Hurley awoke in the lagoon and still had the guitar case. He struggled to move, especially with his cuffs on and trying to hold onto the guitar case. He forced himself upon to and called out for help while trying to move himself towards the side of the pool. He continued to call out for help until he reached, he felt the ground. He knew that he was moving to a place where he could stand and pushed a little further until he eventually could stand. He looked around and knew that he was back on the island. Kate grabbed his guitar and looked around. He saw Kate on some rocks and screamed "Kate". He ran over and pleaded "Please don't be dead, please don't be dead". Hurley patted her face and said "Come on Kate, wake up. Come on. Wake up".
Kate awoke and Kate said "Hurley".
Hurley responded "Thank God. Are you okay".
Kate asked "Where are we. What happened".
Hurley answered "Dude. I don't think you wanna know".
Kate sat up and asked "The plane. Did, did we crash".
Hurley answered "I don't know. All I remember is being tossed around and next thing I'm in the lagoon".
Kate asked "Lagoon". She then looked around and asked, "We aren't".
Hurely said "We are. We're back".
Kate responded "No. We can't be back. We left. We can't have come back to the island".
Hurley responded "Dude. We did".
Kate asked "Where's the plane. Where's Sun and Sayid. Where's Aaron. He was on the plane".
Hurley responded "Dude, I don't know but they have to be here somewhere. We'll just search for them". They both then hear an engine and see a Dharma van approaching them. Hurley exclaims "Dude". Jin gets out of the car and aims his gun at them. Hurley the calls out "Jin" and Jin lowers his gun in shock of seeing Hurley and Kate. Jin calls Sawyer and Sawyer tells Jin to bring them to North valley. Jin drives them to meet Sawyer and he's happy to see them.
Hurley exclaimed in delight that Sawyer was alive. Sawyer asked, "What's with the handcuffs".
Kate said, "Don't ask".
Jin said, "They won't say".
Sawyer said "Well, it's a wonder they managed to get cuffs on you, Kong". Hurley responded that he missed Sawyer's nicknames and Sawyer answered that he missed him as well. Sawyer said "Now, let's get those cuffs off you so I can give you both hugs". Sawyer went to the back of the jeep and got tools out. Sawyer then remarked "Good thing for you. I know how to get these off real quick".
Sawyer then broke Hurley's off and Hurley said, "Thanks Sawyer".
Sawyer hugged Hurely and Sawyer said, "You need to go easy on the ribs there". Hurley smiled and Sawyer said, "It's your turn Freckles".
Sawyer then broke Kate's off and they hugged. Sawyer said that it was good to see her, and she responded that she was happy to see her as well. Sawyer couldn't believe they were actually there, and that Locke actually got them to come back. He then asked where Locke was. Kate answered, "John's dead, James".
Sawyer asked "Dead, how".
Kate answered, "Don't know but he is". Hurley asked why they were in the Dharma jumpsuits. Sawyer asked if Jin didn't tell them and before telling them that they were in the Dharma initiative. Kate asked "Really. How".
Sawyer answered "Time travel. It's 1977". Hurley was confused by this.
Kate asked "So, you all have been here for three years as members of the Dharma initiative".
Sawyer answered, "That's right. How long's it been for you since the chopper".
Kate answered, "Three years". Miles called Jin and asked where he was. Jin told Sawyer that he had to check in or they'd search for them and asked what they do with Hurley and Kate. Hurley remarked that Jin's English was awesome. Sawyer said that they bring them in. Kate asked, "Where are we being brought into James".
Sawyer answered "Back to the Barracks at Dharmaville. Can't be wandering around the jungle with the Hostiles".
Kate asked about the Hostiles and Sawyer told her that they were the Others. Hurley asked about everybody else from the plane because they could be in the jungle. Jin asked what he meant by everyone else, and Kate answered "We didn't come back by ourselves. That's why we were in cuffs. Ben forced us onto the plane. So, he's there, our pilot was Frank, Sayid, Sun, Aaron, and Claire's mom".
Jin upon hearing Sun and knowing that she was back on the island raced to the jeep. Sawyer told him that they needed to talk about this, but Jin made his way to the Flame to speak to Radzinsky and find out if a plane landed. Sawyer asked, "Did you say the kid was back on the island, and Claire's mother".
Kate answered, "Yes".
Sawyer asked, "I get you guys but how did that happen".
Kate said, "Long story".
Sawyer thought about the people that came back and realised that Jack wasn't one of them. Sawyer asked, "You didn't say the doc. Did he not come".
Kate didn't answer and Hurley said, "Jack's dead".
Sawyer was devastated to hear this and said "Him to. How did he die".
Kate was to devastated thinking to answer and Hurley said "Suicide. He jumped off a bridge".
Kate began to cry, and Sawyer hugged her. He told her "It's all right Kate. It's all right. I miss him to. He was a good man and he we all wouldn't be here without him". Kate accepted this and wiped her eyes. Sawyer then remembered that he had to get them save and told them "Now, you two stay here. Hugo, you look after and I'll be right back. I gotta find a way to explain where the Hell you all came from". Kate then asked who was here with him and Jin and he told them Juliet and Miles are also here. Sawyer went back to the Barracks and Hurley and Kate waited for him.
Kate asked Hurley "Did you ever expect us to be back here".
Hurley answered, "No. But I knew something was up when I saw all of you being on the same plane as me and of course Ben being there".
