The Nightmare begins chapter 1

The snarls were getting louder. The pack was relentless, their unnatural speed and hunger closing the gap with every second. Mondo, Rockna, Kahimi, and Beginner sprinted through the dense forest, their breaths ragged. They darted between trees, desperate to shake the strange creatures that had ambushed them.

"Over there!" Rockna shouted, pointing ahead. A shadowy structure loomed in the distance—tall, ominous, yet strangely inviting in their moment of terror. A mansion.

With no better options, the group made a break for the building. The creatures were on their heels as Mondo reached the door, shoving it open with all his strength. The group stumbled inside just as the sound of claws scraped against the threshold. Mondo and Beginner slammed the heavy door shut, barring it with everything they could find.

For a moment, silence. The growls faded outside, leaving only the sound of their labored breathing.

"What… what were those things?" Kahimi gasped, clutching her staff tightly. Her elven features, usually serene, were drawn with fear.

Before anyone could answer, the sound of footsteps echoed from the grand staircase ahead. The group froze as figures emerged from the shadows: four humans, each armed and on high alert. Their weapons were drawn, their eyes scanning the intruders.

Chris Redfield was the first to lower his gun, his expression shifting from suspicion to bewilderment. "Kids?" he muttered, his gaze lingering on Kahimi. "What the… are you—what are you?"

Kahimi blinked, taken aback. "I'm… an elf. Who are you?"

"An elf?" Jill Valentine echoed, her voice sharp with disbelief. "Where did you come from?"

The S.T.A.R.S. team exchanged uneasy glances as Barry Burton stepped forward. "Name's Barry," he said, his gruff voice softer than usual. "And you all look like you've been through hell. What happened out there?"

Mondo stepped forward, his usual confidence faltering. "We—we were attacked by these creatures. They looked like dogs, but they weren't… normal. We barely made it."

Chris's grip tightened on his weapon. "Zombie dogs," he said grimly, his tone suggesting familiarity. "Then you've seen what's out there. This mansion isn't much safer, but for now, you're sticking with us."

Wesker, silent until now, adjusted his sunglasses and smiled faintly. "We can protect you… for the moment. But don't wander off. You don't know what you're dealing with."

The Knights and their new companions had no idea what awaited them within the mansion's walls. But the unease in the S.T.A.R.S. team's eyes hinted that this was only the beginning of a much darker nightmare.

The tension in the air was palpable as the S.T.A.R.S. team finished explaining who they were. Chris leaned against a nearby pillar, his sharp gaze never leaving the peculiar group of young travelers.

"You're saying this… this is the Monster World?" Barry asked, his skepticism thick in his voice. "I've seen some strange stuff, but an elf? And… magic?"

Kahimi folded her arms, her expression calm yet firm. "Yes, this is Mon World, where monsters and other beings like myself live. You're not in your world anymore."

Jill crossed her arms. "And you expect us to just believe that?"

"It's the truth!" Mondo said, exasperation creeping into his voice. "Kahimi, show them."

Kahimi hesitated for a moment, then raised her staff. With a flick of her wrist, a small orb of light materialized in the air, illuminating the shadowy room. The light floated between them, flickering like a firefly before extinguishing. The room fell silent, the disbelief etched on the faces of the S.T.A.R.S. team giving way to stunned silence.

"Well, I'll be damned…" Barry muttered, running a hand through his graying hair.

Before anyone could say more, the distant sound of gunfire erupted, sharp and echoing through the mansion's halls. Chris straightened immediately, gripping his weapon tighter. "That came from the next room."

He glanced at Mondo and Kahimi. "You two. You're coming with me. If what she just did works on those things, we might need her help."

"Hey, hold on—" Rockna began, but Jill interrupted. "Barry and I will go too," she said, giving Rockna a reassuring glance. "You and Beginner stay here. And stick close to Wesker."

Rockna and Beginner exchanged glances, their cheeks reddening slightly as they glanced at Wesker, who stood silently at the back of the room. "We don't mind staying with him…" Rockna murmured, trying to suppress a smile. Mondo rolled his eyes. "Oh, brother."

The group moved cautiously down the hall, the atmosphere growing colder as they approached the dining room. The room was eerily quiet as they entered, their footsteps echoing off the high ceilings. Barry was the first to notice something.

"Blood," he said grimly, crouching near a small pool on the floor. His expression darkened as he examined it. "It's fresh. Spread out and see if you can find anything else."

While Barry scrutinized the blood, Kahimi and Mondo cautiously stepped into an adjoining room. The dim lighting barely illuminated the shadowy corridor, and the air was thick with an unplaceable stench.

"What is that smell?" Kahimi whispered, her fingers tightening around her staff.

Before Mondo could answer, a faint noise drew their attention. A low, wet sound—like something being dragged. They turned a corner and froze.

A man lay slumped on the floor, blood pooling around him. His head was bowed, his shoulders rising and falling in slow, jerking movements. For a brief moment, Kahimi took a step forward. "Sir, are you alri—"

The man turned. His pale, decaying face was smeared with blood, and his milky, lifeless eyes fixed on them with chilling hunger. Kahimi's breath caught in her throat as Mondo grabbed her arm.

"We need to go. Now."

The man—no, the creature—rose, its movements unnaturally stiff yet disturbingly purposeful. As it advanced, they bolted back into the dining room, the sound of shuffling feet and guttural groans following them.

Chris, Jill, and Barry turned as Mondo and Kahimi burst in, panic etched across their faces. "It's—there's something in there!" Mondo shouted, pointing behind them.

The creature lumbered into view; its rotting form illuminated by the dining room's flickering chandelier. Without hesitation, Chris raised his weapon. "Get down!" he barked.

The sound of gunfire erupted as Chris, Jill, and Barry unloaded their weapons into the advancing corpse. It stumbled and fell, only to rise again. Another volley of bullets finally brought it down, the creature collapsing into an unmoving heap.

For a moment, no one spoke. Then Chris stepped forward, nudging the body with his boot. His expression was grim. "What is this thing?"

Mondo shook his head, his voice trembling. "We found a man in there… dead. I-I think this might've been him."

Barry knelt beside the body, his face darkening as he examined it closely. "Oh no…" he murmured, his voice heavy with recognition. "This is Kenneth. He was one of ours."

The weight of his words sank in as the group exchanged horrified glances. Jill broke the silence. "We need to tell Wesker."

"Yeah," Chris said, his jaw tightening. "And we need to figure out what the hell is going on here fast."
