Sam Pov

We arrived at the house and I quickly got out, eager to check on Bella and make sure that she was doing ok. I walked through the door and stepped to the side to allow Jared, Emily and Kim through. I went to walk towards the den and stopped when I realised that Bella was sat in my recliner. It was known amongst the pack how I didn't like anybody to sit in my chair, it was slightly higher up than the sofa. My wolf had an issue being below others in the pack and I also did not like another person's scent on it.

"She just sat in it and curled up, I didn't want to tell her to move, especially after the breakdown she had on the beach." Paul said, coming to stand next to me has the two girls walked into the den.

"I didn't think to mention the recliner when I showed her around the house earlier." I told him.

"When we first walked into the den, she done something quite odd." Paul spoke in a low voice.

I growled at him for calling Bella odd, before nodding at him to keep talking.

"She walked up and down the sofa, looking at each seat, she even looked at Jared's bean bag and leant down. Then she stood back up and walked to the recliner and sitting down in it. I watched has she sniffed it, before moving her body so her nose was near the same place where your neck usually rests."

Jared then joined us, has we watched Emily and Kim sit on the floor in front of the recliner and talk quietly with Bella.

"I've noticed that she sniffs us, I don't think she is even aware that she is doing it though. I would say give it a few weeks of Princess hanging around us and she would be able to recognise us by scent." Jared spoke, has we watched Bella lean back and softly sniff the chair and relaxing.

"Very wolf like." I replied, not sure what else to say. It was something that we all relied on more than any other of our senses. "Do the other two girls do it?" I asked.

"Nope" Paul replied, a little louder so Bella could hear us causing her to move in the seat so that she could see us.

I shrugged my shoulders and walked into the den and straight towards my chair, I stopped mid step when I realised my wolf didn't care that Bella was sat on his throne. Emily and Kim shuffled away and stood up, walking over to their mates. I could almost smell their nervousness once they realised where Bella was sitting.

I looked over to Jared when he chuckled and quietly said, "Your wolf doesn't care." I gave him a sharp nod, and continued walking to Bella.

I heard Bella gasp, has I picked her up and sat back in my chair with her now sat on my lap. I used my wolf reflexes, and grinned when her heart rate sped up.

"You are in my chair Princess." I told her.

"Oh, Paul didn't say anything or I would have moved and sat on the sofa." Bella replied, sounding nervous.

"Hush, you are fine." I told her, pulled her closer to my chest has her heart rate slowed down. "How are you?"

I heard her heart rate take off and wrapped my arms tight around Bella. "I wasn't ready to hear all the stories." Bella whispered, I looked up when the rest of the house went quiet and growled lowly at them to give Bella some privacy.

"No, I think it was too soon, when you are ready to hear them, we will have another bonfire and you can hear them." I told her. "What do you want to do tonight?" I asked her.

I felt Bella shrug, looking up and around the room. "Where did everybody go?"

"They are giving us some privacy." I told her, listening out to see where everybody was.

"They didn't have to."

"Guys you can come out now." I called out, in my normal voice. Seconds later doors opened, and everybody came into the den. "So, what is the plan for the rest of the evening?" I asked them.

"Bella you are our guest, what do you want to do?" Paul asked.

I could feel Bella try to move closer to me, when the whole pack was staring at her, it didn't help that Jake and Embry walked in and squeezed there way into the den. Bella's heart rate rose has they waited for an answer. "Emily, Paul make some popcorn and snacks, Kim get the drinks. Jacob and Embry get the blankets and make a pallet on the floor, and Jared pick a movie." I ordered out, watching has the room emptied.

Jared went to shelf and pulled out a movie holding it up, I growled at his choice. "We are not watching Scream, pick a movie we can all watch, don't make me regret letting you choose."

"Bella, do you like horror movies?" Jared asked grinning waving the DVD case around, making me growl.

