Chapter 830: Beaulieu Manor
Tuesday, April 4th, Morning
The West Range was a commercial block in the Beaulieu Manor complex. It housed most of Davis Enterprise, along with various offices and workshops. The offices of the executives and design staff are located on the top floor.
Bobbi-Lee sat in her office reviewing her meeting notes. In the classic trope of this, it could have been an email Bobbi-Lee had an early meeting with several of the people from the workshops. Now, she was waiting for her next meeting with Brooke Davis, her boss.
Putting down her meeting notes, she looked across her office. Bobbi-Lee would rather be in her home office, but they agreed to have her come into the office at least once a week. But there was comfort in working from home, and it was peaceful.
A knock on the door broke Bobbi-Lee from reading her notes. Standing in the door was Brooke Davis. The boss, owner, and creative director smiled at Bobbi-Lee. Bobbi-Lee smiled back and nodded. It was a well-known fact that Bobbi-Lee was Brooke's protege. Bobbi-Lee also noted two cups of coffee.
"Can I come in?" Brooke asked.
"Yeah," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brooke entered the office and put down one of the coffee cups. Bobbi-Lee locked eyes with Brooke as Brooke pushed the coffee across the desk.
"So, how is Ms. Wolfle's dress coming along?" Brooke asked.
Bobbi-Lee nodded. "I will work with Keni tonight, and Ms. Wolfie will fly in next week to start fitting it to her," She said.
"Good, since I'm involved with the Met Gala. I won't be there with Ms. Wolfle," Brooke said.
"Okay, so no problem, I'm sure there's someone in New York that will help you," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Your design, I think you need to come out to New York," Brooke said.
"Are you serious?" Bobbi-Lee said.
Brooke nodded, "Yes, think about it this way: you get to be there and get your name out there more," she said.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "I guess. Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yes, and you deserve it, Bobbi," Brooke said.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "It's going to be a challenge," she said.
"I know, and you'll get the same treatment as me," Brooke said.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "Alright, the Met Gala? Really?" she asked.
"Yes, you're about to hit the big time," Brooke said.
Bobbi-Lee chuckled and sipped her coffee. The warm liquid filled her body with a comforting warmth. A small voice in her head whispered that she couldn't wait to tell Damian. Bobbi-Lee pushed the thought back and smiled. Putting the cup down, she looked at Brooke.
"Are you sure?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"I wouldn't be telling you if I wasn't sure," Brooke said.
"Thanks," Bobbi-Lee said.
"You're welcome," Brooke said. There was an interesting thought. What was it?"
On the corner of her desk, Bobbi-Lee's smartphone vibrated. She reached over to silence it and saw the name J.L. Burke on the screen. She picked it up.
"It's J.L.," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What does my son-in-law want?" Brooke asked.
"He was my brother first," Bobbi-Lee said, "Can I find out?"
"Go ahead," Brooke said.
Bobbi-Lee answered her phone. "J.L., what's up?" she asked.
"Can you talk?" Huck asked.
"Yes," Bobbi-Lee said.
"I'm at Kelly's, and well, I don't know how to say this," Huck said.
"Just say it, J.L.," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Last night, Andrew was rushed to the hospital," Huck said.
"Oh my god! Is he alright? Why didn't anyone call?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"He died early this morning," Huck said.
"What?! Kelly must be devastated; how are the kids?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"I am with Kelly right now. The kids are at school, except Rian, and Kelly is well here," Huck said.
"Stay with her; I'll be there soon," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Okay," Huck said and disconnected the call.
Bobbi-Lee put the phone down, her hand shaking. She looked at Brooke and picked up her coffee cup. With a shaky hand, Bobbi-Lee sipped her coffee.
"What's wrong?" Brooke asked.
"Andrew McMichael is dead," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What happened?" Brooke asked.
"I don't know, J.L. just said he died at the hospital this morning," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What about Kelly and the kids?" Brooke asked.
"She's home, most of the kids are in school, and J.L. is with her," Bobbi-Lee said.
"You need to be with your sister," Brooke said.
"Are you sure?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"Family first, Bobbi," Brooke said.
"Thanks," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Go," Brooke said, "Be with your family."
Bobbi-Lee nodded and watched Brooke leave her office. Then, she shut down her computer and packed up. She threw her bag over her shoulder and headed out of the West Range of Beaulieu Manor for her car. Once behind the wheel, she was heading to her family home, Murphy House, and her now-widowed sister.
