Chapter 13 Care packages, questioning and the chase
Author's notes I do not own Marvel just the idea for this fic which is set in an AU Along with my OC's Jack and Graham Williams and others who might show up in this fic in future chapters like The Serpent. Also, some characters will be OOC in this story.
In response to HexcodeFAAB34's comments: At the end of the day, it is my fanfic, plus SHIELD are going after HYDRA, who are not exactly nice people at the end of the day, who have done a lot of crimes in the MCU and in this AU fic also, as the last chapter showed.
Some might call what happens to them, justice.
In regards to your other point, unlike other pro-Accords fic, I am not falling into the trap where Captain America is portrayed as insane, delusional or a sexist, I did not need to go that route for the story to be Pro-Accords. Steve Rogers I find in the MCU is at times, arrogant and very naïve.
Now onto Salamander: I share your frustrations with these damn scammers who flood my fic with reviews trying to scam me offering to do artwork of my stories. It is honestly driving me insane, they need to make it, so registered reviews like that can be deleted by writers of the stories.
I ask these damn scammers to stop spamming fake reviews on my fic.
As I worry people will see those scamming comments and end up falling for it.
Well, that is enough of an author's notes, on with chapter 13.
SHIELD Blacksite
Several vehicles pulled up outside the SHIELD facility where Agent James was waiting to receive the transfer.
SHIELD agents on assignment in Germany, coordinating efforts with the German authorities against HYDRA had gotten a little care package from their friends in the CIA.
A HYDRA scientist who was caught in a raid on a terror cell, something SHIELD might find useful in the war against HYDRA.
The agent in charge of the transfer, Ursula the head of their European branch said to Agent James "His name is Dr Carlos. I read his file that the CIA had on him on the flight here from Germany, the man is a monster."
James looked at the man, with a black hood over his head and signed the transfer papers, before some agents from Team Hunter took the HYDRA scientist into custody and into the blacksite facility.
Dr Carlos had questions that needed to be answered.
Meanwhile at SHIELD HQ, Director Coulson was barking out orders to agents, the info coming from their allies in Wakanda about what they found at the HYDRA base in Kenya, the Rogue Avengers being there, a lot of agents in intelligence and in elsewhere were being screened to find out if anyone in the organization had become a traitor.
Director Coulson hoped this was not the case, but he had to be sure, if someone in SHIELD was a traitor, that person was going to pay.
A trap was set if there was a spy, new intel about a HYDRA base in South Africa, acquired from interrogation of a HYDRA prisoner in custody, if anyone outside of Team Hunter and those cleared to know, accessed it, or tried to, that was the spy.
In only 3 hours, the trap worked, someone did access the file, a SHIELD agent who worked in the tech division, Agent Cameron Klein, who previously worked on Project Insight and was by Fury's side on the Helicarrier when the battle of Sokovia happened.
The current whereabouts of Agent Cameron Klein were found, he was still in the building on a lower level and other agents were ordered to arrest him and to take him to where Team Hunter was at a blacksite, any info this traitor had, they would get it out of him.
SHIELD Research Base
Dr Hank Pym looked at the completed ship and Bill Foster was running last minute checks to make sure it would survive this trip to try and rescue Janet, if she was indeed still alive there.
Also in the room was Ava Starr, she was hoping that what Hank and Bill were doing, would be able to save her life.
Bill wished his old friend good luck, as Hank left to enter the Quantum Realm, the wait was a half hour or so, before Hank returned, with Janet in tow.
Bill was happy to see Janet was back and without a word, Janet walked over to Ava and to the shock of both Bill and Ava, Janet held Ava and suddenly Janet's hands began to glow and Ava felt things beginning to change, she was near tears as the pain she had been in for so long was finally gone.
Janet said with a small smile on her face "That should help."
Ava thanked Janet as did Bill and they left, giving Hank and Janet a chance to catch up, that was long, long overdue.
New York City
Thor was meeting with representatives from both the Irish and Norwegian governments, accompanied by Dr Jane Foster and Erik Selvig, both countries were offering land for the refugees to live on, the offers being made were fair, land on the coasts of both nations. All both nations wanted was a fair price for the land offered first, both countries offering the land at a reduced price, for Thor's past actions helping save Earth and each nation wanted a commitment from New Asgard to help with defence if the nation giving up the land was ever attacked by another nation.
Thor just appreciated the offers he was given and talked privately to both Jane and Erik about what he should do, wanting their advice. He was new to the role of being King and in a situation no other king had been in for a long time in the history of Asgard. Plus, they both knew about Earth then he did.
The offers being made were generous, but the refugees might not have the funds to pay, though the ship they had arrived to Earth on, the Statesman, that could be sold to SHIELD for the money necessary, he was sure they would pay a lot for the ship.