"That is not a horror Jared, that is a slasher movie, where the killer is like a cat and has nine lives." Bella chuckled. "No, I hate slasher movies, the fake blood and fake screams annoy me."

The wolves laughed at what Bella said, shortly followed by Emily and Kim who was still in the kitchen with Paul.

"What about Final Destination?"

"Jared pick out a different film genre, not one that will scar us." I growled at him, slowly losing my patience with him.

"Ok, OK, what about Space Balls?"

"Space what?" Bella asked looking confused.

"Have you watched Star Wars?" Jared asked.

Bella nodded, "Yeah Charlie likes watching them."

"Well this is like a parody of Star Wars, it's funny and a classic." Jared explained to her.

"I could do with some comedy" Bella mumbled, before looking up at Jared. "If everybody else is happy to watch it, then yes I guess." Speaking up louder.

"Well it's my turn to choose, so we will watch Space Balls" Jared said, sounding far too excitable.

We all sat silently has the beginning credits began, with a short roll on what was happening just before the movie. Jared had watched this movie so many times he could recite them whenever, yet he still read every single line.

"Do you want me to get off of you?" Bella turned and whispered.

I wrapped my arms around her tighter and swallowed the growl that wanted to come out, with just the thought of her moving. "No" I told her and smirked to myself when she seemed to relax more.

There was one thing I did learn about Bella during the movie and that was that she loved popcorn, I could almost feel her eyes rolling at me every time I put my hand in the bowl that was sat on her lap to grab a hand full. Twice her bowl was refilled, and then going has far has slyly moving the bowl closer to herself, thinking that I would not grab a hand full.

My wolf loved hearing Bella giggle at the funny scenes, and I knew the whole pack all watched her and grinned every single time. The movie ended, and I had to stop myself from sighing loudly when Bella jumped off my lap, stretched and yawned before taking her empty bowl to the kitchen.

It was late, I stood up and stretched out my back, and watched has the others cleaned up the den. My wolf needed to phase and run a sweep through the Reservation before going to bed. Bella hadn't asked me to join her in the bedroom, so I had already decided to sleep in the den just in case she had a nightmare.

"Bed time, it's late, I'm going to run a quick patrol. Jared, you run one at three and Paul you go out at six tomorrow morning. Just do a quick sweep of the whole Reservation and the beaches, howl if you come across anything."

"Bella everything you need should be upstairs already, if you do need anything then knock on mine or Kim's doors." Emily said, before heading towards her room with Paul following close behind her.

Jared dragged Kim behind him, towards her room just has Jake and Embry walked into the pack bedroom.

I took Bella's hand and led her towards the stairs, has she started to look nervous and uncomfortable. I heard her take a deep breath before she started to climb the stairs, I watched has she went into the bedroom and closed the door behind her. I wanted her to invite me to sleep next to her or ask me to sleep on the floor. With a final look at the stairs, I walked out of the house and towards the forest.

Bella Pov

I closed the door and looked at the bed, I didn't want to have a nightmare tonight and to wake everybody up. I also didn't want to look weak if I had asked Sam to take be back to Billy's, I really wanted Sam to sleep next to me, but I didn't want to embarrass myself if I asked and he said no.

I looked over to the window seat and just decided to grab a blanket and spend the night sitting against the window watching the sky, if I didn't fall asleep then the nightmares will stay away. I brushed my teeth and prepared myself for the night before taking a blanket that had been folded up on the floor near the closet.

The window seat had cushions, so I climbed up and pulled the blanket around me, with my forehead leaning against the window and relaxed into the cushions. The cold seeping through the window pane stopped me from falling asleep, has I watched the light grey clouds sail across the night sky.

I don't know how long I was sat there for before I saw Sam walking out of the forest catching my eye, I looked away when he looked straight up to the window. I looked back out the window when I heard the bedroom door open.

"Bella, why are you not in bed?" Sam asked, walking closer to where I was sat.

I didn't look at him and continued to stare out of the window has I answered him, "if I fall a sleep and have a nightmare, I'm going to wake everybody up."

