Author's Note
Hey all! Sorry for the crazy long wait between the last chapter and this one...also sorry that this chapter isn't all that long. I've been experiencing crazy writers block and have just felt less motivated in general to make RWBY content. Don't get me wrong I still love RWBY and WhiteRose but with the fandom not being as active lately and the show more or less done and over it's been hard to be as motivated.
I promised I would finish this story and I will, besides I'd like to see it finished myself I owe you all and this story that much. I don't know how much RWBY content I will make after that but if this ends up being the last RWBY fic I write I want it to go out on a positive note and not just left unfinished and forgotten.
I'm not sure when the next chapter will be done but I promise it won't be even remotely close to as long as the last wait haha. For transparency there will only be a couple more chapters after this at most and an epilogue but I will try to make it a worthwhile ending for this story that I have poured a lot of heart into and hopefully it'll be an ending that you guys will be satisfied with as well.
Regardless thanks for reading as usual and I hope you enjoy the rest of the story!

"Ruby, would you hurry up, Loran will be here any minute!" I shout while I finish putting on my earrings.
"I'm getting ready as fast as I can, it's not my fault I had to work late!" she shouts back from the bathroom.
"Fair enough I guess." I say to myself more than anything. Though I doubt that, even if she had gotten home when she wanted, she would be ready on time.
She has always been like that ever since we were in school. She's a dolt but she's my dolt. "Just try to be downstairs soon Hun!" I shout as I get up and head downstairs. I walk into the living room and see Summer watching TV.
"You excited to hang out with Loran tonight sweetie?" I ask amazed how much she is beginning to look like a miniature Ruby. Seriously, other than her hair being styled more like Ruby's Mom's and her eye color being closer to mine it's almost spot on.
"Yeah it's gonna be a lot of fun!" she says looking genuinely excited. "I do wish big brother could have been here though."
"Well sweetie, you're big brother is getting older now and sometimes that means he just needs some time to himself." I sit down next to her and stroke her hair.
"Well, I'll forgive him so long as it means Kirinu will be my sister someday!" she shouts and I just smile, almost rolling my eyes at how innocent she is.
"It's...probably going to be awhile before we start talking about that sweetie but I like the attitude."
She doesn't really give much thought to what I said, instead she just leans her head against me. I put my arm around her and hold her close to me. It's hard to believe how big she's gotten. It seems like just yesterday she was a defenseless little baby, same goes for Nicholas too now that I think about it. I guess that is just part of getting older but sometimes I wish time would slow down, at least a little.
As my thoughts wander, I can't help but wonder if I've done what I set out to do...I swore before Nick was even born that I would be the best Mom I could be and I made the same promise with Summer.
I promised they would never have to go through what I did. That they would always know that they were loved and cherished. Have I done that? It's hard to say...all I can do is have faith I suppose. I smile and kiss the top of her head but when I do I notice something.
"Sweetie...you feel a little warm, are you feeling okay?"
"Y-Yeah I'm fine." She says but now that I look a little more closely...she does look a bit clammy. Before I can ask her again, the doorbell rings.
"Oh I bet that's Loran." Summer attempts to get up to go and answer the door but she barely makes it two feet before she falls over on the floor.
"Summer!" I rush over to her, picking her up in my arms.
"O-Oops, guess I'm just to clumsy Momma."
"Summer that's enough, it's obvious you're sick, why didn't you tell anyone?"
"W-Well..you and Big Brother and Mommy were all doing stuff, I didn't want to mess anything up." She says and my heart just rips in two.
"Oh sweetie...that's very sweet, but you shouldn't ever hide something like this from us."
"Weiss I'm ready and Loran is-" Ruby and Loran walk into the room and Ruby doesn't finish her sentence before realizing something was wrong, rushing over to Summer and I. "Summer, are you okay?"
"She's pretty sick." I say as Summer rests her head on my shoulder. Poor thing.
"Oh no, poor baby..." Loran says.
"Does she need to go to the hospital?" Ruby doesn't handle these situations well, she reacted the same way when Nicholas caught the flu pretty bad that one year. I completely understand though, the only reason I am able to remain calm is because I have to.
"She is getting pretty hot." I place my hand to her forehead and it's obvious that she definitely has a fever.
She's always been a frail little girl. She doesn't have the strongest body, even by kid standards. Still it's best not to overreact, she's been sick before and she always gets over it. Besides if we panic it'll only worry her. "For now we should just take her to bed."
"Okay, if you say so Weiss." Ruby always trusts my judgement on these things. "Sorry Loran, looks like you came over for nothing."
