The Shade Rewrite

A rewrite of my old story. An assassination Tsunade ordered resulting in the death of Uzumaki Naruto has caused Konoha nothing but problems. The war against Iwagakure bankruptcy the loss of Wave Spring and Demons have cost Konoha millions and thousands of troops. Now a suspicious client is looking to hire them for protection against the leagendary assassin Shade.

Chapter 12

Re-thinking a few placements and replacing a few OC's with cannon characters. I'm also going have some fun with the Sharingan's seeing as I suspect no two are a like my reasons for this are because, Sasuke switched eyes with Itachi giving him Itachi's abilities but to my knowledge neither had Shisui's body flicker till Sasuke got the Rinnegan even then it could be because of the Rinnegan. Susanoo's a given ability, but no one else but the brothers to my current knowledge anyway uses Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu. Anyway though on with the chapter.

Fox Hunts.

Since the prophecy nightmares and subsequent first meeting, with the fox mask wearing man along with Tsunade's fixation on the name of The Shade. Konoha made it an absolute point to hunt down the assassin with Suna and Kiri. So far it's been literal dead ends. Any base they found exploded any information. The gathered was a lie. Any file taken any spy captured anything they found on the bastard was a trap with in a trap.

Konoha

Kakashi woke up as he often did those days with a throbbing headache and a dry mouth. "Dammit". He greeted the to bright morning sun shine coming through his window, when he smelled something it was coffee. If his head didn't weigh a ton right now he'd investigate, it wasn't until Hanare walked in that he tried sitting up. "Morning handsome". She greeted with a grin Kakashi was trying to remember who she was and why she was here. "What did I do last night?". He asked she shrugged. "Told me to fuck off then had me drag your sorry ass across Konoha, to your place where I spent the better part of a day and a half making sure you didn't choke on your own vomit". She informed nonchalantly Kakashi laid back down.

"Name's Hanare if you remember". She re-introduced Kakashi sighed remembering now. "If this is an assassination could you aim for my heart, my brain can't take another shot". He asked making her chuckle when Asuma walked in frowning. "She wasn't going to kill you, I was about to though". He informed getting Kakashi's sick attention as he sighed. "You my friend need to clean up we're at war and we could use you sober". He ordered/informed Kakashi shrugged. "And why should I exactly? Afraid I'm gonna kill more comrades". He returned Asuma sighed Hanare frowned, she walked over and slapped Kakashi hard across the face.

"Given that you're a drunk piece of shit right now he has every right to be afraid". She said bluntly it didn't help his throbbing headache, but it sobered him up a bit. "Look..". He started getting slapped again. "Listen to me right now". She ordered shutting him up. "I won't tell you everything's going to be ok, or even that everyone's depending on you because from what I've heard these days you were a shit Sensai and a garbage friend". Kakashi flinched lowering his head in complete shame as Hanare continued. "But I will tell you the few people you still care about, are going to need you". Kakashi thought about Sakura, Guy, Kurenai, Asuma and Yamato basically everyone but Sasuke.

"Now I took the liberty of making some breakfast, so get your drunk ass up and start eating and for the love of Kami take a fucking shower". She ordered Kakashi stood up, then immediately stumbled to the bathroom to throw up. Leaving Hanare and Asuma to sigh. "So what do you think?". Hanare asked Asuma shrugged. "All things considered the enemy Shinobi of Keys, has done a better job then we did". He replied putting a cigarette in his mouth. "Your students are at the orphanage for the time being, so we have hostages to keep you in line. I know it's a shit thing to say trust me I do, and my great village of love and peace would appreciate someone with your skills". He assured with no sprit and a great deal of sarcasm the Shinobi world is fucked when it came to children and getting outside Kunoichi to join them and just about everybody but the Academy students knew it.

"Unofficially though I'm willing to let you being here slide for the time being, in exchange for you not making me regret it". He offered Hanare shrugged. "Deal I guess". Asuma walked out to have a smoke and report to Tsunade, and talk to his nephew so he could tell Inari. Hanare heard the shower turn on and got a fresh pair of clothes ready. "From master spy to respected Sensai of the next generation to nurse to a drunk and now basically a house wife, yay world of Kunoichi". She said sarcastically to herself walking in the bathroom, Kakashi swung open his shower curtain he didn't realize he was going to have a roommate for a while. As Hanare put the clothes down on top of his dryer, she scanned him for a drunk he was still ripped, mainly because when he wasn't drinking, he was training to take his mind off everything. She let out a whistle with a grin confusing him for a moment still sobering up. "I appreciate the view and all, but let's stick to being friends for a while". She ordered Kakashi finally looked down and covered himself making her laugh before walking out.

After the shower he walked out to see the breakfast the classic bacon, eggs, and toast with coffee all cold. Hanare was reading one of his Icha Icha. "Hitomi walked in on Kazuma as he showered, Kazuma ripped opened his curtain. To see the goddess in front of him, grinning with a whistle. Oh wow, that must've been a fantasy of yours".Hanare teased Kakashi sighed but let out an embarrassed chuckle before sitting down. "And no you either eat it cold or you heat it up yourself". She answered unsaid question or complaint Kakashi shrugged and started eating. He bit some toast and drank some coffee. "I'm heating up the coffee". He informed making her grin. "Never actually read these you know". Hanare informed Kakashi shrugged. "You can keep it haven't read them in years". He informed making her frown she saw a different book on the table, and took it and frowned more.

The Adventures of the Great Uzumaki Naruto. "My new favourite series". Kakashi informed sitting back down. "Believe it or not there's more information in that book, then Naruto ever told us". Kakashi explained confusing Hanare making him chuckle. "You see Naruto would get separated from us, on plenty of our biggest missions. Amaru Tsunami Shion Inari Gaara Lady Kazahana even Iruka himself filled in the blanks, Naruto never talked about". Kakashi informed. "Iruka?". Hanari asked Kakashi sighed thinking about the old academy Sensai. "Naruto's father his adopted father the only person that was ever truly there for Naruto next to Teuchi and Ayame anyway". He said sadly as he took the book and went through some pages, before handing it back. Hanare read the page stopping at some quotes from Umino Iruka, about his first few years with Naruto. "He was a man who truly smartened up. Even though he had his problems with him as well". Kakashi said tearfully as she read.

