One Simple World
Chapter 16: Deathly Simple
Third Person Point of View:
The moments passed by so numbly for Frisk while she sat in the back of her combined mind with Chara. Chara had just about taken full control of everything. After that last battle with Mettaton, it seemed Chara was more aware of Frisk's willingness to die or let herself be killed in order to see the former dead. Frisk wished that so desperately, but Chara wasn't making it easy.
After the death of Mettaton, Chara marched on toward the city. The capital of the underground kingdom that she'd been to many times before in the past when she was a child in her previous life, and again on the occasion as she became queen. It was often that she and her children returned to the underground castle so she could show them, teach them of what happenedin history. How their father and ancestors learned to live that new way of life in order to survive.
But... the city was so different than...
The city streets were abandoned. They were still, silent... void of any life. The only time she remembered seeing the underground so barren was when we first moved to the surface. So many people were eager for the jump. So ready to leave their forced, sheltered life behind them. Only a few lights remainedback then until humans moved into the underground to see what our world had been like, and to help those that remained behind and weren't ready to move.
But... it wasn't like that then. Every house was dark. The breeze that came from the open cracks in the rocks above and that was the only sound present. Frisk watched from Chara's vision to see as she moved right up the main streets, heading straight for the castle. She knew where she needed to go to find out where the remainingresidents were hiding... and those protecting them would be.
It was only once Chara got to the base of the castle that she stopped, and Frisk came to the surface long enough to see who it was that stood before her that time. She was actually surprised to see it was Vinnie and Sampson who stood at the entrance of the castle. Both of them decked out in their respective armors as second and third in command. Vinnie stepped up before Sampson, putting himself between the two parties.
"Halt! By order of his majesty, King Asgore and King Asriel, you are ordered to halt and release Queen Frisk!"
"You must be joking..." Chara sighed, summoning a veil of knives around her along with one in each hand to grip. "Why would I stop when I'm this close? And that little girl can't stop me. And neither can you."
Vinnie said not a word as his fist came racing down onto the ground. Chara braced herself as the impact crushed the ground, the force of it racing toward her and she jumped backward. Just as she caught her footing, she was hurled backward. A screech left her as her body slammed into the wall of a nearby building before her eyes darted toward Vinnie. Seeing him standing there, he somehow had a weapon in his hands then, a giant hammer that he twirled in his hands before hitting the ground once more. The second impact was even more intense as the buildings around him crumbled, falling on top of Chara during her daring escape.
The rubble flew, and a sickening snap could be heard from the woman by Vinnie and Sampson. The hare male gave a glance back to his partner on the steps, seeing his closedeyes and his body hidden by part of the elaborate architectureof the castle stairs, before matching forward.
They had a plan. And they had to move quickly. Vinnie would handle his part and keep the monsterbusy. It was up to Sampson to help the queen.
Sampson on the other hand was deep into his ability as his soul slipped away from his body. Normally he would have had to touch his victims in the past, but with hard training and time in his old life, he'd been able to send his soul short distancesas well. He had limited range. His senses were dulled, but he could see the outline of souls. He was gunning so intently for the two bright red soulsthat he could see wrapped together in chains, even if one was trying so desperately to get away.
That was where he needed to be. To help his queen.
His soul reached out as hard as he could. He could almost feel his little hands reaching out for her while his soul lit the way. Inching closer, it almost felt as if his hand slapped her when his soul finally connected, and there floated Sampson's soul. He latched on, little veins of magic pushed into hers as he attempted to assist her with gaining control, or breaking away.
Screaming could be heard, and rather quickly did Sampson feel his soul fall. As if he'd just jumped over the ledge of a cliff. Into the rapid waters of Waterfall, Sampson felt himself be submerged before he finally found himself in the inner corners of a cave like mind. It resembled something of the ruins by Snowdin. The cave was purple in color with an underlying red hue. He stood quickly and tried to push through what felt like walking under water. The pressure was unreal. Two determined souls combined certainlyhad a strength like no other. Sampson recalled that Angel's soul felt similarly when she forced him to release her beloved in their previous life, when he was still evil...
"Your Majesty?" Sampson called out, though his voice felt like it hardly carried. "Queen Frisk? Where are you? Your royal guard is here, m'lady."
