Hadley's POV
I was growing annoyed of this already but Eve was adamant that we do this as my due date was quickly catching up and given the war around us this was probably the only chance I was gonna get to have control of my fear of giving birth which is why I had agreed to be doing this in the shack Hayley and I had practically been living in for the past couple of months but I really didn't see how any of this was helping me at all.
"That's it" Eve coached as I practiced my breathing laying on the floor of the shack with Hayley for moral support given I was pretty much alone in this but this whole Lamaze breathing just seemed like bullshit to me. "Inhale and release"
"I guess this means no epidural, huh?" I asked since I didn't practically fancy doing this all natural, everything I've read these past eight months tell me childbirth is one of the worst pains imaginable and I don't care that you could argue that I knew the pain of turning into a wolf, I had no idea what this was gonna feel like and didn't fancy that viable. "You sure I can't do this thing in say...a hospital" I suggested. "You know the place with the doctors and the drugs?" Hayley chuckled next to me since she was supporting my back...from friends...to enemies...to frenemies...now birthing partner...what logic was that.
"Honey, the werewolves have been having babies out here since before you were born" Eve argued making me sigh and let my head hang back looking up at the ceiling since with that logic meant I was probably born out here. "Stop worrying, okay" I nodded even though that was harder said then done these days.
"Then what Eve, I don't even know what it's like to have a real mother let alone how to be one" I protested sitting up higher.
"Trust me, when the time comes you'll know exactly what to do" she replied and I rolled my eyes at her optimism since that one thing I always lacked, Mason had been the optimistic type to go with the flow of life which meant I missed him more than ever right now but I could only imagine the things he be saying about me getting into this mess in the first place.
"I hope so, as fun as it is to imagine Klaus changing dirty diapers, I'm pretty much on my own through this" I argued.
"I somehow doubt that" Eve argued right before there was a figure standing at the door and my eyes narrowed at Elijah.
"Pardon the interruption, I wonder if I might have a quick word with the conspirators of a supposed uprising" I turn and share a look with Hayley before she nods and we get up leading him to the barn where Jackson and Oliver were. "You're making a grave mistake" he warns them and I scoffed.
"So you're just worried about us, is that it?" Oliver snaps back making me smile since he was slowly growing on me.
"Look Elijah, we know all about your brother's reputation but if there is even a chance that these rings can help us take control of our curse-"
"Our gift-" Oliver argues cutting Jackson off.
"-then honestly, we don't care what he's really after, won't have to" Jackson went on ignoring Oliver's protest.
"I see, there are those in the Quarter who will consider this a great provocation"
"Apparently, most of them see us breathing the same way" Oliver argued once again glaring daggers at Elijah who just ignores him and turns to Hayley.
"You signed a pledge and you looked me in the eye as you did so"
"We don't want a fight Elijah, we just want a better life"
"Allegiance with my brother will guarantee you anything but that" he argues before we suddenly hear the sound of a motorbike approaching so we cut the argument short to go see who it is.
"What the hell?" Jackson protested as we went outside seeing a man on a motorbike riding into the encampment and stops as we approach him.
"Which one of you is in charge?" he asks looking around.
"Who's asking?" Jackson asks him but he smirks and Elijah is suddenly tackling him, just as the motorbike explodes and we're all thrown backwards by the blast, I look up before looking down at myself checking myself over placing my hands all over my bump trying to feel for any sign that the baby wasn't okay but luckily I'd landed on my back and everything seemed okay.
"Hadley, are you ok?" I hear Oliver ask over the ringing in my ears and I turn seeing him next to me given I had felt him grab me and try to shield me from the blast, I nod my head and get up seeing Hayley already up and running over to where where a little boy standing next to a severely injured man and immediately goes over to help.
"It's ok here, come here" I hear her say as I approach and she picks him up as Jackson comes over looking at me so I quickly nod that I'm okay before he turns to Hayley. "Oh god Jackson" she immediately hands the child to him. "Here, get him away from here" he nods and takes the child and walking away.
"Hayley, Hadley" we hear Elijah calling out and turn spotting him.
"Elijah" Hayley states as we go over to him and kneel down next to the injured man as Elijah lifts his shirt to find chemical and heat burns.
"Wolfsbane"
"It must have been in the gas tank" I suggested since it was the only logical explanation.
"You're the fastest, take him, anyone else who can't walk on their own" Hayley tells him but he hesitates looking at us in concern and for once I don't have anything to say about his concern considering we nearly just got blown up.
"It's ok Elijah were fine, they need your help" I nodded at the more injured people before Hayley and I stand and walk over to where Oliver leaving Elijah to help the injured seeing Oliver and Eve helping treat a werewolf who has been impaled with a tree branch.
"Just hang in there, ok?" Oliver says and looks like he's about to pull it out.
"Oliver, no" Hayley quickly warns him as he head over. "Oh god, press here" she instructs Eve and places her hands over the wound. "Give me your shirt" Oliver doesn't argue and takes off his shirt handing it to her and she uses the shirt to make a tourniquet. "Now, it's okay"
"How'd you learn how to do that?" Eve asked her as I smiled since that was kind of impressive.
