My Little Pony: Civil War
They are such spirited soldiers. From the sounds that one will hear from these griffons, one would not expect this to be an army camp. It is a pleasant sight to see soldiers go beyond the expectations. I am Sergeant Valiant Charge. I am the second-in-command under Captain Blue Belle. These Griffons are the '5th Cloudsdale' or the '1st Griffon Rifles'.
I am a Tulparian, just like Blue Belle. I am a richly-tanned mare with a milk chocolate mane and tail with brown eyes. My cutie mark is two crossed 'cuirassier' swords. Griffons have such a rich culture that very few ponies have ever seen. Since the formation of this unit, we have had not a single deserter, and these soldiers really look forward to battle.
As I walked through the camp to do some inspections, our little drummer-bird Gavin looked up to me. I stopped, and smiled warmly at him. Even a little griffon like him wants to do his part in the war. He looks smart in his drummer uniform. He smiled back as I ruffled the top of his head "Carry on" I said, my flanks wiggled as I felt a playful tap on them.
I turned to them "Alright, who did it?"
Gavin pointed to Grayling "Du verräter!"
"Colts will be colts...alright, I will let this go just this once, if you do it again, I will spank you with your own drumsticks, now run along" I warned the young drummer-birds. I smiled, and I shook my head lightly in disapproval as I saw Grayling given Gavin a bit for the dare. Blue Belle was sipping her cup of coffee and giggled "I admit, that was funny"
The air was thick with the smell of coffee, and bacon. The griffon-soldiers would often add bacon and honey to the coosh to make it taste better. I admit that army rations are not the very best. Some griffons call our hardtack biscuits 'beak-dullers'. They will often joke that if we run out of ammunition in battle that we'll throw the biscuits at the enemy.
Private Giselle, and Private Gunner were on sentry duty that evening. Their rifles were shoulders as they made their rounds around the camp, and looked out for any scouts or spies looking in on us. So far the evening has been quiet. It won't be long now until they get their first taste of battle. My saber rattled at my side as I went to see the Captain.
"You would make a good mother should you find yourself a special somepony" said Blue Belle and handed me a notice from General Forty-Five "we just received our first order, we leave for the front in two days, a force of Rebel forces had been spotted on the march in the Everfree Forest heading toward Ponyville" I nodded and I read the notice myself.
"Any reinforcements?" I asked, she was quiet
Within those two days, the griffons are ready and on the march toward Ponyville. Our enemy is Prince Blueblood. Unlike Princess Celestia and Princess Luna whom seek to form an Equestria into a kingdom where all species are seen as equals, Prince Blueblood wants Equestria to be a self-reliant monarchy where only ponies are allowed to live and thrive
Morning had arrived on the day we march to battle. Even as I wake up, I see the soldiers cleaning their weapons, and checking the sights on their rifles. From the way they look down the sight, I can see that they are ready to kill some Rebels. Once Blue Belle came out of her tent, I gave the order "We move out!" I commanded and the order got relayed
Before Blue Belle and I were assigned to his volunteer unit, the marches to the battlefield tended to be somber affairs. There was a quiet among the pony-soldiers because they knew they were going to die. The drummer-ponies played their drums to the march. With the griffons, it is different. They even sang as they marched to a song in their language