"Naruto back in the day was an excitable unfocused class clown in bright orange. So to be absolutely honest with you I didn't think vary highly of him. My former associates in the academy didn't paint a nice picture of him either. Like every other moron in my former village to my shame I saw Naruto, as the Kyuubi. The Kyuubi during the attack on Konoha killed my parents, I only wished I knew then what I know now because if I did well…I would hope I was there for Naruto sooner."

"Instead like the idiot I was I grew intolerant to an innocent child, I now think of as a son. So I ended up following him one night after class, first some bullies talked about going to the graveyard some stupid bravery test. Obviously Naruto wasn't invited so he left, and went for a walk stopping at the Happy Mask store, the guy who ran it was a prick. Now when you have this state of mind, everything no matter how small becomes evidence to your bullshit claims against a person's integrity. That mask store despite Konoha's deep rooted hatred towards the Kyuubi and Naruto and just the average Kitsune. Had Kitsune masks so from both mine and the bastards perspective, we saw Naruto looking at a Kitsune mask on the display. The shop owner after throwing Naruto out hit his head with that mask to shoo him off. As it turns out Naruto was looking at a Neko mask to the right of the Kitsune mask a Inu to its left and a Hebi just above it. I asked him this years after finding the thing hanging on the wall."

"He simply took it because it was thrown at him. Apparently those masks belonged to three ANBU who actually protected him properly he called them Viper Lady, Kitty-Chan and Doggy-Onii-Chan, there was another, but he never saw the mask to give them a name. I know the identities of the main three but can't reveal them, for obvious reasons. I will say Viper was the best of them. Anyway though the stupid bravery test was to go to the grave specifically, the one filled with people who were killed by the Kyuubi during the full moon, where it's told to be guarded by the spirit of a demon fox and low and behold Naruto had just the right mask for the job. My parents were in the graveyard so when I saw Naruto in that Kitsune mask, scaring the other kids, acting like a ghost to my shame I snapped." Iruka took a moment to whip his eyes.

"When he noticed me he ran to me with that adorable hundred gigawatt mischievous smile, only to see me brandishing a Kunai. To this day that look of betrayal, he gave me the tears that went down his face, even after we patch things up and I did everything I could to help. That look still haunts me hearing him say that I was like everyone else and that he'll leave the village and everyone alone before running off. Everything clicked and after he by some grace of Kami forgave me I vowed to do better. Then I realized why he had his attitude he was sabotage, the Headmaster gave rewards for changing tests or casting Genjutsu on him. How Naruto turn into such a good man with all these bastards in his life I will never know. Even now it still filled me with so much pride, I only wish I could see him again and tell my boy just how proud I am of him, and be there when he needed me the most…."

Hanare put the book down with a sigh while Kakashi ate. "I'll read more later, I don't feel like crying over a kid I only met once". She informed Kakashi nodded in understanding. "The second book talks about his accomplishments, his speeches and his fights. If I was smarter back then, he and Sakura could've been my Magnum opus. Maybe even that piece of shit Sasuke if I just focussed on all of them equally, instead I tried to help the one who didn't want to be helped to get him to see things he didn't want to look at and the little prick betrayed us". He said angrily Hanare shrugged off his annoyance.

"You know to be fair he was what? All of six years old, when he watched everybody he ever knew and loved get killed by his brother. The person he loved the most his hero, then had to relive it all for mentally at least 72 hours, to then only have a second to process". She countered getting his attention. "Then living in a village of suck ups who wanted to give him everything under the sun, so they can mooch off of him later and were pretty blatant about it not knowing the difference between someone who genuinely loves him and someone just wants to use him". She continued then drank some coffee. "Then there's you and Naruto. With Naruto he was the only person to generally treat Sasuke like a person, somebody who wouldn't put up with the Uchiha's shit. Who was also there when he needed him someone to keep him grounded in reality, then Naruto would get punished for it whenever he opened up his mouth against the Uchiha then you giving Sasuke special training without giving any context as to why, you never treated your team like an actual team you didn't treat everyone equally all things considered, you have no right to talk about Sasuke like that when you contributed to a lot of that damage and I'm not a fan of the little shit either, we've heard all about how guilty Sakura was because she's freely admitting she was a bitch, focusing on the Uchiha and not on her friend Naruto". She bluntly told him Kakashi sighed. He apparently had another person to keep them grounded, In reality himself. Somebody who was a lot less tactful then even Guy.

"Fuck". Kakashi said shaking Hanare nodded. "I poured out all your alcohol you're gonna have to live with it like the rest of us did". She informed get his attention she frowned. "My abilities were found out, when I was 11 I lost my virginity at 14 to 37 year old man. Because sex is a tool to be used and shouldn't be given for love, obviously though it was pretty one-sided, had my first kill two minutes later after I got feeling back in my legs same piece of shit". Kakashi looked at her heartbrokenly. "I spent most of my life from 12 to when we met in captivity, so you guys couldn't get a fucking look into what we do in my old village. Then that adorable little bugger wanted to play matchmaker with us, completely screwed up my perfect mission streak so I was made a teacher, for the next generation of spy". She said angrily remembering it all she owed Naruto a lot herself.

"I was planning to take the kids on a field trip to Wave, and beg at Inari's feet to let us stay there. Seeing as he had two great villages and two Swordsmen at the snap of his fingers. I refused to let those kids go through what I did but now my villages isn't a factor". Kakashi was confused making her roll her eyes, and explained what happened a couple days ago shocking him and making him feel like a bastard. Not for the village but for the woman in front of him. "Are the children ok?". He asked she nodded. "Your angry friend. The one with the bowl haircut took them to the orphanage. I'm planning to go see them today". She informed Kakashi stood. "I'll join you". She looked at him. "You want me to have a different perspective on things, I'm guessing you can't wonder around unattended and I'm sober enough". She grinned a bit at him. "Alright we'll…". She was cut off by an explosion at the Hokage's office making the two jump up in shock with half the village.

Konohamaru and Moegi.

The two were in the barbecue house eating together, what they wouldn't give to have Ichiraku back. "Are you going to be ok?". Moegi asked with concern Konohamaru sighed. "Are you going to be around?". He returned she nodded. "Then I'll be far better then ok". He said with a grin she blushed then smiled at him. They heard an explosion and immediately bursted through the privacy barrier out the door.

A few hours previously.

Border of Grass and Fire.

