Hadley's POV
I was woken up by a gasp beside me so I sat up seeing Klaus was awake and gasping, his eyes wide and wild and to be honest he looked scared of something so I reached over cupping his cheeks which got his attention onto me.
"Hey" I called to him placing my hand on his shoulder as I sat up and he turned his head looking at me with wide eyes. "Klaus, what's wrong?" I asked but he didn't say anything, instead he just rolled over pushed his head against my chest laying us back down and practically wrapped his arms around me. "Klaus-" his lips fell onto mine shutting me up from questioning him and selfishly I didn't argue.
After he kissed me I knew he wasn't going to talk so I didn't pressure him knowing it was better to not piss him off so I let him lay on my chest until he was back asleep with me gently stroking his hair before I let out a sigh and looked towards the balcony window seeing it was still dark out so I decided to close my eyes and try to get some more sleep by letting the exhaustion take over and from listening to Klaus's steady breaths it lulled me back to sleep after only a couple of minutes.
By the time I awoke again the sun was shining in through the balcony windows and the bed beside me was empty and cold meaning Klaus has been gone for quite some time leaving me alone in his bed still naked with just the sheet covering me from our throws of passion last night so I got up gathering my clothes from last night which were laid out all over the floor from where they'd been thrown and dropped and quickly pulled them on before I made my way.
I had an idea where Klaus had run off to since the whole town was in mourning after Father Kieran had passed after being hexed and the wake was being held at Rousseau's and so I figured that was where Klaus had run off to given he had done everything he could to help the priest for that Cami chick that he had writing some stupid memoirs but I gathered that was over given she had broke free of his compulsion and knew about the supernatural.
On my way out of the Abattoir I texted Hayley to meet with me since we still had unfinished business with the bombing in which had happened in the bayou and killed Eve and after speaking with Marcel we knew exactly who we had to speak with next to get our revenge and threaten the bitch that if she ever went after the wolves again then she'd be dealing with us.
Hayley and I arrived at Rousseau's bar at the same time and headed in right as Cami went passed us, I frowned following her retreating figure before I turned to Hayley sharing a look when we spotted Francesca Correa, the woman we suspected was behind the bombings according to Marcel, she was the knew human faction leader.
"Not here Hayley" I whispered to her since there was too many eyes and ears to approach her here and as I scanned the crowd my eyes fell on Klaus and Elijah sitting in one of the booths so I headed over feeling it fair to warn them seeing as this treaty was falling apart by the day so I sat right now next to Klaus while Hayley took the space next to Elijah.
"I will warn you girls, Niklaus is in a spectacularly foul mood today" Elijah warned us as we sat down and I raised my eye at him before looking at Klaus as he looked at Elijah with narrowed eyes.
"Sod off" he said in a tired sort of voice which told me he must have not slept for long last night after he'd fallen back asleep or maybe he had pretended to fall back asleep.
"What's the deal with these moonlight rings?" Hayley demanded keeping her voice to a whisper as she looked around making sure no one was paying us any attention. "Oliver's trying to start a revolution every 5 seconds, people are scared...angry and frankly I'm tired of stalling" I frowned looking at her since maybe I shouldn't have left last night, Oliver seemed like he needed to be reminded whose Alpha and it definitely wasn't him since he is gonna get the wolves killed at this rate.
"It's a day of peace Hayley, try and enjoy it" Klaus argued with her. "In the meantime, with all manner of unknown enemies conspiring against our family, Hadley...you will move back in with us" I raised my eye when he turned towards me.
"Awesome, so you can do that thing where you lock me in the tower, I escape...there's drama and then you realize that I am very capable of looking after myself" I argued narrowing my eyes glaring at Klaus since I was not going to be the damsel in a tower.
"The rings are in progress I will live up to my word, we will find and punish whoever launched the attack on the bayou and you will return to the compound for your own safety" I rolled my eyes. "But right now I'm gonna finish this bottle and the next in the hopes of drowning the demon that has chosen today to haunt me" Klaus grabbed the bottle from the table and raised it in the air. "Cheers Mikael, impeccable freudian timing" he said before drinking straight out of the bottle and I frowned since I remembered Mikael from when Klaus killed him at the homecoming/wake that he had thrown just to kill the man.
"Elaborate" Elijah urges leaning forward while Hayley and I both look at Elijah and Klaus in concern since neither of them good looks on their faces. "Have you dreamt of our father?" Elijah goes on to ask Klaus.