"...Sampson?"
From the corner of his eye did he see the red hue become more potent. The walls of the cave-like structure became that deep red color with a glow just around a corner. From it, Sampson saw the young queen as a child, back when he'd first met her in his previous life. Her appearance was rather disheveled, granted, Sampson assumed it was due to the mental toll she took for what was happening to her and her body with Chara in control.
Quickly, the male bowed to her. "Your majesty. Your guard is here to assist you. I'm glad to see we finally are able to talk."
"...How? Y-your take over magic?" Her voice sounded more childlike, but Sampson could hear the edges of his queen still there. Her tacticalmind was still present from her previous life. "That's how you got in... but it won't last for long. Chara will push you out if given the chance just like Angel kept you out-"
"I'm well aware of that, my queen. Which is why Vince and I had a plan." He slowly reached out for Frisk's hand to hold. "He's using his most powerful magic to keep her busy. We know that this will only offer us some time. It's only to offer me this undisturbed window with you. We don't have much time, and we're aware that this is a suicide mission. We don't expect to live. And we have measures in place to keep her from getting our souls. My queen... let me do all I can for you while I have time. You're almost to your sister. Lady Angel is inside the castle. The judgement hall is where she waits."
Frisk's eyes widened at how closer in truthher sister was so close to her. She couldn't help but take a moment to look out of the sharedvision she and Chara shared to see herself getting thrown around while Vinnie was using his most powerful attacks to ruin the city around them to keep her running.
This... this could be her chance.
"Okay." Squeezing Sampson's hands, she nodded quickly. "So, what's the plan?"
"I need to know anything I can about how you're attached to Chara, or how she's attached to you. How deep in the connection, and then is there any physical attachment of how she's locked onto you."
"It's deep Sampson... deeper than I ever could have guessed." With a sigh, Frisk began to lead the male down the tunnels, the pathways of her combined mind with that of Chara. "You rememberin our previous life how we had that opposing enemy organization we fought, the head of it being our distant cousin of the Terians family?"
"I remember that, m'lady."
"Chara is her older sister. She's a Terians. And that's how her hold is so strong." Her shoulders sagged before leading Sampson deeper to a chamber that was a rich red in color. The two of them rounded a corner to see a large chamber with two souls interconnected by chains of a deep red color, magic flowing between them. "We share the same blood and magic. And you can see how tangled we are."
"I do your majesty..." Looking over the thickly containedchains, Sampson slowly made his way toward them. He tried to pull them away from each other, but they hardly moved. Once his grip was off of them, they returned to their exact place where they were before. "This magic... it's incredible..."
"Incredibly frustrating at times to be honest." Frisk commented softlyfrom where she stood. "I'm not sure what you can do to help me. I'm pretty trapped here."
"No, there is a way." Sampson shook his head before he actually began to climb up the chain. He wiggled his small body between that of the chain and the soul that was Frisk's. It was still bright red, with only a hint of darknessin that. Most likely that was from her previouslife when she killedLuke.
Wedginghimselfbetween the chains and the soul, he let the chains tighten around him, cinchinghim down. It was rather painful, but Sampson didn't let him bother him as he let his body hang there. "My death shall be the help you need to escape."
"Wh-Sampson!?" Frisk was rather startled by his actions with her eyes widening. "How does this lead to my freedom?"
"Even if you cannot get your body back, freeing your soul would be enough. Chara may have your body, but without you, she will be weakened. And you could attach yourself to Angel." Sampson showed her a sad smile while he sat there, it was as close to beaming as the mouse male could provide. "It may not be the true freedom that you wish, or that Angel will wish, or anyone else... but no longer would you be attached to this. No longer could you be forced to do something you don't wish to. Killing the people you cherished and loved. I'm more than happy to do that my lady, you and your sister helped me so much in my previous life. And I vowed to serve you until the end of your reign. You're still alive standing before me, your rein's not over-"
But Sampson was cut off with a bright red object bursting through his chest. His words cut off as he silenced a scream. Frisk however did cry out, stepping back from the intertwined chains and souls as Sampson held onto the chain with what remaining breath he had left in him. The wound was too perfect...
It seemed his time was up...
