INT. TAILS' PLACE - DAY
The season changes to spring. The duo are in Tails' home. The boy sits on his couch reading. Sonic walks in from behind.
SONIC
Hey, what'cha reading?
TAILS
It's a book I got from Amy. It's
actually really cool.
SONIC
What's it about?
TAILS
Angel Island.
SONIC
I remember learning about it in
school. Don't know if I would say
it's cooler than Little Planet
though.
TAILS
No one is allowed there so the
natives can thrive.
SONIC
There's all sorts of crazy stuff on
there. But no one knows what.
TAILS
It's believed that the last of the
echidna's remain there.
SONIC
Echidna's? Like the time I met
Tikal. I wonder if that's where the
Master Emerald is.
TAILS
That would make sense considering
the mysterious energy that comes
from it.
SONIC
I just realized, that island is
sure to peak the interest of a
certain fat man.
They smirk at each other.
TAILS
We should check it out. Just to be
safe.
EXT. ISLAND JUNGLE - DAY
Sonic and Tails cross the ocean in the Tornado. They fly closer to Angel Island.
TAILS
That's it alright.
SONIC
Pretty hard to miss a floating
island.
The plane lands just inside the jungle.
SONIC (CONT'D)
I'm gonna go see up ahead.
TAILS
Alright, I can catch up.
Sonic runs off. He weaves through the trees and flips off rocks at top speed. He jumps lower down when Knuckles suddenly appears. He gives Sonic an uppercut sending him down. He looks up to the island native.
SONIC
Looks like the welcome wagon's
already here.
The echidna crosses his arms and chuckles.
KNUCKLES
You're quite a cocky intruder.
SONIC
Haven't heard that one before.
Knuckles starts the brawl and fights Sonic. Sonic makes quick dodges jumping over and around Knuckles.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Careful with those spikes. You poke
someone's eye out with those.
Sonic jumps over and kicks Knuckles into a tree.
KNUCKLES
You won't make a fool of me!
SONIC
Fair point, this is your place.
Knuckles runs up to Sonic and tries to punch him. Sonic stands there and catches his fist.
KNUCKLES
How? No one is stronger than me!
SONIC
Try this one on for size!
Sonic uppercuts him back. Knuckles falls over. When he gets up Sonic jumps on his shoulders.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Listen, you're a big guy. What's
your workout routine? I've been
trying but it's hard when you can
bench anything.
Knuckles throws him down and smashes the ground. Sonic jumps away before he gets hit.
KNUCKLES
You're just as annoying as he said.
Sonic flips up a tree. When he drops he kicks Knuckles down.
SONIC
Who said? Don't tell me it was an
evil mad scientist.
KNUCKLES
He warned me about you and your
flying friend.
Knuckles tries to punch him again. Sonic lands a couple hits in dazing Knuckles.
SONIC
So Ivo is here! I knew I was right!
KNUCKLES
Turn back before it's too late.
SONIC
Listen buddy, I know we just met
but I already know how this ends.
Just step aside so I can kick his
ass.
KNUCKLES
Never!
He gives several hits on Sonic sending him down. Sonic lifts his feet and launches Knuckles away. He gets up and runs off.
SONIC (V.O.)
I don't have time for this moron!
Maybe he can show me something.
Sonic jumps up and hides in the trees. Knuckles comes by confused.
KNUCKLES
Doc said Sonic was fast and strong.
Much better than I expected. I have
to see what he's up to now.
He leaves to an area with more exposed rock. Sonic follows behind him. Knuckles slips down into a cave entrance.
SONIC
There has to be something important
down there. This is going to be the
last time.
He drops down and Tails arrives.
TAILS
What did I miss?
SONIC
Robotnik is here. This time we're
ending him.
Sonic slips into the cave and Tails follows.
INT. WATER TEMPLE - CONTINUOUS
Sonic and Tails move down the cave. Gaps in the ceiling let sunlight through. Water drips down. Further down they encounter a temple like the one in the Marble Gardens.
SONIC
I saw a temple just like this on
Little Planet.
TAILS
I'm glad it looks untouched. It's
practically a time capsule.
They examine the inside of the temple. The humanoid echidna's depict themselves carved into the walls. They look at drawings of scholars, merchants and soldiers.
