And here it is. The start of the final episode. Enjoy it.
The Prophecy Comes True Part One:
(Jason's Point of View)
I pulled out my sword, pointing it towards Ares as he approached us.
"Don't you come a step closer!" Riya warned us once the god of war was about ten meters away.
Ares stopped right where he was, his face unchanged.
"You tricked us!" Phoebe shouted angrily.
"Seems you're smarter than you look, new kid," he mocked.
"Your plan failed, Ares," Cody said.
Ares burst out laughing. "Oh really? Is that what you think? You failed losers! You failed to return the bolt to Zeus. But what difference would it have made? He and Poseidon are waging war against each other. Just like all Olympians do!"
I burned with fury, wishing I could blast him with the power inside me. "How is this worthwhile? You start a war at the expense of the world itself! You're a mad man, Ares!".
Ares chuckled. "You're one to talk, touched child. You've drawn in dangers from your world so more battles are yet to arrive,".
Phoebe raised her blade. "Let's settle this, cousin. Man to Woman. Single combat,"
Ares scoffed like she had just told a bad joke. "What?".
"What?" Our mouths dropped.
"Are you insane?" Riya demanded. She was literally asking for a death wish.
"I challenge you, cousin," Phoebe dared on, unafraid of his imposing, intimidating presence. "But I set the terms. If I draw first blood, we keep the bolt and you surrender the helm,". Ares burst out laughing like a mad hatter. "Do you accept?".
He calmed down. "It's your funeral, kid. Not there's going to be one. If I draw first blood, I'll kill all of you,".
"I don't think so, Ares," I stepped up.
"This is between me and the new kid only, touched child. I'm not afraid of whatever magic trick you have up your sleeve,". The blue energy coursed through my veins as he spoke. My eyes burned again.
"Jason, you can't," Cody begged. "You could kill yourself,".
I clasped Phoebe's arm. "Don't do this," I begged.
"It's the only way, Jason. No matter what happens to me, you all keep going,". In her eyes, I saw fear. But her courage shined more.
Ares rolled his eyes. "As sweet as it is, watching you two talk together, I'd like to begin. If I win, I will kill all of you. Can't have any trace of any of you leaving a trace of my plan,".
"Except it wasn't your plan," I corrected. "It was Kronos. All this time. It was his idea to frame Poseidon's kid and steal Hades's helm and Zeus's bolt to start a war,".
"Our friend Luke was right before," Phoebe remembered our conversation. "See an opportunity to start a war, and you'll take it. That's what makes you easy prey for Kronos in your dreams."
As she spoke, I saw something twitch in Ares's eye. Nonetheless, he shrugged it off. "Gods don't dream, little lady,". He raised his voice. "And no one tells the god of war how to start a war! And you!". He pointed at me. "Once I finish her off, I'll take whatever power lies inside you and make it my own!".
"Except it's not yours! It's his!" Phoebe stood in her stance position. "My father blessed him because he was special. He is everything you are not!"
Ares fumed and held out his blade. "Say hi to your mummy for me,".
The duel began.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
Ares marched upon me, and I sprinted and swiped Riptide. He blocked it. He tried to swing at me. Quickly, I ducked and moved away. His next strike put me off balance, and my back hid the sand. I blocked his sword, then kicked him between the legs, giving me a chance to stand up. But slash! I was suddenly disarmed. He grabbed the rim of my shirt, threw me over his shoulder onto the sand and kicked me away.
"Phoebe!" Grover shouted. He and Jason tried to run forward, but Annabeth stopped them.
"She needs help," Jason begged, but his sister pulled him back to keep him out of harm's way.
"Wait!" she begged. "Just watch,". She had faith in me. Now, I had to have faith in myself. The seagulls' honks gave me strength.
Ares towered over me. "It's over, kid," he raised his blade. Quickly, I rolled away and kicked sand in his face. He burst out laughing again. "Did you think that would stop me?".
