I moaned as my eyes slowly opened. I jumped back as Scorbunny's face was almost pressed against mine. I looked around. The fog had cleared and someone handed me a bottle of water. I took and saw David shaking his head.
"You two are impossible." He said. "You know no-one is allowed here."
"We came in looking for a Wooloo." I explained.
He pointed behind himself. "That Wooloo?"
I looked and saw his Inteleon pointing at the Wooloo like it was telling it off. "That's the one. Where's Louis?"
"He's with Blissey and Charizard at the entrance. He was already awake when I found you two." He answered, pulling me to my feet.
"How did you find us?" I asked.
"When your mum realised you left your phone she called me, thinking you'd come here." He answered.
As we finally left the Slumbering Weald, I suddenly remembered the creatures. I turned around and looked back. "What is it?"
"Before we fell asleep, there were two… Pokémon I guess?" I said.
"You guess?"
"I haven't seen anything like them." I told him. "Neither Scorbunny or Sobble could touch them. Their attacks just went straight through them like they were ghosts."
"Were they Ghost Pokémon?"
"I don't think so." I shook my head. "Scorbunny used Ember and Sobble used Bubble. Even if they were Ghost-Type, it would have done something."
"He didn't believe me either." Louis added.
David nodded. "But I know one thing. Whatever you saw was real. You both told me the same story. Even though you seemed to face different Pokémon."
"Whatever they were, they were invincible." Louis said.
"Forget them for now." David instructed. "Get home and get some rest Gordon. I'll make sure Levi gets home."
"Ok David." I accepted. "Thanks again for Scorbunny."
"Don't mention it. Actually, meet me at the Pokémon Centre in Wedgehurst tomorrow. There's someone I think you should meet."
"I'll be there about ten." I said, walking up the small incline to my house.
That night, I dreamt about the Slumbering Weald and the Pokémon again. Only this time, for some reason, it looked even more scary than it was. It even had wings and another two pairs of eyes.
I woke up early and looked at my clock. I only had another ten minutes before my alarm was due to go off. Since Scorbunny was blocking my way off my bed, I decided to do some research. I quietly called my Rotom phone over and decided to look through the internet for anything that could even resemble the Pokémon we saw the night before.
I hadn't found anything up to the time my alarm went off. Scorbunny woke up and moved away from my clock. I turned it off and sat up.
I rubbed my eyes and looked around my room. This would be the last time in a long time that I knew I would be sleeping in it. I took a breath and got off my bed and picked out my clothes for the day. A red T-Shirt under a grey unbuttoned cardigan and the pair of jeans I bought yesterday.
After my shower and teeth brushing, I put on my clothes and made my way downstairs. I had left my bag downstairs the night before so I could be sure I wouldn't forget it.
Before I went into my house last night, Davidhad given me five Poké balls for this morning, suggesting I add a few Pokémon to my party.
I looked through my bag one last time;
I had five Potions in case Scorbunny needed healing.
The five Poké balls to catch wild Pokémon.
A guide with helpful tips for any sort of journey.
A collapsible fishing rod for catching Pokémon that lived in the sea or rivers.
My bag would easily be filled as I bought more items to help me on my journey. I picked up Scorbunny's ball and returned Scorbunny so I wouldn't have to worry about it getting lost.
I heaved my bag onto my back and looked around, making sure I hadn't forgotten anything. My mum had given me a sandwich to have for my dinner and she even gave me some spending money.
I left a note telling my mum I was going to Wedgehurst and I would call her after I had finished my meeting with Martin. Even the early rising Meowth was still asleep in its little bed. I quietly left the house and made my way to the edge of Postwick.
I took a step onto Route 1 when my phone buzzed. It flew out of my pocket and a message appeared on the screen that Rotom read out.
'NOW THAT YOU ARE A TRAINER, WHENEVER YOU DEFEAT OR CATCH A POKÉMON, ALL THE POKÉMON ON YOUR PERSON WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE. THIS MEANS THAT EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEND IN A POKÉMON TO BATTLE, THEY WILL STILL GET EXPERIENCE POINTS AND MAY SUDDENLY POP OUT OF THEIR POKÉ BALLS AND EVOLVE.'
