Upon the boss and his assistant returning to base, Oliver placed his tray down on the table in the center of the room and returned to staring at the monitors with his bodyguard. Mai could feel the irritation building up inside of her wondering why he just couldn't take a cup for himself and Lin.

'No he is just too high and mighty to do something so simple,' Mai thought.

Mai went and began distributing out the cups and once she got to Naru she slammed his down on the table but was careful to not spill any. At this time Ayako and Masako had returned and could feel the slight tension between their boss and the assistant. Mai handed them a cup seemingly innocent of any wrongdoing and sat herself down on the sofa next to Monk and John.

"Yasu have you found anything out yet," Naru asked taking a couple sips of his tea.

"Actually I have a few things, shall I explain Big Boss," Yasu grinned towards Naru.

Naru only glared at him thinking that his request was self explanatory. Yasu only continued to grin as he gathered all of the research he had collected so far.

"Alright then here we go. 70 years ago the Yuki family first occupied the home with two kids a 7 year old boy and their daughter Rei who was 12. She had hazel eyes, short brown hair, and a fair skin tone," Yasu paused the explanation.

Mai looked between the two and expected Naru to comment on the importance of the physical description, but Naru seemed to be focusing on every detail. Yasu continued on with his research taking the lack of commentary as a sign that he could continue.

"She was a middle school student in her second year and seemed to be a victim of bullying. it was reported to have worsened each day until about two moths later after the first incident that Rei ended up committing suicide. She hung herself in the forest behind the house and wasn't found until 4 days after doing so.

" There were three girl who were involved in the bullying. The first girl Keiko Hina who was 11, with short black hair, fair skin tone, and blue eyes. she was involved in a car accident that killed instantly. The family's car was the only one involved and the cause of the accident was unknown. This girl was the only one to have died in the accident everyone else suffered mild injuries. The second girl Min Akai, was 12 with mid-back length brown hair with white ribbons attached to the side of her head, chocolate brown eyes, and a light skin tone.

"She suddenly went missing from her home in the middle of the night and her body was found 4 days later. She was found dead in the forest the same way Rei had been found. Investigators found a note in her dress pocket saying 'This is what you get'. The investigation of her death went on for a year until they deemed it a cold case. There was no significant evidence to help the investigators no DNA or anything.

"The last girl Kyo Nishina was 11 with shoulder length blonde hair, a flower clip on the left side, green eyes, and tan skin. She also ended up in a single car accident. Her arm was broken and she had a few scrapes and bruises.

"The Yuki family ended up moving out after occupying the home for 10 years. The next family to move in was the Fujioka family with their 11 year old twins, a boy and a girl, and their newborn baby girl. The twin girl was named Senae, she had shoulder length brown hair, green eyes, and a fair skin tone.

"She went downstairs one day in the middle of the night. All of a sudden she was push violently down the stairs and ended up breaking her leg. Her twin brother found her when she screamed and he went to wake up their parents. When her leg had finally healed she was almost drowned in her bathtub. The mother happened to walk in and found her before it was too late. They left and the house ended up being abandoned for 20 years.

"Next to move in was the Otonashi family with their 6 year old girl, 7 year old boy, and a 12 year old girl named Yuri. She had black short hair with a flower hair clip, blue eyes, and a fair skin tone. She and a guy friend were in the forest climbing trees one afternoon about a month after the family had moved in. The branch that she had climbed on was described to be thick and sturdy. It suddenly broke and she fell down breaking her arm, the male friend was unharmed, he was on a tree branch right above her.

"A month after this incident she began to act strange and she started to disappear in the middle of the night and sometimes even during school. She also became aggressive and anti-social with her friends and peers. They moved away 2 months later and the house was abandoned again until the current owners came into possession of it".

Mai was processing the information that Yasu had given and a few questions were beginning to form in her head.

'If the ghost is potentially dangerous what will we do? Did I talk to Rei earlier in the forest? Also who did I talk to back in the kitchen," these were her more important questions.

Naru on the other hand was going over all the details with a fine toothed comb. This was what he did best, analyze every single detail and then piece it all together for a final conclusion.

"Naru what do you want us to do now," Mai asked breaking the unbearable silence.

"Ms. Hara I want you and Ms. Matsuzaki to walk the house again, and walk out into the forest where Monk placed the camera see if you can pick up the spirits of any of the girls Yasu mentioned. Monk and John there are a few other places where I want you to put microphones I'll let you know where in a minute. Yasu see if you can figure out anything more about the girl who committed suicide, the girls who bullied her, and the previous female residents," everyone nodded their heads at the boss after having received their orders.

"What about me Naru," Mai asked pointing to herself.

"Try not to fall asleep Mai," her boss replied in a very monotoned voice.

Naru then walked over to John and Monk to direct them on where they would be placing the microphones. Mai groaned to herself as everyone left base to complete their respective jobs. Mai hated when she was forced to sit around and do nothing. She knew there was a greater chance of disobeying Naru and falling asleep, even though she knew it was not by choice.

