I realised that I didn't really find myself missing Indigo much when the day finally arrived for us to leave it.

Since the next stop for the interpol is Unova, Looker had managed to get us a free ride on the ship the Unova delegation used. Indigo's border lockdown was still in effect thanks to the Rocket purge, where Indigo's forces were still giving it their all to uproot as many remnants of Team Rocket as they could possibly find. That was no longer any of our business, so Looker decided to have us leave at the earliest opportunity.

Siebold would be staying in Indigo for a short while to wait for a ship to bring him and Valerie back to Kalos. Blob was still missing, still hadn't sent a word back after he just up and disappeared right after the battle at Olivine but I knew he would be fine. I just had no idea if I would be meeting him ever again.

It seemed that I was the first to board the ship because nobody else was there when I arrived. That means that I got dibs on which room I wanted for myself and I soon settled for a room whose windows showed a great view outside. By the time I had finished unpacking my stuff there were already a few more people on board, and with them an unexpected guest.

"You are coming with us to Unova?"

'Who? Me? Oh, no, I'm just curious since I had never been on a ship before,' Mewtwo explained as he casually floated himself from place to place on the ship's deck and curiously checked out every nook and cranny that caught his interest. I could tell that his appearance was freaking the ship's crews out and I gave a discreet hand gesture for them to just leave Mewtwo to me. I had met and talked to Mewtwo on several occasions before this, mainly because Mewtwo was extremely curious about Mega Evolution. Kalos was the birthplace of that mysterious power and I do know a thing or two about it that many people wouldn't, which was why Mewtwo sought me out after learning from Shannon that I'm privy to some secrets.

"By any chance, were you the one who helped him break out?" I asked as we both leaned against the railings to enjoy the view and the seabreeze. Mewtwo gave an audible snort in reply.

'I would be worried if he needed my help for such a trivial matter.'

"So it's all him?"

'Bypassing that level of security is child's play to him.'

Not long ago, Jayce, the last of us who holds the title of Shadow, Vanquisher of Darkness had somehow made a jailbreak and escaped from confinement under everyone's noses. He was supposed to be heavily injured and recuperating under the stern watch of Indigo's forces, his status as Team Rocket's Executive Plague warranted such an arrangement. Yet, he had somehow accomplished the impossible and made a fool out of the Indigo League once more.

Great, and I had thought that we would have a chance to learn more about each other. Maybe he would know something about what brought us here that the rest of us don't.

'Don't look so glum, the worst had already passed. Things are just going to get better.'

"I certainly hope so. The six of us had really hoped to speak with him. I can understand him wanting to make an escape but still…"

'He's definitely not one to initiate a conversation,' Mewtwo agreed. 'But he's genuinely a nice person deep down, take it from someone who was originally created to be a heartless killing machine. He was the one who made me into who I am today.'

"Nova? Mewtwo?"

We turned in the direction of whoever had called us, and we spotted Velda walking over. Her espeon, pachirisu, and scizor were accompanying her as usual.

"Hey there, guess we are the early birds."

"Hi Nova," Velda returned the greeting before turning to speak to Mewtwo. "You are coming with us too?"

'Nope, just here for some sightseeing before I fly myself over to Kalos. Was thinking if I could recreate the famous Titanic pose, or maybe the you jump I jump scene, or maybe even the draw me like one of your french girls scene just for shit and giggles but I don't think anybody is in the mood for that.'

"I would pay great money to see you recreate the draw me like one of your french girls scene, with you being Rose." Velda asked as she stood beside us to enjoy the view and the breeze as well.

'That wouldn't really create much oomph. I mean, I'm already naked in the first place. There's no element of surprise. Nobody would want to see a nude Mewtwo.'

"Fair enough," I agreed. "Are you heading to Kalos? Is there anything that you are planning to do there?"

'I'm hoping to bump into the doggy there, or if not, maybe meet either this world's equivalent of the God of Life or Death.'

Our replies were instantaneous.

"Please don't."

"Yes, please don't," I immediately found myself agreeing to Velda's sentiment, not at all eager to know what would happen if Mewtwo met either Xerneas or Yveltal.

