She had put up a good fight, but the Savage Land mutates were pretty strong, considering she didn't have her powers from Carol anymore.
They carried her out of the Citadel, and to what looked like a set of cages, the mutates inside appearing to have been there for a while.
Guessin' their choices were serve the new master or be locked up.
But it was the humans inside that caught her attention as she was dragged past them.
"Ka-Zar?" She called out.
"Rogue?" He spoke to her through the bars, surprised to see her.
"Why are you locked up? What's going on?" She asked before she was pushed to her knees in front of a large stone throne, and the cackling voice she heard made her look up, shocked at who she had been brought before.
"Well, well….if it isn't Rogue."
"Sauron." She uttered with disdain. "Thought you were gone for good."
"Hard to stay away when there is no one here to defend it. I thought you and Magneto abandoned this place years ago."
She raised a brow. "Felt like visitin'."
"Well, let me make something clear to you, Rogue."
Sauron snapped his fingers, and one of the mutates grabbed a handful of her hair, yanking her head back so she had no choice but to look up at him, gritting her teeth against the pain.
"Visitors are not allowed. Especially the likes of you. And now that Magneto isn't here to stop me, I'm not taking any chances."
The mutates who had hold of her dragged her towards a large, open hole in the ground. One that Erik had warned her about.
Garokk's pit.
"Sauron, let her go!" She could hear Ka-Zar yelling from his cage.
"Gladly. Once she gets close enough to the edge, I'll let Garokk deal with her."
Oh God, this isn't good.
She was struggling against the hold of the mutates as they dragged her closer to the pit.
"Let go of me!" She cried out, trying to get out of their grasp, feeling her gloves slipping.
If ah can get them off-
She was pushed towards the edge of the pit, and fell, face-first, down into the abyss, a scream leaving her lips.
Her back hit the bottom, and she rolled, one of her gloves coming completely off.
She heard movement behind her, and when she turned, her eyes widened as she was faced with Garokk, the stone-like demigod.
"So…..you have returned, Rogue. For what purpose?"
"Not sure yet….kinda got dropped here and been wingin' it ever since." She stood slowly, not sure whether Garokk planned to attack her.
"And now….you will face your end!"
Garokk appeared to try to emerge from his earthly prison, and she heard a voice that startled her.
"Take control, Legacy. You hold the power." The Siege spoke from the pendant around her neck.
What did that mean?
She dodged Garokk's arm as it came up out of the ground, trying to avoid him since she was without her invulnerability and flight.
"Take control!" The Siege was more insistent this time, making her wonder….
She looked down at her ungloved hand, and knew that if she had any shot of getting out of this pit, this might be the only way.
She reached out for his arm, grabbing on with both hands as it lifted into the air, and she was holding on for dear life.
Wait. Nothin' is happenin'. My absorption….
"Focus, Legacy…."
She focused on the skin that was touching his, and it was like flipping a switch, the power of Garokk flowing from his stone-like body into hers.
"No! No, what are you doing?" Garokk protested as she absorbed him, holding on.
She held on as he tried to shake her off of him like a bucking bronco, and she felt the surge of power flowing into her, a surge of power so immense that it reminded her of when she had absorbed Carol so long ago.
She could feel the memories and powers flowing through her, and she cried out as her eyes glowed white, and Garokk's life force was flowing through her.
The ground was shaking beneath Ka-Zar's feet, the cages rattling violently. The mutates all held on for dear life, the cries of surprise and panic almost drowned out by the quake.
"What is happening?!" Sauron screeched, his stone throne crumbling as he took flight, hovering above the shaking ground.
He watched in horror as a figure rose from the Garokk's pit, the ground beneath her allowing her to rise, and sealing Garokk underground, her eyes glowing white. She turned her gaze on Sauron, and spoke to him.
"What was that about lettin' Garokk deal with me?" She asked, just as Sauron, realizing that she had absorbed Garrok, tried to fly away.
But even he should have know that was futile.
Using Garokk's optic blasts, she was able to aim straight for Sauron, stunning him and knocking him out of the sky. He hit the ground with a thud, and when he tried to move, he felt a human foot on one of his wings. He looked up, and saw Legacy standing over him, a hand on her hip and a smirk on her face.
"Goin' somewhere?"
The locks came undone from the cages, and Ka-Zar and Shanna, along with the other mutates, were freed from their imprisonment.
They watched as the woman they knew as Rogue, having absorbed Garokk and Sauron, flew down to meet them.
"Thank you, my friend. It has been a long time since you have been back here." Ka-Zar commented.
Rogue nodded. "Wish I could stay, but ain't no tellin' what's goin' on back home. Have y'all heard anythin' from the outside world?"
Ka-Zar nodded. "The being known as Apocalypse….he has returned."
She swore quietly under her breath. "Ah should have known….ah gotta find Magneto and the X-Men…figure out how to stop him. He's probably gearin' up to create the Horsemen again."
Shanna and Ka-Zar shared a look, which Legacy caught.
"What? What's that look for?"
"I'm afraid it's a bit too late for that."