When Thor suggested that Jane liked the idea and contacted Sif, to see if a meeting could be set up with Director Coulson for later that day, the request was quickly granted.
The meeting went well, as soon as Thor made the offer to sell the ship the Statesman, Coulson just said "Name your price and SHIELD will gladly pay it."
Thor went to talk to his advisors among the refugees, including Heimdall and Loki about which of the two offers to accept, they agreed with Thor that offers were indeed very generous, not surprising considering Thor's past heroics in regards to Earth.
They talked for a few hours, before it was decided to accept the offer from the Irish government and the sale of the Statesman ship to SHIELD for twice the original price for the land, 1 billion Euro, was done.
Now the process of the refugees moving to their new homes were to begin, Tony Stark already had the Stark Relief Foundation ready to assist with the housing of the refugees in their new home and SHIELD has Quinjets ready to help with the move to Ireland.
Thor was happy, his people now had a new home on Earth, it would be an adjustment for them and for the people in Ireland and the entire planet, but he knew with the intolerant, hateful Watchdogs dealt with, things would be good.
Thor thought to himself 'Be even better once HYDRA is wiped out once and for all.' He had seen with others what HYDRA did elsewhere in the world in their recent attacks, it would only be a matter of time, before they were brought to justice as well.
SHIELD Blacksite
Jack Williams watched as the HYDRA member was brought into the room and sat down, the black hood was removed from his head, as the scientist looked around and saw several men and women surrounding him asking "What is this?"
Jack walked over and said "Dr Carlos. We know you are working for HYDRA. Your name was mentioned in files we found relating to something called Project Resurgence. Tell us what you know and I will let you live."
Doctor Carlos spat in Jacks face and said with a smirk "I do not know anything about that. You SHIELD fools are barking up the wrong tree. Kill me, you know I am part of HYDRA and no doubt know how many I have killed if you found files with my name showing up."
Jack remarked "I will not do it myself. But I will introduce you to those who would love to do it for me."
One man stepped forward as Jack said "This is Robert. HYDRA operatives kidnapped and murdered his teenage daughter, because she was an inhuman."
Another man with scars on his face stepped forward "This is Ben, a HYDRA assassin tried to firebomb him in his home, scarred him in the process. All they did was make him angry."
A woman hanging back stepped forward as Jack said "This is Helen. Hydra members killed her brother and father when they refused to betray SHIELD and join HYDRA when they revealed themselves."
Doctor Carlos said "That has nothing to do with me."
Jack shook his head and said "No? If you support evil, you are evil. Look at them, look at their faces. A few of the people hurt by HYDRA's evil in this world. Tell me doctor, have you ever felt the swift vengeance of justice? Tell me about Project Resurgence… Or I will let these SHIELD agents show that vengeance with their fists."
Doctor Carlos looked at the SHIELD agents and said "Do it, you SHIELD wimps."
Jack then said "Very well. We will see how you feel after 10 minutes. Do it."
Jack stood up and walked away as his agents proceeded to beat the HYDRA scientist with their fists as he watched on, alongside Black Widow who was nearby not saying a word.
Once the ten minutes were up, Jack went over to the bloody scientist, and asked "Tell me what I want to know. What is HYDRA planning?"
Carlos coughed up blood before he said "I am no traitor. Hail Hydra!"
The scientist then laughed as he yelled "You, you are all going to die like SHIELD will! You are all fucking dead! You, your families are all dead you fucking SHIELD scum! You are all fucking dead."
An hour later, Doctor Carlos was dead, beaten to death as Jack told Agent James "Dump the body on the road to New York. Report he died in a shoot-out with our agents, put it down that he fired first."
James pointed out "He's all beaten up sir."
Jack took out his pistol and opened fire into the body 10 times before asking "That work for you?" before he left the room.
Jack took a deep breath and got a message on his phone, the traitor to SHIELD, Cameron Klein was on his way to the blacksite shortly and Jack looked forward to demanding answers, wanting to know why this agent became a traitor to SHIELD and everything they stood for.
People like him were among the lowest of the low.
Madripoor
Several CIA agents arrived at the private lab that belonged to Dr Wilfred Nagel, orders came from high up, the doctor was to be taken into protective custody and transferred to SHIELD as soon as possible.
As the agents entered the lab, they found signs of a struggle and blood on the floor, but no sign of Dr Wilfred Nagel, or the body. A lot of computer hard drives were also missing and files burned.
The lead agent cursed at being beaten here and ordered the others to look around, as he went outside to contact Deputy Director Valentina personally and give her a progress report, as he left the lab, the place was engulfed in a fiery explosion. Killing all those agents still in the lab.
Whoever took Dr Wilfred was going out of their way to lead no trail back to them.
Near the lab, someone saw the explosion and made a call on a burner phone saying "No more prying eyes."
