Prologue

Sakura stood there, frozen. Granted, she knew something was going on, but why did he want to meet here? So far away? She took in the view. It was rather beautiful. The full moon was out, there was a decent size lake, with a waterfall at the other end, surrounded by trees. Thanks to the map coordinates he gave her at the daimyo dance that night, she figured it out. Sakura found a patch of grass in front of a tree, shielded by a thick patch of leaves on a branch above. She forgot to bring her warm robe, but quite frankly, she didn't care. She looked around, and saw some dry branches nearby, and thought that she had to put a fire together. She was about to walk.

"Please, don't." A male voice said. Sakura froze. She knew that voice all too well. She calmed down. She looked to her left and saw him.

"S … Sasuke …" Sakura muttered. It was him, in his Akatsuki robe.

You're probably wondering when all of this happened? Well, we need to go back five months

Chapter One: Who?

Team Yamato was given an assignment to head to the village hidden in the sky. There was a report about a couple of rogue ninjas murdering families on the West Coast. Naruto was paying attention to the direction he was going, Sai was reading, Yamato was on his guard, and Sakura was trying to remember fond memories of a comrade that she and Naruto knew, so long ago.. It was painful, to say the least, and she was trying to accept the fact that Sasuke was now a rogue ninja, but for some reason … there was something that couldn't be explained. She had a gut-wrenching feeling that she had to remember something important …

Or someone

She looked at Naruto and wondered the same thing. Did he remember something? She was about to ask when they were interrupted.

"Ok," Yamato began. "Let's take a 30-minute break."

"Fine by me!" Naruto exclaimed. They found a shaded place. After a moment, they heard a rumble. Sakura glared at Naruto.

"You forgot to pack food again, didn't you?" She asked, rather annoyed. Naruto looked at his old teammate, began scratching the back of his head out of embarrassment, and laughed.

"... Yeah." Naruto answered. She sighed and got up to her feet.

"I'll be back. I'm gonna go look for a lake and see if I can find anything." She offered, and walked off. She ventured deep into the forest, and looked around. There wasn't anything but trees. To be honest, she was getting lost, but she knew how to find her way back. She was about to turn left, but she heard a sound to the right. Being a kunoichi, and Tsunade's best student, it was her responsibility to see what it was. She picked up her pace, and went right. She was ready for anything, but what she found, froze her in her tracks.

A man was lying on the ground, gripping his right arm, which was bleeding fiercely, and saw that there was poison in the wound. But the person was someone she knew all too well. His raven black hair, the Akatsuki robe that was off the shoulders, his top the same, and he was on the verge of death.

'S … Sasuke …' She thought. She had reached into her pouch to call Naruto and the others for back up, but something stopped her. All of a sudden, she had a flashback.

A ten year old, with a tan brown cape on her left shoulder, a white bandage tube-top, upper right arm covered, tan brown baggy pants, long cobalt back hair, jade green eyes, and a leaf village headband, with a long, deep scratch on it.

"Mom"

Who was that kid? Why did the kid feel so familiar to her? She stood there, not knowing what to do. For some reason, she felt that the kid … was her responsibility … She put the com-link away, ran to him, got on her knees, removed his hand, and saw the wound. It was bad, and it was bleeding with a mixture of venom, as well. She placed her hands on the wound, and summoned her medical chakra.

'...Who …?' Sasuke thought. '... Is it Karin…?' He slowly opened his eyes, and saw his old teammate. "S … Sakura, … how …"

"Shut up!" She snapped. It shocked him. "I need to focus." There was a moment of silence, and for some reason, the both of them … wished it would last forever. But, why? He looked at his arm, and saw the wound healing. He also saw the poison being removed at the same time. He should move, attack, or something, but … he couldn't. There was something about her now that he didn't understand. He didn't realize a small blush on his face. Neither did Sakura, for she was more focused on the job at hand.

After ten minutes, the wound was completely healed. The medical chakra stopped. She grabbed her bag, stuffed her hand into it, moved it a little, and pulled out a bottle. She placed it next to him. "Here. This should dissolve the venom in your system. You need a day for it to work." She rose to her feet, and turned around. She was about to leave, when something caught her attention.