'Why is everyone saying the same thing? Where is that trust borne out of the camaraderie we shared back at the battle at Olivine?' Mewtwo seemed exasperated as he threw his arms into the air while saying that. Velda's pachirisu openly sniggered at that remark and I saw Velda lightly flicking its head with her finger to get it to remain silent. It's not wise to piss off a pokemon as powerful and temperamental as Mewtwo.

"Correct me if I am wrong, but you want to battle them, which is why you are seeking them out." Velda asked.

'Why, yes. I believe that was obvious.'

"Xerneas aside, Yveltal is quite literally the grim reaper. A flap of its wings can kill anyone in the vicinity, or so I heard. Nova, back me up here."

"That's true," I agreed.

"Now can you see why trying to seek them out to do battle, especially Yveltal, doesn't seem like the wisest thing to do?"

'But I am Mewtwo, I am not going to die that easily. If I can handle that oversized dodrio at their worst I can easily handle just one bird by myself.'

"But what if your battle with Yveltal accidentally brings about an apocalypse to Kalos?"

'That… Hmm…' Mewtwo scratched its chin with a finger while remaining deep in thought. 'Is kinda none of my business…?'

"Mewtwo."

'Fine, fine, it is my business. Jayce wouldn't be happy with me if I accidentally killed off the entire region,' Mewtwo conceded. 'But are there any other strong pokemon in Kalos for me to test my strength? Because I will be severely disappointed if there aren't any worthy opponents waiting for me there.'

Seeing as how Velda was sending me desperate looks to help divert Mewtwo's attention away from fighting with Yveltal of all pokemon, I decided to explain what I know.

"The Aura Trio aside, there are three other notable species of pokemon which presumably hold an unbelievable amount of power. They are classified as Kalos' mythical pokemon, namely Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion. None of them had been sighted for close to a century, and for some it had been even longer than that."

"I've heard of their names, but not really familiar with what they really are," Velda admitted.

"That's normal, most Kalosians don't really know much about them either unless their work involved them in one way or another. There's really not much of a picture of them either, mainly verbal descriptions or sketchy images that psychics had helped extract from the witnesses' memories long ago. Most people would be more familiar with Diancie, since it is sometimes revered as a symbol of wealth and fortune for its supposed ability to create diamonds. Tales spoke of how whoever possesses a Diancie will live a life of luxury."

'So what would it do? Stone me to death with diamonds?'

"I don't know. Like their classification of mythical pokemon suggests, all that we know about them are mainly myths. We have no idea how much of that is true and which is false."

"But diamonds? Scientifically, diamonds are only made up of one element, which is carbon. What gives diamonds its unique hardness is the arrangement of the carbon atoms, which is different from graphite's layer structure despite also being formed solely by carbon atoms. So does that mean that the truth of Diancie's ability is the ability to rearrange carbon atoms to form diamond? If so, maybe it can also create graphite as well?"

'Diamond and graphite are the same thing?'

"Chemically wise, they are all made up of carbon atoms if I recall my facts right, just arranged differently in terms of chemical structure. But going by that logic, if a pokemon can create diamonds, would that mean that it has the power to control carbon too?"

'So that means that Diancie can create pencils as well as diamonds?'

"If you put it that way…"

'I have to ask a Diancie when I meet one. Wait a minute, how would I know if I ever meet a Diancie when I don't even know what they looked like?'

"I'm sure the ability to create shiny diamonds is a hard one to miss."

'If diamond is the hardest substance in existence, then what about pokemon who is said to be harder than even diamond? I'm sure that a steelix's hide is supposed to be harder than diamonds, so which is the truth? And if so, what is the kind of substance that made up a steelix's hide?'

"You know what, that's a very good question. Maybe we should ask Shannon, or maybe there's a misconception that diamond is the hardest substance in the world. We need to find out more. Maybe if we could–"

Somehow or another, the topic of our conversation derailed into an in-depth discussion about diamonds and carbons. Mewtwo and Velda do get along surprisingly well, and Velda did know a lot of random general knowledge that was enough to sate Mewtwo's unending curiosity and thirst to know everything. Perhaps them becoming friends shouldn't be a surprise for me.

