Ch. 122: NIP vs. HAJ part 3
The president of the HAJ sat at her desk, full of confidence and excitement. It had been a while since she felt this way; she couldn't even remember the last time she felt so giddy. Soon, her plane would become a full success, and she would have far more resources to use as she pleased. She had so many ideas but no way of knowing which one to do first. N.I.P would fall, and she would look like the good guy at the end of the day with all the fake media she would spread about the facility after it fell.
Unfortunately, this wouldn't come to pass, as several dozens of black, smoky portals opened up around the base of the HAJ tower! Security guards were taken off…guard by this and couldn't make heads or tails. Suddenly, dozens of robots poured out and began to flood the building in a tide that almost never ended! Security was utterly overwhelmed and overtaken in seconds! As the building filled with robots, people began to scream and run in fear, yet the robots were merciless!
Anyone who fought against them was killed on the spot, while anyone who ran or hid was apprehended non-leathally. The president was stunned by this sight and knew right away that her plan had failed. She was found out, and N.I.P. was striking back! For now, she had to escape to the roof where her emergency helicopter was. However, she heard an explosion from above her, and her assistant ran into her office and slammed the door shut while locking it!
Had the robots ascended the tower so fast that she was trapped from all angles? It must have been those portals; that was the only explanation. Before she could rise from her chair, her door was broken down, and dozens of robots marched in! Her assistant took out a gun to defend her, but the robot reduced her to Swiss cheese in seconds. Soon, she was surrounded by cold, dead, red metal eyes and high-tech guns pointed at her. Seeing no other option, she sat and waited for her end.
Suddenly, a new portal opened right in her office, and a tall man with sandy blonde hair, thick glasses, and a casual scientist outfit walked in. He pulled on his coat to straighten it out and walked before her with a smug grimace, purposefully looking down on her. This was definitely Professor Egon, the man she was most likely shopping to kill during her attack.
Egon smiled at the old woman sitting and glaring at him from her oversized chair where he said, "So you must be the president of the Heroes Association of Japan. It's nice to meet you finally."
"And you must be Professor Egon.", the president said back.
Egon did a mock bow and replied, "In the flesh. Tell me, how exactly did you expect your little invasion of my facility to go down? Did you think we would roll over and die? That-what happened with the Yakuza- would happen with you, but better?", the president said nothing, so he continued to gloat and tell her, "The only reason it happened is because Overhaul turned into that monster at the last minute. If not for that, our first facility would still be in use.", still she said nothing, so Egon continued saying with a knowing yet inquisitive look, "But you know, when Nagat told me about your plan, it got me wondering. Why would you want to do this? She told me it's because you saw us as a threat that would eventually become too big and too powerful to ignore. But I think it's something else.", he told her with a sly expression, looking over his shoulder as he paced back and forth in front of her.
The president gripped her chair a bit tighter as she tried to control her anger, saying, "So Lady Nagat survived."
Egon smiled at her from the side and commented with glee, "She's a real tough one. Next time you want someone gone. Do it the old-fashioned way.", this time the president glared at him, her lower lip quivering with rage at being told to do something old fashioned. "Anyhow, back to what we were saying. You don't consider us a threat to the public, just yourselves. You see our instant success and waves of money and feel your egos and pockets grow a lot more empty. You wanted what we have and were willing to do anything to get it! Once you did, you'd use it to get even more money to line your black hole of a pocket and soul. But you weren't going to stop there. Oh no, no, no. You would become more corrupt with such untapped power until you overthrow the government and have Japan be used as your full source of income. Making heroes and villains alike and controlling the flow of cash to fill your vaults continually. Then you probably do the same with the rest of the world; that's usually how these things snowball.", Egon ranted.
Hearing this, the president calmed down, clasped her hands across her legs, and admitted, "Bravo, Professor. I guess you figured me out."
"But that's not it either, is it? There is something else, Chi Tashigi, in possession of the quirk: Authority. Or should I say…" Egon drew out for suspense before saying in a soft tone, "Quirkless?" causing her pupils to dilate and her body to quiver, making Egon smile and say, "There it is."
"How'd you know?", the president asked in a dangerous tone.
Egon tapped his nose and told her with a smirk, "I've got dirt and a lot of people, just in case.", the president gripped her hands tighter and gritted her teeth, trying not to show her anger but failing to hide it from Egons eye, who continued to explain, "Now, you don't have to bore me with your long-winded and sorrowful backstory; I know it all. You were around during the tail end of the quirk war, the worst part of it. The Quirks were pushing back against the quirkless and slaughtered them by the hundreds of millions. You saw the carnage, the death, and then you saw them make peace as if all the slaughter was for nothing. You hated quirked people. You hated them so much that when the heroes association was founded, you clawed your way to the top so you could take your revenge and have your retribution."
The president was red in the face, looking ready to jump over her desk and attack him, but he didnt. Instead, she sat there, her anger on full display, and she did not keep hold of the mask as she snapped with a hiss, "Looks like you figured me out. Happy?"
"You know, there's this little thing called therapy. It's been in use for longer than you've been alive," he said in a bored tone, leaning over her desk to mock her, making the woman sneer at him.
But her sneer shifted, and a cruel smile crossed her jowled lips. She stated, with a face full of beaming pride and insanity, "It doesn't matter. I've won. I've ruined the image of heroes forever and ruined so many lives! You can't undo what I've done. I have gotten my retribution."
"If you think that, then you're dead wrong.", Egon shot back while rolling his eyes, making the woman baffled by the reaction. There, he explained to her in a casual tone, "Sure, you ruined the lives of dozens, if not hundreds, of innocent people. But you're not the first to try something like this, and we've gotten through it. If we couldn't, we would have made ourselves extinct a long time ago."
Egon then turned around and headed back for the open portal behind him. The robots surrounding the present readied their weapons and pointed toward the woman, making her tense up. Just before he left her to her fate, he said from over his shoulder, in a cruel and merciless tone, "I hope your retribution was worth it. Because here is what it's gotten you."
The last thing she saw was the professor's back being swallowed by the dark portal, which closed on its own, and the cold eyes of the robots around her, each with a gun ready to fire. There was a flash of many lights, a litany of sounds, and finally, nothing.