"... Sakura …" He began. She froze, staring off into the forest, not wanting to look back. "... How's Naruto …?" She was stunned. Did he just …?! Another moment of silence filled the air. Finally, she closed her eyes.

"Good." She said, "He's with Hinata." After that was said, she walked off. He watched her leave, and admired how much she changed. He looked at the bottle she left, and wondered if it was a good idea. Not wanting to risk anything, he slowly took the bottle, and drank the whole thing. For some reason, he felt like he could trust her. It was weird. Orochimaru taught him to trust no one. All of a sudden, he had a flashback.

A ten year old, with a tan brown cape on her left shoulder, white bandage tube-top, upper right arm covered, tan brown baggy pants, long cobalt back hair, jade green eyes, and a leaf village headband, with a long, deep scratch on it.

"Dad"

It shook Sasuke to the core. There was a time or two where he saw that kid, but he couldn't remember a name. And why did that kid say 'Dad'? Was there something he didn't know about? He didn't dare move. What was happening?

~oOo~

Sakura found her way back in the right direction, and couldn't stop thinking about Sasuke. Her heart was pounding, and she didn't know why. But, she was confused. He didn't attack or anything. Was he that badly injured? Did the venom cause an illness or something? So many questions were swirling in her mind.

"Mom"

That kid again! Who the hell was it?! It was driving her insane. She stopped, dead in her tracks, feeling guilty. She knew that she knew someone who was important, but it couldn't be figured out. Not knowing why, she began to shed tears. The feeling she had was killing her. She had to know who that kid was.

"Sakura!" Naruto's voice brought her out of thought and saw Naruto walking up to her. He was about to say something when he noticed her stained face. "You ok?"

"... Yeah," She began. "... I'm ok." Naruto could tell something was up but decided to let it go. Both walked in the same direction, heading to Yamato and Sai. There was a moment of silence. "... Naruto …?"

"What's up?" Naruto asked.

"... Do you, ... remember… someone …Important …?"

"What do you mean?"

"I can't put my finger on it, but … I think we know someone …" She trailed off. "Important to us …" Naruto was confused, to say the least.

"Where are you going with this?" She stared at the ground. She didn't know what to say.

"... Nothing." She said, shaking her head. "Forget about it." She then continued to walk. Naruto watched as she walked off. Now that she mentioned it, Naruto did have a gut feeling that there was someone he needed to remember. But, Naruto shrugged it off and continued walking. It was nightfall, and Naruto was the first to fall asleep. Normally, it was no big deal, but he had the weirdest dream ever. Or was it … a memory?

~oOo~

Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, at age 12, were running through a cave with two other kids. One had red hair, purple eyes with glasses, in a plain T shirt, and black pan other kid, ... was a ten year old girl with a bright tan shoulder cape on her left shoulder, white bandage tube-top, her right arm half covered, tan brown baggy pants, a damaged leaf village headband, cobalt black hair, very long, and jade green eyes. The cave was dark, but thankfully, there was enough light to see a cliff. Everyone stopped and saw a vicious river stream, going down the mountain, very fast.

"Rain, what are we gonna do?!" The kid with the glasses asked. All five of them turned around and saw a 55-foot snake heading their way. The snake was vicious and was looking for food. Finally, the girl turned to Sakura.

"Mom, can you swim?!" The kid asked.

"Of Course I can swim, if the occasion calls for it!" Sakura screamed.

"Trust me!" The kid hollered, pushing her off the cliff. "It calls for it!" Before she could say anything, she went into the frigid water. She then got behind Sasuke and did the same.

"Dad, you're next!" The kid screamed, pushing Sasuke into the water.

"Rain, what the hell?!" Naruto screamed. The kid then got behind Naruto.

"You're next, Sensei!" The kid screamed, pushing Naruto in. The other kids jumped in, as well. All five of them were being pushed by the current. If you have seen a movie called "The Goonies," there is a scene where they slide down the cave with water. Squad Seven screamed for dear life, the one with the glasses held his breath, as they tossed and turned in the current. The one with the cape was actually odd.

"Ahhh!" Sakura screamed.

"Shit!" Sasuke hollered.

"Rain!" Naruto hollered.

"Woah!" The kid with the glasses shouted.