"Go ahead, have a good laugh" Klaus glares at him.
"I can assure you there is no piece of this that I find even remotely amusing Niklaus, especially considering I've been dreaming of him too" Elijah admits and my eyes widen since that can't be good.
"What?"
"If you are also seeing him..." Elijah says before he stops mid-sentence and looks up making us follow his eyeline and see Genevieve as she enters Rousseau's and she catches his eye smiling. "Perhaps our elusive, unknown enemy is orchestrating a further attack?"
"Well then" Klaus smiles over towards her as well. "What better way to punctuate a day of peace than by kill someone?" he says as his smile widens as he waves at her.
Klaus and Elijah left after Genevieve left and I rolled my eyes when Klaus demanded that I returned to the compound which of course earned myself a look from Hayley but she didn't say anything thankfully as we sat and waited for Francesca to look like she was ready to leave since we still had our bone to pick with her but it seemed like we were in for a wait.
"Where'd you go last night?" Hayley finally seemed to get too curious for her own good and I frowned avoiding her eyes by looking anywhere else. "Jackson was worried about you"
"Well lucky for me, I don't have to report to my older half-brother" I protested when she just continued to stare at me awaiting my answer so I rolled my eyes. "I just decided to stay in the city, figured it'd be safer than the bayou until we figure out who bombed us"
"Where'd you stay?" she pressed.
"No offence Hayley, we're still not friends so I don't have to tell you anything" I spat glaring at her before I stood up seeing as Francesca was leaving. "Let's go" I told her as I started to leave with her getting up and following me as we left and headed for her house to wait for her arrival.
Hayley and I take a seat on Francesca's front porch, waiting until Francesca and her bodyguard return home which they finally do after about 10 minutes and when Francesca looks up and notices us as she forces a smile onto her face clearly trying to appear friendly.
"Ah Hayley, right?" she asked looking at Hayley clearly recognizing her from the treaty signing. "And your Hadley" she smiles turning towards me and I just frown. "I'm guessing you're not here because you want to make a new friend?"
"I don't count terrorists as friends" Hayley argues as we stand up.
"Wow I've been accused of everything from grand larceny to blackmail but 'terrorist' that's new!" she laughed looking at her bodyguard amused which just made me glare at her.
"A human pulled up to our home in the bayou on a motorcycle and blew himself up" I spat at her narrowing my eyes.
"I heard, awful" she states getting her keys from the bodyguard. "Goodnight" she adds then walks to the front door while the bodyguard reaches towards us to clearly remove us from the property so the moment he touched my hand I grabbed him kicked him in the groin before I hit his head into a stone flower pot knocking him out seeing Francesca turn in shock for a moment before smiling fakely.
"Word on the street is, he owed a hundred grand to the Palace Royale casino and then after he died, the debt was erased just like magic" Hayley spoke up.
"Jeff was a fixture at my roulette table, sometimes he was up, sometimes he was down, I absolved his family of the debt he owed out of the goodness of my heart" I scoffed glaring at her skeptically as Francesca shrugs. "Feel free to sniff around, my hands are clean and I'd advise you to mind your manners it's lucky you're both still alive, you're the ones the wolves all whisper about like royalty, if I was interested in hurting the wolves either one of you would be my target" she smiles as us. "And when I go after someone, I don't miss" she finished going into her house before I turn to Hayley sharing a look with her knowing we weren't gonna get anything else from her so we turned and left to head back to the bayou.
As we walked away from Francesca's house I felt a chill run through me despite it being a warmish night so I just pulled the jacket in which I was wearing tighter around me as Hayley and I walked back towards the compound where my car was and I didn't miss the look on Hayley's face as she noticed where my car was parked but she clearly refrained from commenting as we got in and returned to the bayou where I went straight into the shack and fell asleep on one of the cots.
The next morning we attended the funeral for Father Kieran then joined the procession walking down the street to the sounds of the jazz music being played walking behind the priests acting as pallbearers for Father Kieran and unwillingly really I was walking in-between Klaus and Hayley while she was between me and Elijah and although I wanted to be here I had woken up sick and was cursing that damn bayou shack since it wasn't exactly airtight and clearly I was catching a damn cold since I kept having coughing fits.
"You alright, you look-"
"A hundred months pregnant and pissed off at the world?" I spat cutting Klaus off seeing him watching me from the corner of his eyes.
