FINAL PART

SCENE 30 - BOSTON AIRPORT

Kovac and Lockhart are waiting for the plane that will take them to Boston, unaware that a few seats away, Carol is waiting for the same flight. Meanwhile, Abby is restless.
Abby:How much longer?
Kovac:Half an hour. – reading a newspaper
Abby:Did you talk to Ivana? Is Joe okay?
Kovac:We just left the house less than an hour ago. – still reading the newspaper – He's fine.

Abby crosses her legs, starts swinging her left leg over her right, and stares at her husband.
Kovac:What? – without stopping reading the newspaper
Abby:Ehr... This might be a bit awkward.
Kovac:Go ahead. – puts the newspaper aside – What's up?
Abby:Well, Kerry's going to ask some questions about what we've been doing since we left County...
Kovac:Right.
Abby:And what if she asks why we left the city?
Luka puts the newspaper aside and rubs the space between his eyes...

Abby:Like... I didn't want to bring this up, but...
Kovac:Okay.
Abby:So much went wrong...

At that moment, Doug comes out of the bathroom and heads to a vending machine near the Kovacs.
Kovac:We can say it was because of Pratt. A change of scenery.
Abby:No, Luka. I'm not going to use Greg to tell a lie.
Kovac:Alright. – realizing he messed up – My bad. I spoke without thinking.
Abby:It happens...

In the background, the vending machine doesn't accept Doug's bill.
Abby:But seriously, we need an answer that we both agree on.
Kovac:Look... This isn't a lie: after my father's death, I wanted a change of scenery.
Abby:Okay...
Kovac:Then you came with me, and now we're leaders in Massachusetts.
Abby:That works.
Luka raises his right hand and shows his palm to his wife:
Kovac:High five.
Lockhart is confused... but decides to humor her husband's high five.
Abby:What the hell was that? – laughing
Kovac:I don't know... – laughing while picking up the newspaper – Thought it'd be cool.
Abby:You're too old to say "cool."

In the background, Doug gives up on the vending machine and approaches the couple.
Doug:Excuse me...
Kovac & Abby:Yes. – both look back
Doug:I'm trying to get a soda... but the machine won't take my bill. Do you have a $5 bill to exchange?
Kovac:Sure.

The croatian looks for a $5 bill in his bag. Doug thanks Kovac with a discreet nod, while Abby can't take her eyes off Doug.
Kovac:Here you go. – handing over the bill
Doug:Thank you.

Ross gives his bill to Kovac, and when he locks eyes with Abby, he feels uncomfortable for a split second. In that same moment, she blushes and looks away.

As Doug walks back to the vending machine, Lockhart catches her breath. Kovac notices his wife acting strangely.
Kovac:Everything okay?
Abby:Everything's fine. – taking a deep breath

Ross grabs his sodas, waves at the Kovacs, and heads back to his wife. Still reading the newspaper, Luka doesn't notice that Abby is still checking Doug out from head to toe.

Doug sits next to his wife and opens the soda can.
Carol:Didn't you just go to the bathroom?
Doug:Carol... Let me explain how the human body works...

On the other side of the terminal, Abby, who watched Doug walk back to his seat, is now certain she recognizes the woman sitting next to him. She nudges her husband.
Abby:Luka.
Kovac:Hi. – still reading the newspaper
Abby:That woman over there... – notices he's still reading the newspaper – What the hell are you reading that's so interesting? – ironic
Kovac:What? – still reading
Abby:Look at me when I'm talking to you!
Luka folds the newspaper and looks his wife in the eyes.
Kovac:Better?
Abby:Thank you. Ehr... – discreetly pointing at the Hathaways – That guy with the soda... See the woman with him?
Carol has her back turned... Only her hair is visible, and it's not even curly like it used to be.
Abby:I think I know her from somewhere.
Kovac:From Joe's school?
Abby:No... I think...
Hathaway turns her head for a few seconds, and the couple can see her profile.
Kovac:Is that Carol? From County?
Abby:I think so...
Kovac:Grab your stuff.

Doug:Do you think Haleh is still there?
Carol:Definitely...
Kovac:Carol?

A little further back, the Kovac couple is standing with their carry-on luggage. When Carol turns her head, she confirms it's her... and even returns the encounter with a smile:
Carol:Oh, my Goooood – very happy
The nurse stands up and gives Luka a tight hug. Abby finds the reaction a bit strange... Then she receives a hug from Carol. Meanwhile, Doug, who remains seated, turns around to try to understand the situation...