"YAHOO!" The kid with the cape screamed, holding her arms in the air. All were soaking wet and sliding down the mountain, not knowing where they were gonna end up. After what felt like forever, Sakura was the first to land in a huge lake, screaming.

"WHAT THE-!" Sasuke hollered, not prepared to hit water.

"RAIN, YOU BRAT!" Naruto screamed as he entered the water.

"FUCK!" The kid with the glasses screamed. The one with the cape jumped in, but was curled up in a ball.

"COWABUNGA!" She screamed as she entered the water. It took them a moment, but all five kids emerged from the water, getting air and shaking their heads.

"Everyone ok?" The girl asked, as she and the others were trying to gain their breathing pattern. She looked at the cliff, and after a moment, began to giggle, followed by chuckling, then laughter.

"Rain, I'm gonna kill you!" Naruto screamed, looking at the girl with the cape, who continued to laugh.

"Learn to have fun once in a while!" She said, "You're only a kid, once!" She continued to laugh.

~oOo~

Naruto shot up, sweating, stricken with fear. He remembered. That mission without Kakashi Sensei, that snake … Those kids …

'...That kid …' He thought. 'She was … Important to me …' He couldn't get her out of his head. She was so identical to Sasuke and Sakura. A spitting image. 'to us …'

~oOo~

The next morning, they made it to their destination. They looked around and saw it was a busy town. Team Yamato went into the heart of the town, to try to figure out how to get these two individuals out into the open.

"So, how are we gonna do this, Captain Yamato?" Naruto asked. He was a bit grumpy, due to the fact that he had a hard time sleeping last night. Yamato looked around, noticing that the town wasn't that big, so he made a decision.

"Alright, we need to fan out!" Yamato said, catching everyone's attention. "Naruto, you take North, Sai, West, Sakura, East. I'll take South." All students nodded their heads in agreement and split up. So far, they found nothing out of the ordinary. Naruto went by a very expensive attire shop and saw a deep blue kimono with a golden dragon embroidered on it, with a golden belt with small dragons on it. It looked like it could fit a kid. He stared at it for a long time and saw that kid again. It would have looked beautiful on her.

'... That kid …' Naruto thought.

~oOo~

Sakura was walking East, looking for their target. The commotion was so loud that she could barely hear herself think. Her eyes were looking for anyone suspicious. She turned the corner and saw a bunch of bars and adult dance studios. She saw one and wondered why she felt like she had been to one, similar to it, before. She shrugged it off and continued to walk. It was odd. She felt like she was being followed. She looked ahead and saw someone that she didn't expect. She didn't want to start a commotion, so she continued to walk, pretending to not have noticed anything or anyone she wasn't expecting.

'What …What's Sasuke doing here?!' She thought. She kept her cool and continued to walk. Sasuke saw her and began walking towards her. Neither of them said a word or thought about hurting each other. As they got closer, he passed her, in his Akatsuki robe but slipped something into her hand. She stopped, turned to see him walking away. What the hell?! He was never like that. Even when they were a team back in the old days. She looked at her hand and saw a piece of paper, folded very small. She looked up and realized that he was gone. Out of impulse, she opened the paper. She looked at it. But, she didn't get it.

125 Degrees North, 35 Degrees West.

2 Weeks, come alone

Ok, now she was stumped. The coordinates were simple, but 2 weeks from now? She'd be on her way back home. How was she gonna fool Naruto and the others? None of this made any sense. She wondered why. But, out of the blue, there was a massive explosion. It drew her out of her trance, and she charged to the location of the hit. She jumped on top of the buildings and saw someone. They were rogue ninjas from the Hidden Mist Village. They noticed Sakura, and looked over her form.

"Well, well, well." One of them said, "Aren't you a gorgeous sight?" She glared at them. "... I wonder how your pussy tastes?"

"YOU CREEP!" She screamed, ready to attack. Talk about disgusting!

"You'll be the first before we kill you!" The other rogue ninja said as they jumped towards her. She dodged them, grabbed some kunai, and threw them. They dodged the kunais, and one appeared behind her.

"Got you!" He said, wrapping his arm around her waist. She used her elbow to nail him in the gut. She threw her head backward to hit his nose, turned, lifted her leg, and clocked him with her foot. She was rather proud of herself, but then, she had yet another flashback.