"I was going to say you look lovely" he argues making me turn to him seeing his eyes looking sincere so I smiled softly at the compliment even though I didn't believe it for a second as my baby bump was huge these days.
"Do you think we were the target of those bombings?" Hayley suddenly asks making me turn away from Klaus seeing her looking ahead of us where Francesca was walking and wiping away tears which I could just tell were fake.
"Of course you were the target, were I to wage a war on the wolves you'd be my first kill" Klaus replied making me roll my eyes. "I would string you up, for all your worshippers to see" Hayley turns to glare at him.
"I believe that was my brother's way of telling you he'd like you both to return home with us" Elijah cut in looking at Hayley and myself. "Perhaps try a different approach Niklaus, with fewer references to murder?" I rolled my eyes since as if that was possible for Klaus to achieve.
"As much as I would hate to throw you over my shoulder and drag you kicking and screaming to the compound, we both know I will-" Klaus smiled as I turned to him. "-for the sake of my child" he quickly added and I frowned at the note 'my child' since I could count on one hand whenever he said it was our child, it was always as if I didn't matter in the end.
"One bad dream and suddenly, you want to be a responsible daddy!" Hayley snaps at him making me turn away from Klaus towards her raising my eye, I didn't need her to defend me especially since it just eggs Klaus on since he is suddenly wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me close.
"Let me put this into perspective: my father lived to torment me, it is not my intention to become him, this cycle of misery ends with my child" he whispered close to my ear making my frown deepen as I looked at him meeting his eyes before I grabbed his arm and pushed it off my shoulders.
"You forgot one thing in your little attempt to plead your case...she's not your child, she's ours" I spat at him before I walked away having enough of the Mikaelson's for the time being and towards the front I see Cami walking and figured that maybe she'd know something about Francesca given she's taken her uncles job, maybe she could help so I quickly ran to catch up with her.
"Cami!" she turned surprised to see me.
"Hadley, hi" she greeted sounding as surprised as she looked.
"Hi, I know you don't know me I just wanted to say that-" I stopped as I had to cough and quickly cleared my throat. "-I'm sorry about your Uncle, he was really...good to people like me during the storm and I really appreciated that" I figured I'd start friendly since I actually did mean that as I remembered Klaus taking me to the church during the storm caused by Davina and where father Kieran was taking care of the wolves and sheltering them.
"Thank you" she nodded before she frowned. "You want something, don't you?" she asked and my face fell a little since maybe this was a bad time for this but I had to try.
"I'm sorry about the timing...I was just wondering if before he died, he said anything weird about Francesca Correa?" I asked and her frown grew as we both looked over at the woman in question. "I think that she may have been involved in an attack in the bayou, if you hear anything-"
"Look Hadley, I'm trying...mostly failing to stay out of all this stuff but...she's a real bitch, so yeah if I hear anything, I'll let you know" she agrees as I smile and nod my head in appreciation.
"Thanks and again, sorry about your Uncle" I added smiling softly at her.
"Me, too" she nodded then headed off while I stopped letting her go, also because I lapsed into another coughing fit and this time it made me feel slightly dizzy so I moved out of the crowd and leant against a light post as I continued to cough before the next thing I know I taste the metallic taste before it sprays from my mouth into my hand and I stare horrified at the sight of the blood while continuing to cough.
"Klaus!" I hear someone yell right as I feel even dizzier.
"Hadley!" I then hear Klaus yell out right before I lose consciousness.
Third Person's POV
Klaus runs over to where he sees Hadley collapse and immediately picks her up in his arms as Elijah, Hayley, Genevieve and himself with Hadley in his arms rush to the compound where Elijah makes room for him to place her down on the table.
"I can help" Genevieve states.
"Don't you touch her" Elijah protests holding his arm out preventing the witch from getting near Hadley.
"Let her be Elijah, she was a nurse" Klaus argues looking up from Hadley's face towards Genevieve.
"There's a spell I can do, Klaus get chamomile from the pantry" Genevieve tells him and for a moment he is reluctant to leave Hadley's side but rushes off to do as she says knowing it's all he can do to help for the moment. "She's trembling, your jacket Elijah" she adds and Elijah doesn't waste any time removing his jacket and laying it over Hadley.
"What's happening to her?" Hayley asks standing worriedly beside the table.
"She's not breathing, I can hear the baby's heartbeat but not hers" Elijah informs them and they all share a worried look.