"You get a hell of an education when you leave home at 13, that should slow the bleeding at least until the healing kicks in" we nod and stand as Oliver does watching him angrily pick up and throw a nearby trashcan in anger.
"Vampires, they don't even have the guts to do their own dirty work themselves, I mean why bother when you can just compel some poor son-of-a-bitch to do it for you?" I frown and look around at the damage. "I say we hit them back, hard" I roll my eyes and grab him and push him against a shack before he did something stupid.
"Stay here Oliver, we need you to look after everyone until we get back" I said then turned to Hayley sharing a look and she nodded knowing what we had to do.
"Where the hell are you going?" he asks us.
"If this was vampires, I'm pretty sure that I can guess who gave the order, we're gonna go find Marcel" Hayley backs me up as she grabs a tree branch from the ground and breaks it into a stake before we walk away leaving letting the anger get the better of us most likely but this was too far considering there was kids involved.
After getting to where I had stashed my car we drive across the river, where Marcel is currently living and on the way Hayley calls Elijah to assure him were okay and tells him to take care of the pack for us while we do this then hangs up on him making me smile I little as we drive our way into the quarter.
I parked outside of Marcel's vampires bar seeing all the boarded up windows and was half tempted to just rip them all down and watch them all burn but we barge instead leaving the door open as a way to protect us from the ones without daylight rings while we search for Marcel.
"You done got some nerve coming up in here, mama" we hear Diego's annoying voice and Hayley wastes no time knocking him over but he jumps back up and growls at her, Hayley quickly pushes him up against a wall and shoves a stake into his chest, just missing his heart.
"Someone attacked our pack in the bayou this morning and since I don't see any genius mastermind-types around here...why don't you just tell us where Marcel is and we can both get on with our day, huh?" I smirked at Hayley as Diego groans and fights against her. "You think I'm playing, there were families out there" she adds.
"He used to keep a place, 1917 Patterson...if he's still around, he'll be there" he finally tells us after a guilty look which I just glared at before Hayley rips the stake out of his chest and we leave having got the information we needed.
We got back in my car and I drove us to the other side of the city with Hayley looking at a map to guide me to the place near the docks before we got out and I figured we'd be stupid to walk in there alone so it was my turn to call a Mikaelson and pulled out my phone scrolling down my contact list quickly until I got to his name and pressed call putting it to my ear listening to it ring while Hayley and I stalked the outside of Marcel's place.
"Klaus, where are you?" I ask as soon as the receiver clicks over, whatever was goin on between us I hoped he cared enough to at least want to help for the sake of his child.
"His wrath burns against you, demon" I heard someone say making me frown.
"I'm in a bit of a situation here, love" Klaus finally speaks up.
"Somebody sent a suicide bomb out to the bayou this morning" I informed him.
"What, where are you?" he asked and I thought I almost heard a tone of actual concern in his voice which was most likely for the baby's sake.
"I'm in the city now with Hayley and I'm fine, I figured an attack like that must have been Marcel, he's hated the wolves for years and after that stunt he pulled with the witches...so I tracked him down thought you might like to help kick his ass for trying to blow us to kingdom come" I told him as Hayley and I approached the door that would lead us inside.
"Would you get him out of here now please...make sure he remembers nothing" I hear Klaus ask someone and my eyes widened at the fact that he had said please...was Klaus actually growing a human complex. "Hey listen I assure you once I am finished here you will have my undivided attention, in the meantime please stay out of trouble" jesus two pleases in one breath, he must be having an off day, I let out a sigh and looked down at my bump as I placed my hands on it.
"You don't have to worry, Elijah is with us" I lied before hanging up and looked at Hayley letting her know we were on our own but she nodded and headed to the door opening it with me following her.
"Come on in, have a seat" Marcel said before we'd even had a chance as he stood up from where he'd been sitting and my eyes narrowed for the fact it seemed like he'd been expecting us. "I'd offer you a drink, but..." he trails off and gestures to my baby bump.
"Sweet pad" Hayley commented.
"Oh, it's just temporary, friend hooked me up...believe it or not, I still got a few of those kicking around" I glared at him since I should've known Diego would squeal. "I need friends to keep me informed, to warn me when someone is coming looking to blame me for things that I didn't do" he smiles. "For the record, you didn't have to work Diego like that, you two and I are long overdue for a chat"
"You want to talk, talk" Hayley spoke up before I could say anything.
"Tough girl, you're a lot like your dad in that way" Marcel laughs while Hayley stares at him. "Oh yeah I knew him, I knew your whole family...in fact if you knew them like I did, you'd know just how many enemies they have, back in the nineties it was the Crescent wolves who took over the city or tried to, they lived to throw down and they were good at it too, they didn't care who they killed as long as they got more power"
"So the Crescent curse was your way of stopping them?" I scoffed bitterly. "How heroic"
"It was either that or kill them all and I'm not big on indiscriminant slaughter, see I have this thing about kids"
"So I've heard" Hayley scoffed at him while Marcel just smirks.