Benga was waiting at the meeting point. He had slicked and combed back black hair with long sideburns, he was a large man with wide chubby face and bulbous nose, holding a pair of glasses. The man if you don't want to spare his feelings, looked like a frog. He wore a green uniform jacket with six gold buttons on the right side. With two gold ring designs on each sleeve. With a gold clip on the neck, held together with a black belt while brought out his gut more. He wore grey pants and black knee high boots. He smelled of booze and those few guards he had with them, were glaring at him every now and them. Sure they took bribes and beat up prisoners as well. The only difference was they weren't like Benga they honoured their deals and they sure as hell don't take evidence like he did. Now they had to follow the fat little bastard to Konoha or they could be guests in their old workplace.

Benga had a grin on his face years ago Benga was fired from Hōzuki Castle, AKA the Blood Prison by Mujo himself. For accepting bribes assaulting prisoners, manipulating paperwork to increase sentences, on rehabilitated prisoners starting everything back to square one and drinking on the job, he was only lucky that he wasn't put in that same prison for those crimes. Now with Kusa fighting for Iwa he saw an opportunity to jump ship and get some revenge on his old boss. He grinned the moment the Shadow Strike appeared. "Took you long enough". He scolded cockily Neji walked up and smacked Benga across the face, stunning him while he glared.

"Now you better listen and listen good, you piece of garbage. We know everything about you from your shoe size to your time in Hōzuki Castle. So don't you fucking dare think for a moment that you have anymore leverage then you're worth". Neji informed he wasn't in the mood, after hearing about the Raven Core. Benga rubbed his cheek and glared under his glasses. "And hear I thought Hyuga's were always calm, but fine I have information the high warden of Hōzuki Castle Mui is plotting something big, along with Kusa troop placements and a lead on that Fox guy. I'll only inform your Hokage on this in exchange for asylum, and a million in cash". He ordered Neji glared before Shikamaru gently pushed him back.

"Vary well we'll escort you to Hokage-Sama, but I warn you this better be worth every penny for your sake". He warned Benga nodded angrily. "How about in the spirit of giving we fact check it for you first". They heard as Kunai shot out of the bushes killing Benga's guards terrifying him. Kurotsuchi emerged from the shadows with a grin the Shadow Strike glared while Benga was shaking. "Of course we could just kill you". She opted Neji launched vacuum palm, that Kurotsuchi took with a grin. She didn't even move shocking him.

"I'm the next Tsuchikage for a reason asshole". She assured making hand signs. "Lava style: Volcanic Ash". She shouted spitting it out, Benga was hit on his arm and screamed in pain. Shino pulled him behind a tree that caught on fire. Kurotsuchi charged at Neji who struck a his palm out, Kurotsuchi dodged right it looked like she would continue passed him but brought her right leg, up to knee Neji's stomach and gave a stone laced fist to the jaw. He tilted his head enough channeling Chakra to his cheek for his jaw not to break off, but still went flying. She jumped away from the Shadows heading her way and spat out a Phoenix Flower Jutsu at the shocked Shikamaru who dodged. He was making hand signs for one of his fire Jutsu's and was stunned to see Kurotsuchi following him, looking up sweat poured from off his face, he stopped and closed his eyes.

Kurotsuchi had Sharingans not just that Mangekyō Sharingans. Neji grabbed him and rushed next to Shino. "Kagutsuchi". Kurotsuchi shouted as a blood red blast of fire, emerged from her eyes burning through trees. They just barely made it behind the cover of a rock that was melting in to lava. "What the fuck?". Shikamaru shouted his skin from the heat was giving him and Neji a bad suntan. "Kagutsuchi the god of fire, father of the mountain gods. He is one of the patron Gods of Iwagakure. Uchiha's had a real hard on for naming their Sharingan abilities after the ancients Kami eh?". Kurotsuchi said with a grin given that Susanoo Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi were a thing. "Guess we should get reacquainted, I'm the next Tsuchikage of Iwagakure Wicked Eye Kurotsuchi". She reintroduced their eyes widened remembering the original owner of that nickname. Shino summoned a giant beetle, dragging Benga on while Neji and Shikamaru joined. Kurotsuchi grinned as the flew off. "Get prepared Foxy they're heading out". She informed. "Copy darling". He returned making her chuckle. "Pay back you bastards". She said to the escaping beetle.

Konoha.

Landing on the roof of the Hokage tower, they pulled Benga off. "What are you doing? I need a hospital". Benga yelled Shikamaru glared. "Tsunade-Sama is the best medic in the world you stupid bastard, why do you think we brought you directly to her?". He returned leaving out the fact Sakura was around, because they needed the information and his health if he could still talk, wasn't their problem. As they dragged him downstairs.

The Konoha Royal Hotel Diemyo sweet belcany.

The only building that can see eye to eye with the Hokage tower more specifically the Hokage's office is the Konoha Royal, for the simple fact the Diemyo's personal penthouse is on the top floor, it gets routinely swept for any signs of traps bugs and anything else and it's usually under 24 hour ANBU watch whether or not the Diemyo is there. Though it's called a Hotel it's actually, an undercover apartment building for said ANBU. The unknown occupant at the moment was setting up his new toy. He turned on his earbud for the bug he planted in the office and took aim. "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HIM?" Tsunade shouted while she was with Jiraiya the team just entered, and threw Benga down.

"Kurotsuchi herself showed up to stop the transition, right now we need every bit of information he has, she also has the Mangekyō Sharingan, she called herself Wicked Eye". Shino informed Tsunade sighed angrily and started healing Benga while he glared. "These bastards hit me, and mouthed off I want to make a report and AAAHHHH". He screamed before Jiraiya was squeezing his arm with the third-degree burns and volcanic glass on/in it with a glare. "Do you want asylum here? Do you want your one million Ryo? Then quit your bitching and start talking". He ordered while Tsunade stood in front of him authoritatively, making the assassin grin and fire. Benga took a deep breath. "Fine Foxtrot has a base…". They heard whistling then the window shattering then seeing a large arrow going through Tsunade's stomach in to Benga's shoulder, launching and pinning the screaming man in to a wall.