SCENE 31 - ER

A group of nurses is near Weaver in the reception area, chatting about the past few years. Meanwhile, she tries to guide the cameramen on where to position themselves. Being a Saturday morning, the ER isn't too busy... But Banfield isn't happy.
Banfield:I don't like this. – erasing names from the patient board
Weaver:It won't take long, I promise. – not even looking at Cate
The ER chief storms off, stomping her feet.

Daw:Yeah, but what about the salary?
Weaver smiles awkwardly. The nurses in the circle hiss.
Daw:I'm serious. You don't even have to say the amount: does it pay more than here?
Weaver:Well...
Haleh:Honey, that doesn't matter. Kerry, are you happy? – grabbing a patient chart
Weaver:I'm great. – smiling
Haleh:That's what matters.
Haleh hugs her colleague and leaves to work.
Daw:You guys have no sense of humor...
Chunny:Do you have openings for Latinas?
Weaver:What do you mean? – laughing
Chunny:I don't know. Maybe I can rock it as a weather girl with a big cleavage.
Everyone laughs hard.

But Simon arrives...
Brenner:Daw, can you help Dr. Martin with a laceration in Room III?
Daw:Ehr... Yes, Dr. Brenner. – leaving – See you later, Dr. Weaver.
Weaver:See you...
Chunny:Look, I need to find something to do, or Banfield will eat me alive.
Weaver:Seriously, you're that scared of her? – ironic
Chunny:Dr. Weaver... – grabbing a medical chart – Compared to you, she's nothing... But she's still the boss.

Kerry smiles. Now in the reception area, only Simon is near her.
Brenner:Excuse me... Dr. Weaver, right?
Weaver:You can call me Kerry. – shaking his hand
Brenner:Okay, Kerry Weaver... – greeting her – Today's the documentary with staff from your time, isn't it?
Weaver:Well... saying it like that makes me feel old.
Brenner:No... – smiling awkwardly – It's just... did you know Neela Rasgotra?
Weaver:Yes. For a few years.
Brenner:And is she coming? – hopeful
Weaver:No... Unfortunately not. I didn't even get to invite her.
Brenner:Oh...
The triage door alarm beeps. A new patient is arriving, and Simon slips away to receive them.

Still in the reception area, Kerry sees Sam arriving and putting some charts in place. The two smile at each other... and Weaver approaches while Taggart accesses the reception computer.
Weaver:Nice ring.
Sam:Oh, this? – showing the ring on her finger – It's cute. – happy
Weaver:I'm happy for you.
Sam:Thank you.
Weaver:Although I think you could've done better than Gates.
The two look at each other... and smile.

SCENE 32 - DOCTOR'S LOUNGE

John is organizing his things in the locker. He just finished his shift. Gates is making coffee, and Morris is sprawled on the couch, resting.
Gates:Johnny boy.
Carter:Ehr... Yes, Gates?
Gates:This whole documentary thing... Just to clarify... I'm not in it, right?
Carter:What? - paying more attention
Gates:Dr. Weaver said she'd be filming with former colleagues... But I wasn't invited. And I'm on shift during the filming.
Carter:Well...
Morris:Wait, wait, wait! - getting up from the couch - What's the story here?
Gates:What?
Morris:I didn't get an invite either... and I'm working until tomorrow.
Carter:Well... I thought you'd have figured it out by now.
Morris:But... No! I worked with Dr. Weaver for like three years! And I wore makeup!
Gates:You what?
Morris:My freckles don't look good on video - tilting his nose - I put on a little powder, and I look great.
Carter:You do look really good, Morris. - smiling and heading toward the exit
Morris:Carter, can you talk to Weaver for me?
Carter:What? - stopping at the door
Morris:Ask her if I'm in the filming...
Carter:Ehr...
Morris:If anything, just say I set the tone.
Carter and Gates stare at Morris, who's being smug. Meanwhile, Tony makes a big pout...

SCENE 33 - BOSTON AIRPORT

Luka and Carol are having an excited conversation. Abby and Doug feel a bit left out.
Kovac:I was sure Tess would be smarter than Kate.
Carol:Are you calling Kate dumb? - laughing
Kovac:No! - smiling - It's just that Tess is more cunning... more of a leader than her sister.
Carol:There's no way you could know that. - hitting him with the newspaper - You only saw them as babies.

Not wanting to stay quiet the whole time, Lockhart and Ross decide to introduce themselves. Even if ironically.
Doug:Doug Ross. - shaking hands
Abby:Abby Lockhart.

Carol:Ow... Sorry about that. - looking at the other two - We were just catching up.
Abby:It's fine. - smiling
Carol:And Abby, you look great.
Abby:Thank you so much...
Carol:See, Luka? Didn't I tell you you'd find someone?

