My Little Pony: Civil War
The songs fell silent as we heard sound of battle in the distance. We emerged from the trails of the Everfree Forest. I could hear the 'rebel yell' of the Separatist ponies as the 22nd Baltimare and 12th Canterlot Regiments took a beating. Puffs of white smoke and the smell of gunpowder lingered in the springtime air, "Make ready!" called out Blue Belle
Our Griffons loaded the cylinders of the rifles with six shots. They had their bayonets ready. I unsheathed my saber with magic as did Blue Belle. The artillery ponies are the prime targets, "Take aim!" I called out with Blue Belle as we emerged from the Everfree. The objective is an ambush attack, and not give the Rebels time to turn their cannons on us.
As they were reloading, now was our chance, "Fire!" we called out with a downward slash of our sabers. The Rebel ponies were taken completely by surprise, and were cut down like fresh timbers to an axe, "Advance in walking fire!" we called out as our soldiers, that means the soldier will fire at will in six shots before a push forward in a bayonet charge
These captured Parrott Rifles will prove useful. I looked back at the griffon-soldiers, and I smiled back at them. It was time, "Hold!" Blue Belle and I roared out as we pointed our sabers at the Rebels, and we held our ground. A few Rebel-Ponies heard us charging behind them, and returned fire. A couple of our brave griffons fell, but it wasn't enough
A few of our Griffons stopped in mid-charge to take shots at the Rebel artillery-ponies before joining back in to charge the lines. Their bodies fell forward, and slumped over the barrels of the guns with a bloody red spot to show where the bullet hit it's mark. The Rebel-Ponies did not have enough time to turn the cannons on us. Just as we had planned.
We leaped, and flew over the ramparts in front of the cannons, "Load!" Blue Belle called out and the Griffons were reloading their six-shot rifles in mid-flight, "hold positions!" she ordered, and raised the blade of her sword, "take aim!" she bellowed, and I slashed her saber downward to give the order, "fire!" puffs of white smoke came from the barrels.
We led our Griffons from the front. The Rebel-Ponies had little time to look. We can see shock and awe in their eyes, and expressions as they had no time to prepare for our ambush, let alone expect to be attacked by Griffons of all non-ponies. Most of the Rebels were shot in the back. They're likely thinking it's friendly fire amid the chaos "bayonets!"
"Griffons! Charge!"
The Griffons yelled their battle-cries and charged on swift wings. Blue Belle and I galloped our fastest, and smashed into the Rebels from the rear. I would shoot, and slash any pony in a grey uniform. Those Rebel-Ponies got ran through by the steel of one hundred bayonets, or smacked across the face with a rifle, "Press forward!" I roared amid battle.
Bayonet crossed with bayonet, and the sounds of rifle fire and the screams of the dead and dying filled the air. Young Griffons like Gabby, Gretchen, and Glenda got their baptism by fire, and notching their first kills as soldiers in the Royal Equestrian Army by the bullet and the bayonet. Gabby yelled her battle-cry, and ran her bayonet into an enemy pony.
In a full gallop and if you slash a pony in the right spot on the neck with the right amount of force, you can take a pony's a head clean off. I did just that to an officer that tasted my blade. I used my saber to cut down, or stab any Rebel in grey that got in my way. I even slashed through the wood and steel of a rifle to cleave cleanly a skull in two halves.
The Rebel-Ponies did have time to regroup, and shoot back. A few of our Griffons fell to the rifle fire, only for their comrades in blue to shoot right back. The Ponies of the 22nd Baltimare and 12th Canterlot fixed bayonets, seeing no other option since they're out of ammunition, and they too charged into the fray. This was the push we needed to victory.
A rebel-mare screamed as I slashed her across the face, and she was holding back the bleeding from her eye. I was out of rounds for my revolver so I holstered it, and kept up the fight with my sword. This will be one of the many 'finest hours' of the Griffons as I hear the cheers of relief from the Soldier-Ponies of the 22nd Baltimare and 12th Canterlot.
"They're galloping!" I called out, the Rebel numbers had dwindled. Our charge had wiped them out to a small handful. Private Gilda and Private Galena took a few shots and hit the marks on the backs between the wings of two Pegasi. That's called 'wing-clipping' among the Griffons. The bodies of two retreating Rebels were muzzle-down in a meadows.
I saw those Separatists galloping like rabbits off the field back to their own encampments. At the captured artillery pieces, our Griffons met the Pony-Regulars. Their officers in command were Captain Blackjack and Captain Flash Blade. They were mares of our size, "If it weren't for your reinforcements, Ponyville would have fallen into the Rebel hooves"
"You have our utmost thanks, our ammunition was almost out," said Blackjack, we hugged as we Tulparian Mares do amid the cheers of the Ponies and Griffons. It goes to show Griffons and Ponies can work together. We pulled the Parrott Rifles into positions to bolster up the defenses, and dug trenches to help secure the village and keep the Ponies safe