"TSUNADE". Jiraiya shouted pushing her on to the ground, covering her. The ANBU jumped from the ceiling Tsunade was starting to heal. "HELP ME". Benga screamed out when they heard hissing from the arrow like a fuse, Neji and Shino grabbed Tsunade with Shikamaru using her desk as cover, everyone who could did the same. Jiraiya stood there contemplating letting it happen. "JIRAIYA GET THE FUCK DOWN". Shino surprisingly shouted when the hissing stopped they sighed it was a dud when another arrow went through an ANBU's head. That nearly getting Tsunade's, if she didn't tilt her head in time Jiraiya jumped over the desk to cover and get her out of the way, when the arrow in Benga exploded slamming everyone, to the windows and some through them while those who didn't take cover at all, got hit by shrapnel killing them, with the ones who jumped up from the last attack.

Shikamaru got another arrow to the arm, falling back pinned to the desk, Tsunade ripped it out it started hissing Shikamaru took back and threw it at the door. Then shielded Tsunade under the windows. The door exploded off. "MOVE SHINO NEJI WITH ME". Shikamaru shouted jumping from the window, with his team an arrow hit the wall just under them and exploded, knocking them back and slamming them to the ground, Shikamaru's back was burnt with some broken ribs Neji broke his leg Shino just got the wind knocked out of them when he hit the ground so he was lucky. Jiraiya jumped completely over them and the guard wall knowing full well where you can get a shot off like that from, now the assailant wasn't messing around his arrows now exploded on impact. "EVERYONE GO IN TO BUILDINGS, TAKE COVER AND STAY OFF THE STREET". He ordered everyone ran into shops their houses other peoples houses under tables anything to stay out of the line of fire. ANBU on the roofs, didn't stand a chance their body parts and blood are now raining down on people. Jiraiya was bobbing and weaving around to be a harder target to hit. So to make up for this, the sniper was shooting a little ahead of him, forcing him to bob weave stop roll and then go.

Running up the wall at top speed, he jumped, and found nothing he ran to the railing on the other side. No one was there a weasel masked ANBU with long black hair ran from inside the sweet. "Itachi?". Jiraiya asked angrily still holding a grudge from Itachi's disappearance, and more importantly, his best friend almost dying. "No sir my code name is badger, but I guess it's a part of the same family". He said still on guard looking around, when Tsunade appeared with her bodyguards and she was pissed. "Itachi what are you doing here?". She demanded annoyed making him sigh. "I'm not Itachi or Weasel my code name is Badger". He returned annoyed, then bowed in apology for his outburst.

"Well sorry there's so many varmint masked assholes in ANBU". Jiraiya said the ANBU shrugged looking around. "Tell me Badger how come I never heard of you?". Yugao asked on guard getting his attention he then looked at Tsunade. "Request permission to provide information Hokage-Sama?". He asked she nodded suspiciously, he rubbed the forehead of his mask revealing a Root logo. "Remove your mask". Tsunade ordered he reached for it, "Are you sure Hokage-Sama?". He asked nervously. "She is". They looked at saw Kakashi there, he ran from his house when he heard explosions. Hanare was with him Kunai in hand.

"I was hoping to avoid this especially after you and I bonded at Danzo's execution, but fine, behind my mask". He said confusing Kakashi as he was removed it. "Is another mask pretty cool eh?". He said with the lower part of his face covered, he even had his headband over his left eye and an eye smile on his right. Kakashi glared making him chuckle. "OK I admit it. I always wanted to do that". He informed throwing a Kunai suddenly that Yugao deflected before it hit Tsunade. The Kunai then exploded releasing a smoke bomb, laced with pepper spray blinding everyone. Yugao saw him remove the head protector and put his mask back on, before her eyes started to burn and water horribly, and it felt like she was breathing in fire. Kakashi covered Hanare while the ANBU covered Tsunade, they couldn't see a damn thing.

Tsunade heard her people screaming, then the clinging of blades. "Impressive". Badger praised. "I'm guessing you're really Foxtrot". Yugao stated her older cousin Kushina, taught her how to use Kenjutsu, while blind still, her eyes were hurting like hell right now. "That I am and you must be the third member, of Kushina's legendary Terror Trio, Uzuki Yugao, a branch member of the Uzumaki Clan, and the bitch who broke the most sacred of Uzumaki rules to always look after family, tsk tsk on you". He returned sliding his left knife down her blade to swing his right knife to her ducking head, so I brought his left knife to her knee cutting it she brought her sword down, but he rolled out of the way.

"I watched over Naruto from the day he was fucking born you bastard". She said angrily hearing him chuckle. "Well obviously you didn't do a very good job. Seeing as he's dead and all and let's not forget all the torture he went through, I bet Hayate is so disappointed in you, or did he convince you to ignore him the coughing fuck?". Yugao heard his mocking voice then pinpointed where he was and then swiped. Another clang of metal and a punch of the stomach was returned. She fell to her knees every breath felt like she ate an entire bowl of ghost peppers, and the gasping wasn't helping with that. She held her blade for a minute in an underhand motion, after nearly dropping it she heard the cracking of his boots as he walked around her.

Then swung she definitely hit something and heard a pained grunt then someone hitting the ground, then got a punch in the face. "Ow if that was me, I would've been very upset". He said Yugao was worried who did she get? They heard buzzing and Foxtrot sigh. "God damn Aburame Root". She heard then heard footsteps indicating that the target was running the sound of the railing being grabbed then nothing. The bastard jumped escaping she was grabbed her eyes were forced open, and water from a canteen was poured on them. Her eyes still hurt, but her vision was starting to clear up. Though at this moment, she honestly wished they didn't. Tsunade had blood all over her, her bodyguards were dead and the assassin took the time to get her a few times. While Kakashi was laying there holding his stomach. "Sempai". Yugao shouted Kakashi grunted Hanare helped him up. Root grabbed Kakashi and rushed to the hospital with Hanari.

Base of operations.

Foxtrot turned his radio on. "Mission complete it'll take a month to clean Benga up from the Hokage's office. Most of the Shadow strike are gonna be in the hospital for a while too. With Kakashi". Foxtrot informed Kurotsuchi grinned. "Perfect see if you can get it to one of those bases their hiding, I'd be ever so grateful". Kurotsuchi informed in a flirtatious manner. "Copy that dear over and out". Foxtrot informed signing off with a sigh. He took out a photo of a red haired baby girl with a sad look. "Fox come in Fox". He heard and schooled his tone. "What's up Mr. Fix it?". He asked Fixer on the other line sighed. "I hate these code names, but anyway Sai is running straight to Suna apparently Gaara is up to something". He informed Foxtrot was thinking then was stunned. He signed off immediately to call someone else.