~oOo~

"Ok, Mom." The kid with the cape began. "If anyone tries to force himself on you, there's an easy way to take him down. Sensei, can you help me out, please?"

"Sure, Rain." Naruto said. He walked up next to her.

"Thank you." The kid said. "Ok, I need you to come up behind me and wrap your arms around my waist."

"Are you nuts?!" Naruto screamed. "Your father's right there! I can't do that!" He pointed at Sasuke.

"I'm not asking for an invitation. It's a self-defense lesson! Come on." The kid snapped. Sasuke was watching very intently. Finally, he wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Ok, when you are in a situation like this, and he's got a good grip, what you wanna do is take your elbow, jam it into the gut." The kid said, sticking her elbow at his stomach, but not strong enough to hurt him. "That will cause your attacker to pull back and try to recover from the impact. If he is still behind you, lift your head backward, and try to break his nose, that's even more painful." The kid then threw her head backward, careful not to break his nose. "Then, you turn around and try to lift your leg as high as you can," The kid turned around and lifted her left leg up. "Put a lot of weight and chakra into your leg and foot. Once you do that, lift the leg and pound your foot into the cheek." The kid lifted her leg and placed her foot on Naruto's cheek. She did make sure no weight or chakra was in it. "Wanna try?"

"... Yeah." Sakura said, walking up to Naruto. She stood there as the clone wrapped his arms around her waist. Sasuke was glaring at him.

"Remember, give it all you got, and don't hold back." The kid said, clapping her hands, three times. Naruto just stood there, feeling Sasuke's glare. "Sensei, you gotta be aggressive about this." After shaking for a moment, he pulled her close, and that's when she did what she was shown. She jammed her elbow into his gut, causing him to back up, ever so slightly, but he still had her. She then threw her head backward, hitting his nose. Then she quickly turned around, lifted her leg, putting her weight and chakra into it, and hitting him in the face. He went flying to a nearby tree.

"Nice!" The kid exclaimed, and began laughing. "That was really good." Poor Naruto. Sasuke smirked. Not bad, not bad at all. "Ok, can you show me how you make a fist?" Sakura was confused, to say the least, but did as so. The kid looked at it. "No, mom. You'll break your thumb like that." The kid walked up to her, took her fist, and moved her thumb. "Here, your fingers will protect your thumb, and try to use your knuckles to crack a bone. They're tougher than they look."

~oOo~

Sakura jumped away and got on her knees. Who the hell was she?! And why did she call her 'Mom'?! As she was thinking, she didn't realize that the other rogue ninja was behind her.

"You're mine, now!" He said. She turned her head, fearing the worst.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!" A familiar voice screamed. Naruto kicked him in the back, allowing her to jump. "Sakura, you ok?"

"Yeah!" Sakura shouted. She looked around, trying to find the other one. Sasuke was hiding in the trees, watching intently. After watching the self-defense trick she just did, it brought back the exact same memory. She jumped, put all of her chakra into her fist, making sure her thumb was underneath her fingers. She lunged to the ground and remembered the kid's voice again.

"Don't hold back!"

"CHA!" She exclaimed, fist hit the ground, causing boulders, extremely thick pieces of the earth to rise and be thrown away with ease. Sasuke was stunned. It shook him to the core. Where the hell did she learn that?! He watched as all the boulders went all over the place and scattered.

"Sai, NOW!" Yamato screamed, allowing Sai to use his art drawings to go underground and emerging with one of the rogue ninjas. Yamato saw the other ninja try to escape, and he ran after him and was able to catch the rogue ninja. As Sai was tying the rogue ninjas, Sakura looked at the sky. That voice … it meant everything to her, but why?

"Sakura?" Sakura looked at Naruto, with a confused look. "You haven't frozen like that in a long time. Are you sure you are ok?"

"Yeah," She said, with a smile. "Just … Remember something …"

"What was it?"

"I, ... I don't know." She said, heading back to the mission at hand. Naruto stood there, wondering what she meant. But, he was called and had to remember the topic at hand.

~oOo~

Sasuke watched as Naruto and his new team dealt with the rogue ninjas and decided to head to his destination. After a while, he stopped and watched the sun set. He found it rather soothing, for some reason. He then stuffed his hands into his pockets, out of impulse, but discovered something. He grabbed it and brought it to view.