The Serpent smiled at the news saying "Good work."
He hung up the phone and looked at Dr Wilfred was sitting down, shaking in fear, as the man said "Welcome to HYDRA. Now Dr Wilfred, you will be working under Dr Robert Charles. I want you to share with him everything you know about the Super Soldier serum. Do that and you will be alright. Refuse and you will share what you know anyway, after a lot of pain."
Dr Wilfred was led to the lab by Dr Robert Charles and several guards as The Serpent asked for a progress report from the teams out on special assignment, the mission was of great importance to HYDRA.
So far, everything was going well, it would only be a matter of time and The Serpent was a very patient man. He headed to his office and smiled as his pet cat, Mr Whiskers was sleeping on his desk, he went over and petted his cat.
His wife loved cats and this cat was a source of comfort as Serpent started to stress, wondering if she would ever wake up from her coma.
If she never did, Serpent vowed, the world would burn for it.
SHIELD Blacksite
Cameron Klein was marched into an interrogation room by Jack Williams and shoved into a chair, as Natasha Romanoff knocked down a camera.
Cameron was looking down shaking in fear as Jack Williams looked at him saying "You know, you're possibly looking at a Death Penalty sentence for treason for this right?"
Cameron was still looking down as Jack yelled "Look at me you little prick!"
Cameron said "Please. I have a family!"
Natasha then spoke up "So do a lot of SHIELD agents out there. A lot of them, do not, do what you did, pass on intel about HYDRA to international fugitives from justice."
Jack asked "Why did you do it. What made you become a traitor to our organization? If you do not tell us then we cannot help you, you will never see your family again. Cooperate and maybe we can get you a prison sentence that sees you getting out of prison before you are an old man."
Cameron replied "Because Captain America is still a hero. He exposed HYDRA in our organization. Where were you when HYDRA came out of the shadows and into the light Agent Williams and tried to take over SHIELD?"
Jack answered "Going after HYDRA members who tried to kill my father in their attempt to grab power. You were there when SHIELD fell apart. You have this misguided view that Captain America is right to do what he is doing, thinking he can go around, putting innocent people at risk, defying world governments and the will of the people."
Natasha said "We know, you accessed the file planted on intel in regards to HYDRA bases in Africa, the Rogue Avengers were at one HYDRA base, did you pass on anymore intel to them and how did you do it?"
Cameron was silent as Jack said "If you do not tell us what we need to know. Next interview will be more of SHIELD, maybe Director Coulson himself. Then the CIA might want a word with you after what happened to their agents a little while ago in Madripoor, they were killed by HYDRA in a bombing. The whole alphabet soup of agencies will be looking into you. Your whole life will be turned upside down and ruined. The only way you might get some mercy, is to cooperate with us."
Cameron looked up at Jack and said "I was sent an email through a source, gave me some good intel in the past on black market arms dealers, gave information on HYDRA bases in Africa and I was looking for where Steve Rogers might be, I had some low-level contacts, one of them told me of a hotel where he and the Rogue Avengers were at in Kenya. I called them, gave them the info. He is a hero; I did the right thing."
Jack got up and roared "He is no hero! He destroyed SHIELD, to take down HYDRA! Got a lot of good agents killed, when he had that info put up online, thankfully. Agent Romanoff was smarter than him, she alerted Stark before they took down Pierce and HYDRA, he was able to save lives, sadly he could not save everyone who that info being leaked put at risk. We lost deep cover operatives, agents lost families, that is all on Steve Roger's head. In his arrogant short sighted, naïve idea, take down SHIELD, HYDRA would fall as well. That did not work, HYDRA was still around, while we were crippled, unable to properly fight back against our enemies. Your no better then those HYDRA filth who infiltrated SHIELD all those years. You are a traitor!"
Jack took a deep breath to calm his nerves as Natasha sat down and said "Give us the name of your contact and the hotel you called and we're tell the Director you cooperated."
Cameron nodded and told her all she wanted to know and more, writing it all down. Natasha and Jack went to leave the room as Cameron asked "What happens now?"
Natasha replied "You will remain here. Once we confirm if the intel is legit or not. You will be handed over to the CIA, they want a word with you. Director Coulson signed off on it. You are a disgrace to SHIELD and all we stand for."
Cameron was left alone, with his thoughts, he was paying the price for his treason against the organization he once served.
The info on other HYDRA bases in Africa was investigated, one of them, was where the Rogue Avengers had been, two other bases were on the list, one in South Africa, the other was in Uganda, a 50/50 chance on them, guessing where the Rogue Avengers were going next. Teams would be sent to both, hopefully one of them would be there to take them into custody, deal with the HYDRA members also there, if they were still alive.