"Oh, you did more than hear about it Andrea Labonair" I turned towards him since he knew her real name. "You're living proof and you Hadley...I helped your mama get you to the safety of Mystic Falls" I glared at him since that wasn't safety, that had been hell.
"How long have you known who I am?" Hayley asks him in a mix of shock and anger.
"I saw how interested you were in those Crescents, after your little family reunion out at the old plantation house I started to put two and two together"
"Tell me something, Marcel...did you kill my parents?" she asked him and he looked down hesitating for a second to answer.
"There was infighting among the wolves, your folks were laying low somebody turned on them, I honestly don't know who I got there afterwards, found you in your crib"
"Give me one good reason why I should believe anything that you have to say" Hayley argued glaring at him.
"Believe whatever you want but you are the last Labonair, I mean could've been a lot of leverage for our side but instead I took you to Father Kieran" he replies before pulling out a duffel bag and places it on the table.
"What's that?" I asked him glaring at it.
"Money mostly, stuff you need to start over someplace safe" I scoffed and rolled my eyes that he honestly thought we'd run. "Whatever happened in the bayou, I'm not your guy but the way things are going eventually, I might have to be"
"So this is your grand plan?" I asked him bitterly. "Get me out of town and Klaus and Elijah follow closely behind?" I laughed at the audacity of that idea.
"I can't say that wouldn't be a positive side effect"
"So why don't you leave, follow your own advice?" Hayley asks him.
"I was born here, Hayley"
"So were we" I stated glaring at him before I turned on my heel heading for the door with Hayley following me since whatever we came here to do, it wasn't gonna change anything.
"Guy on the bike, the bomb?" Marcel calls out stopping us before we could leave. "Word is, he had a gambling problem owed money to the casinos...more importantly, to the humans who run them and when things get bad, remember, I tried to get you both clear of it again" I rolled my eyes and continued walking out and we headed back to the bayou.
"They are counting on our doubts, they are counting on our fears!" we heard Oliver yelling as we approached the camp seeing Elijah first.
"You stayed" Hayley said to him while I looked over and saw the wolves all gathered around a fire with Oliver looking like he was working them up.
"Come morning, they will know that we are not cowards"
"What's going on, what is he doing?" I asked confused.
"We are not afraid!"
"He's making a move for power in the wake of tragedy" Elijah replied making me frown. "He's not alone, there was another attack after you left"
"What?" Hayley and I both asked him in shock.
"Your friend Jackson will need your help, they will want vengeance, blood for blood and unfortunately in troubled times, people do not look for the best but rather the loudest" he stated before he told us where Jackson was then left us alone as we rushed into the shack, where Jackson is sitting with Eve's body lying motionless and I covered my mouth as Hayley and I walked to the bed knowing it was the worst...Eve was dead, we cry for the loss of our friend before Hayley kisses Eve's hand and we stand leaving the shack looking to where Oliver is continuing to rile up the rest of the wolves knowing this was not going to end with peace...not now.
"Look I know where I'm going, if any of you want to follow, hey that's up to you, that's up to you!" I frowned at the scene before turning to Hayley.
"Stay with Jackson, don't leave him alone right now" I told her before I started walking away.
"Where are you going?" she asked making me stop.
"To get us those rings, for our pack before we lose more wolves...more friends" I replied letting out a sigh as I slipped away unnoticed heading back towards my car getting in and drove back into the city pulling up in the alley behind the abattoir and got out walking into the courtyard.
What I had told Hayley was true, I was going to steamroll this deal with Klaus and get us this alliance before we had to bury any more dead but after today I once again felt an urge drawing me to the city and so I went up the stairs approaching his room but just as I reached the door I stopped feeling the presence behind me, I turned looking into his eyes before I moved forward wrapping my arms around his neck.
"What's the matter love?" he asked me but I didn't reply, the tears I had been building came up and I sobbed feeling the weight of everything that had happened today come crashing down and he was suddenly lifting me up so my legs wrapped around his waist walking into his room shutting the door behind us. "Tell me what's wrong, are you hurt?" I shook my head.
"There was more bombing, wolves are dead and Marcel revealed more about my past when Hayley and I went to see him...it's all too much" he walked over to his bed and set me down onto it before he tried stepping away but I held onto the collar of his shirt. "Help me forget it all"
"Hadley-"
"Please Klaus, just help me forget even for a few hours...I don't want to feel any of this" he locked eyes with me letting out a low growl which was more than sexy before he crashed his lips against mine giving into my request as I laid down moving up the bed while undoing the buttons on his shirt.
It was still wrong, I shouldn't feel this way about him but he had this power over me than at times like this I couldn't ignore...I didn't want to because it felt so right with him in these moments of stolen kisses and roaming hands, everything about him drew me in and I was incapable of resisting because I didn't want to...whatever this was I knew it was real, realer than anything I'd felt in my entire life and for a moment I had hope, hope that this was actually real and that he felt it to because whatever it was...whatever part of me that was drawn to Klaus Mikaelson...it was his and his alone.