"Do you want to go back to Billy's?" Sam asked, but I could hear the disappointment in his voice.

"No"

"Come on, get into bed, I will stay with you." Sam said, lifting me out of the window seat and putting me on my feet, keeping a grip at the top of my arm until he was sure I had my balance.

I walked away from him and climbed into bed, laying on the left-hand side of the bed and pulling the duvet up so it was just under my chin. I watched has Sam went to the dresser and pulled some shorts out before going into the bathroom, I pulled the blanket up closer to my face when he left the bathroom and climbed into the bed next to me.

Before I could do anything, Sam pulled me closer to him and wrapped his arm around my torso. "This isn't the first time we have shared a bed, relax and get some sleep, I'm here if you wake up."

I nodded and edged my way closer to him, so I could feel more of his heat, I felt my eyes close and relaxed into the pillows and mattress.

"Night Princess." I heard Sam whisper, before I fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

I woke up to day light coming through the window and covered in sweat, I tried to move and realised that Sam was led on his front with me wedged against his side being held by his arm. The bed felt like a fluffy cloud and wrapped around Sam, for the first time that I could ever remember I felt warm and toasty.

But of course, my bladder had other ideas, and decided to let me know it was full. I slowly crawled down the bed, gently pulling Sam's arm from around me. He sniffled and shuffled, and I couldn't stop the grin because the movement made him look cute and cuddly.

I tiptoed across the bedroom floor and into the bathroom, making sure I quietly closed the bathroom door, I didn't want to wake Sam up. Running the pack and working has hard has he does; he probably needed all the sleep he could get. After doing my business, I tip toed across the bedroom to the corner where I had thrown my hoody the night before and then slowly walked out of the room shutting the door softly behind me. I had no idea what the time was, but the house seemed so quiet, my guess was that it was too early, and everybody was asleep.

I walked down the stairs and jumped I couldn't stop the small gasp leave my mouth when Emily walked out of the kitchen, Emily jumped has well her hand going to her heart.

"Morning Bella, you scared me then, I thought I was the only one up." Emily whispered with a grin.

"Sorry for making you jump." I smiled back.

"Do you want a coffee? I've just made myself one." Emily asked, walking back into the kitchen before I could answer her.

"Please" I replied has I followed her into the kitchen and watched has she poured me a coffee before pointing to the creamer and sugar. I made my coffee the way I liked it before looking back up at her. "Is everyone still in bed?" I asked, looking around the den and down the hallway.

"Paul has just left to run a quick patrol, I'm a light sleeper so when Paul got up, he woke me up."

"Ok" I nodded, taking a sip of my coffee

"Do you want to sit out on the porch with me? The wolves are light sleepers so if I'm up early I try to be as quiet as possible, so I don't wake them." Emily asked, nodding towards the front door.

I nodded in agreement before following her out to the porch, where she sat on the bench that was pushed up against, the house. I joined her, sitting a bit closer to her when I realised how cold it was. We were both sat in silence for a few minutes, I was listening to the birds and other wildlife waking up in the forest opposite.

"How are doing Bella? I hope you don't mind but Sam told me about your break up." Emily asked, turning her head to look at me.

"I feel like my heart has this black hole, and its broken." I told her, while looking into the forest, there was no point just telling her I was fine.

"It's not a nice feeling having your heart broken, it happened to me a few weeks before I moved to La Push." I looked over to her, has her voice lowered and sounded sad.

"What happened?" I asked her. "Sorry, I don't mean to be nosy.

"It's fine, I'm over it now mostly. I fell in love with my high school sweet heart, I thought he was my forever. In my head my future was all planned out, he got a job straight out of high school. We were saving to rent a cabin; I had dreams of a red cabin with a white picket fence around it. Getting married, having children and then growing old together." Emily answered seemingly lost in her memories while staring out into the forest.

"Did something happen to him?" I asked.