Chara yanked the weapon from the mouse man's chest from where she breathed heavily on the steps of the castle. It was a hell of a battle she went through taking out that hare male. With him using his magical strength to level the capitol no matter where she tried to duck and hide, she was covered in bruises, cuts and welts. He proved certainly worthy of being the second in command, especially since she ran in circles forever. She couldn't even focus on Frisk and their uninvitedguest inside theirbody. She knew they were talking, but that was all she could get out of it while trying to stay alive.
She ignored their words. Frisk couldn't do anything to save them, and it was pointless of them even trying. Her fight with the hare man only lasted about ten minutes. But it was an intense fight. Once the entire city was leveled around them, the man had not as many things he could hit, and Chara could finally fling all she could at him. At one point she got so frustrated she... perhaps may have stabbed him a few many times in the chest before his soul shattered, and she didn't even care. The asshole had a bomb attached to his soul anyway so she couldn't get it.
They were starting to combat her methods... if everyone had a bomb on them... she would never get a soul.
So then she traveled to the male mouse who was talking to her partner. The dearest queen and him finally Chara was able tofocus on,in the moments the fight settled down, but there was a ringing in her ears. It was rather hard to hear. So she walked rather numbly toward the remaining body, yanked off the front plate of his armor and stabbed him. She groaned as the fight was finally over.
His body faded before her and she watched carefully for the soul to appear, waiting to see it and the most likely apparent bomb that would be attached. But she didn't see it. She blinked, watching it intensely before she saw a red and white glow come from her. Looking down, she was actually surprised by the white soul she saw wedged between herself and Frisk's.
And that soul had a bomb on it like the last guy.
"Shit!"
But Chara didn't have time to react as an explosion went off against both her soul and Frisks. Both girls screamed internally before falling to the ground, in pain. Their already aggravated wounds, cuts and broken bones were searing. With all of it going on, both girls hardly noticed one key feature that happened as they wallowedin pain...
A metallic crack...
Witch's Note:
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
You guys got any guesses what this means?
Ooo! I'm so excited for the next chapter! The next one is shorter than what I personally care for, but it fits too perfectly that I was afraid to add to it without adding another entire chapter worth of information. But we're almost to the end. Four more chapters to go!
And for those of you who asked, I'm sorry Mystic Girl hasn't been around as much in reviews and what not. She and her family hasn't been feeling very well and she recently got in an accident with them. She's okay, so no freaking out. She's been to see doctors but between the accident and everyone being sick, she's really out of it. So, she and I haven't talked much. Hopefully that will change when she feels better and I can post here.
But for now, to reviews!
Thechaosmaster: I'm glad you and Red had so much fun with Mettaton's death. It pleases me pink. And your more the welcome to keep the pieces you've taken of her for your person collections. I know Mystic Girl took something in relation to her chest cavity I believe… can't remember what it was, probably her cold metallic heart.
I'm eager also that you plan to work on your other stories! I loved your Fates Intertwined story, but also that one chapter you did for Subnautica was lovely! I'm eager for whenever you do another chapter for that!
MysticBoywastaken: I'm glad your enjoying, and hopefully you got part of Mettaton you wanted to keep as well. I think her arms and head are still to claim if you're looking for a certain part.
Shadow8Phantom: You do bring up a rather interesting point, if Sampson had used his takeover magic on Frisk when she was manipulated by Luke… what would have happened? Unfortunately, something we won't get to see since that's already happened.
But you're on the mark that of course Angel would never want to kill Frisk. Its her dear little sister that she raised and cared for in multiple lives, Frisk is not just a sister… she's almost like a first daughter to Angel. Its now many times she's raised and cared for her. And Sans as well… She's very precious to them…
So, what do you think will take place now with what happened?
midnightwreken: Its interesting that you ask if Frisk can be saved after this most recent chapter that we just had. Do you feel the same now? After what Sampson said or what happened to Chara and Frisk when and explosion went off against their magic and their souls? Are we going to have a true genocide ending… or will it be different?
Everything is changing now folks… do you feel it in the air? Do you feel it in your bones? I'm eager to see your speculations, I'm eager to see what you all think…
And I'm eager to post more as we've gotten to our last four chapter…
Love you all and see you next week!
Halloween Witch and Mystic Girl
