Chapter 1
Naruto was walking closely behind Jiraiya who was busy flirting with Tsunade, Shizune was walking beside them carrying Tonton. They were travelling from Tanzaku town back to the Leaf, Naruto and Jiraiya had set out after the third hokage died in the chunin exam invasion against Orochimaru. They were to bring back Tsunade and convince here to become the fifth hokage.
They had succeeded but not without trouble, Orochimaru was also looking for Tsunade to heal his arms so the encounter ended in a major fight between the Sannin. Naruto had fought against Kabuto where he nearly lost his life when Kabuto severed his heart muscles using his chakra scalpels. This brings us to the recent change in mood from Naruto.
The normally bubbly bundle of energy was quiet and only he knew why. He had barely managed to survive against Kabuto and would have died if not for Tsunade, then there was the growing threat of the Akatsuki who almost captured him if not for Jiraiya. Im weak Naruto thinks to himself. He could barely keep up with the fighting.
When I think about it, Ive never really won a fight outright. Ever since I became a shinobi every fight almost ends in my death or I get lucky enough to survive. He starts to reminisce about his first mission in Wave Country where they fought against Zabuza and Haku, the first encounter with Orochimaru in the forest of death, his win against Kiba. Even though he didnt like to admit it that win was a fluke. His win against Neji was only because Neji underestimated him. His win against Gaara was purely luck.
So all in all Naruto sucked and that needed to change asap or else he would not survive much longer. He needed much more than he already had, the question is how. Before they knew it they were at the village gates, Naruto hadnt realised because he was lost in thought. You are dismissed brat, meet me at the office tomorrow said Tsunade. Naruto proceeded to wander the village until he bumped into someone who turned out to be Iruka.
Oh Naruto, didnt see you there. How have you been?
Been great Iruka-sensei, just came back from a mission with pervy-sage to bring back the old hag to the village. Seems like youve been on quite the adventure, how about I treat you to some ramen and you can tell me all about it Iruka said to Naruto. The two left and went to Ichirakus. They arrived and ordered, Naruto begins telling Iruka about the events of the mission. I need to get stronger sensei, and fast too. At this point Ill die before I become hokage. I cannot continue to be this weak.
But you have Kakashi, hes currently the strongest jonin in the village and he is your sensei. Im sure theres a lot he can teach you stated Iruka. I bet he would if he had time for me but all he cares about is Sasuke and his Sharingan. He doesnt even notice my presence replied Naruto. What about Master Jiraiya, Im sure hes capable enough. Pervy-sage is cool and all that but hes not always in the village so I cant really rely on him ya know.
Yeah I hear you. Ive got an idea, how about I help you. Really Iruka-sensei, you mean it? exclaimed Naruto happily. Yeah sure why not, you are my precious student after all. Come see me tomorrow after the academy so we can get started Iruka said. Sure thing sensei, I have a meeting with granny in the morning anyway. See you tomorrow said Naruto as he finished stuffing his face with ramen.