I curled up my fists. "I warned you." The water flowed under the sand. "If you're not careful, you'll find out who I am,". I could feel the foam spitting on my back, the wave coming in high. The rumbling was powerful, almighty and swoosh! Ares was washed across the sand like dead fish.
My friends cheered. They clapped. But it wasn't over. Ares was reaching for his sword. Riptide glowed gold in the sand. I swiped it up, dashed, ducked from a swing and Ahhh! Ares clutched his leg, blood dripping. I had won. His arrogance had cost him the duel, now it was his cause of humiliation.
My friends cheered louder. Grover rushed to me and hugged me tightly. Then Cody. Then Annabeth. Even Riya. And finally, Jason.
"And you thought you were just a kid." Those were the same words Annabeth had used before.
"I knew you could do it," Cody high-fived my palm.
"Are you okay?" Jason asked.
I shrugged. "Never been better,".
"Your father will be proud of you." Riya's words made me remember how the Nereid had told me how already proud he was of me before, of the person I had become. Had I become something more?
Our moment of victory was interrupted by slow clapping. "Yay!" Ares's mocks pulled up our frowns. "Five cheers for Poseidon's daughter,".
"It's over, Ares," Jason declared. "Phoebe won the duel, so you will return the Helm. And maybe, you'll remember this moment of failure the next time you wanna mess with any of us again,".
"You wanna know what you've won today? An enemy for life,". My defeated cousin's threats didn't scare me. At least not for now. "And don't think you'll ever stop being hunted all your life,". He glared again at Jason. "You will always be a danger to all demigods. Cause if they die, you'll have no one to blame but yourself,". He burned bright.
"Don't look at his true form!" Grover's screams were blocked out by the loud burst.
We ducked our heads. Flash! Thud! It was metallic. We turned our heads and saw that Ares had vanished. And in his place was a giant rusty helm. The Helm of Darkness. Annabeth walked over and picked it up.
"Now we just have to return the Helm to Hades, and she'll return your mother," Jason said.
"But how? We can't go back into the Underworld," Grover pointed out. His head shot up.
"What is it?" Riya asked.
"It's coming from over there." he knew which direction he was pointing at: The beach hut.
"That's my mother's beach hut." Light was emitted through the windows. With the others behind me, I sprinted as fast as possible and pushed the colourful glass-panelled doors open. Was my mother here? "Mum,".
All I heard were strange voices whispering into the air, talking of severe air delays. I realised it was from an active radio on a table in the far corner.
"I'm sorry, Phoebe," Grover said.
"Are you sure Hades is gonna return your mum once you return the helm?" Annabeth asked.
"He has to if he wants it back," I said. "I made a bargain, and he's going to keep it,".
"Do you think he might have imprisoned Pilius in his palace?" Cody wondered.
"Can't know for sure," I said. "But one thing's for sure. Chiron has to know everything,".
Right after I said it, I noticed Cody's head twitch a little, his eyes were over my shoulder. I turned around and saw that Jason was walking around the couches, spotting a wooden crib. He touched it gently.
"Jason," Annabeth's voice disturbed his thoughts.
"I don't know how to explain it but …". His silver eyes were full of deep buried emotion. "I feel I've been in this house before,".
"How is that possible?". I asked.
"I don't know. It just feels so familiar. And so does the beach,".
The radio was still playing, talking about drastic earthquakes. I switched it off.
(Jason's Point of View)
"Quite something, isn't it?" spoke a familiar voice I remember from more than a week ago. "Poseidon is using earthquakes to clear the skies. He grows bold in his war against his brother and king,". Alecto, in her human form, was standing in a doorway in front of a hallway.
Grover stayed close to Phoebe, remembering her from before. Still, she took the helm from Annabeth's hands and approached her attempted killer calmly. "This is why you hunted me before. Now, tell Hades to keep his end of the bargain,". She offered the helm.
"And another thing," I spoke up. "I want you to deliver a message to Hades from me as well,".
"Jase…" Annabeth hissed. "What are you doing?".
