Elena was sitting in the living room a couple of days later, Elena was sitting in the living room of the mansion reading a book. The repairs on the living room and dining room had been completed the day before. It was amazing how quickly Klaus had managed to get it done. Although, she was sure money and compulsion had a lot to do with it.

Elena soon heard her phone ring. She took it out and sighed when she saw who it was. It was Damon. Over the last several days, she'd probably gotten over fifty calls from Damon. She'd gotten a similar number of calls from Stefan. She ignored every single one of them. Talking to either of them would only stress her out further and she didn't need that. However, the dozens of calls every day didn't exactly come without stress either. Maybe if she spoke to him, he'd finally leave him alone.

"I know I'm going to regret this," Elena said before answering the call. "Damon, stop blowing up my phone."

"Finally! I've been calling you for days," Damon said.

"Yeah, I'm aware. You need to stop. Tell Stefan to stop too," Elena said.

"Well, excuse me for wanting to make sure you're okay," Damon said irritably.

"Oh, don't give me that. I've spoken to Caroline and Alaric almost daily, and I know you're in touch with one or both of them. You know perfectly well that I'm fine," Elena said.

"Oh, so it's just me that you're ignoring. That's nice," Damon said sarcastically.

"I'm ignoring you because I don't want to talk to you right now," Elena said in a frustrated tone.

"Don't tell me you're still jealous about me and Rebekah. It didn't mean anything," Damon said.

"You mean you and my mother, don't you? You had sex with my mother, and that fact doesn't seem to faze you," Elena said. Most guys would be creeped out by the fact they'd had sex with the mother of the girl they were interesting in. Not Damon apparently.

"She's not your mother. I don't know what craziness the Originals are spewing, but you shouldn't be so stupid…"

Elena cut him off before he could finish and didn't even bother to respond to his denial. "And get over yourself. I was never jealous. Although, I am a little creeped that you had sex with my mother and seem to be acting like it's some sort of courting move for me. No, I was mad because you did it to punish me and I'm tired of your games."

"Whatever, Elena. We can talk about this later. Just tell me what the Originals are up to," Damon said.

"I'm not playing into your paranoia, Damon. The only thing they're up to is trying to help me adjust to the changes in my life," Elena said.

"Oh, yeah, they're great. Did they tell you they ordered me and Stefan to stay away from you?" Damon asked.

"No, but it doesn't surprise me," Elena said. Elijah had already made it clear that they weren't welcome at the house. She could assume that meant that he and the others didn't want them around her. She wasn't exactly happy about that, but she didn't want to pick a fight about it just yet other. Her stress level was too high to be around them at the moment. "Look, when I get stressed out, things happen. Thinks break or go flying. That is why I am here and not home with Alaric. He could get hurt."

"Are you saying I stress you out?" Damon asked.

"Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying," Elena said matter-of-factly. She didn't get the chance to hear Damon's response, because moments later, her phone was yanked from her ear. She turned to see Klaus at her left with it in his grasp. "Hey!"

Klaus put the phone to his ear. "Call this number again and I will yank out your tongue!"

Elena stood up angrily. Despite the fact that she hadn't really wanted to talk to Damon, she was pissed that Klaus felt like he had the right to stop it. "What is wrong with you?"

Klaus hung the phone up before speaking to her. "You're not permitted to have any further contact with the Salvatores."

"Who the hell are you to decide who I speak to?" Elena asked angrily.

"I am your uncle," Klaus said sternly.

Elena let out a loud, bitter laugh. "Seriously? You of all people are going to play the uncle card with me?! Less than a week ago, your only interest in me was as a human blood bank! And now you think you can play the concerned relative? Screw you!"

Klaus took a step closer to her. "Listen carefully, Elena. Whether you like it or not, I am your family. You'll do as I saw."

Just then, Rebekah walked into the room, followed by Elijah, Kol, and Finn.