Border between Wind and Keys.

Sai personally went over to Suna the moment he heard the Raven Core members returned with a mission failure but plenty of Iwa fatalities. Gaara found the whole thing rather confusing he never asked for Konoha's aid in taking over the border country. Shrugging it off, he started focussing the sand around them, because today he was going to show all the other nations why he was Gaara of the Desert. it was noon the sun was out and Iwa was building defensive positions and burying their dead. Kitsuchi already left with some of his men back to Iwa, juggernauts were roaming around guarding and waiting for anything. Some of the shinobi on break had one of two reactions. Laughing and bragging that they took over the land or mourning the dead.

At this point, there is already two factions growing in the ranks. Kitsuchi's who were pissed about this war. Who didn't see the logic, or the common sense to go to war with a Village, that has beaten them more than once. Especially since it started because they found out the yellow flash had a son that was later killed. Konoha may be down right now because of that, but they have proven to never be counted out. Then there was everyone else still focussed on the past still wanting revenge, they were just happy to finally be able to spill some Konoha blood.

Right now the Fort Commander Brock was on the radio, it was something rather new for the shinobi world to communicate like this, but it was far easier than messenger hawks. Brock wasn't a large man, but he was muscular. He had black eyes spiky, black hair and a beard and wearing the traditional uniform. He wasn't a coward as much as an opportunist he knew a lost cause the moment it was announced that they were going to go to war with their longest reigning enemy. He didn't live to be 55 for nothing after all. Besides with no wife or kids that might be from prostitutes or possibly from a few cornered Kunoichi or some cute little thing he cornered here and there, he had nothing keeping him around and in Iwa's service. So If he saw an opportunity to jump ship, he would his commander position didn't matter.

All It really did was inflate his ego a little bit more, except when the Tsuchikage's son or granddaughter smacked it out of them. "Jomae come in this is The Fox answer me, you moron". Foxtrot ordered, making him grunt and answer. "What is it you two dollar Backstabber?". He answered rudely. "Watch that fucking tone, before I go down there and cut you from balls to throat". The order made him shake and reminded him who he was talking to. "My apologies Foxtrot". He apologize frantically getting silence for a minute. "Better now then get your idiot men and get them prepared, Suna is….Never mind you're fucked do the impossible and die with some dignity". Foxtrot ordered hanging up getting a grunt of confusion and worry from the commander.

One of his men broke through the door, terrified . "Sir we need back up right now". He said frantically that's when everything got dark, confusing and worrying him more as the soldier kept sweating. Pushing his man aside, and walked out his eyes widened terror. An entire deserts worth of sand was flying over from wind country, blocking out the sun. On top of it was a single man the once monster turned ruler. Kazekage Gaara himself arms crossed, face void of emotion and ready to kill. "Oh no". Brock said running back inside his shack taking cover under his desk.

Gaara moved a hand forward. "SAND SHURIKEN". Gaara shouted as muffled sounding machine gun fire from sand forming and lunching from the flouting sand. Gaara was only recently discovered his magnet release from Karin, and was taking advantage. He mixed metal shavings in his sand, to wrap around and sharpen his sand Shurikens. The regular Iwa Shinobi didn't stand a chance, as they were cut to pieces by the hail of bladed sand. Brock was terrified his roof was getting destroyed and his desk was barely holding if not for the metal from his connection devices. The Juggernauts weren't fairing much better, it's not so much the quality as much as the quantity, the were getting killed by bug bites.

"SAND DRAGON". Gaara shouted putting his hands down sending his own version of the elemental dragon styles into the village. Brock had enough jumping down the hatch of his office, and using earth style mole, to tunnel quickly away unground. He had no idea the living sand was right behind him, he was almost home free when he was pulled, through the tunnels. Screaming as he went smashing through his ceiling, then suspended in highs only Onoki should be able to go. Hanging upside down he opened his eyes looking down then screamed in terror, then screamed more at seeing the Kazekage staring at him. "Good afternoon commander I would like to have some words with you". Gaara informed terrifying him. Gaara returned to his side of the border to see the visibly shocked Sai, Gaara grinned. "I'm a Kage for a reason". Sai just nodded then saw Brock. "Mind if I listen in Kazekage-Sama?". He asked Gaara nodded allowing him to follow.

Kankuro walked out of the interrogation room with a sigh. "Broke down and told us everything in exchange for his freedom, didn't even have to do anything apparently he was looking to jump ship regardless". He informed his little brother and Kage Gaara shrugged. "Go back in there and fact check by any means necessary". He ordered his brother nodded re-entering the room they heard screaming now. Sai was beside Gaara leaning against the wall arms crossed like the redhead was. "How have you been Gaara?". He asked Gaara sighed. "I'm already sick of your village, no offense. How Konohamaru?". He returned Sai shrugged.

"None taken he's angry, but focussed on the task at hand probably training as usual. I've been so busy with my own position that I haven't been checking up on them unfortunately". He returned Gaara sighed. "I took over his network to". Gaara turned immediately to Sai in shock, making him frown. "The council as much as I hate Danzo, I can agree with him on the counsellors being useless". He admitted Gaara sighed angrily. "I'll have to pull the spy's, Kankuro donated to it and inform Ao as well if he doesn't know already". He informed Sai glared at the wall, cursing Inochi's name right now. "Isn't it possible to tell Tsunade it's a joint project instead, please Gaara I was against this from the beginning". Sai asked Gaara sighed.

"Konohamaru covered his bases, if it's not him Ebisu Moegi or Udon running it. No one is then Shikamaru ordering that girls death, obviously didn't help he did mention bringing you in from the beginning but timing is everything". He informed Sai was stunned. "Go back to Konoha Udon is going to be an ambassador to Suna, leaving Ebisu and Moegi to deputy the network. I'll do what I can to hold everybody off but you better run right now". Sai did exactly that and bolted from Suna. Painted his usual bird and took of flying at top speed. Kankuro walked out and gave a thumbs up Gaara nodded in appreciation then entered. "SAND COFFIN". The sound of crunching bone and blood splattering on the ground was heard. The brothers then walked out to get something to eat.

Konoha.

