Arrival – Chapter 1.3: Meeting Violently

[Dante]

Dante had quickly sped his way out of Elkins in a hurry to avoid being interrogated by those costumed…well, 'superheroes' was the only real was to describe them, and the weirdly named SWAT team. Besides, Dante couldn't find himself really being able to stick around that long in a town like Elkins regardless. Without anything like demons to slay there, it was just a quaint little town on the edge of boring. The Legendary Devil Hunter needed a bit more action in his life than finding out what Farmer Bob did last week.

Additionally, Dante had some run-ins with law enforcement that asked way too many questions before. They wouldn't believe demons existed either, at least until a demon tried to eat them. Sure, Dante could always prove a point by going into his devil trigger, but that would really only serve to put a target on his back by a bunch of trigger-happy cops.

Getting shot in the head really hurt, even if he could just heal away the damage.

All in all, this is what led Dante to be speeding down the highway with Elkins in his, figuratively speaking, rear-view mirror. Cavaliere didn't exactly come with the standard safety features of a regular motorcycle. But that also meant it didn't follow the same set of safety standards when it came to speed, either.

Currently, Dante was barreling down the highway at what would be clocked as 150 miles per hour and climbing. His reasoning for doing so was because of the Qliphoth signature that he was tracking. It was going on for miles, and he could feel himself getting closer to another bundled root nexus that was miles ahead.

Veering to the lane left of himself, the Legendary Devil Hunter quickly passed by a slower car and hit the throttle again, earning a demonic roar of Cavaliere's engine as flames spurted out from the exhaust pipes.

As for the car he passed, the small family of passengers watched the man with wide eyes, with the daughter in the back holding out her camera to record. Next to her was a younger brother who cheered at the cool vehicle and rider.

Back up ahead with Dante, the man felt a demonic presence emerging ahead on the highway in the form of a dark portal over a grouping of cars. Quickly, massive bat-like demons began bursting out of the portal before chasing after the cars below, filled with the delicious blood of humans inside. The dark-colored bats had long scorpion-like tails while their mouths emitted an infernal glow from the constant fire inside their bodies. These were known as hellbats.

Dante had to slightly smirk at this, "Wow, seems that you demons just love coming to me for an ass-kicking instead of the other way around." As the Legendary Devil Hunter said this, he held out his right hand and the massive blade of the Devil Sword Dante materialized within his hand a burst of flames.

"Alright, Cavvy! Let's kick it up a notch!" The man said as he patted the back of the devil arm with the flat of his blade. Dante earned a roar of the engine as Cavaliere popped a wheelie and sped up. "Oh, hell yeah!"

With a whoop, Dante quickly arrived to the grouping of cars before the hellbats and holstered his sword upon his back before deftly jumping to his feet and riding Cavaliere in a way that one might ride a surfboard. Pulling out Ebony and Ivory, Dante began shooting the hellbats as they came close.

This caused a few things to occur in reaction. First, the drivers of some of the vehicles near the man immediately tried to speed up and drive away from the man while he continued shooting at the hellbats, nailing headshots on the multitude of demons whenever he did. That was the one thing that Dante found annoying about these creatures. They were small fry, but tended to stick together in large groups.

For the other drivers, some were watching the spectacle in shock and awe while other passengers were busy recording the entire thing.

As that happened, Dante ended up passing by a police car hidden behind a highway billboard. The officer sitting in the car had to do a spit take of his coffee at any one of the multiple different laws that this man was flagrantly violating with his stunts. Then, he spotted the creatures the were all following this man, dying one after the other as they fell to the highway and then disappeared into puddles of darkness.

The officer immediately slammed on the accelerator, turned his sirens on, and pulled out his radio to call this in. "Copy, Dispatch! This is Officer Ramirez! I'm in hot pursuit of a man literally standing on the back of what looks like a tinkertech motorcycle firing pistols at a bunch of monster bats on Route 70 between Elida and Portales! Over!" Officer Ramirez called out while continuing to watch the man fight the demonic creatures.

Without warning, the bats began shooting fireballs out of their mouths at the man who managed to avoid the hits. Amazingly, to do this, he managed to continue balancing on the back of Cavaliere, and was even able to shift his weight on the devil arm to steer out of danger with barely any effort.

All the while, he continued firing those pistols of his without reloading, even if the magazines in them should've run out long ago.

"Copy, Officer Ramirez. Did you just say that a man's literally surfing a tinkertech motorcycle and killing giant monster bats? Over." The voice of a woman on the other end asked incredulously.

"Exactly what I'm saying! I have no idea what to do in this situation aside from following after and reporting this in. Over." Ramirez answered as he steered his car out of the way of a falling hellbat corpse.