'Where the hell did this come from?' Sasuke wondered. At that moment, he had a flashback.

~oOo~

"Rain said that she can't stop you, no one can, but if you're that serious …" Naruto walked up to him, pulled something out of his pocket, grabbed his hand, placed it, and closed it. "...Think wisely … She wouldn't want you or Sakura to suffer the way she had for seven years of her life." He was confused, to say the least. "... Knowing all of that … tears a person apart … something you can't walk away from, or try to put behind you, ... will make you suffer … More ways than you can think of." Naruto said, turned around and walked away. Sasuke stood there, wondering what he meant by that. He looked in his hand and saw what it was

~oOo~

Sasuke collapsed on the ground, shaking, his eyes small. It was at that moment when he realized. Their memories were erased. It all came back. He now knew who that kid was. The future he desperately wanted to protect. Protect her from Danzo, from her fear, her knowledge, her torture. He realized that she understood more than what she was supposed to. A wandering ninja, with no home, no friends …

No Family

He stayed in his position for so long. It was then that he realized that … he really did miss her … it was then that he realized … he wanted her back. He wanted to give her the best future possible. No loneliness, no darkness, no fear. That kid was truly a kid …

A Child to be Proud of

"Sasuke!" a voice shouted. Sasuke looked up to see his team, Taka running towards him. Karin was ahead of Suigetsu and Jugo. "What the hell happened?! We've been looking for you since yesterday!" Sasuke rose from the ground and tried to regain his composure, but it failed.

"You ok?" Suigetsu asked. "You look like you just saw a ghost." Sasuke looked away, trying not to be embarrassed.

"... Nothing." Sasuke muttered. Karin was even more confused when she saw something in his hand.

"Uh, Sasuke …?" Karin asked. "What's that in your hand?" She pointed to his hand. He gripped it fiercely so that no one got the wrong idea.

"Best not to ask too many questions." Jugo said. Karin glared at him. "Come on, Madara needs to see us." Jugo, Suigetsu, and Karin turned and went backward. Sasuke stood there, then began to walk. It was nightfall when they spotted a house that Sasuke knew all too well.

"Hey, an inn!" Suigetsu shrieked. "What are the odds!"

"A real bed would be nice for a change." Karin said. After that discussion, Taka entered the inn. At the inn was a lady, probably in her late 20s, doing something at the front desk. The lady looked up. She had long, natural curly brunette hair and jade green eyes, wearing a white Yukata.

"Oh, hi!" The lady said. "I normally don't get people here, so I have rooms available."

"Which way?" Karin asked.

"Up the stairs to the left." The lady said, pointing to her right. All but Sasuke climbed up the stairs. "It's been a while, little cousin."

"You doing ok, Shinni?" He asked.

"Eh, I guess I'm getting by." She said, with a smile. He smirked.

"Hey, uh … I need a favor."

"What's up?"

"Do you know anyone who knows how to make a dagger?"

"Yeah, what did you have in mind?" She asked. He didn't know what to say next. She was confused but finally understood what he meant. "You need to protect someone?"

"... Yeah." Sasuke said, a bit embarrassed.

"I need at least 5 months to get it done. Can you wait that long?" Sasuke smiled. He was about to head for the stairs but stopped.

"One more thing …" His comment caught her by surprise. Now, Sasuke was red in the face. "Know a good jeweler …?" She was stunned, to say the least. After a moment, she realized what he was asking. Her expression went from surprised to happiness.

"Have you thought this through?" A moment of silence filled the air.

"... For a long time …" He admitted. Shinni giggled.

"Got a photo?" He didn't move, unknowing what to do. Finally, he reached into his pocket and pulled out something. She rose from her desk, walked around it, and took it. She opened the photo to see a beautiful kunoichi.

"Tsunade's best student?" She asked. "You're playing one hell of a card." He didn't say anything, he just stood there, unable to move trying to hide his already scarlet red face. "Give me a week, I'll have something drawn up. Don't forget, I need a ring size, you know which finger." Sasuke, at that moment, decided to head for the stairs. She shook her head with a smile. "He's finally growing up."