Hadley's POV
I gasped waking up feeling cold all over and immediately caressed my bump as I sat up and looked around taking note of my surroundings, it was quiet and cold and I was in the compound but it seemed...different and just as I was about to get off the table I heard footsteps approaching and turned seeing a man walking towards me and my eyes widened when I recognized him.
"Mikael" I all but whispered out in fear backing up off the table standing up to keep distance between us.
"Well yes and I suppose...we're family" he smiles towards me.
Third Person's POV
Genevieve is pressing a damp bundle of chamomile against Hadley's forehead and is chanting a spell but Hadley is still lying still and unmoving, her heartbeat still missing and her breaths still silent so Klaus who is frustrated and scared for the lives of the baby and Hadley bites into his wrist and dribbles it into Hadley's mouth in hopes that it will heal her.
"Come on!" he begs praying that she open her mouth or do something to intake the blood but she is still motionless and he looks at Elijah in fear.
"She's still not breathing" Elijah announces.
"It's not working!" Hayley yells out with tears in her eyes as she holds onto one of Hadley's hands while Klaus suddenly angry throws a table against the brick wall, shattering it into pieces.
Hadley's POV
"I assume my reputation precedes me" he continues as I back away from him in fear.
"This is a nightmare, I'm dreaming" I shook my head trying to shake myself out of this.
"On the contrary, my darling...this is very real" he states then vamp-speeds over and pulls me into a headlock, I grab his arm gasping his shock. "Welcome to my hell, stuck in an eternity of watching over that hideous creature my children call brother!"
"You're dead!" I exclaim since I watched Klaus kill him, he can't be here and neither could I. "How can I be here?" I ask before my eyes widen in realization...this is the Otherside and that must mean... "Oh my god, no!" I yell thrashing in his hold. "No, the baby!"
"The baby?" he asks laughing while I scream again. "That kid never had a chance and as if your bloodline isn't filth enough, you poison it by merging it with Klaus's!" he laughs manically. "The deathless vermin, fancying himself a daddy?" I feel my eyes turn lupine-gold and yell out as I push myself out of his grip and break his arm by twisting it behind his back before I pick up a coat rack and swing it at his head with all the force I could muster.
"She's not dead, I'm not dead!" I argue glaring at him. "If I was dead, you wouldn't be trying to kill me!"
Third Person's POV
Back in the land of the living, Elijah is pacing at Hadley's bedside as Genevieve continues to work her spell while Klaus and Hayley remain beside the table each of them holding a hand muttering their own silent prayers that this spell worked but as the time moved on Klaus became more desperate and moved forward to pick up Hadley.
"I'm taking her to a doctor" he states to justify his action.
"If you move her from here my spell will break, there won't be enough time to get her to a hospital" Genevieve protests stopping him from picking her up.
"Will the baby survive if delivered now?" Elijah suddenly asks and lunges for Hadley's body since he hadn't gone through all this trouble for Klaus's redemption to lose that baby now. "I'll rip it out of her myself!" Klaus blocks Elijah from touching Hadley.
"Hadley will bleed to death!"
"I won't lose that baby" Elijah argues.
"I won't lose either of them" Klaus demands glaring at his brother with lupine-gold eyes which makes Elijah's eyes widen at the ferocity his brother was showing in his protectiveness over both Hadley and the baby.
"Patri avec mwen, Coeur la sais patri avec mwen..." Genevieve gasps as she suddenly sees exactly what is causing this. "I know what to do, get my bag the gris-gris pouch...now!" Hayley races to do just that while Hadley continues to lay still on the table, as Genevieve dabs a wet cloth on her head.
Hadley's POV
"You're dead Mikael, your son already beat you!" I glared at him spitting the words out between my teeth.
"HE is NOT MY SON!" he yells in protest. "He's a scourge, a walking symbol of weakness!" I back away as he stalks towards me and kick at the banister to the staircase to break off a piece of wood to use as a stake and quickly back my way up the stairs as Mikael continues to stalk towards me menacingly.
"There is no saving that atrocity festering in your womb, Klaus will destroy it one way or another, better it dies now and you along with it!" he yells and then jumps up onto the second floor balcony, startling me as I spin to face him then I quickly jump down onto the first floor but Mikael jumps down to follow but I waste no time in spinning around rapidly and rush behind him wasting no amount of time by stabbing him in the heart with the stake from behind listening to him scream out in pain.
