(Court Hearing)
A few days later, they had gone to the court hearing. The ones who had to testify were Cherry, Randy, Ponyboy, and Bexley.
Darry and Soda sat behind Ponyboy and Bexley. Darry gave them a wink and a grin.
"They chased us... caught us and they threw me in the fountain and tried to drown me. They beat up my sister and were gonna beat up Johnny Cade," Ponyboy said during his testimony.
"I watched them trying to drown Ponyboy. I was scared to death that he wouldn't wake up," Bexley said during her testimony.
"It was Bob and I... we were gonna teach them a lesson," Randy said during his.
"I could've made it simpler for the fight to not have happened in the first place," Cherry clarified.
This went on for another hour or two.
They questioned each witness about two times. Dally had been brought up, and the judge and jury were told that Dallas Winston was the realest character of their gang and he had his reasons for doing what he did.
After a while of this, there was silence.
"Defendant not guilty. At this time I will place him in the custody of his older brother, Darryl," the judge announced, relieving all the tension.
Darry, Soda, and Bexley couldn't stop smiling when they heard this.
"This court is adjourned," the judge announced.
"Stay Gold!" they four siblings exclaimed, and they hugged each other tightly, happy that they would be able to stay together.
(A Little While After)
Needless to say, things hadn't gone back to the way they should be.
Nightmares have been waking up Ponyboy almost every night.
Bexley's appetite seemed to vanish within a blink of an eye, and it made her feel dizzy. Usually, she had the appetite of a wild animal much like Soda did.
When they went back to school, their grades were dropping also.
Bexley had considered dropping out like Soda. If she wasn't doing good then what would be the point in staying in school?
As for Ponyboy, he had met up with his english teacher who had noticed that he wasn't doing well in that class.
After a bit of compromising, his teacher agreed to pass him with a C if he came up with a good semester theme.