"No, he just didn't have the same dreams has me. The first couple of weeks of the summer, everything felt perfect. We were both working and saving and because of that we began to see each other less and less, I thought it was just us working hard to achieve our dreams."

Emily stopped talking when the door opened, we both looked over to see Jake. He had two blankets, he silently wrapped one over each of our shoulders. "I'm going to have a shower, shout if you need anything." He said before walking back into the house.

I pulled the blanket further around myself, bringing my knees up so the blanket would also cover them. I looked over to see Emily doing the same.

"Then one day" Emily continued, "he turned up in the afternoon and said we needed to talk, I thought he was going to tell me that he had found us somewhere to live. I was wrong, so wrong. He had been offered a job in Canada and he wanted to go, they were going to pay for him to go to college."

"Didn't you want to go?" I asked, after Emily had been quiet for a while.

"He never asked me, he said he wanted to go alone and to find himself and make a different future for himself. I wasn't included in that future, he told me he didn't love me anymore and that he didn't want to be with me."

I reached out to rub her arm, but then she took my hand and squeezed it, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Emily knew how I was feeling, and how empty my heart felt.

"God, Emily he sounds like a right idiot." I told her, not wanting to admit to myself how familiar Emily's ex and HE are.

She chuckled, "at the time I thought it was me, but yeah he was an idiot."

"So, what happened after?" I asked her, almost desperate to know how she got here and was happy.

"I was broken, devastated, and I think mourning my lost future. For almost a month I refused to get out of bed, my mom had to practically force feed me and wash me. Then Leah came for a visit, and she verbally smacked me across the head and told me to get up and no man was worth me dying over."

"Yeah that sounds like the type of thing Leah would say." I said, laughing when Emily chuckled.

"So, she packed my bags and told me, I was moving to La Push to live with her, my aunt, uncle and Seth. I fought her to begin with, I wanted to stay just in case Noah, my ex had changed his mind."

"You're a brave woman, you told Leah no." I grinned at her.

"I know, her face was a picture, she just shrugged her shoulders and told me tough, I was coming even if she had to drag me by my hair."

"She would have done, you know." I told her.

"I know, but it was just easier to go along with her. So, I move down here, and I start to heal. Leah helped so much along with Aunt Sue, they made me see that it wasn't my fault." Emily said, before letting my hand go and reaching for my empty mug. She put both on the floor before retaking my hand again and squeezing it.

"Leah called me, told me that you were now living with them. She didn't tell me why or much about you. Just that she might not be around much to take my calls for a while, that you needed her more." I told her, squeezing her hand back.

"She told me all about you Bella, how she had planned to move closer to you when she was finished with school and that I should join her and Sam."

"My mom was leaving Arizona with her husband, and the plan was for me to go to college with Leah and Sam the year after they started and for all of us to live at my house. There would have been room for you as well, we would have had to of shared a bathroom though."

"Then everything changed." I heard Emily mumble.

"Yeah" I replied, I had a feeling the conversation was going to change direction now to include the pack.

"A few weeks after I moved here, Leah and Sam started to argue. Sam wasn't the same person that Leah had described to me. He was angry a lot and was distancing himself away from everyone. He had started to grow taller and more muscles, Leah thought he was using steroids and the anger was because of them." Emily said, squeezing my hand again and turning so she was looking at me.

"I know, she rang me in tears, scared that he was using drugs and that she was losing him." I shuddered, remembering that phone call, Leah was not a crier.

"They had this massive fight one evening, and Sam stormed off. He went missing that night, was gone for almost three weeks. Leah was so angry and hurt, she joined his mom in looking for him.

"She went to my dad, made him print missing posters and let the police in Seattle know." I told her, remembering the phone call I had from dad and letting me know that Leah was struggling.

"She wouldn't give up on him, I went from letting her heal me to me being a shoulder for her to cry on." Emily grimaced. "Then he just turned back up again, like nothing had happened. We could see that he had grown, he was even taller now and his muscles were huge."