Mai was back in her astral plane however, there was no sign of Gene anywhere this time. She figured maybe she didn't need his help this time in order to get through the dream she was having. Mai looked down at herself and noticed she was wearing a school uniform. Mai figured she must be reliving the memory of one of the spirits who had passed away. Suddenly the scenery in front of her changed and she was in the hallways of what looked to be a middle school.

Mai's body walked her towards, what she assumed was, her classroom and greeted everyone who had already arrived. She took notice of a group of three girl in the middle of the back of the room and walked over towards them.

"Good morning Keiko, Mina, Kyo," she greeted them.

"Good morning, hey we were just talking about having a sleep of at Keiko's house today after school," the girl Mina told Mai.

"Yeah that would be great I can stop at my house after school to get my things and meet you guys there," Mai said sounding excited.

Mai felt that these girls had been her friends since the beginning of the year and this was the first sleepover she had ever been invited to. The scene changed againa nd now she was transported to a bedroom that she assumed was Keiko's.

"Okay now you Rei, truth or dare," Kyou said turning towards Mai.

It was here that Mai realized that she was living through the memories of the girl Rei who was bullied.

"Umm I'll pick truth," Mai said trying to avoid having to do a dare.

All three girls looked at each other and then back towards Mai.

"Okay so who is the guy at school that you have the biggest crush on right now and what would you say if you were to confess your feelings to him," Mina asked.

Mai spoke the name of her crush and while she was "confessing" to him she was completely unaware that the entire thing was being recorded. The recording ended up being sent around to the entire school and soon everyone knew who she had a crush on. From then on everyone was whispering about her and giving her weird looks as she passed them in the hallway. Eventually Mai ended up getting the video sent to her and she felt completely humiliated. She went to find the three girls to ask them why they would do such a thing. She found the three in the hall outside their classroom laughing.

"Why, why would you guys do this that was something private," Mai yelled tears coming from her eyes.

"Why not I thought it was funny," Keiko answered.

"But I thought I was your friend, that's not what friends do to each other," Mai said confused.

"Please you, friends with us, you were only a toy to us something we played with until we got bored. Now we are bored and have no use for you," Keiko replied and all three girls turned and walked away leaving Mai there to cry in the hallway.

Naru was still watching the monitors guiding John and Monk on the optimal placement for the microphones. He suddenly realized he hadn't heard any sounds or movement coming from Mai.

"Mai go make me some tea," he said not turning his attention away from the monitors.

Instead of the usual complaining all Naru heard was silence.

"Mai tea," Naru said once more.

When she didn't answer again Naru became irritated and turned around to see what Mai was so focused on that she was ignoring him. He walked over towards the couch and saw that she had fallen asleep.

'Leave it to Mai to fall asleep on the job. She better be having one of her dreams and not slacking off,' Naru thought.

Just as he was about to walk away from her, he noticed that tears were forming in the corners of her eyes and she was whimpering. She leaned over and grabbed her by the shoulders in order to try and wake the girl up.

"Mai you need to wake up now," Naru told her calmly.

Suddenly her eyes flew open and she sat up quickly causing the two to bump heads.

"Oww geez that really hurt," Mai said rubbing her forehead.

"Well next time don't try and sit up so fast you dummy," her boss stated.

"Oh Naru I'm sorry are you okay did it hurt," she said once she realized who she bumped heads with.

"It's fine, but what about you did you have a dream," Naru asked.

"I guess I did it's been some long since the last time I had one like this. But Rei the girl who was bullied, I think she is the one behind everything. I felt everything that she went through in that dream. I could feel the hurt and betrayal of what those girls did to her. They were never her friends to begin with they just used her," Mai explained and began crying more than she was before.

Naru grabbed a tissue from the side table on his right and handed it to the girl, who used it to wipe the tears away.

"I see, well Mai it seems that you may have been of some use after all. For now go and make me some more tea," Naru said and turned and walked back towards the monitors.

Mai sat there for a moment shocked at how Naru could be so kind one second and then the next just completely disregard the pain she had just experienced.

'Why can't he just not be so serious for once in his life. What harm would it cause if he actually gave just a small little care for others' feelings,' she thought.

"Yes of course you royal, tea loving, jerk," she yelled, got up, and stomped out of base towards the kitchen.

'If Mai is already having dreams this early on then we are going to have our work cut out for us,' Naru thought.

"Lin I want you to have everyone come back to base right away," Naru commanded.

Lin began calling everyone back one by one, except for Yasu who was sitting quietly focused on his research. once everyone returned they began discussing their plans for how they would proceed with the investigation moving forward.

Night had fallen and it was time for the investigation to get full underway.

"Before we begin there are a few things I want to mention. Based on the information Yasu was able to uncover, Mai and Ms. Hara under no circumstances are you two to be alone for the duration of this case. You two will most likely become victims of the spirit or spirits here based on your age and appearance. Ms Har you will be accompanied by Ms. Matsuzaki or Takigawa and Mai you will be accompanied by either John or myself, have I made myself clear," Naru told everyone.

They all nodded their heads in agreement knowing there was no room to object.

"Naru if I may I would like to start of in the backyard. I felt some spirits in that area earlier, expecially moving towards the forest," Masako commented.