' –then what about the other two mythicals that we were talking about?'

"You mean Hoopa and Volcanion? I'm not too sure about that…"

Upon noticing Velda's probing gaze, I decided to explain what I knew about the other two elusive mythicals that were said to call Kalos their home.

"Hoopa was rumoured to be a troublemaker and a kleptomaniac. There were stories of it being able to warp space itself and utilise it to steal anything that caught its fancy. Experts are speculating it to be a ghost type, but since nobody had managed to catch a good glimpse of it for any longer than a few minutes there's no way we would know for sure. What we do know was that its power was able to be sealed, and that in its unsealed form hoopa was able to cause wanton destruction when angered."

"Definitely sounds like a ghost type."

"I agree, although it would be helpful if there was someone in this world who had properly documented its abilities and characteristics."

'A trickster with the annoying ability to appear and disappear anywhere and anytime? Interesting.' Mewtwo mused before asking about the last mythical living within Kalos. 'And Volcanion?'

"There were myths that claimed that its existence was the inspiration behind the invention of the steam engine. Not sure how true that is, but that's what I heard. What I read about it was that it seems to prefer living deep within the mountains where humans do not tread, but also possess enough power to blow away a mountain and change the landscape in an instant. There were records that people once worshipped it as a Mountain God in the distant past because of that, and that the sudden appearance of dense fog within the mountains were signs that the Mountain God was angered. Descriptions of it depict Volcanions as a maroon quadrupedal pokemon with some… arm-like cannons. Maybe something like those of a magmortar? Not too sure about that one."

'Blow off an entire mountain? Now that sounds like a worthy foe to face.'

"I don't think Diantha would appreciate Kalos suddenly missing a mountain or two."

'Oh I'm sure nobody would notice, there's too many mountains within Kalos for anyone to keep count anyway. Besides, the doggy is a Legendary, he could easily recreate a few more.'

"I don't think that is the point here."

'Oh, you are absolutely right! The point is how I am supposed to seek those mythicals out and have my fun. In fact, I should take my leave now, better three hours too soon than a minute too late. Adios, ladies, the next time we meet we shall speak the tales of my legendary feats, of how I, the magnanimous Mewtwo, defeated the Gods of Kalos! I assure you, sisters… The sun shall shine on us again!'

"Wait–"

Mewtwo disappeared with a pop before either Velda or I could get anything out of our mouths.

"Well, shit."

"If a mountain or two really went missing and Diantha asked, we knew nothing about this."

"Agreed." Velda nodded before asking another question. "But seriously, how did Jayce manage to keep Mewtwo in check? The more I get to know Mewtwo the more I'm impressed at his ability to get Mewtwo to listen. It's like Mewtwo wasn't listening to us at all and simply does whatever he likes."

"And don't you think none of his quotes make sense? Yeah, I mean, I get the references as a fellow reincarnator, sun will shine on us again and all that but… in what context does this apply here?"

"Who knows?" Velda shrugged. "Maybe Mewtwo just loves quotes from our old world."

"Pretty sure Mewtwo quoted Shakespeare right there too."

"Really? What quote?"

"Better three hours too soon than a minute too late. Pretty sure that was Shakespeare."

"Sorry, literature really wasn't my thing; still isn't. The only Shakespeare quote I know for sure is 'To be or not to be'."

"That really is the question, isn't it? Although for us, to do or not to do would be much more suited to our situation. If what happened at Olivine is the kind of thing that we will be regularly facing during our time in the interpol, I think I might just quit the moment we reached Unova."

"That is probably a one-off thing. Legendary pokemon are usually sighted only about once in a century or two if we are lucky enough. All of them suddenly being sighted within a few years? You would have a much better chance of winning the lottery."

Logically speaking, I know that Velda is right, but still...

"Let's just hope that you are right."

Because if not, I shudder to even try and think what it would mean for Legends to suddenly be roused from their slumber one after the other.
