Kate awoke in an outrigger on Hydra Island and Sayid said to her "Welcome to Hydra Island. At least you didn't have to paddle". Sawyer, Jin, Sun, Hurley, and Lapidus to the cells when Sawyer was told by one of Widmore's men to get in the cage. Sawyer refused and when Widmore's men said that he had a gun, Sawyer took it from him and said that he didn't anymore. Charles fired into the air and ordered Sawyer drop his gun. Charles then put his gun to Lapidus and said, "Put the gun down or I'll kill him". Sawyer said that Charles wasn't going to kill anybody because then he wouldn't be throwing them into the cages. Charles said "I have a list of names. Ford, you're on it, as are Reyes and the Kwon's. Frank Lapidus. He's not. It doesn't matter to me whether he lives or dies".
Lapidus responded "I should have never listened to you, you bastard".
Sawyer said, "Don't worry Frank. he ain't gonna shoot you".
Charles said "To get the rest of you to comply. I most certainly will. Are you really willing to take that chance. Do you really want to be responsible for his death".
Sawyer thought about Kate, Claire, Miles, Aaron, and Claire's mother who he has never met. How he was willing to abandon them all and let them die for him to leave the island only to be captured. Sawyer knew he couldn't do it again and relented. Sawyer gave the gun back and Widmore's man then whacked Sawyer before tossing him in the cage. Lapidus, Hurley, Jin, and Sun were then all put in the cage. Charles Widmore said as the door closed that this is for their own good, but Sawyer didn't believe it. Charles Widmore wanted to know how quickly the fence would be active and when he heard that it would be an hour, he wanted it to be done quicker because the monster was coming.
Kate asked, "What happened".
Sayid answered "There was a mortar attack. Widmore's people fired on us. Locke saved you".
Kate asked "What happened to the everyone else. Everyone that was on the beach when it hit. What happened to them".
Sayid answered "The ones that weren't killed scattered into the jungle. It's just the three of us now".
Kate asked, "Why did he bring me here".
The monster answered, "Because your friends got themselves captured. And now, we're gonna have to rescue them".
Kate asked, "Rescue them from what".
The monster said "Widmore has them in a cage. About half a mile inland".
Kate asked, "Why would he".
The monster answered, "You know I'd ask him, except I don't think he's gonna give me a straight answer. But I can't imagine that his intentions are good. If we move right now, we can break your people out, run for the plane, and be off this island before Widmore knows what hit him".
Kate said "I'm not getting on that plane. There's nothing left for me out there. I'm staying here".
The monster responded "Well Kate, I'm hoping that you'll change your mind about that because there's nothing for you here. But your friends do want to leave. And since they just ran away from me on my own boat. I'm gonna need your help convincing them that they can trust me".
Kate asked, "Why should I trust you".
The monster answered "Because I could kill you, Kate, right here, right now. And I can kill every single one of your friends. And there's not a thing that you could do to stop me. But instead of killing you, I saved your life, and now I wanna save them, too. So, will you help me".
In the cage Lapidus remarked "I can't believe I trusted that guy".
Sawyer responded "Well Franky, you're not alone. I shouldn't have either".
Lapidus exclaimed "He had a gun to my head. And was about to pull the trigger. Hey, what was that about being able to kill me but not any of you".
Sawyer said, "You don't want to know".
Lapidus responded "You're probably right. I don't".
The power went out and Lapidus knew something bad was happening. Charles's people realise this and are about to turn the generator on when the monster attacks. Hurley remarks that they're dead when it begins attacking and killing Charles's people. One of Widmore's people in thrown against the cage and dies. Sawyer sees the keys and says, "I think I can reach them".
Sawyer attempts to grab them and Hurley remarks "Hurry. When that thing's done with them, he's coming for us". Lapidus says that he's not waiting and tries to kick the cage door open.
Kate grabs the keys and opens the cage. Sawyer asks, "What are you doing here".
They heard the sounds of the monster and Kate answered, "I'm with him. Now come on". Everybody fled the cages into the jungle. Lapidus led them to the plane and Kate asked, "How much further to the plane".
Lapidus answered "About a quarter mile, just over that ridge".