"You may both Ms. Matsuzaki and Monk shall accompany you, but under no circumstances are you to go beyond the fence. We will don't know the full capabilities of the spirits involved and I would rather not take the risk to find out," Naru said.

The group of three walked out of the room and everyone that was left looked at the monitors to see if they could pick up on any changes. They saw the group appear on the camera that was placed in the backyard. Masako could been seen focusing on trying to sense a spirit and possibly even make contact with it.

"You will pay, you will all pay," Mai heard a voice from directly behind.

"Mai are you alright," John asked noticing her behavior.

"Yeah I think I'm just hearing things that's all," she replied and turned her attention back to the monitors.

"Mai, tea," Naru commanded.

"Yeah, yeah whatever, John do you mind tagging along," Mai asked making her way to the door leading out of base.

"Sure," he said and followed right behind the girl.

Mai once again made the preparations upon entering the kitchen and waited for the water to boil. all of a sudden she felt a chill run down her spine and let out a shudder.

"Hey John is it me or did it suddenly get colder in here," Mai asked as she hugged herself for warmth.

"Now that you mention it, it does seem colder," he answered and looked around trying to find the source of the temperature decrease.

"I'm almost done and then we can get out of here," she stated and got the cups ready.

"You will pay, you will all pay," Mai heard the voice again.

Mai looked over towards John who looked back at her signaling that he too heard the voice.

"What do you mean who will pay," the girl asked.

"Everyone here will pay. Everyone who thinks they are above others, those who seek to torture others for their pure enjoyment. I will not allow them to play their sick games any longer," the voice spoke angrily and Mai could hear the hatred.

"Rei if that's you please listen, everything is okay now you can be at ease. No one can hurt you ever again," the girl spoke.

"No I must get revenge and punish all those horrible people," the voice said even louder.

All of a sudden the room started shaking and knocking sounds could be heard throughout the entire kitchen. John then reach into his pocket and grabbed a small vial filled with holy water. She splashed some right in front of them and began his prayer. Meanwhile Mai still tried to reason with the voice who she still believed was Rei.

"You can't go around getting revenge on people it's wrong," Mai yelled.

As she spoke the sound of shattering glass was heard and Mai turned to see the cups she had gotten were now broken. Mai couldn't tell if this had been her doing or if this was the work of the spirit.

"You of all people should understand how I feel. You have suffered just like I did," the voice said.

Mai couldn't understand what the voice had meant by saying she to had suffered in a similar way.

"I'm not sure what you mean but I would never go around trying to get revenge on people who wronged me. You don't do that, you find it in your heart to forgive them somehow and move on," she explained.

"If you do not agree then you will be punished just like they are," next thing Mai knew she felt pain on the back of her leg.

Mai immediately fell to the floor on her knees and brought her hands to where she felt the pain.

"Mai are you alright," John asked kneeling down next to her.

"It's my leg," Mai said grunting and when she lifted her hands she saw blood and a huge gash going down the back of her calf.

At this moment Monk ran into the room and chanted his mantra causing all activity to cease.

"Mai you're bleeding here let me see," Monk said running towards the girl.

"Let's get you back to base and have Ayako take a look at it," Monk said and picked her up bridal style.

When they arrived back to base everyone's eyes grew wide once they noticed all the blood.

"Mai next time you try to communicate with a spirit could you please try not to get hurt," Ayako said as she went to grab her first aid kit.

Monk placed Mai on the couch lying on her stomach so ayako could tend to the wound.

"It's not like I was trying to get hurt, but that voice, it definitely was Rei it was the same voice I heard in the forest earlier," Mai said as Ayako cleaned off the blood.

"What do you mean it was the same voice from the forest," Naru asked.

'Oh man I completely forgot to mention to him that i had heard that voice in the forest earlier. Oh man he is so mad at me,' Mai thought nervously.

"It was when I woke up from my nap earlier. I was looking at the front of the house and felt like someone was pulling me towards the backyard. Once I got there the feeling got even stronger and was pulling me towards the forest. As I walked over there I got the feeling of betrayal. When I got to the middle of the forest the wind started picking up and I heard a voice that seemed to be coming out of thin air. That's when it spoke to me and not long after that Monk found me when he was setting up the camera," Mai explained.

"It seems that the spirits have a strong attachment to you Mai," Naru spoke after listening to the girl's story.

"But why me," she groaned.

"Whatever the reason is we definitely cannot allow you to be alone at all. These spirits are drawn to you for some reason and who knows what they can do to you next," Naru said.

"This wound isn't too deep to where you need to go to the hospital but I am going to have to stitch this up," Ayako explained once she cleaned off all the blood.

"Great and the injury streak lives on, no wonder Naru thinks I'm such a danger magnet," Mai sighed.

As Ayako gathered her supplies Mai began wonder why the spirits were so draw to her. if anything she would have thought they would have been more drawn to Masako since she is a medium. She then thought about the broken cups which had broke right after she had yelled at the spirit of Rei. She knew her abilities had gotten stronger over the years but she questioned if that was something she could really do.

Her eyes began to feel heavy 'I must be tired from the incident just now. I'm sure they won't be too angry with me if i fell asleep for just a little while'.
