A/N Cain and how he knew there was a werewolf in Sunnydale is just one of the unasked and unanswered questions in this episode. Another is, what happened to Cain, a confessed serial killer, after Buffy let him go? In other stories I've written I've tried to find logical explanations to explain how Cain knew there was a werewolf in Sunnydale and I've also pursued a number of different types of consequences for the murders he's committed. In this story I'm concentrating on a different unasked and unanswered question and Cain doesn't exist as far as this story is concerned.
I also didn't like Angel's handling of the humans that eat werewolves either in case anyone's wondering. Both Buffy and Angel let humans and demons in general and ones either one was involved with get away with murder. While both attempted the murder of humans themselves. In Buffy's case she tried to kill Faith twice and Angel started to kill Wesley but stopped himself. Both felt they had good reasons to kill, Buffy wanted to feed Faith, a troubled and desperately in need of help Slayer, to Angel when he was poisoned and Angel, when Wesley kidnapped his son, thinking he was saving him. While I understand Angel's grief and motivation and appreciate the fact that he stopped, no one can convince me Buffy was right regarding trying to kill Faith.
Angel letting Darla and Drusilla kill the lawyers is vigilantism, the lawyers may have earned death a thousand times over and human law couldn't touch them. It's a moral grey area. But the humans that eat werewolves fall into the same category and they may have also earned death multiple times over. It's an inconsistently applied morality on the show.
Are we going to have a debate on Anya and Xander again? Because an argument for hypocrisy can be made for all of them, so don't start on Xander and Anya unless you're willing to admit to Buffy and Angel's hypocrisy as well. I stipulate that they're all hypocrites at one time or another.
I don't know how the Iris of the All Seeing Oracle functions but it's listed in the Marvel wiki as something Dr. Strange used to scry for specific people or locations.

Cordelia was growing increasingly worried, it wasn't like Willow to be late to anything and she and Oz still hadn't shown up to help her watch the Bronze in case the suspected werewolf showed up. Finally after an hour of waiting for them she called Xander, who was using the Iris of the All Seeing Oracle to try to locate a werewolf in and around Sunnydale. The results were...surprising.
"Ms. Calendar, I've got five signatures that could be werewolves in the Sunnydale area."
"Five?! A pack of them? How has no one noticed a pack of werewolves roaming Sunnydale?"
"Because they're not roaming Sunnydale." Xander answered. "Three of them are in an area outside Sunnydale in the desert. It's about ten miles from here actually. I don't know that area at all, but these three werewolves are well away from people. The other two are in the National Forest to the south of Sunnydale on the opposite side of where Giles and Buffy are looking."
"So the theory that our werewolf might be looking for a mate might mean he or she found another werewolf and never got distracted by human pheromones." Jenny hypothesized, studying the areas Xander indicated. "The ones near here may actually be a family, they might have an area where they go to avoid people during the full moon cycle."
"One or both of the ones in the Forest might have been roaming Sunnydale last night." Xander suggested. "And ran into each other tonight. They could be using the Forest to hunt or mate or both, but right now none of them are near people. Buffy and Giles have a tranq gun, I suggest they go to the Forest and try to find the ones there. It's a big Forest though and all the Oracle is showing me is they're near the middle of the Forest and all there are in there are hiking trails though it, so it'll take awhile. You and I are closest to the three others, we can check to see if they're a problem or are being responsible."
Before she could comment on Xander's plan, his phone rang and Xander answered it when he saw it was Cordelia.
"We've got another problem." Xander said grimly. "Willow and Oz haven't shown up at the Bronze, Cordelia's going to run to Willow's house, Oz was going to pick her up. If they're not there, she'll check his house, maybe his Aunt and Uncle know where he is. She's already on the way, I'm going to try using the Oracle to scry for them." Which proved a frustrating and scary business when he couldn't locate either one. "There's only two ways they wouldn't show up, Ms. Calendar," Xander was trying to control his fear. "if they're dead or no longer human. Or not currently human."
"Not currently human?" Jenny looked at the map and the locations of the werewolves. "Xander, the two werewolves in the National Forest -." She trailed off.
"It's better than thinking she's dead." Xander said through clenched teeth. "Barely a year since Jesse died and a monster took over his body. Werewolves aren't monsters, no matter what movies say, just humans with a manageable condition. At least she'd still be alive if one of those werewolves is her."
"I'll call Rupert, get him and Buffy searching the Forest. Is there a faster way?"
"I can't do a blind teleport into the Forest, I could end up in a tree. But I could teleport to Cordy's place and use her Pegasus to do a flyby of the Forest, I might spot something that way."
"Do it." Jenny called Giles and filled him in as Xander teleported himself outside the stables at Chase Manor and borrowed his girlfriend's flying horse to try to find his oldest friend and her boyfriend.
Who might possibly be werewolves. Somehow.