TAILS (CONT'D)
These are some cool hieroglyphics.
I wonder what happened here?
On the back wall is a mural of the Master Emerald in it's sacred shrine.
SONIC
That's the one. Tikal showed it to
me in person. She said she was part
of the Echidna Tribe. That guy I
fought must be one of the remaining
members.
TAILS
So they do live here. All the other
tribes evolved into modern society.
But I guess one still lives. You
even started trouble already and I
didn't even get to join.
SONIC
Hey, that guy appeared from no
where and punched me first.
TAILS
I wonder if he's tied to the
Emerald?
SONIC
That gem is somewhere on this
island. If Ivo's already here he's
for sure going after it.
TAILS
That means we have to stop him. He
could be unstoppable with that kind
of power.
SONIC
Maybe that guy wanted us to stay
away to protect us.
TAILS
Maybe. Now we have to find him. I
haven't even met him yet.
The duo leave the temple for further down the cave. Talking is heard echoing off the walls. They stop on the edge of a cliff. Various machinery is bellow. Badniks roll out on the new production line. Knuckles and the Doctor argue.
KNUCKLES
You can't just do this.
ROBOTNIK
It's not like you can stop me
Knuckles.
KNUCKLES
This isn't how my people would
treat the land.
ROBOTNIK
I am simply transforming the island
to my image. Everything on it is
now mine.
KNUCKLES
The first visitor in a thousand
years decides to destroy my
peaceful home. Foreigners like you
are scum.
ROBOTNIK
You will bow before your master.
KNUCKLES
Huh? Up there! It's them!
TAILS
How does he know we're here?!
The duo drop down. Ivo runs away, Tails chases after him. Sonic and Knuckles engage again.
SONIC
Man, you're super cool and you
still suck.
KNUCKLES
You are much stronger than
expected. You seem to have a
connection as well. You perplex me.
Knuckles lunges but Sonic dives under him.
SONIC
Listen knucklehead, I'm not in the
mood to kick your ass.
KNUCKLES
Leave or I will kill you.
SONIC
I'd like to see you try.
Sonic dodges one throw but Knuckles lands several others. Sonic jumps back and throws him into the machinery.
KNUCKLES
Not only are you fast, you're
powerful.
Sonic jumps around knocking badniks to the ground trashing the place.
SONIC
Last time I was in one of these I
didn't even get to do this.
Knuckles swings but hits and dents the metal. Sonic jumps above.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You'd so useful if you kept doing
that but on purpose.
KNUCKLES
How long can you keep this up?
He sweeps the guardian off his feet.
SONIC
Much longer than you think.
Sonic lands back on the rock but Knuckles tackles him. Sonic gets him off but Knuckles throws him over his head. Sonic slams into one of the machines.
SONIC (CONT'D)
I have to know where the Doctor
went. I've beaten him before and
I'll do it again.
KNUCKLES
Than you'll have to go through me!
He keeps trying to punch him but Sonic's speed evades. He goes for a fast string of hits and knocks Knuckles down.
SONIC
Why are you siding with him? He's
the enemy!
KNUCKLES
He took everything away from me. My
home, my family, my choice. I have
to be his slave or all is lost.
SONIC
You don't have to do this Knuckles.
He's afraid of all of us. As soon
as you stand it's all over.
KNUCKLES
If I rebel he'll kill me before I
touch him.
SONIC
I can sense it in you. You are much
more powerful than you realize.
KNUCKLES
I can't do this. Only you can
Sonic. My people made teleporters a
hundred years ago. One of them is
at the end of the cave. It'll take
you to his project.
SONIC
Thanks a million. One day, you will
change your mind. You won't have to
ruled by fear.
Sonic runs off and reaches the far end. He finds a small frame with a red ball in it. He steps on top and disappears.
INT./EXT. MARBLE GARDENS - LATER
Robotnik flies through the jungle in his mobile. Tails follows not far behind. He doesn't use his flight and stays low to hide in the bushes.
TAILS (V.O.)
It doesn't seem he knows. I have to
see where he's going.
He hides in a tree as the Doctor enters the Marble Gardens. All the Chao there previously are gone. Various crates and machines cover the stone. Ivo enters the same temple that Knuckles went to.