"Copy that, Officer Ramirez. We're going to alert the nearby PRT division about probable cape activity. Are you able to describe the cape? Over." Dispatch replied.

"Copy, Dispatch. Suspect's male, white hair, long red coat, massive dark sword on his back as tall as him, black pants, and gray shirt. And- HOLY SHIT!" Ramirez screamed out as Dante stored Ebony and Ivory away before pulling out a pair of massive rocket launchers with large serrated bayonets attached under the front of the barrels. These were known as Kalina Ann.

Immediately after, Dante fired off the rocket launchers, one after the other, into the flying horde above, causing chunks of blood and gore to rain down on Ramirez's car with each successful hit. It was enough to force the officer to turn his wipers on. And he watched as the knockback of these weapons didn't cause any problem with the Legendary Devil Hunter.

"Officer Ramirez! What just happened? Over!" Dispatched frantically asked.

"T-This is Officer Ramirez. The man- he's definitely a cape. Pulled out a pair of massive rocket launchers from nowhere and started firing upon the monster bats. Over." Ramirez answered, barely believing his own eyes as he continued to watch this unfold.

"Holy shit." The woman on the radio said, unintentionally over the radio channel, "Officer Ramirez, if you feel comfortable with it, will you be able to continue maintaining visual contact with the cape until PRT is able to get to you? Over."

"Yeah, Dispatch. I can keep a visual. Fuck, I was not ready for something like this today." Ramirez replied, continuing to watch the red-clad demon slayer work as he stored those rocket launchers away and pulled out the handguns again to lay day a rapid-fire barrage once more.

Back with Dante, he was having the time of his life as he continued to shoot the shrinking cloud of hellbats while surfing on Cavaliere. He had taken notice of the highway patrol officer that was following from far back, not close enough to really get the attention of the hellbats, but not far enough to avoid the splatter they made on his vehicle.

"Hey, freaks! The officer behind you apparently wants you to pull over. Why don't I help him out?" Switching back to the twin Kalina Anns, Dante set the rear of both weapons down on the back of Cavalier with the barrels aimed towards the sky. "Lay down some hate, ladies!"

Pulling the triggers, a huge mass of rockets shot out of the twin weapons like a firework finale. All of these rockets quickly slammed into the hellbats, blowing them out of the sky. There were only about three of the creatures pitifully flying after Dante, vengeance in their blazing eyes for the deaths of the others in their flight. Stowing the twin weapons away, Dante pulled the massive sword from his back and then causally flipped the heavy blade in his hand until it was held in a reverse grip from behind himself.

Charging the blade with demonic power, it began to emit a red aura of energy that crackled. Dante then quickly slashed out three times, with each slash emitting a burning crescent of energy that sped through the air and sliced each of the hellbats in half.

With the annoying hellbats finally all killed, Dante took a moment to feel out the demonic presence of the Qliphoth. A huge number of demons don't just spawn like that unless there is something powerful that is letting them. A few moments later, Dante smirked as he pinpointed the area that the demonic presence was coming from. With little effort, Dante turned around until he spotted the bulbous mass of blood filled Qliphoth roots less than 500 meters away off the side of the road.

"Yeah, we're not stopping for you on this roadtrip, so…" Dante announced before pulling out the set of twin Kalina Anns and locked them onto each other by their barrels to form one massive tube. Charging demonic energy into the weapons, a red glow began to grow from the tip of this combined weapon. The Legendary Devil Hunter braced his feet on Cavaliere before finally firing off a white laser of energy that sped off through the air for a few moments until it hit the root mass in the distance.

Immediately, an explosion of roots and blood followed as the attack struck true. Soon after that, the nearby roots turned brittle and colorless before finally fading away into dust. This all earned a smile on Dante's face as he stowed the twin rocket launchers away and finally sat back down in the seat of Cavaliere.

That led to Dante looking back at the following patrol car before giving it a wave, much to Officer Ramirez's confusion.

"Sorry, officer, but we break for no one!" With a rev of Cavaliere's throttle, Dante zoomed forwards past all the cars on the highway and hit speeds of 160 and climbing once clear past them.

Ramirez picked up his radio once more, "Officer Ramirez speaking. Suspect just finished killing the rest of the monster bats, shot a literal laser from his rocket launchers, and then sped off down the highway at speeds that I'm definitely not matching. Holy hell, what did I just watch? Over." The man said with disbelief.

"Dispatch speaking. PRT says that they are preparing to intercept with cape assistance. Return back to HQ to report. Over." The woman over the radio said.

"Thank, God. Be there soon. Over."

So, if everyone has just been watching the video I just posted, this is the most ridiculous cape fight I've ever seen! Guy's riding a motorcycle like it's a surfboard while fighting monster bats with everything and the kitchen sink.