"Oh don't even worry about it." Loran walks over to Summer and gently pats her head. "Get better okay cutie?"
"Okay Loran." Summer offers a weak smile. Most kids wouldn't be able to force a smile in this situation, she may be physically frail, but our little girl really is tough.
We pay Loran anyway for the trouble, even though she insisted it wasn't necessary and then took Summer up to her room. I laid her down, tucking her in while Ruby places a wet cloth on her forehead.
"Ruby sweetie, could you go get the cold medicine from the bathroom?" I ask, she just nods and runs to grab it without question.
"I don't like that medicine Momma." Summer says in a voice that is just heart breaking.
"I know honey, but it'll make you feel better." I smile reassuringly at her but it doesn't seem to help much.
"Here Weiss." Ruby returns, handing me the medicine which I carefully pour into the little measuring cup. I hold it to her lips, but she hesitates.
"Please take the medicine honey, me and mommy are just trying to make you feel better." I plead with her. Maybe she can hear the desperation in my voice because after only hesitating for a second longer she quickly swallowed the medicine.
"Blegh." She exclaims, sticking her tongue out.
"I know, it stinks right?" Ruby kneels beside me. "I never liked medicine either but trust me kiddo, it really works."
"Okay Mommy." Summer is clearly still displeased but Ruby's unique way of identifying with the kids seems to have helped her mood a bit.
"Mommy and I will stay right here with you until you fall asleep." I say.
"Momma...do you think you could sing for me?" She asks, catching me off guard a bit. It's been a little while since I last sung her to sleep but if it'll help..
"Sure honey." I clear my throat and I start singing her what used to be her favorite lullaby. As I do she immediately starts smiling and despite still being somewhat weak, it seems genuine.
As I continue to sing for her, she slowly but surely drifts off to sleep. Eventually she is out cold.
We stay with her for a while longer before Ruby and I sneak out of the room, closing the door very quietly behind us. We both breathe a sigh of relief.
"I don't know what I'd do without you." Ruby says, leaning against me slightly.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"You are just so calm and collected in these situations." She said. "I'd probably still be panicking and rushing to the ER."
"That just means you care about them sweetie." I wrap my arms around her neck. "Besides we are a team, we fill in for each other when either of us falls short. You did a great job cheering Summer up."
"Yeah I guess." She smiles and puts her arms around my waist. "Let's not forget your beautiful singing putting her to sleep."
"Beautiful huh?" I giggle. "You are such a flatterer Ruby Rose."
We share a quick kiss before we are interrupted by the front door opening rather loudly. We rush downstairs and end up running into Nicholas at the bottom of the stairs.
"I rushed home as soon as I heard, is Summer okay?" He looked very worried, if I had to guess, Loran texted him.
"I'm sure she is fine Nick." Kirinu is holding onto his arm. "She is right?"
"Yes you can both calm down, take a breath." I say with a smile. It is very sweet to see how worried he is about his little sister.
"I swear you remind me so much of your Aunt Yang." Ruby says, ruffling his hair as he breathes a sigh.
"Is she asleep?" He asks.
"Yes, if you want to check on her go ahead but be very quiet." I say, knowing he probably really wants to see for himself. It's not that he doesn't trust us, he is just very protective.
He and Kirinu walks quietly upstairs, and we follow closely behind. Nicholas carefully opens her door and sneaks over to her bed to see her sleeping relatively peacefully.
Instantly a look of relief spreads across his face but he is caught of guard by a small voice suddenly speaking up.
"B-Big Brother..?" Summer says in a groggy voice.
"H-Hey Sum." He kneels next to her. "Sorry I didn't mean to wake you."
"It's okay...did you come to see if I was okay?" She asks, quickly putting it together.
"Of course I did." He smiles at her. "You're my little sister, I have to look out for you."
That instantly brings the brightest smile I've seen on her face tonight. "Thanks Big Brother...I love you."
"I love you too Sum." He gently pats her head. "Now get some sleep okay, Big Brother isn't going anywhere."
She nods and closes her eyes and I can't help but smile at the sight of them. I think back to my earlier question, about whether I had done what I set out to do and I still don't really know the answer but...if my children are able to show each other this kind of love and support they must have learned it somewhere right?
I don't know if that means I'm a good mom or not but...Ruby and I must be doing something right to have raised such wonderful and loving kids.
I feel Ruby grab hold of my hand and give it a gentle squeeze. I turn to her and see that classic warm Ruby smile that I love so much. I can't say for sure but I feel like she is thinking the same thing as me. I lean into her and she puts her arm over my shoulders.
One thing is for sure I wouldn't trade this life or this family for anything else in the world.