Sun asked "So, you're coming with us now".
Kate answered "I'm gonna take you to the plane, but I'm not getting on it. I still have work I need to do here".
Sun said, "You're going back for Claire aren't you".
Kate said, "I need to find someway to get them off. It's the least I can do after everything I've done".
Sawyer said "Thanks for coming back for us, Freckles. Appreciate it".
Sayid come out of the jungle, and they aim their guns at him. Kate tells them "No, it's okay. Sayid's with us. He was the one who turned off the generators". Sawyer remarked sarcastically that it was great because the more the merrier. Sayid told them that they needed to go because the monster was waiting. The monster kills the guards by the plane and takes one of their watches before investigating the plane and finding explosives. They make it to the plane and Lapidus says that they're gonna see what it takes to make the plane fly. Thy then see the dead guards and Sayid checked out the bodies and remarked that his neck was broken. The monster said that it was because he broke it and then said that Charles knew he'd kill these men. Sawyer wanted to know what the monster meant, and the monster answered that they were only guarding the plane for show, and if Charles wanted to stop the monster getting aboard, he wouldn't have moved his fences. Hurley asked if Charles now wanted them to get off the island and the monster said that Charles wanted them all in the same place and the same time where he could kill them all. Sawyer asked what Charles would kill them with, and the monster showed him the C4 explosives that was wired to the electricals of the plane and if they turned it on then the plane would have exploded. Jin asked what they were going to do now and the monster said that the plane was no longer safe so they're gonna take the submarine. Sawyer was happy to hear this and said that it was what he was saying all along. Hurley doesn't want to because the monster isn't supposed to leave the island because it's what Richard said but Sawyer disregards this and says that he was wrong about the monster since that's the second time he's saved them. The monster thanked Sawyer and said that they'll need everyone because the submarine is gonna be heavily defended. Kate said, "I'll help you but like I said, I'm not going with you".
The monster accepted this and said, "Fair enough". He then said to everyone "Let's go".
The monster led them to the submarine and Sawyer whispered to Kate "Hey Kate, listen up. You wanna go back for Claire and her family, I accept that. But I'm gonna ask you for one last favour. I don't' trust that thing one bit, so here's what I need you to do. Once we get to the dock, you make sure it doesn't get on the sub".
Kate asked "How am I supposed to do that. You saw what it did to those men back there".
Sawyer said "Just get it in the water. I'll take care of the rest". They arrive at the submarine and Sawyer remarks "Just because there aren't any goons on the dock doesn't mean they ain't on the sub. We're going in hard you got it. You think you two can get our backs".
Kate answered "Absolutely".
Sawyer said "all right. Let's go home".
The monster said "Hold on one minute. Kate, if you're not taking this at least take this".
The monster handed her a backpack and Kate asked, "What's this for".
The monster answered "If you're gonna be staying on the island. You'll need it".
Kate accepted and said "Thanks".
Sawyer asked the monster "Are we ready to go now".
The monster answered, "Of course James".
Sawyer said "Good. Let's go".
Everyone ran down the dock and Sawyer opened it and checked for guards. When he saw no one. He began letting everyone down. Lapidus immediately went down and found someone who he aimed his gun at and said, "Where's your captain". Lapidus walked the man to the captain when he knocked him out and aimed his gun at the captain and said to the guy, he knocked out that it was nothing personal. He then directed his attention to the captain and said "all right. How about you turn her on and get us the hell of this island".
Everyone was climbing down and after Sayid climbed down it was just Sawyer, Kate, and the monster on top. Kate said "You know what. I've changed my mind. I'm coming with you".
The monster responded, "That's great Kate I was hoping that you would".
Kate pushed the monster into the water and Kate said "Go now. Get off this island".
Kate was shot in the shoulder by one of Widmore's people. Sawyer screamed "Kate". He immediately rushed down and began firing at the tree where the shooter was and shot him dead. Sawyer then went over to Kate and said "Don't worry. I've got you". Sawyer then realised he was being shot at by more of Widmore's people and picked Kate up carrying her to the submarine. Sayid came up and as Sawyer reached the submarine Sayid grabbed Kate and helped her down. The monster got out of the water and began firing at the firing at Widmore's people. Sawyer got into the submarine and called out "Locke". The monster turned and called back Sawyer's name. Sawyer said Sawyer mockingly shouts "bye" before he slams the hatch door shut.