And then, just when you think it'll end there, guy pulls two massive rocket launchers from nowhere! And he's got laser beams! Did not expect to ever see this in New Mexico.

Hey! I know that guy! He was literally just here in Elkins fighting some massive monster! I was watching the entire thing from my apartment. Heroes and PRT were having a hard time against it and these other monsters. Then, this guy just bursts in out of nowhere riding a motorcycle, starts shooting monsters left and right.

Guy then launches that same motorcycle at the giant monster's face before throwing a pizza at it!

Yup it's the guy. Was watching that video on another thread. Guy goes in, starts beating the monster up with a bunch of weapons from nowhere. Makes quips while doing it.

He's a cartoon character. We just need him to drop an anvil.

He's probably one of the weirdest capes we've seen for a first outing. Guy doesn't wear a mask, yet no one knows who he is. Even more, no one can fully guess the guy's powerset. I think he's a tinker with all of those strange weapons.

And he can make them just disappear at will! That's so convenient. Wish I had whatever it is that he does.

Doubt that the name is actually going to stick. Unless he really doesn't care about public opinion.

What would he want to be called? He doesn't really do much besides fight some monsters and disappear. Considering that he seemed to just teleport away from Road Hazard and Red Light when they tried to ask him questions. Seems suspicious.

Don't know if the Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man is actually a tinker or not. Like, did you see the Elkins vid after he beat the giant monster? Somehow, the thing just turned into a giant explosive axe that he started using to blow up the plant bloodboil thing.

Holy shit! The guys on the news breaking a PRT road block!

End of Page. 1, 2

It had been a short while since Dante had killed all those hellbats on the road and destroyed that bundle of Qliphoth roots. Since then, the Legendary Devil Hunter had continued following the demonic trail of the roots that continued traveling east. At the same time, the red-clad demon slayer wondered how long it would be before he'd get to another town. While it was funny to taunt Grenadier with the pizza, it also left the man without any.

Hopefully, the upcoming town would have a good pizza place he could stop by. That, or an ice-cream place that made good sundae.

Yet, as the man ruminated in his thoughts of potential food, he almost didn't notice the rapidly approaching barricade of PRT vans and people dressed completely in that black armor. In their hands were nozzles to some weapon that were all trained on him. Slamming on Cavaliere's breaks, the devil arm skidded to a stop, leaving scorch marks burned into the road.

From this barricade of vans and people, a man strode out in gray hooded robes wearing a reflective silver mask. In his hand was a megaphone which he turned on, "Man on the motorcycle! Please, get off of it and surrender to PRT custody peacefully." The costumed figure requested calmly.

Dante poked a pinky into his ear, as if digging for wax, then pulled it out and leaned with the ear facing the man. "You know, I think I almost heard you say that I should get off Cavaliere?" He then rested both of his arms on the handlebars of the devil arm, "But that was probably me just hearing things. Sorry to say, buddy, but I've got places to be and I really don't have time to stay in police custody playing a game of 20 Questions."

"Please, just surrender peacefully, or else I will be forced to stop you." The man requested once more. All he received in turn was a rev from Cavaliere. The costumed man strode forwards with one hand held out, and for a moment, Dante felt what seemed to be a demonic presence gripping down on his clothes, attempting to pull him to the ground.

With a burst of demonic energy, the grip holding down his clothing broke, and the red-clad man straightened his jacket and rolled his shoulders.

At the same time that Dante was brushing off what he considered to barely be an attempt to stop him, the cape standing more than a hundred yards away from Dante was feeling complete shock. His name was New-Tons, while his power allowed him to change the weight of any non-living object in sight.

When he had attempted to utilize his power on the red-clad man, he had tried to bring down the man's clothes, sword, and motorcycle to the ground in order to incapacitate him. Instead, his power had only been able to grip the man's clothes. His motorcycle and sword completely ignored his ability, making his eyes go wide at the revelation.

Those items of his were alive. At least enough for his powers to classify them as living beings. And then there were his clothes, the one thing the cape's power had been able to affect. Somehow, his grip had been broken. That was impossible!

His grip wasn't a physical thing that could just be shaken off. Once he changed the weight of an object, it would stay that way until reverted back. And yet, this man just treated his power as an inconvenience.

"Alright, buddy! While the warning was fun and all, I've gotta go!" Dante shouted before revving his engine once more and taking right in front of New-Tons. Just as the hero was going to jump out of the way to avoid being run over, he didn't need to make any decision as Dante had made it for him.

With a wheelie and another rev, a massive gout of fire shot out of the exhaust power and the devil arm gained enough thrust to leap over the hero, the PRT officers, and the van barricade before landing safely on the other side and taking off once again. This was over twenty yards.

That… That was just impossible, New-Tons thought to himself.