Sai was flying over the village and glared harder when he saw the Hokage's office smoking. "Oh what the fuck is it now?". He asked himself flying to the hospital. Landing his Root soldiers bowed immediately as Sai walked in angrily being followed. He walked passed Ino who was worried, she hasn't seen that angry look on his face since Naruto's death was revealed. Shikamaru was being helped by his father down the hall to go check on his team. He was shirtless and covered in bandages. Sai punched him in the chest making them fly back and gasp been pain, then punched Shikaku, and continue his men following. "SAI WHAT THE HELL?". Ino shouted worried he turned and glared angrily. "Council chambers ON THE DOUBLE". He shouted making everyone but his highly trained brothers and sister jump. "You guys find the counsellors drag them to the chambers immediately". They bowed and ran to collect.

Seeing Tsunade he paused she was exhausted. "Commander what was the yelling about?". She asked making him glare. "I've called a meeting. This has to be done now no if ands or butts". She simply sighed and Shunshined out. "Sai what happened?". Ino demanded she was nearly in tears, he frowned. "That girl Neji killed did you know anything about her?". He asked she shook her head. "Come to the meeting and find out bring any of your teammates who can actually walk". He ordered walking off she was worried.

Council Chambers.

Konohamaru Moegi Udon and Ebisu were brought in as well. At seeing the Root commanders face they sighed. "They know already". Konohamaru stated Sai nodded angrily, glaring at Shikamaru. "I contacted Hydra, he and Scorpion are doing what they can for the time being it isn't that the fact, one of my pillars are dead. It's how easy it was for them to go straight for killing her". Konohamaru informed his team frowned sadly confusing the counselors, and worrying the troopers. "I need one of you in Root to run the fucking thing, these morons and that pineapple headed fuck pretty much fucked over this joint project of yours". Sai said angrily making everyone flinch. "Joint project?". Ino asked carefully Sai frowned looking at Konohamaru to explain, it wasn't just out of respect either it was a necessity. "Not all the spies in our old network were mine. Plenty of them were donated to me and me alone by Kiri's Spy, master known as Hydra and Suna's know a Scorpion. Now, obviously scorpions identity is possibly known. But his identity will not be revealed in this room by any means necessary". Konohamaru started everyone's eyes widened that would've been the biggest spy network on the continent.

"Asami was a pillar of the network, meaning everything about her was classified to the point of a triple S, where if somebody even revealed her favourite dessert, would be killed immediately". Moegi stated everyone's eyes widened that level of security was ruthless. "So why didn't you tell us about this?". Choza demanded Udon shrugged. "Would you have believed a trio of kids were running a network this advanced?". He asked they were silent, Konohamaru nodded. "Besides after you guys were so big on taking it over I had to go run damage control so we didn't lose every spy we collected". Konohamaru said irritated then continued. "I was planning to bring Sai in from the beginning, we predicted this bullshit would happen eventually we just didn't think it would happen so soon". He informed glaring at Inochi.

"As for having one of us in Root, I suppose I'd have to volunteer. But that doesn't mean I'm going be hiding in the base while the fightings happening". Moegi enforced Sai clenched his fist. "Why don't you just take the fucking thing back over?". He asked glaring at his fellow counselors, they sighed Ebisu frowned. "Because there's no guaranteeing it won't happen again". The team Sensai finally chimed in getting everyone's attention. "I'm the one who originally trained this little Rugrats on information gathering. Helped them build this network as much as they helped each other do it, the spy game is a tricky thing to master". He said with a frown. "Doesn't matter how secure your network is. Spies are a paranoid bunch. It doesn't matter how hard you work to be invisible there will still be some eyes on you. It didn't take them long to find out that the head of the network just got taken down by back room politics. Then factor in the no second thought death of a pillar, Well, that was all they needed to jump ship". He educated making Shikamaru flinch as the trio glared at him.

"So what do we do then?". Sasuke asked calmly making Konohamaru sigh. "The first option, which I'm sure is gonna be the one you want. It's the offer a couple of secrets and a fuck ton of cash down the pipeline to pay back this loss and it's going to have to be the leader of this operation". Konohamaru stated worrying everyone. "How much money and what secrets?". Shikaku asked Konohamaru grinned. "At least five million from your Clan Banks, as for your secrets. Well that's up to you, but they better be good.". Everyone stood and was about to yell and scream before the young man glared making them sit. "Or and this is my favourite option we deliver them the head of the fucker who killed one of our pillars". He continued everyone froze especially Neji. "Don't worry Neji it would be Shika's head they want". Udon assured everyone looked at the trio. "Isn't there anything else we could do?". Inochi asked worried for his nephew they shrugged Ebisu sighed.

"Not really the only option is to give them something of greater value, the forbidden scroll, or some secrets of the Sannin. Unless you can get your hands on something of Orochimaru's you basically fucked their Iwa Network". Ebisu stated Sai clenched his teeth angrily. "GOD DAMMIT". He shouted glaring at the councillors. "I told you morons not to fuck with his network, and WHAT DO YOU DO THE EXACT FUCKING OPPOSITE". He yelled everyone flinched looking down ashamed, he glared harder at Shikamaru. "YOU ARE FUCKING LUCKY YOU BASTARD". He said angrily getting everyone's attention. "Danzo collected the dirtiest secrets of Konoha and every other village, with evidence he collected plenty on Iwa and Kumo. Would that help?". He asked the trio thought about it Udon sighed. "It would have to be Kumo's secrets otherwise, it would benefit us too much even with the security we'd face the threat of Kumo joining the war if word gets out. The whole point of this offering is to sacrifice something we would need in the future, and if our allies were to hear anything Kumo did to them we might have started another war regardless". He stated everyone sighed wanting to bash their heads against the wall.

"How many secrets?".

"Everything". They stated in unison. "Seeing as we have foreign spies from Hydra and Scorpion, as a show of good faith we have to give them everything we have on them to keep their people". Moegi informed Sai took a deep breath before exhaling his rage. "Danzo must be laughing at all of you right now, This stupid stunt is exactly the kind of thing he would do to start a war". Sai informed calmly he finally had his emotions and now it's all just rage. He then stood up before Konohamaru thought of something. "By the way did you extract anything from Benga before he exploded?". Ebisu asked Tsunade sighed. "He said Foxtrot had a base where? We don't know". Tsunade stated. "It's most definitely in Konoha, given Benga started with that". Udon stated Moegi nodded. "Logically he's using a building, with next to no foot traffic going through it. Maybe in the slums but that would be too obvious for someone like him". Moegi theorized Konohamaru was pondering.