Kate answered "So, did I. But how does that include Aaron. I just don't know".
Hurley asked, "How did they find out about Aaron".
Kate said "I'm assuming Ben. He seems to have his hand in all of this".
Hurley said "I knew we should never have lied. It has only caused us pain".
Kate responded "You know we had to Hurely. We had to protect everybody that we left behind".
Hurley asked, "Really or were we protecting ourselves".
Kate said, "We had to as I had to take Aaron".
Hurley turned to her and asked "Really. Who was that on the plane. The woman next to him. Was that his grandmother, because you said that Claire's".
Kate responded "All right. Claire had a mom and if I didn't take him then Ben wouldn't have been able to do this to us, all right, you happy".
Hurley said "Well, at least Aaron's with his grandmother and we can save everyone here".
Kate said, "If I didn't take Aaron than Jack wouldn't have killed himself".
Hurley turned and asked, "What do you mean".
Kate said "Before he died, he kept calling me, but I wouldn't answer because I was so upset about him blurting out that I wasn't related to Aaron in front of him. Jack tried to be there for me, lied for me, but I didn't trust him enough. I kept something from him and now he's gone. All because I wanted to do something for Sawyer". Hurley knew she wasn't going to say anymore and didn't ask.
Hurley said "My mom hates you. She saw the news and thinks you are the Devil".
Kate responded "Thanks".
Hurley said, "She's disappointed in me to if it makes you feel better".
Kate responded "No Hurely, it doesn't".
Hurely said "They're gonna be okay you know. All of the. Sun, Sayid, Aaron, Claire's mother. Sawyer's going to get them and we're all going to be fine".
Kate responded "I sure hope so. This island is dangerous and he's just a boy". Hurley agreed and didn't think saying anymore was good for either of them.
Sawyer returned and Hurley alerted Kate that Sawyer was back. Sawyer told them that they were going to be part of the second batch of recruits coming off the submarine and they don't have much time. Sawyer gave them their clothes and told them "Come on. We've only got ten minutes to make intake or you two are gonna be camping in the jungle for a long time. There ain't another batch of recruits due for six months".
Kate said, "Come on Hurley, let's follow Sawyer".
Hurley responded "Yeah, I don't vote for camping".
Sawyer said, "Come on then, let's move". Sawyer placed the guitar case inside, and they all got in and began to head to the Barracks. Hurley asked if Sawyer was going to warn the Dharma initiative about the purge and Sawyer said that he wasn't going to be Nostradamus to the Dharma initiative. Sawyer then said that Daniel has some pretty interesting theories on what they can and can't do here. They arrive and Sawyer tells them that Juliet's got their names on the list, so they need to do is watch the meet and greet video and wait for their name to be called up and when they are all they need to do is smile and take their work assignment and jumpsuit. Hurley asked about them being questions they didn't know the answers to, and Sawyer told him that it wasn't a gameshow and he's gonna be in there to have their backs. Sawyer told them to move and as they did Miles came back and told him that he's been looking everywhere for him. Miles then saw Hurley and Kate and wondered what they were doing there. Sawyer told him to stop staring and say what Miles problem was. Miles said that Jin had a 14J at the Flame and Sawyer called Jin to ask about this and found out the 14J was in fact Sayid. Sawyer wasn't happy to hear that Radzinsky had Sayid and asked if anybody else was with Sayid, but Jin told him that Sayid was alone. Kate was approached by Phil to help her because she wasn't called up yet. Kate told Phil her name, but he couldn't find her on his list or the submarine's manifest. Juliet came over and said that there was a mix up with a few last-minute additions and Kate was one of them. Juliet then took Kate and welcomed her to the island. After they had their picture taken, they saw that Sawyer was bringing Sayid in and were happy to see him, and Sayid noticed them, but Kate and Hurley saw that he was their captive.
That night Kate went to Sawyer's house and knocked Juliet answered. Kate said "Juliet. I was, uh, I was looking for James, but I think I have the wrong house".
Juliet told her "No. Come in".
Juliet led Kate inside and Sawyer said "Evening, Freckles. Can I get you a drink".
Kate said "No, huh, I was just wondering if you found anybody else besides Sayid".
Sawyer answered "No. But if they're out there. Jin will find them, especially with his wife being on your plane".
Kate responded "I know it's just that with Aaron here. I want him to be safe, especially since he's with a woman that's never been here before".
Sawyer responded "Well, I'm sure that Claire's mother will catch up soon on what our lives are like. It's hard not to when you literally time travel to the seventies".
Kate said "It's not that. It's just that after everything. I just want him to be safe".
Sawyer said "I get that Jack's death has been hard on you. It's hard on us all, but we got to keep our heads together. We're going to find them and they're gonna be safe and tomorrow I'm going to save Sayid".
Kate asked "How's that going by the way. I saw you bring him in".
Sawyer answered "Unfortunate necessity because he got caught by my people. But he's safe and tomorrow he's gonna be like you and Hugo. I know you're worried about them but don't be. I've got it under control and everything's gonna be fine. Trust me".
Kate responded, "I trust you".
Sawyer told her "Now, go home and get a good night's rest. Got a big day tomorrow of learning how to be an island mechanic, but don't worry, Juliet will show you everything".
Kate accepted and began to leave. She then opened the door but turned back and said "I'm happy you found each other. You both deserve it". Kate then left Sawyer and Juliet's house and headed back to her home. She didn't expect to see them together but was happy for them.
