September 6th, 2003 1:45pm

Steve quickly parked close to the entrance door of the E.R since it was a Saturday afternoon. "I'll be right back." Then ran like as Carl was chasing him. At least her husband was fast from all those years her dad getting mad at him. It was probably not even a minute later he came out with a nurse with a wheelchair and he was rushing her. "See Sweetheart, told ya I would be right back." Steve said with a smile as he opened Laura's door.

"So we're having a baby? Well the labor and delivery has been informed and they are getting the labor room all ready for you. So lets get you up there Mommy to be." Said the nurse as Steve unbuckled Laura's seatbelt and helped her out of the car.

"It better be cause I'm not having my son in this parking lot..." Laura told the nurse as she screamed through another contraction. Steve bit his lip as Laura squeezed his hand, feeling like she was going to break it, mumbling incoherent words. The nurse pushed Laura into the hospital as fast as she could. Laura wish Steve would have taken over because that man would have been faster.

As they made it to the labor and delivery, Laura already had another contraction. Steve helped her up as did the labor and delivery nurse who took over. "So are you ready Mama?" Laura nodded as she quickly closed her eyes as another contraction came on, "Labor breathing Mama..." the nurse said calmly. As Laura just did that Steve looked dumbfounded.

"I asked her to do that earlier and I thought I was gonna die..." Steve slightly joked but was also serious.

"That's because your the one who knocked me up." Laura barley could say as she gritted her teeth.

"Sorry Daddy, but most of the time the dads are usually the ones in the firing range once the mom is in labor." The nurse explained to Steve. "Now Mama, once this contraction is over, I need you to change into that hospital gown. If you need help you have your wonderful man here that I am sure would love to help you. Once your done, just get into bed and press the call button. Your midwife, Julie just came out of delivering another baby right before you got here so she's going to come in and see how far we have to go before your little one will be here. Then we will get you hooked up and hopefully get you as comfortable as possible, okay?"

Laura let Steve help her because it was it was the least she could let him do since she was snapping at him. Once she was settled in the hospital bed, Laura looked over as Steve as he sat in the chair next to her, holding her hand. "Steve I am really sorry for getting upset with you." She had tears in her eyes as her lip quivered.

Steve scooted the chair closer to the bed and held her hand tighter as he grabbed her other one and held it just as tight. "No problemo my love, you don't have to be sorry for nothing my sweet soon to be baby momma. Your having our baby. I just got a little frustrated when you listened to the nurse over me and I shouldn't have. I'm the one who should be sorry. You're in a lot of pain and scared. And well I'm just your husband who got you pregnant..." He then gave her a warm smile. Steve leaned up and over and gave Laura a quick kiss on the lips.

Laura sighed and finally felt a tear roll down her cheek. "Steve, Babes, your more than just my husband who got me pregnant... You are my partner and best friend who has been my biggest supporter through this whole pregnancy. You have made this whole pregnancy less scary for me well until now, because we are actually becoming parents today. I'm also really excited too because I get to witness my husband become a daddy today."

Steve let go of one of her hands to wipe the few tears roll down her cheeks as she did the same with him. He stood up and pressed his forehead to hers. "Now you say ot out loud, we are going to be parents today. It is kinda scary but like you said also exciting. I get to witness out son being born and you become a mommy."

Laura chuckled as now she was a little calmer for these few minutes. "Yeah and you seeing our son being born, don't you dare faint on me Steve Urkel. I need you more than ever today."

"Duly noted love bug... I will try my best not to faint..." He said half joking as Laura gave him the side eye.

Just then Laura's midwife, Julie, and nurse came in. Steve stood up straight and continued to hold Laura hand ans his free hand began to play with her hair. "Well sounds like someone wants to cone two weeks earlier. Don't worry Mom and Dad, it is perfectly normal. We only worry before 37 weeks and after 42 weeks. Kelly here." The midwife pointed at the nurse, "She's going to hook you up to monitor keep track of your heart rate and blood preasure, then the wrap going around your belly is to monitor your contractions and baby's heartbeat. Now I'm gonna check to see how many centimeters you are and then go from there."

Laura and Steve both said okay as Laura was getting hooked up and her midwife checked her cervix. Steve kept taking deep breaths as he watched, Laura's warm smile at him was the only thing from him freaking out. "Well Laura, seems like its been almost an hour since your water broke right?" Laura and Steve both nodded at Julie. "Good because seems like things are moving along smoothly. You are already four centimeters. So baby boy could be here in maybe here in the next few hours, by tonight, or early tomorrow morning. But all really depends on baby boy. Just hang in there Mama, we will take good care of you."

Laura's eyes got big as reality set in this was going to be a very long Saturday. She sat back once the nurse and midwife were done and looked up at Steve with a sigh. Steve never left her side as they watched a little tv. After a little while Laura wanted to get up and walk around. Steve held her close as she walked around the room. "Steve?"

"Hmmm?" He looked at her with worried eyes as she looked at him with a warm smile.

"Can you put my mix labor cd in their cd player and just dance with me while have these contractions?" Laura could feel the next one coming on as she watched Steve nod and rushed ocer to her overnight bag. He pulled at the cd and slid over to the cd player making Laura laugh at his antics. He pushed play and went back over to Laura. He came up behind her, placing his hands on both sides of her pregnant belly and they just swayed to the music. He held her closer as the contraction hit, as Laura tried her best to breath through it clutching Steve's hands.

"How about just sing along with the lyrics, maybe that will help you through the contraction my doodle bug." Steve suggested giving Laura a hopeful look as she had her head laid on his shoulder.

Laura took a few breathes and then sang along to the best of her abilities to the song.

But I don't sweat it because it's just pathetic

And believe me y'all, he's worth it

So here's to the future 'cuz we got through the past

You so crazy, I think I wanna have your baby...

Steve chuckled, Laura finally feeling the contraction to settle she turned her head and look at her husband with a scowl look. "What?"

"Kinda too late, you are already having my baby..." He told with his big goofy grin displayed on his face.

"Yeah I am!" She said as she with a wink and leaned over and gave him a sweet, soft kiss on the lips. They swayed a little bit longer until Laura felt exhausted. As Steve was helping her back to the hospital bed, Carl and Harriette walked in.