If Elena noticed the others come into the room, she didn't show it. Her focus was on Klaus. "Oh, really. You know what, you're right. Maybe I'm being hasty. After all, you and I have so many great memories together. I can't really decide what my favorite is though. Maybe it was the day you murdered me right after killing my aunt right in front of me. Or it could've been when you broke my childhood friend's neck so that you could use him as a test subject to make your hybrids. No, none of those are the right one. It must be when you compelled my boyfriend to shut off his humanity and drain me dry. Of course, that was just before you found out you needed me, so you stopped him before he could kill me. Don't come at me with this whole 'we're family' crap. You are nothing to me! No, actually, that's not true. I wish you were nothing to me. You are the monster that continues to haunt my life!" As soon as Elena finished speaking. The room began to shake slightly.

Rebekah immediately came over and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's alright. Go cool off, alright?"

Elena took several deep breaths to calm down. "I want my phone back."

Rebekah glared at her brother. "Give it to her, Nik."

Klaus reluctantly handed the phone over.

Elena snatched her phone back and stormed out of the room.

Rebekah rounded on her brother moments after her daughter left the room. "Are you satisfied? What were you thinking?!"

"She was on the phone with the elder Salvatore," Klaus said.

"I'm not deaf. My super hearing is just as good as yours, Nik. I know she was talking to him," Rebekah said. She had been listening. She was prepared to intervene if Elena became too upset.

"And you were just going to let her? I thought you agreed that she shouldn't have contact with the Salvatores," Klaus said.

"I do, but there was no need to rip the bloody phone from her ear. That only made the situation worse," Rebekah said.

"Rebekah is right, Niklaus. There were other ways to handle the situation. All you did was make a stressful situation even worse," Elijah said.

"For your information, I was going to speak to her once she hung up with Damon. I was going to calmly get her to see that her friendship with him only did her more damage. Barking orders at her isn't helpful, and it's especially not helpful coming from you, Nik. Did you really think it was going to end well? She can barely stand to be around you," Rebekah said. She didn't say it to hurt him, but it was a fact. Elena hated him. He'd given her good reason.

Klaus flinched a bit at his sister's words, but he quickly covered up any hurt that was visible. "I'm her uncle. She needs to learn some respect."

Kol laughed. "Respect? What have you ever done to deserve her respect?"

Rebekah nodded along with Kol. "Respect is earned, Nik. You have not earned anything with Elena. Not her respect, not her forgiveness. You haven't even tried to. You're essentially demanding it, and that will get you nowhere. I know you love her, but you can't show it the way you do with us. She's not like us. The only thing she has known from you is cruelty. You need to prove that that isn't all there is," Rebekah told him.

"I didn't know that she…"

"She doesn't care, Nik! She doesn't care that you didn't know who she was. It doesn't matter to her, and it shouldn't. It changes nothing! It doesn't erase the pain you caused her. Right now, the only thing she sees when she looks at you is the monster who took her life, and you've done nothing to show her that you can be anything else. If you ever hope to have a relationship with her, you need to change that," Rebekah said.

"How?" Klaus asked after a minute. He didn't want Elena to see him as a monster, but he didn't know how to stop it, and he tended to lash out when things didn't go his way. He got angry when Elena started going off on him. He knew he shouldn't have done that.

"An apology would probably go a long way, and not just for your actions tonight," Elijah said.

"Not barking orders at her would also help," Rebekah said.

"I…I didn't like the way the little bastard spoke to her," Klaus said.

"Neither did I, but you made the situation worse. You need to fix it, but not tonight. She needs to cool off and you need to figure out what you're going to say the next time you speak to her," Rebekah said.

Klaus didn't say anything else. He just gave a curt nod and left the room. Finn and Kol followed him out moments later.

Elijah approached his sister. "Niklaus didn't go about it the right way, but he's right about the Salvatores. At best, they have a very unhealthy influence one Elena. At worst, they are downright abusive with her."

Rebekah nodded. "I agree. As I said, I intend to speak with her about it, but not tonight. I think she's had all she can take. I doubt she'll try to speak with Damon again tonight. I'll talk with her tomorrow."

"Of course. You are her mother. You will do what you feel is best. However, I think I will have a word with the Salvatores soon. They clearly need a reminder of their place, particularly the elder Salvatore," Elijah said.

"Go nuts," Rebekah said with a smirk before leaving the room.