Doug:Ehr... Wait a minute.
Luka and Carol turn to Doug.
Doug:Buddy... were you the guy who got with my wife?
Kovac:Ehr... What? - awkwardly smiling
Doug:When I went to Seattle, and she stayed behind.
Kovac:Ehr...
Carol:Doug... - embarrassed
Doug:It's fine. She told me.
Kovac:Ow...
Doug:She didn't tell me it was a 6'4" guy from Eastern Europe, but it's fine.
Kovac:Look, I'm sorry... - placing his hands on his own chest - It was a different phase of my life. I'd never do it again...
Doug:Relax. I was away anyway.

Abby and Carol just watch the two talking.

Doug:Now... she was pregnant with twins, right?

The croatian is left speechless, Carol turns red, and Abby is... actually kind of amused.
Doug:That was wrong.
Kovac:I'm sorry...
Doug:Well, if you got with my wife, I guess I'll have to get with yours.
Abby:It's fine.

All three stare at Lockhart. Especially Doug, who awkwardly smiles while scratching the back of his neck.
Doug:Ehr... I was just joking...
Abby:Ow... I... I was too. - very embarrassed

The airport's PA system announces that passengers for the Chicago flight should board soon. Everyone grabs their luggage, and Doug approaches Kovac in a friendly manner.
Doug:Carol told me about a guy who helped her while I was away... - extending his hand - Thank you so much...
Kovac:Of course... Now, are we heading to County?
Doug:Absolutely.
The two men walk ahead...
Doug:Tell me something... how did you manage to work with Weaver for so long?

The two women stay behind...
Abby:Men.
Carol:So, you're into my husband...
Abby:No!
Carol:Relax. - smiling - You're way too tense, Abby.
Abby:I just... don't do well in awkward situations.
Carol:It's fine... Ehr... Do you have kids?
Abby:One. Joe.
Carol:That's nice.
Abby:Any others besides the twins?

And the two continue chatting as they head to the plane...

SCENE 34 - MULTIPLE SHOTS

(serene soundtrack, scenes in slow motion)

Everyone is heading to County, ready for the recordings...

Elizabeth is alone in her row, looking out the window as she flies over the US.

Susan tries to stay calm and patient, while looking up and thinking about her luck as two overweight passengers use her shoulder to take a nap.

Benton and Cleo argue once again... and he leaves the house without her.

Jeanie Boulet drives her car to County.

On the plane that departed from Boston, some seats were swapped. Doug made sure to sit next to Luka as they share stories about County, gesturing and laughing a lot, while Abby and Carol exchange stories about their lives, also very animated.

Carter is adjusting his tie and is helped by Weaver. The two smile... Morris watches them from afar, dying of envy. Until Weaver nods, signaling for him to approach. And she puts a smile on Morris's face as she starts fixing his tie.

And little by little, everyone arrives at County.

Jeanie Boulet is the first to arrive. She is greeted with a strong hug from Weaver, Haleh, and Carter...

Peter arrives shortly after. He arrives in his usual serious manner, but after seeing who is there, he breaks into a big smile. He kisses Boulet on the cheek and has to "defend" himself from the fake boxing punches Carter pretends to throw at him...

Two taxis arrive almost simultaneously. One of them was shared by the Rosses and the Kovacs. The other was Corday's. As soon as she is seen getting out of the car, Luka and Abby head her way to hug her. Carol and Doug do the same. A bit shyly. But the three end up smiling. Hathaway and Corday hug tightly, then Doug gives a long, loud kiss on the colleague's cheek. He whispers something in her ear. Lizzie then grabs Doug's mother and shakes her head, confirming whatever he said. Then everyone grabs their luggage and heads to the ER.

The place is getting more and more crowded... and happier. Except for Banfield, who doesn't like any of the chaos in the place.

Morris runs to hug Luka and Abby. Carter, very happy, walks over to Doug and Carol. Everyone hugs. Apologizing for the "ignored," Carter shakes Kovac's hand and gives Abby a playful punch on the shoulder. Then, they all three laugh and have a warm hug.

Benton and Luka nod timidly, while the surgeon, accompanied by Jeanie, goes to see Doug and Carol. Then, his eyes light up when he sees Corday.

In the background, Weaver watches the reunion with happiness. It's then that Susan arrives doing a victory dance. She knows almost everyone there and it's all smiles. But she makes sure to find Kerry and gestures to say she doesn't need to worry, as she hasn't had anything to drink. But that doesn't stop her from jumping on Doug's back and then being hugged by Susan.

Shortly after, coming out of a trauma, Sam joins the group, which is pure joy.

The same goes for Jerry, the other nurses...

And before starting the recording, Weaver tries to organize everyone to fit into a personal photo.

She hands the camera to Daria, who ends up taking the photo of the best reunion a group of colleagues could ever have...