"There's also no way out of Konoha through the slums, it would be impossible to tunnel underground. The walls dig underground at least 40 stories below the surface. With seals made by Lord Second and Lady Mito to detect anything underground, regardless. So he would need to be close to the north or south gate, the building would obviously be abandoned leaving…..". Konohamaru trailed off and their eyes widened. "That bastard". Konohamaru said angrily getting up. "Seal the Northgate shut everything down guard every gate every sewer every wall, the fuckers hiding at Ichiraku, we're gonna head over there right now the rest of you scan. The other buildings in case were wrong, and do it fucking quietly we can't tip him off that we know". Moegi ordered. "Moegi you and I are going to look for vantage points on the north gate if that bastard runs out, I want head shots". Ebisu ordered as the team bolted the council and teams for once simply did it as told and charged out after them, to do exactly as ordered.

Hunt

Former Ichiraku Ramen.

Konohamaru went around back with Udon they missed the old place. After Teuchi and Ayame left with Iruka the former staple of Konoha's history was bordered up power cut and up for sale. Tsunade was going to send the money to the owners whether they liked it or not. Right now though it was under investigation. There were no signs of forced entry, Tsunade had a key she took from the shop so he used it. "Bravo are you in possession?". Konohamaru asked. "Copy that alpha we got a free and open area anyone goes running through those gates? It's gonna get a bolt to the dome, you too better be careful if you know what's good for you". Ebisu ordered as he and his female apprentice were the best with the crossbows. "Copy that". Udon assured. Entering they used their flashlights and armed themselves with Kunai. They looked around the shop area consisting of the storage room, where the back entrance was then the kitchen then went to the second floor. The stairs were in the storage room again, heading upstairs they came to a narrow hallway, the left lead down to the bathroom the far right the living room. With the two bedrooms in front of them. They decided to play it smart with two on one, so they went to the closet room first. Konohamaru grabbed the knob with Udon behind him.

Opening the fist door they found outfits and the like but no Foxtrot. The next a make shift lab again no Foxtrot. Bathroom had nothing important either now the living room. When Udon entered he saw a gray mask and threw his Kunai getting the bastard between the eyes. Getting lights on it they sighed it was a jacket and mask on a coat rack, Konohamaru touched his ear piece. "Hokage-Sama Foxtrot was using Ichiraku Ramen as his base of operations, get power back on stat". Konohamaru ordered. "Copy that power restored….sending Shikaku and Inoichi to your potion I'm sorry but…,.".

"I know I know I know save the excuses tell them to haul ass, and get an Inuzuka we have clothes here to". He snapped at her. "Cop…copy that". She assured turning on the lights their eyes widened. The wall was covered in photos and a map. "Udon make sense of this I got the other rooms". Udon went to work Konohamaru did his own thing. Konohamaru got the lights in the dressing room as he'll call it. Till today he's never been to the top floor and didn't know who's room was who's the big room with the lab might have been Teuchi's but he spoiled his daughter to. He found uniforms ranging from civilian to standard ANBU, what got his attention was a familiar Dog mask and silver wig inspecting it remembering now he was shocked and filed it away and went to the lab.

He found a mortar and crusher, with a few plants under a heat lamp, he figured Foxtrot was syphoning power from somewhere. Then checked the actual lab itself like Sai predicted he had no idea what he was looking at anymore than he did in Tea. He did recognize the plants from a felid manual though. Poisons everything with recites from Yamanaka Flowers he sighed annoyingly at himself, others he had never saw before. The bastard was killing their Shinobi with shit he bought in Konoha, a thought entered his head. They would have a sales ledger for Shinobi buyers. "Inochi can you hear me?". He asked. "Roger". Inochi assured. "We have recites from your flower shop here, double back and get your ledger. Ino and your wife as well, there are plants here I've never seen before along with poisons you sell". He ordered. "Copy that". He assured. "ETA 5 minutes". Shikaku informed Konohamaru shrugged. "Copy that". He checked the bathroom and sighed nothing but toilet paper, and the shampoo was poplar in Konoha the shampoo didn't have a scent no perfume smell no nothing, a Shinobi could be clean and wouldn't smell like anything to gave them away.

He went back to the living room he noticed a cot with a pillow on it. He examined it no hair or anything. He highly doubted Foxtrot drooled in his sleep. He's conclusion was either Foxtrot was bold or, he slept with his coat and hood on the lack of a blanket and how cold the once welcoming place was backed it up. He heard foot steps and saw Shikaku. He looked at the map with wide eyes he approached. "You see what I see?". Udon asked he nodded as the turn to his friend. "Foxtrot took pictures of the Traitors Councillors our civilian shelters even high ranking ANBU and business men. He marked everyone's location on this map. We're even on it". He informed Konohamaru frowned at that Shikaku frowned more at the traitor part. "He's been watching us for a while, this photo here is from Ino's eighteenth birthday". He took the photo Udon noticed something grabbed it and threw it pushing Shikaku down. "DOWN". He shouted Konohamaru dived then nothing. They laid there till the picture sizzled and burned up then stopped.

They sighed annoyed Shikaku helped Udon up. "Thanks anyway". He said Udon shrugged. "Just don't touch anything else please". Shikaku nodded then his eyes widened the other photos and map started smoking. "FUCK". He shouted acting fast Udon took a camera out and snapped as many pictures as he could, especially the map before it burned away. "So smartest man In Konoha, any other bright ideas?". Konohamaru asked sarcastically he sighed embarrassed and touched his ear piece. "Hokage-Sama Konohamaru and Udon found a map and photos Foxtrot took, Udon took pictures of everything he could. I accidentally triggered a trap that burned everything up". He admitted feeling stupid right now. Not touching evidence is rule number one of investigating a scene. They heard Tsunade sigh on the radio.

"Copy that how exactly did that happen by the way?". She asked Shikaku sighed now. "I took one of the photos he had off the wall, it was of Ino's eighteenth birthday, this bastard has been watching us for at least three years". He informed they heard Tsunade swearing. "Anything else?". She asked angrily making him shiver. "There's disguises in one of the rooms everything from civilian to ANBU. Another Foxtrot mask and a Dog masks with a silver wig, it's the same one from Danzo's execution I'm sure of it". Konohamaru added Shikaku and Tsunade's eyes widened Shikaku turned to him. "I swear I'll be careful please show me this room sir". He asked politely and respectfully.