I guessed it was during those weeks that Sam had disappeared he had phased for the first time and was probably running around the forest in his wolf form.

"Suddenly Uncle Harry became secretive, Sam would only visit him and ignore Leah. Then one day he pulled Leah into his arms, he put his cheek on her forehead and then stepped back. He looked so sad and lost, he told her that he was never going to leave the Reservation and it was over between them." Emily continued talking, more softly now and turning to investigate the forest.

"Leah rang me, she was so angry and hateful, calling him every disgusting name under the sun. she asked if she could come for a visit, just to get away from everything. That was the last time I ever spoke to her; she was going to book a flight." I said, quickly wiping away a tear has it slid down my face.

"I know, she just needed to get away. Uncle Harry was all set to book her flight and let her stay with you. I thought I was going to lose her, I thought that she was going to see you and want to stay there. So, I made the decision to go speak to Sam, I wrote a note pretending it was from Leah letting him know that she was leaving, and she probably won't be returning."

"She was going to come back, she still had school to finish." I almost snapped at her and closed my eyes. I remember from what Sam had told me, in the diner. I screwed my eyes shut trying not to lose it, Emily started the whole chain of events leading to Leah getting injured.

"Honestly Bella, I didn't think of that at the time. So, off I went, first I went to his mom's. Sam had moved out a few days after he returned, she told me where he was, so I stormed here and banged on the door. Imagine my surprise when it was Paul who answered the door and not Sam." Emily chuckled, and shaking her head. "I knew, the minute I saw him, I felt safe and wanted. He pulled me into his arms and put his cheek on my forehead, oh the heat, it just soaked right through to my bones. For the first time ever I felt warm, and comfortable." I looked over to see Emily smiling, remembering meeting Paul for the first time.

"They seem to have a way of doing that don't they? And their body temperature is like a little bit of heaven." I whispered, pulling the blanket closer around me.

"Yes, they do, I pushed Paul away to begin with and I was shocked when he growled at me. Sam pushed him out of the way, and wrapped his arms around me, looking down at me and looking so confused.

"Did you have a go at him, tell him about Leah leaving?" I asked, trying to imagine Emily shouting and screaming at him.

"No, Paul pulled me back Sam told me to stay here and he was going to speak to the elders." She answered, shaking her head.

"And did you stay?" I asked because I knew that I wouldn't.

"No, I told Paul to leave me alone and I ran out of the house, I went back to the Clearwater's and locked myself in the bathroom." Laughing at herself and actions.

"I'm not sure how long I was in there before Uncle Harry was knocking on the door, telling me the others were there and he needed to talk to me. So, I walked into the kitchen to find all three Elder's or the three wise men as Kim calls them, along with Sam and Paul."

"Did you run again?" I asked, knowing that I probably would of.

"I wanted to, but instead I was told to sit down. They told me the legends, and that they were true. They then started to talk about imprinting, but what they described didn't match up to what Paul, Sam and I were feeling."

"What is imprinting?" I asked, before Emily could continue.

"A gift from the spirits for when the wolf phases, apparently it's like nothing else matters, like gravity pulls you to each other. Neither I nor Paul felt that, so the Elder's left to read more about wolf mating. Sam left us then, and I got to know Paul."

"I can't imagine Leah being very happy about Paul, they all look like brothers from afar." I said, trying to imagine what Leah's reaction would be like.

"When she came home, she found us in the kitchen still talking. By then the whole tribe knew that Paul had started to hang around with Sam. Leah lost it and kicked Paul out and then she turned on me." I watched silently has Emily used her free hand to wipe her eyes, I shuffled closer to her.

"You don't have to continue; if you don't want to." I whispered to her.

"No, I think you need to hear this. Leah started to shout at me that I had to pick either her or Paul. At some point Aunt Sue came home, she didn't know about the pack then, and she told me that if I picked Paul then I had to leave her house." Emily sniffed, pulling her hand out of mine and wrapping them around her legs.