This seemed like a useful thing. At least if I caught a Magikarp and wanted to evolve it into a Gyarados.
I walked down the route and saw that my path was instantly blocked by a flock of sleeping Wooloo. What was the problem with these Wooloo?
I had no choice but to go the only other way to Wedgehurst; through the grass. I know it doesn't sound bad, but the only problem is that somehow, the Pokémon on routes are really good at hiding in the grass. Sometimes you can see them and other times they just spring out. It just baffles me when I see someone walking by and suddenly, they're ambushed by a Wooloo that appeared out of nowhere.
I always knew that I had to be careful in the grass. It was one of the first things they teach you in school.
I managed to get past the first patch easy enough, but when I was in the second patch, it was a different story. I encountered a wild Wooloo (big surprise!), a Blipbug and a Caterpie. I managed to catch them all, but Wooloo managed to escape from the first ball I threw at it but succumbed to the second throw. I had one Poké ball left.
I was finally about to leave the route when I saw a Rookidee fly towards me too fast for me to duck.
It flew straight into me, knock me back a step and flew a short distance away. I knew it was wanting a battle. I smirked and sent out my newly caught Wooloo.
"Alright Wooloo, use Tackle!" I called.
Wooloo rolled forward and over Rookidee. Rookidee shook itself and launched forward and used what I thought to be a Peck attack. "Don't give up Wooloo. Growl!"
Wooloo gave out a loud bleat, lowering Rookidee's attack power. Rookidee Pecked again, and it appeared that it didn't do as much damage as before.
"Wooloo, use another Tackle." I said, taking my last empty Poké ball in my hand.
Wooloo charged forward again but this time, Rookidee flapped its wings and dodged the attack. Then it looked at Wooloo, its eyes glowing red.
"That must have been Leer." I guessed to myself. "Wooloo, Tackle one more time!"
Wooloo stepped back and rolled forward. Rookidee lifted its wings up and I knew I had to say something. "Wooloo! It's going to fly into the air again!"
When the moment was right, Wooloo launched itself into the air and hit Rookidee, bringing it back down to Earth.
Wooloo began to look around for Rookidee. It had disappeared. I looked around the area, not seeing any Pokémon. When Wooloo turned away from me, I blinked. I told Wooloo to stay still and approached it. I saw a panting Rookidee inside Wooloo's fur. I lightly threw the Poké ball, making sure it would hit a part of Rookidee.
The ball landed on the floor and shook three times. I rolled a fourth time, clicking and the button glowed green, showing that it had been captured, just like with Wooloo, Blipbug and Caterpie.
I was now out of empty Poké balls. If I found another Pokémon I wanted to catch, then I would have no choice but to wait for another of the same kind of Pokémon.
I left that patch of grass and looked around. I was free from wild Pokémon for the time being. I had picked up a Paralyze Heal and another Potion. Scorbunny had levelled up enough to learn Quick Attack, so that was a plus.
I realised that I was closer to Wedgehurst than I realised. I quickened my walking and made it into the town.
"Gordon!"
I looked and saw Louis and David waiting nearby. I walked over to them, forgetting about taking my Pokémon to the Centre and followed down a path, coming to a large building that looked older than the others. David knocked on the door and opened it up. Louis and I followed him in.
Whilst the outside looked old, the inside was definitely newer and cleaner. There were two levels and the bookcases stretched to the ceiling. A few plants were placed in areas where there was no space for anything else.
"Sonia? Are you here?" David called.
A small barking was heard as a small yellow and brown Pokémon came around the corner. I looked down at the cute Pokémon. It jumped up slightly at David and then noticed me and Louis. It padded over and sniffed at our shoes.
As its small tail began wagging and it started jumping at us, I assumed that it decided that we were trustworthy.
"Well, well, look who it is." Came a cheery voice. I looked up and a young looking woman around David's age. She had a small ponytail at the side, bright green eyes and a white lab coat over her clothes. "What brings you here David?"
"My brother and cousin are starting their journeys today." He answered. "I was hoping you'd be able to work your magic."
"And what magic is that?" she asked.
"Sonia, I want them to have Pokédexes." He explained.
