocent Warren made her act, and how he selfishly left her without a second thought. "That's great. You could go back there and get them. So you could wait there-"
"-Warren," Buffy snapped, she was in no mood to have him weasel his way out of this, "you have to tell her. And do it right."
"What is she saying, Warren? What do you need to tell me?"
Warren looked between the perfect woman he created and woman he loved, he didn't want to speak but he knew Katrina's life was more important, "April, I made a mistake."
"You can't make mistakes."
"No, but I did. I thought that I made you everything that I wanted…But it wasn't what I really wanted…I'm sorry, but it's over."
"But I can be whatever you want. I love you. I'll do whatever you want. Would you like a neck rub?" April couldn't grasp what Warren was doing, it just wasn't in her programming. It would take more convincing for her to understand.
"No, see, I know that you love me, but the truth is, I can't love you. It's not your fault, but I don't love you...I love her!" Warren suddenly pointed to Buffy, once again showing his cowardly nature.
There seemed to be a change in protocol within April's control centre, and when she growled like a dog the Slayer knew she was in trouble. Within seconds the pair began to fight viciously. Buffy's strength against April's programmed knowledge of fighting.
As the fighting began, Katrina woke up but was quickly stopped by Eris, "please don't move too much, you may have a broken rib."
Katrina looked confused as she looked around, but her eyes soon settled on April who Buffy had cut open to reveal a metal body and wires, "what is…wait…that's a robot!"
"She wasn't just for sex," Warren defended before realising he just shared with Katrina that he made a sex robot.
Katrina looked up at Warren in anger and hatred, "is that…is that your ex-girlfriend?" she stood up from the chair, ignoring the pain she felt from her ribs, "no. get the hell away from me!"
"Please don't move, you need an ambulance!" Eris tried to plead with the angry woman but it was no use.
"I'll find my own damn way to the hospital!" she tried to run away but Warren was hot on her trail, trying to convince her not to leave and stay with him.
As Eris turned back to the fight, she saw that something had happened to April whilst she wasn't looking. The robot started to slow down and her limbs became useless, she couldn't move and looked scared as she called out for Warren, "What's happening to me?"
Eris came over and helped Buffy hold April before she crashed to the ground, "its ok, April, your battery is running out, lets sit you down," they both dragged her over to the swings and propped up against the chains holding the small plastic seat. They would stay with her as she powered down, not wanting her to be left alone. No one deserved that, not even a robot.
Even as every system and processor shut down, she remained faithful to the man who abandoned her. Even though she was programmed to, she truly loved him with every fibre of her being. It was sad to watch her think she was going to be taken home by Warren and that everything was going to be ok. In her last moments before shutting down she hoped for the future, knowing that everything was going to be ok as long as she had Warren.
"We should take her somewhere not out in public, she deserves to rest," Eris had come over to Buffy and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, feeling just as sad as the Slayer at how this all turned out.
"We can take her to the Magic Shop before heading home," Eris nodded and joined the Slayer in carrying April out of the park.
Once April was secured they headed home to tell Julie and Joyce that they saved the day once again, "I can't even comprehend how to make a robot like that," Eris said as she entered the house with Buffy.
"I'm not sure but I hope to never see another one again," the Slayer moved over to the beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting on the front door stand and smiled when she saw it was from her moms date, Brian, "at least there are a couple guys who are getting it right."
"I'm glad Joyce has met a nice ma-" Eris had gone to walk into the loungeroom when something made her pause. Confused by her sudden stop, Buffy walked in to see what happened.
And to her horror, on the couch laid her mother. Completely still, with her once cheerful and loving eyes now wide and unblinking. There was no rise and fall of her chest, no twitch of her fingers that lay hanging off the couch, she was completely motionless, "mom?" Buffy asked hesitantly, trying to deny what she was looking at, "mommy?"
Eris rushed in to check on her Aunt but there was no denying what both girls were seeing.
Joyce Summers…was dead….