Konohamaru waved him over and showed him the room, Shikaku froze when the Yamanka's walked it. "Fucking bastard it was him, Tsunade Foxtrot was the Dog masked ANBU". Shikaku shouted walking out looking at shocked Yamanka's. "Konohamaru is in charge here, I already fucked up so listen to him". The Nara ordered the young man nodded in thanks, he could at least respect that he owed up to his mistake with out excuses. "Inochi the labs in there". Konohamaru informed he nodded. "I brought our books on herbs and other flora as well, see if we can make sense of those unknown ones". He informed. "Spectacular check everything out, and then meet us in the living". He ordered they nodded and went to work.

While he and Shikaku went back to see the uniforms. "If he's been infiltrating ANBU, he's bound to have ID's and eye witnesses". Shikaku hoped Konohamaru agreed. "Still though I'm surprised he left this much his base or not, I wouldn't put it passed him to keep anything of real value". Konohamaru responded the Nara agreed as they took photos of the uniforms, and searched around more. Finding nothing they met the Yamanka's in the living room. "So?". Konohamaru asked they sighed. "I checked those plants, the ones that aren't poisonous, they're used to make opium heroin, and cocaine nothing we sell to anyone". Ino started surprising everyone. "Foxtrot doesn't strike me as a junkie, what do you think?". He asked Ino thought about it. "People here do indulge in drugs, it's possible he was selling it, to who I don't know". They then looked at Inochi. "I went over our ledger sold those types of seeds to Anko, Hinata, Sakura, Yugao, Ebisu, you, Udon". Konohamaru gave Udon a raised eyebrow who shrugged.

"Sakura told me to study up on poisons, and Sensai used them back in the day. Now it's just a hobby yourself?". He asked Konohamaru nodded in understanding. "I was planning to poison Sasuke, then figured it was too quick". The elders flinched Ino and Udon shrugged. He then looked back at Inochi. "Anyway the only name that suck out to me is Aburame Shino". Ino informed getting to the point that got everyone's attention Ino sighed.

"My teammate only ever bought fully grown flowers or flower seeds. He doesn't need poisons because of his bugs, all that stopped after joining Root". She informed they nodded. "Who were the flowers for?". Inochi had to ask. "His bugs". She answered simply. "Well that's depressing". Udon commented everyone but Ino wanted to nod Konohamaru was the only one who did getting a glare from her.

"So where does this conclude us? I'm not betting on Shino being a traitor, so I'm putting it on identify theft". Shikaku stated Ino nodded in complete agreement. "An Aburame would be the easiest one to pretend to be, Sai told us if Shino's not on missions he's in Root HQ. Plus Karin did point out that Foxtrot has the same fancy for heavy jackets hoods and sunglasses the Aburame do". Udon chimed in his best friend nodded in agreement. "Still he'd need ID cards, and years ago we had a seal placed in the shop to cancel hinges. So he's disguising himself legitimately no Hinges or Genjustu's". Inochi informed Ino lowered her head a bit with her parents getting looks.

"I was picking on Naruto back at the academy, about how bad he was at being a Shinobi, especially with hinges. A few days later a blonde girl walked in and….". She chuckled a bit. "Long story short it was Naruto and he stank bombed the shop, told me if it was him that meant I was wrong about his skill as a shinobi or wrong about who pranked us". Shikaku grinned a bit missing the kid the other two continued frowning. "So he's doing this the old fashioned way, who sold to him?". Konohamaru asked they frowned sadly. "I was the one who sold him the poisons". Carrie informed they looked at her.

"His Identification card checked out, he even sounded like Shino complete with an emotionless frown. You can't even see his face on the ID card so asking him to remove his hood and glasses would have been redundant". She informed making the young men sigh with understanding. "Tsunade any news on the Inuzuka?". He asked when Tsume walked in. "Never mind". He said Tsume frowned and got started when they heard ticking all of a sudden then a ding. Green smoke exploded from the the vests and everyone ran out, their eyes were burning and they threw up. "For fuck sake". Konohamaru swear puking a with everyone else. "Was that a stink bamb?". Inochi asked they wanted to nod but couldn't stop. "Tsunade "blah"..,get medic uh…now we might have been poisoned". He ordered not but a second later Tsunade appeared with Shizune and a squad. They went green smelling the air. "Masks". Tsunade ordered they did as told and rushed everyone to the hospital.

Quarantine.

Everyone sat there while their worried friends and Sensai's waited outside. Sakura walked in tiredly. "The toxicology reports say you're all ok, smell like shit but nothing else". She informed everyone sighed in relief. "Really you're saying Foxtrot the guy whose last few bases exploded or caught on fire, who also specializes in poisonous gas just stink bambed us, like it was a prank?". Ino asked angrily Sakura nodded. "Killed the plants and erased his sent from the place". She informed Tsume was pissed. "Tenten found the contraption that set it off, said it had a seal on it she's not sure but in theory, believes it's triggered by dogs". Everyone sighed as Sakura pushed a button the sprinklers were released, making those in the quarantine, sigh and start scrubbing themselves.

Foxtrots Secondary Konoha Base. Jiraiya's Apartment.

Foxtrot was on his transistor radio listening in, he chuckled to himself. "Never put everything in one spot the old man always says". He thought to himself with a grin. "HOKAGE-SAMA". He heard someone shout in a panic. "What is it?". Tsunade asked clearly annoyed. "The Iwa ledger it's missing from Roots main safe. Along with everything else". He informed silence then a ton of destruction was heard and swearing making him grin. "The cocksucker, must of used his own base as a distraction FUCK". Konohamaru shouted Foxtrot chuckled. Udon sighed calmly confusing the assassin and everyone else. "I made copies of everything. You have to prepare for any situation". He informed the asssassin grinned when his ears stung with static pissing him off.

Quarantine area.

Udon used a small electrical jolt jutsu Tsunade's coat started smoking at the collar. Udon pulled a bug from it. "Now we know the bastard has been listening in and now he knows that we know". Udon informed everyone looked at each other. "We need to triple no quadruple security, I don't know how long it's gonna be till he tries again, but trust me the fucker will try again". Udon assured everyone nodded. "Why didn't you write down that we were being bugged we could've used it against him?". Shizune asked Udon sighed. "Because the fucker would fact check, and we couldn't tell everyone that we might be bugged one slip of the tongue and we'd be fucked". He assured his teammates sighed in agreement.