Alecto eyed me sinisterly, remembering how I fought her before. "What kind of message?".
"I have something I think he would like. And if he wants it, he's gonna do something in return aside from return Phoebe's mother,".
"Jason, just stop," Grover said.
Still, I ignored them. "What is that you want?". Alecto demanded. I led her down the hallway, making sure they weren't listening.
"I want your master to bring someone back from the dead,".
Alecto chuckled. "You really think he'll want to make a deal with you? After all the danger you brought to his palace?".
"He is afraid of Kronos returning, and that Helm and pitchfork isn't gonna be the only means of defence that he wants,". I knew I was right. "Even with his pitchfork, he wasn't quite a match for all those demigods combined together,".
"Tell me who it is you want him to bring back,".
I told Alecto my request. "If he wants what I have to offer him, he'll bring him to the borders of Camp Half Blood tomorrow,".
"You'd better keep your word. Cause it'll not be just you; he'll punish if you break it,". Alecto walked out the front door, and I returned to my friends, waiting with questioning looks.
"Jason, whatever it is that you've offered Hades, it's not worth it," Phoebe begged.
"I'm offering my sword so he'll keep his word and return your mother. And not just him," I said.
"What do you mean?" Annabeth asked.
"I can't say because I don't know for certain if it'll work. That's why I've let Alecto take the Helm but not my sword. Now there are more pressing matters at hand,".
"He's right," Phoebe agreed. "I have to take the bolt to Olympus,".
"No," Grover shook his head. "You can't,".
"I have to."
"We failed the quest. We've missed the deadline," Annabeth said sadly.
"No. We only fail if we give up," Cody said. "And besides, like Phoebe, this is much bigger than that. If she doesn't go, this will all have been for nothing,".
"She's right, guys," I said. "Chiron told me that a long time ago, the last war on Olympus triggered World War Two, and it didn't just affect our world, it affected everyone. It can't happen again,".
"Hades was frightened about the possibility of Kronos returning," Cody remembered.
"Getting the bolt to Zeus might be the only way to get his attention," Riya said.
"Fine. But you can't do this alone, Phoebe,". Grover beseeched.
That's why I'm coming with you," I spoke up.
"No!" everyone refused.
"I have to face Zeus".
"Jason, he tried to kill you before." Cody feared for my life. "If you come with him, he will never listen,".
"Zeus is never gonna let either of you leave Olympus alive," Annabeth struggled to hold back tears. "He'll kill you, Phoebe, because you're a forbidden child, and he'll kill you, Jason, because of the threat Pilius poses to everyone. He'll hold you responsible for it,".
"Or worse, he might torture for this power inside you," Cody cried a little.
Their love gave me strength. "I am done hiding." I had already faced the gods of war, blacksmith, the underworld and travellers. It was time I faced the King of the Gods and showed him that I had a place in this world. That he had no right to try and kill me just because I was different. His brother had blessed me for a reason, and it was time I showed him that he was right. "We have to try,".
There was no arguing. Even Phoebe could see there was no luck in changing my mind. I was not going to let her face this alone.
Suddenly, an echo of roars and howls rattled our ears. Instantly, Cody dashed outside, and there she was. The benevolent Tuastos and Akeda. He ran to them and threw his arms around the big bear's neck before the pampering wolf pinned him to the sand, licking his face. Then he saw me and pinned me to the sand, smothering my face with kisses.
"They're so happy to see us," Cody translated. The girls stroked Tuastos, and Grover affectionately scratched Akeda under the face.
Then came an ear-screeching neigh. We looked up, and a misty Pegasus landed before me. "Misty," I embraced her neck. "I've missed so much, girl,". I could feel her wings pulling me into a hug.
She brayed. " 'Chiron sent me'," Cody translated. " 'When you told him you were kidnapped, he sent me scouring all over America for you and then Poseidon guided me to all of you to help'".
"We do need your help, girl." I turned my head to Phoebe, and she nodded. "You guys go back to camp and warn my dad and Luke about Clarisse and Ares,".