TAILS
He's taken the whole place over for
himself. Nothing has changed since
he attacked my city.
Tails flies to the roof of the temple. He drops in through a large crack in the weathered stone. The building has been made into a base. Tails hides and sneaks around.
TAILS (V.O.)
Seems like Eggman set up camp here.
He's not leaving anytime soon
that's for sure. I have to make
sure he doesn't see me.
ROBOTNIK
I knew that boy and his blonde
buddy we going to show their faces.
It's only a matter of time before
the plan falls apart. Good thing
that idiot is keeping him occupied.
I need to get back to the ship
fast. The repairs are finally
almost done. When that blue-spiked
freak returns he's done for real.
Sonic will fall right into my trap.
TAILS (V.O.)
If I can't warn Sonic than I'll do
it myself. He's not expecting me. I
can take him down if I want.
Robotnik destroyed by life after
all.
Tails drops on him and starts attacking. Tails lands on his shoulders.
TAILS
Now I get to have the drop on you!
ROBOTNIK
You little brat!
He throws Tails down.
ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Why must you ruin everything?!
He grabs a nearby blaster and shoots at Tails. The boy hides in the shadows and jumps back out. Tails lands a few hits and tackles the Doctor. The blaster gets knocked away.
TAILS
You hurt so many. You took my
family and destroyed my life!
ROBOTNIK
Oh, is that so? I'm glad to have
made such an impact.
Ivo stuns him and grabs him by the Tails. He slams him around on tables and equipment before throwing him away.
TAILS
By the tails. What a sick joke.
Before Ivo can get to his mobile Tails grabs him by the jacket and pulls him down.
TAILS (CONT'D)
You can't get away from me!
Tails picks up one of the wooden crates and prepares to throw it. Before he can Ivo punches right through it. Blasters and others weapons cover the floor. Tails jumps away and hovers just above. He gets the Doctor by the jacket again and swings him over his head. After he throws Robotnik down Tails takes another crate and smashes it over his head.
ROBOTNIK
You used the same moves again and
you got me fox boy.
Tails sends slow but powerful punches stunning his enemy.
TAILS
You took it all from me! Don't
think I'll ever let that go!
The Doctor finally gets knocked down. Ivo spits blood.
ROBOTNIK
You're good. Your anger fuels your
strength. Your age doesn't define
you. I like that.
Tails kicks him back down. He goes to pick up one of the blasters sprawled across the ground. Before he can Ivo throws Tails over his head across the temple. The Doctor gets back in his mobile. He hovers over one of the teleporters that Sonic used and vanishes. Tails gets up and follows.
TAILS
Fifty-fifty this kills me.
EXT. LAUNCH BASE - CONTINUOUS
Tails steps out onto a shallow sandy plain. Before him is the crashed airship that Sonic took down being repaired. Henchmen and badniks preform construction and patrol the area. Tails flies up to the Doctor.
TAILS
Where are you flying off to old
man?
ROBOTNIK
Oh, you know, enjoying the weather.
Tails drops in front and keeps punching him.
TAILS
Don't think you can run just
because I'm not Sonic!
Ivo loses control and crashes. Tails hops off.
TAILS (CONT'D)
Sonic crashed it the first time.
I'll blow it up the second.
ROBOTNIK
Try all you want young man.
The Doctor starts to fly away again but Tails hits him from bellow and knocks it away.
ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
I don't have time for your games.
TAILS
C'mon! The fun just started!
Tails jumps over Eggman. He grabs Ivo and throws him out. Tails flips over some of his attacks and slams him into the very far edge of the ship.
TAILS (CONT'D)
I knew you were slow but this is
just pathetic.
ROBOTNIK
This will all be over soon.
Tails flies up and kicks the Doctor in the face knocking him down.
TAILS
You can do better than that. Even
Bark put up more of a challenge.
ROBOTNIK
You've gotten better at making a
fool of me. I won't tolerate this
any longer Tails.
Other henchmen and badniks come toward the edge of the ship where they are. Everyone starts firing at Tails.
ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Now scram boy!
TAILS
Yikes! I can't do this on my own!
He scrambles to leave and retreats as fast as he can. Ivo gets back into his mobile.
ROBOTNIK
Let's get back to business. The
blue pinhead will be here soon.
The Doctor flies further down the ship.