"How did Sue not know about the pack?" I asked, surely Harry had told her.

"They really kept it secret Bella, the least amount of people that know the safer it is."

"So why was I told?" I asked.

"Bella, you need to ask Sam that one day, not yet, I don't think he will tell you yet." Emily answered, sounding cryptic.

"So, what happened?" I asked changing the subject.

"So, I said that I would pick them over Paul, I didn't see him for two days, and I became a mess, I suddenly felt colder, and I couldn't eat or sleep. Then Paul turned up one morning, looking pale and tired. I knew then that whatever this was, was permanent and for life. We talked some more, and I knew I had to go with him, so while everybody was out, I packed my bags, left a note and walked out of that house for the last time." Emily said, has she wiped her tears from her face.

I wrapped my arm across her shoulders bringing her closer. "Sam told me what happened next." I softly said to her, I didn't want to see her get more upset.

"That was the first and last time I saw Paul's wolf, I'm too scared to even think about him turning into a wolf now. Don't get me wrong I love Paul, but I can't deal with that side of him." Emily explained.

"The pack being in wolf form doesn't scare me, I think deep inside of me I know that they are the same person, but I never saw what happened that day." I told her.

"I know, and I'm glad, I think even in wolf form they still need human touch."

"Maybe, but it's definitely a confidence booster riding up that high and still feeling safe." I replied, wanting Emily to see that the men in their wolf forms are not scary or dangerous.

She smiled at me and took a deep breath. "I don't think Sam and Leah would have made it if we had all moved down to Arizona. Leah was a whirlwind, always on the go, always had to have something to do. Eventually she would have met like minded people, and probably even another man. I know opposites attract, myself and Paul are examples of that, but Sam and Leah were so different to each other. Sam likes peace and quiet."

"From the Sam I've got to know over the last week and how well I knew Leah, I think you are right. Thinking about it, there was no way I would have kicked Sam out if he and Leah split up. I wouldn't have let him become homeless; Leah would have moved out. Our friendship would be fine, but it would have put a distance between all of us in the beginning." I replied, trying to imagine what it would have been like all of us living together in Arizona.

Before Emily could say anything, the door rushed open and Sam stepped out with a look of panic on his face. He smiled when he saw us, and I could see him relax.

"Sam?" I asked.

"I'm going to make a start on breakfast" Emily said, getting up and pulling the blanket from around her shoulders. She shook the blanket out and then stepped closer to me, laying the blanket over the top of my legs that were now stretched out in front of the bench. "We were always going to be friends Bella, whether it was here or in Arizona." Emily whispered in my ear, before standing up straight and walking into the house.

Once the door was shut, Sam moved so he was sat next to me on the bench, I edged my way closer when I could feel his body heat. I almost sighed when he lifted his arm and pulled me closer to him, the heat from his body warming me up.

Before I could say anything to Sam, Paul stepped out of the forest and jogged towards the house. He stopped in front of us and smiled before looking at Sam. "All is clear out there, no scents but our own."

"Good" Sam rumbled out.

"Paul, you might want to check in on Emily, she told me her side of the story and got upset a few times." I told him, before he could walk away.

"She still finds it tough talking about it all, and your thoughts?" he asked, Paul's face suddenly looking guarded.

"There are things that could have happened to prevent it all, but Paul, I don't now, and I never will blame you. It was an accident; you are not at fault." I reassured him.

He stepped closer, and kissed my forehead, "Thank you" he whispered, walking to the front door and entering the house.

I looked over to Sam, who was silent, "What was the panicking all about when you came out here?"

"Don't worry about it, I just over reacted." He mumbled, pulling me even closer so I was almost sat on his lap.

"You thought I had left didn't you"? I asked him, unable to stop the chuckle leaving my mouth.

"Shut up." Was Sam's only answer, making me laugh again.