Sayid helped Kate in and said "Hurley, find a first aid kit for Kate".
Hurley responded, "On it dude".
Sawyer then climbed down and called Lapidus and ordered him to dive. Lapidus told the captain to go. The submarine began to sail away, and the monster smiled. Sawyer came into are where everyone was, and Kate asked "What did you do. What's happening".
Sayid said "Stay calm Kate. Lie back at let me help you".
Sawyer said to Kate "Sorry Freckles but we had to go. I was not gonna let you stay on that island".
Kate muttered "Claire. I have to go back for them. I can't leave them on the island".
Sawyer asked Sayid "Is she gonna be okay".
Hurley came back and said "Sayid, I can't find that first aid kit, dude".
Sayid said "I'm gonna do my best. Now Jin, search that backpack there might be something we can use in there I can use for pressure".
Jin gave it to Sayid and said, "Here. Can you help her".
Sayid answered, "I think the bullet went straight through".
Sayid found the bomb and Sawyer asked "What".
Sayid pulled the bomb out and looked at it seeing the timer ticking down. Hurley said "Dude, where'd that come from".
Sayid answered "I think it's obvious. Locke". He then told everyone "We have to get to the surface". Sawyer exclaimed what the hell and "We have to get to the surface right now". Sayid checked out the bomb and Jin ordered Lapidus for them to surface. Lapidus told the captain to surface them.
Hurley asked "Dude, how did that get on the sub".
Kate said "Locke put it in my pack. He knew that Sawyer wasn't gonna let me stay and that I'd be here".
Jin asked "Why would he do that. He wanted to come with us".
Sawyer said that's why he shut him out and Kate retorted "Yeah, he knew that, James. He knew that and he knew that you wouldn't let me stay and I'd accept the pack because I was staying. He knew you'd shut him out".
Sawyer was shocked by this before turning to Sayid and asking "Do you have any idea how it works. Can we disable it".
Sayid examined the bomb and said "This watch is jury-rigged to the battery. The battery detonates the explosives". Sawyer called Lapidus wanting to know how much time they had until they surfaced and when Lapidus answered it was five minutes, Sawyer hung up and exclaimed that they didn't have five minutes. Sawyer turned back to Sayid wanting to know what they had to do, and Sayid said that the wires leads from the watch and if they disconnect them then technically the bomb should be inert. Sawyer asked technically and Sayid said that they had to pull them out simultaneously. Sayid said he was not sure, and Sawyer told him to step aside.
Sawyer went to pull, and Kate tried to sit up and said "Wait. Please, no. Stop".
Sawyer turned to Kate and asked, "what is it Freckles".
Kate said "Nothing's gonna happen".
Sawyer asked "What".
Kate said "Don't pull those wires out. We're okay. Nothing's gonna happen".
Sawyer responded, "If I don't pull these wires, Locke's gonna blow us to kingdom come".
Kate said "No, he's not. Locke can't kill us".
Hurley asked "Uh, what".
Kate said "This is what he wanted. This has been what he's been waiting for. Everything he has done has been to get us here. Us. Not anybody else. He wanted to get us all in the same place at the same time a nice, enclosed space where we had no hopes of getting out of".
Jin said, "I don't understand".
Kate said "Locke wanted to leave the island with us but could kill us at any moment. And after everything we did, he still kept us alive and still wanted us to come with him. So, what if he didn't was because he wasn't allowed to. What if he needed us dead to leave the island but wasn't allowed to kill us. What if he wants us to kill ourselves".
Sawyer said, "Stay out of this Kate".
Sawyer went to pull the wires, but Kate said "If he wanted that thing to blow up, why would he put a timer in it. Why not just throw it inside".
Sawyer responded, "I don't care".
Kate said, "Nothing is gonna happen".
Sawyer retorted "It's not your decision to make".
Kate yelled "He can't kill us".
Sawyer said, "I'm not gonna stand here and do nothing".
