A/N: I am so sick of these artists wanting to do commissions of stories that I write for free and fun. Please stop. I'm not interested.
For everyone else, enjoy.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
David moved down the boardwalk, not paying attention to anyone. He angrily puffed on a cigarette as he neared the meet up spot. Each step made his undead heart harden. He could smell something that he knew he shouldn't be.
Her blood.
The Boys were tense as he approached. No laughter fell from their lips. They weren't joking around. They couldn't. Not tonight.
Dwayne cast a look at David. "She won't give up any names…or faces."
David rolled his eyes. Of course not.
His eyes fell on the girl in question. Calli stood calmly between the group of Lost Boys, gingerly dabbing a dampened ball of paper towels against her bottom lip. A very blood bottom lip. A cut bled slowly above her left eye and her knuckles on both hands were scraped.
"Calli."
Calli looked bored. "Y'all are some real tattle tales, y'know?"
Paul and Marko thumbed their noses at her. Dwayne briefly put his hand on David's arm, squeezing firmly to get his attention.
"Don't go too hard on her," he whispered before leading the other two away.
Calli watched them leave and then her eyes turned to David. The smell of her blood drove him insane. He was pissed that it had been spilled and hungry for it to be on his tongue. The Boys could feel his hunger through their bond and it mixed with their own;
"Bodies are falling down tonight," Calli guessed, dabbing the cut on her lip again. "Figures."
"Who put their hands on you?" David demanded, flicking his cigarette aside.
"They were handled."
"That wasn't what I asked. Who put their hands on you?"
Calli shrugged. "Must have slipped my mind," She frowned at him, not fully meeting his gaze. "I am so very bad at remembering things, you know."
"Calli."
"Asshole."
David moved closer to her. Calli stared at his chest rather than meet his gaze. But tonight, the vampire was having none of it.
He reached down and grabbed her by the chin. Ice blue burned into a mixture of colors that could rarely be held. The vampire tried to get into her thoughts, to that memory that she didn't want him or the Boys to find. None of the Boys really wanted to abuse this power with her, but sometimes it was needed.
With a sharp rush, David was brought back to reality. Calli drew her breath in as a painful hiss as she stepped back, cradling her hand which had been in his stomach. David narrowed his eyes, trying to suppress the demon within when he realized that she had punched him.
"Calli!"
"You promised, David!" Calli snapped, taking another step back "You fucking promised, you bastard!"
David reached for her and she swatted his hand away. The Lost Boy grabbed her by the back of her jacket and jerked her towards him. Calli squirmed and kicked when he held her against his body. People on the boardwalk glanced their way, but no one intervened.
Smart humans.
"Let me down!" Calli ordered as he carried her to a secluded spot, away from onlookers and cameras. "Let me down, asshole!"
David dropped her unceremoniously onto the sand. Calli hadn't expected that apparently and landed on her knees.
"Ow!" She swatted at his legs. "Jerk!"
David looked down at her in the relative darkness. "Who hurt you?"
"We don't have enough time to name all of those names, David honey," Calli said sweetly, pushing herself to her feet only for David to knock her to her knees again. "Ow!"
"Tonight. Who hurt you? And why are you protecting them?"
Annoyance flickered across her face. "I'm not protecting anyone."
"Then who the hell hurt you?"
"I don't have to tell you." Calli said, trying to rise only to be pushed down again. "Okay. That's getting really old, really fast, David."
"Then you'd better tell me who decided to be dumb enough to put their hands on you. Because princess, I have all night. And I can make your knees hurt worse than your lip does."
Calli glared up at him and ran her tongue over her bottom lip. "Why do you have to fight all of my battles for me? Why can't you hold off on killing everyone who so much as looks at me wrong and let me handle things?"
David blinked. "What?"
"You and the Boys never let me fight for myself. You never let me get my hands dirty whenever someone does me wrong. You just kill and eat them."
"Princess, we do it because you're not…"
Calli held a finger up. "I swear on all that is holy that if you say it's because I'm not strong enough, I will bite you! I can hold my own, David. Especially against humans. I am not completely helpless to the point that you have to protect me 24/7."
David moved back to let her have room to get onto her feet. "You shouldn't have to fight though, Calli."
"Doesn't mean that I won't," Calli said, sticking her chin out defiantly. "And that's what I did tonight."
"With who?"
Calli shrugged. "Someone who made the wrong decision to cat call and touch me. They ended up with a lot worse than me, I swear."
David's temper flared. "They did what?"
Calli sighed and she smoothed her hands over his chest. "Relax, David." She smiled slightly at him. "I bit his hand. The only people that get to cop a feel are you and the Boys."
A small smirk curled the corner of his lips upwards. "What did I tell you about biting people, princess?"
"To aim for the jugular?"
David chuckled and slid an arm around her waist. "Like you know where that is."
Calli growled. "Watch it! I'll bite you!"
David leaned in close. "Go ahead. Your bite doesn't scare me." He felt her tense. "But."
"But what?"
"I bite back."
Calli's heart rate jumped. "Where are you going to bite me?"
David's eyes gleamed with mischief. "Fuck around and find out, Calli?"
His girl searched his gaze for a moment. Her thoughts were chaotic, but never revealed the person that she had fought off. David wondered if that memory had been allowed to form roots in her mind or if her mind had booted it. There was no way that this fragile of a creature could block a vampire from reading their mind.
Then how does she recall little details? Is she just guessing? She is an author. She could fabricate a story in a pinch…
Calli tapped the tip of his nose, bringing him back to reality. "Fuck around and find out, huh?"
"That's what I said."
"Well, we're going to have to go somewhere less sandy then." Calli scuffed the toe of her boot through the loose sand beneath her feet. "Last time, I ended up washing sand out of really awkward places for days. And I already having sand in dumb places thanks to you pushing me down repeatedly."
David smirked and fired up a new cigarette. "So sue me."
Calli waved her fingers. "Sorry. No people named Sue are allowed to be in my shower."
That peaked his interest.
"Calli…"
The witch smiled and started walking away. "I said what I said. So if you become my David again, you can see what happens when teeth get involved in the shower. Bye Sue."
David chuckled and followed after her…
OOOOOOOOOOOO