"I should come with you," Riya insisted. "I promised Poseidon I would …,"
"You've already done that," Phoebe said. "Now we need you to get our friends safely back to camp. We have to do this for everyone,".
Annabeth, Cody and Grover exchanged glances and accepted our choices. "Here," Cody pulled off his wristband and offered it to me. "Keep you safe,". I took it. Akeda whined worriedly, and I gave him another affectionate scratch before he licked my face.
Annabeth unclipped her necklace and placed it around Phoebe's neck. "For luck. You're both gonna need it,".
"Just to clarify, why not send an email?" Grover asked.
"Where's the glory in that?" Phoebe challenged. She embraced her protector, and he hugged her back.
"Be careful," he begged.
"You know I will,".
Annabeth hugged me tightly. "Keep each other safe,".
"You know we will,". I hugged Cody. Grover implored me to take care of Phoebe, and I promised. I mounted Misty and pulled Phoebe behind me again. Her arms snaked around my waist, and she held on tight.
Misty fanned out her wings and took off to the sky. We stared down, watching our worried but faithful best friends disappear under the clouds.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
Misty's flight took us over the countryside to the streets of New York City. New York was so beautiful from above, but atop the Empire State Building, the sky brewed with clouds.
"Does Misty know where she's going?!" I cried out.
"I don't know!" Jason's answer was not encouraging. I clung on tighter. "Easy, girl! You've got this!".
Everything was so foggy I couldn't see Jason in front of me. Still, I couldn't feel him and Misty between my legs. We flew in a straight diagonal formation, higher and higher until light entered our eyes again. We were flying over an empire of Greek architecture, temples and villas. This was Mount Olympus.
"Olympus," Jason breathed.
"Where do you suppose Zeus could be?" I asked.
Misty snorted, pointing her head in a certain direction. We copied her line of vision and saw a round platform surrounded by fog. It was where Zeus dwelt. She flew to a clearing at the bottom of some stairs and perched carefully on the marble floor, the wind howling around us. It felt cold. I dismounted her first, then I helped Jason dismount her.
"You brave Pegasus." He stroked her snout. "Now rest. You have travelled far,". Misty sat on her fours and folded in her wings. As Jason stared up the stairs, I saw how pale he had become. We were about to face the god who had tried to kill him when he was little, all for the simple crime of being bestowed upon the honour of living amongst demigods.
"You don't have to do this,". If Zeus killed him for certain on my watch, I would never forgive myself.
"I have to do this, Phoebe. I can't spend the rest of my life hiding like this. Your father blessed me for a reason, and I'm not afraid to show it,".
I held out my hand. "Together?".
He clasped it. "Together,".
At a simultaneous pace, we marched up the one hundred stairs till we found ourselves on a round podium with twelve chairs of stone encircling the rim, the biggest one for Zeus right in front of us. But where was my uncle? It was very foggy above us. Surely we hadn't made a mistake.
We stared around, but when we turned back, we saw him sitting right there on his throne. His dark eyes glaring darkly at the both of us. I imagined him wearing a long white toga like in the legends I had read, but instead, he wore a simple dark suit like modern-day millionaires.
We had come this far. There was no turning back. I glanced at Jason again. He was scared, but he would not let fear control him. It was time. We stepped forward, and Zeus stood up from his throne, approaching us, slowly but sinisterly. I fished out the golden inactivated bolt from my bag. I offered it, hoping it would put us in his good graces.
"Here's how this is gonna go," Jason said without thinking. Zeus was angered by his choice of words. "We're gonna give you your bolt, and you're gonna listen to what we have to say,".
"And you're not gonna kill either of us," I added in, demonstrating my loyalty to him. "Cause what we have to say, you're gonna wanna hear,".
And that's the first part done. What did you all think? Phoebe defeating Ares and all that. And Jason facing the King of the Gods after he tried to kill him before ... will he leave Olympus alive? We'll have to wait and see this weekend. See you all soon.