Kate pleaded "James. We are gonna be okay. Please, trust me".
Sawyer "Sorry Kate, I don't".
Sawyer pulled the wires, and the watch stopped before counting down fast. Sayid told them all Now everyone, listen carefully. There's a well on the main island a half mile South from the camp we just left. Desmond's inside it. Locke wants him dead, which means that you're going to need him. Do you all understand".
Sawyer asked, "Why are you saying this Sayid".
Sayid answered, "Because you're gonna need to stop Locke".
Sayid picked up the bomb and ran down the corridor. Hurley called out after Sayid. Sayid ran as far as he could and went into a small room when the bomb exploded and killed Sayid instantly. The submarine shook and sent everyone to the floor and pinned Sun against the wall. Lapidus tried to get down to the area with everybody else when he heard the door about to go and exclaimed oh hell. The door blew and went flying into Lapidus.
Water came flooding in and started to fill up the submarine. Sawyer got up and seeing Kate under the water picked her up. Sawyer went over to Hurley and asked if he was okay. Hurley wanted to know what happened to Sayid and Jin saw that Sun was trapped and rushed to help her. Jin called out for Sawyer's help and Sawyer responded "In a minute Jin. Hold on". Sawyer said "Hugo. You gotta take Kate and get outta here".
Hurley asked, "What about everybody else".
Sawyer said "I'll save Jin and Sun. You just get her out of here".
Sawyer grabbed and air tank and Hurley told him "I have to go after Sayid".
Sawyer told him "There is no Sayid. Listen to me Hugo. Take this tank and buddy breath. Swim out where the blast hole is and get back to the island. Okay. You got this Hugo".
Hurley accepted and said "Okay".
Sawyer told them "Go". Sawyer rushed to help Jin with Sun as Hurley helped Kate out of the submarine. Sawyer asked Jin "What do you need".
Jin said "Help. Help me on three. One. Two. Three". They struggled and as they pulled, they hit bump and the submarine shook nearly hitting Sawyer in the head and freeing Sun from the large item box off of Sun revealing that she was trapped metal structure pinning her to the wall. Jin said, "We need to get it off her now".
They both began pulling but it wouldn't work or budge. Sun told them "You two need to go. I'm stuck and I'm not getting free".
Jin responded "No".
Sun said, "Save yourselves".
Sawyer said, "We're not leaving you Sun".
Jin said, "I'm gonna get you out of here".
Sawyer said, "Don't worry Sun, we're gonna do it together".
They both pulled but it wasn't working. Sawyer screamed and said "Why isn't it budging. She's trapped".
Jin said "Go. Go. I'll get her free".
Sawyer said "Jin, you can't do this alone. You can only save her with my help".
Jin said "Go now. Save yourself. I can do this".
Sawyer grabbed an air tank and said "Jin. Take this. I can get out without it".
Jin responded "No, you can't James. Just go".
Sawyer responded, "You'll die".
Jin said "So will you if you stay. Go".
Jin began pulling trying to free Sun and Sawyer said "I'm sorry about your daughter. She would have loved to meet you Jin".
Sun said "Go Sawyer. Now".
Jin yelled "Go".
Sawyer said "Goodbye. Thanks for sticking with me these three years. I couldn't do it without you".
Jin responded "Me neither. Now go save yourself". Sawyer accepted and left moving through the submarine and swimming to the blast hole where he swam up to the surface. Jin continues to save Sun, and she tries to get him to go and save himself, but he refuses because he will not leave her. Jin tells her that he loves her, and she responds that she loves him as well. They kiss and hold hands as the water rises, and they both drown together.
Sawyer swam back to the island and arrived on the beach. Upon arriving Sawyer collapsed in the sand and Kate rushed over to him. Kate hugged Sawyer and said "James, I couldn't find you. I couldn't".
Hurley asked "How are you. Are you okay".
Sawyer answered, "I'm fine Hugo, I'm fine".
Kate asked, "What about Jin and Sun". Sawyer shook his head and all three were devastated over their deaths and began to cry. Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley hugged each other and cried over the loss of their friends. The monster knows that some of the candidates are still alive and goes out to finish what he started.