"My daughter has an advantage Klaus never had...she will never, ever know you" I spit at him before suddenly I feel myself getting pulled away from this hell and I awaken with a loud gasp on the table while Klaus right beside me in helping me sit up and rubs my shoulder affectionately.
"You're alright love, you're alright" he says before I meet his eyes.
"I saw him, he tried to kill me...I saw Mikael" I told them watching them all share a worried look
I went upstairs once I felt fine to stand and walk and immediately showered given I was covered in blood given I had coughed it up and Klaus has apparently tried to heal me with his blood so I showered and changed into some clothes that I had left here then sat on my bed recalling everything that happened, everything I saw and Mikael said since it all felt so real and it had been...I had been on the Otherside and I almost died which meant that I really wasn't safe and after a couple minutes I see Klaus approaches her room but he still stops and knocks before he fully entering which made me smile softly.
"You've proved quite resilient little wolf...fighters, both of you" he states as I look up at him.
"I guess we've had to be, especially lately" I replied before letting out a sigh. "I've decided that I'm going to move back in" I inform him since while nowhere was really safe, I was better here than out in the bayou clearly.
"Well, I'm relieved to hear it" Klaus replies.
"But no mouth-breathing bodyguards, no telling me what to do" I warn him and he smiles.
"All I ask is that the child is kept safe" he replies which just makes me frown.
"And what about me, what happens after she's born...if you try to take her away from me, I-"
"Come with me, hm?" he suddenly says cutting off my threat and I frown furrowing my brows as he heads out the door but stops when he sees I wasn't following him. "Please, I want to show you something" I keep the frown on my face as I reluctantly get up and follow Klaus to another door that is attached to my room before he opens it allowing me to walk in and my eyes widen as a smile replaces my frown when I see he has already set it up to be a nursery, complete with a crib, a basinet and a gorgeous mobile hanging from the ceiling, among other things. "Believe it or not Hadley, I would actually like you to be here...our daughter should be raised by her parents, in her family home" he adds as I walk in further taking it all in and touch the crystals hanging from the mobile above the crib.
"You, me, Elijah and the miracle-baby, all under one roof...sounds like a bad reality show" I replied unable to help myself from smiling over at him amazed that he had done this and that he actually wanted me to stay.
"Uh, you said you saw my father" he suddenly says chuckling almost nervously making my frown return.
"Why do you call him that, he's not your real dad" I protested.
"He's done damage only a father could do" he argues and I frown since I could agree with that after the damage I had undergone by my own father's rejection and hatred towards my existence. "What did he say to you?" he then asked and I paused for a second as I recalled everything Mikael had said before I looked at Klaus and smiled.
"Nothing true" I tell him and watch as he takes in my reply for a moment then genuinely smiles before leaving the room leaving me to have yet another look around and smile when I notice a painting of New Orleans, with a large full moon painted in the sky and knew just by looking at it that it was Klaus's work and it was beautiful making me smile and for once feel like this could work, that perhaps things would turn out alright between us whether it was just as a family or more and I was okay with that since our daughter would have everything she'll ever need right here.
I stood still in the nursery watching the party winding down from the balcony when I hear the footsteps behind me as they enter the room behind me and I smile a little knowing exactly who it was even though he had left a little while ago.
"If I died and someone threw a party, I would be so pissed" I smiled just to say something to break the silence.
"You almost did love" he replied walking closer until he was right behind me. "In a thousand years, I can't recall a time I felt so...frightened" he admits and my eyes furrow a little while I have nothing to say to that, that's not to say I didn't respond in other ways as even I could feel and hear the way my heartrate picked up at his words and he clearly took my silence as something else and I heard him turn to walk out.
"Klaus" I called to stop him and turned seeing that he had turning to look back at me as well and after a moment of hesitation knowing that this wasn't our usual pent up frustration or a way to forget our complicated lives I moved forward cupping his cheeks and kissed him passionately, this was me finally giving in because for the first time this didn't feel wrong. "I think I've fallen in love with you" I admitted as we pulled away and I felt his hands tighten on my waist.
"You can't love a monster like me Hadley" he argued right before the feeling of his hands was gone and when I opened my eyes he was gone making me frown since he had admitted to caring for me, I had admitted to caring about him and after all this time of us fooling around the moment I finally admit my true feelings he runs...god why is he so bloody frustrating.