"I know. It's what every new trainer comes here for." She smiled. "I just like making you squirm."
I tried to hold in my laughter as David's face turned sour. He was always straight forward and did not like jokes unless he was the one making them.
Sonia approached me and Louis. "Alright you two, have you got Rotom Phones?" Almost immediately, our phones flew out of our pockets and the faces on the back of them faced Sonia. "Well, hello to the two of you. Could you all please follow me?"
Our phones floated behind Sonia and we followed them. She led us to a corner that had a collection of wires. She separated two of them and held them out. "These wires will allow the Pokédex application to be installed on the phones. Rotom, I need each of you to connect to one of these wires please."
The two phones connected a port each to a wire and a pale blue circle appeared on the screen. It began to fill in a deep blue as the percentage increased by ten percent every second.
'DOWNLOAD COMPLETE. POKÉDEX APPLICATION INSTALLED.'
Sonia helped unplug the phones and our phones flew back to us. I reached out and took my phone and looked at the home screen.
I saw several apps that weren't there before. Specifically the Pokédex, Pokémon and bag apps. I pressed on the Bag app and saw it was on the Medicine section. I pressed on the Potion and felt something move in my bag. I pulled off my bag and saw a potion had come to the surface. This was unexpected.
I pressed on the Pokédex app next and immediately saw two things.
POKÉMON ENCOUNTERED – 6
POKÉMON CAPTURED – 4
"Not bad." I smirked.
I pressed on the final Pokémon app and saw that it gave an indication as to how healthy my Pokémon were.
"I need to get to the Pokémon Centre." I said, turning around.
"Before you do, can you do me a favour?" Sonia asked.
"What is it?" Louis asked.
"This was the first time that the Pokédexes have been given like this." Sonia told us. "Could the two of you please go to my grandma's house? She can scan the Rotom Phones and send me the reports."
"Sure." I smiled. "I just want to go to the Pokémon Centre first."
"Just head north past the centre and down the steps. You should see a sign for Route 2." Sonia told me as I left the building.
I made my way to the centre and healed my Pokémon. I turned around and made my way to the door and stopped. I went back to the counter.
"Excuse me, but I hope you can help me."
"Well, I'll certainly try." The nurse said.
"I'm close to a full party of Pokémon and…" I started, not knowing how to finish my question.
The nurse smiled and pointed to her side at a white computer. "Use this Rotomi to access the Pokémon Storage System. There's better information on there."
I approached the Rotomi and it 'sprang' to life. I looked at the screen. It was asking for a username and password. I was stunned for a time being until the screen added a line of text.
'FIRST TIME USERS MUST USE THEIR POKÉDEX APP TO CREATE A LINK WITH A ROTOMI AND CAN THEN CREATE A POKEMON STORAGE SYSTEM ACCOUNT. TURNING ON WIRELESS FUNCTION.'
I opened my Pokédex app and saw a wireless symbol flashing. I pressed the symbol and saw that the two screens were now linked.
After using my phone to create a username and password, I was now free to sort out my Pokémon. Despite the fact that it is most likely best for me to keep them in my party, I decided to put all but Scorbunny into the Storage System. Once that was done, I logged out and went to the opposite end of the centre. There's always a store inside Pokémon Centres for convenience. I decided to buy ten Poké balls and as a bonus, I got a Premier ball.
I left the centre and headed north, finding the steps that Sonia mentioned and headed down them. There was a small bridge that led onto Route 2. Since it looked sturdier than the one I crossed yesterday in the Slumbering Weald, I had no problems with crossing it.
"Gordon wait!" I turned around, seeing David and Louis walking towards me.
David handed me a small bag. "Here, call it a congratulatory gift." I looked into the bag and saw several small Poké balls. I looked back at David. "There's twenty Poké balls in there. You can use them to catch as many Pokémon as you want. Now if you two don't mind, I'm going to get some dinner. I'll meet you at Magnolia's place."
He walked back into Wedgehurst and Louis looked at me. "Want to go there together?"
"At least for the time being." I smiled.
He nodded in agreement. We had long ago discussed what we would do if we ever went on a journey. To start out, we would help each other but only up a point. When we felt the time was right, we would go our separate ways and get stronger on our own.