The info was also passed onto Tony Stark and the Avengers with him, Vision, and Thor, along with their allies the Guardians of the Galaxy, who were now on their way to Africa, to help with the search, getting full approval form the Accords panel as well as the African Union, who held an emergency vote on this matter, to head there.
HYDRA was after all, a threat to the peace and the security of the world, plus the Rouge Avengers, needed to be dealt with, at least those who did not already have deals or were people on the inside for SHIELD, like Wanda Maximoff and Clint Barton.
The strike team from Wakanda who were already at the HYDRA base in Kenya contacted SHIELD, they found some intel in the search to pass on, an arrow left in the office of the man who ran this HYDRA base, on it was only 1 word, Uganda.
It is where the Rogue Avengers were going next, Clint was smart to leave that for them. With that the info was passed onto the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The net was closing in on Steve Rogers and he did not even know it.
SHIELD Safehouse
Isaiah Bradley and his grandson Eli were led into the building by a member of Team Hunter named Agent Peters who said "You will be completely safe here. We have some of the best SHIELD has to offer here for protection I assure you."
Isaiah and Eli had to hand over their mobile phones, for security, as they were introduced to others who were here, the SHIELD agent and Inhuman, Daisy Johnson, aka Quake, who was leading the protection of this facility.
Isaiah shook her hand, as Eli talked about how a lot of friends thought Quake was a real badass, for her past heroics, going after HYDRA and the Watchdogs.
Isaiah smiled as his grandson was taking all of this in stride, he was pulled out of his thoughts, as another woman came up to him and introduced herself, her name was Laura Barton and she was here with her children, Cooper, Lila, and Nathaniel.
Her husband was on some classified mission for SIHELD, so they were here for protection, SHIELD looked after their own.
Lila and Cooper introduced themselves to Eli and before long, they were all playing games on the nearby Xbox Console with young Nathaniel, all getting along, like other friends.
Laura and Isaiah talked among themselves over coffee as Daisy Johnson made sure the perimeter was secure, and agent Peters left the safe house, heading back to rejoin Team Hunter.
Several hours later Uganda
The mood on the Benatar was serious as the Guardians of the Galaxy, along with Tony Stark, Vision and Thor were heading to this HYDRA base, followed by a SHIELD Quinjet, containing a SHIELD strike team.
The stealth systems on both ships were engaged, they would be undetectable to HYDRA as they approached the base.
The ships landed nearby and the SHIELD team, secured the perimeter as Tony Stark used his tech to see if any in HYDRA were patrolling the base, it seemed no one was.
The Guardians of the Galaxy suggested, Gamora and Nebula infiltrate the base, so they would know how much opposition was in there, Tony, the Avengers and the SHIELD team liked the idea.
Working together the two sisters got into the base and after a few minutes, Nebula reported "Get in here now!"
Tony fired missiles at the entrance to the base as the group entered, they saw why Nebula and Gamora had seen, HYDRA members were dead, killed in a hail of gunfire, the group spread out through the base, to see if anyone was alive and if anything was on CCTV security about what happened here.
Thor reported in that they found something Tony needed to see.
He headed to a room where Thor and SHIELD agents had found, knocked out, but alive and unharmed were Clint Barton, Wanda Maximoff and Sam Wilson.
There was no sign of Steve Rogers anywhere, Tony and everyone else had one thought 'What the hell was going on?'
Smelling salts were used to wake up Clint, Wanda and Sam, Sam was arrested by SHIELD agents, while Tony asked Clint and Wanda what happened.
Clint said "Knockout gas, happened after we got in here, HYDRA members were waiting in gas masks, from what I saw before I was knocked out, the HYDRA members had killed the others. Looks like members of HYDRA are turning on each other."
Wanda spoke up "Some HYDRA cells had rivalries with one another. Maybe that is what this was, but why leave us here and just take Steve with them. What do they want with him?"
Tony was silent, wondering what was HYDRA up to.
HYDRA HQ
The Serpent was running through corridors, yelling at agents to get out of his way, or die. They obeyed out of sheer fear, as their boss headed to the medical room and was on the verge of crying tears of joy, when he saw what was in front of him in the room.
His wife, Madame Hydra, the woman he loved, was awake from her coma.
Ophelia smiled seeing her husband and the two of them hugged and kissed, having their reunion, before things got serious as Ophelia asked for a status report on HYDRA.
The Serpent was about to tell her everything that was going on, when he got a text message on his phone, it was from the teams out on special assignment, the text said only six words 'We got him. Heading back now.'
The Serpent smiled and said "Things for HYDRA my love are now looking up. I have a gift for you. It will be arriving shortly. I am sure you will like it."
Ophelia smiled as her husband came back with Mr Whiskers, to make her even happier.
Serpent was now having the best day of his life, his wife was awake and HYDRA had captured, Steve Rogers, the famous Captain America.
