AN: New Chapter! Thank you once again to those who have been reading and keeping up with Rose and Scorp's story. Lots more exciting things to come! Thanks for sticking by them (and me). All the love!
The next morning, Rose was up early to go meet Scorpius. After changing into her robes, she walked softly, careful not to wake up any of the other girls in the dormitory. On her way to the astronomy tower, she felt overwhelmed with nerves and curiosity. Once she arrived and stood outside a large wooden door, Rose took a soft breath and stepped inside. "Scorp?"
Scorpius was very nervous about meeting Rose in the morning so he hardly slept. He remembered what Albus had said. But Scorpius had a difficult time believing that an incredible girl like Rose could have feelings for him beyond friendship. When he saw her enter and call for him, looking equally apprehensive as he was, Scorpius gave her a shy smile, "Hey Rosie... "
Rose returned the smile at the use of her nickname, as she shut the door behind her. "Here I am…." She said softly, not realizing she'd begun tugging at a strand of hair "What did you want to talk about?"
Scorpius saw her tugging at her hair and couldn't help but grin. He knew that was her signature habit for when she was feeling uncomfortable or nervous. In this case it was the latter. And cheekily, he had to admit he kind of liked having that effect on her. "I….I saw you at the Great Hall yesterday... With Lorcan..." He mumbled then looked back up at her "I'm sorry... I almost ruined things between you two... I'm sorry that I let my emotions get the better of me... That day…."
Rose met his eyes, quietly glancing down at the ground "Lorcan and I broke up..."
Scorpius looked at her with sorrow because all he truly cared about was that Rose was happy. Even if it was with someone else. And seeing her mourn the loss of her relationship with Lorcan, broke his heart. "It's all my fault… If I hadn't said any of those things at Christmas…If I'd just-"
"Did you mean it?" Rose said, interrupting his rambling "What you said at Christmas...did you mean it?" She asked, tears beginning to fall from the corner of her eyes. She recalled that Scorpius had also been drinking that evening, so perhaps he hadn't been in control of his way, she needed to know.
Scorpius froze, looking away from Rose, after a moment he spoke."You know I can't lie to you..." He said, meeting her eyes again.
Rose felt more cold tears roll down her cheeks. Scorpius loved her. All this time, he'd loved her. Just like she had always felt the same for him. She gave him a sad smile, nodding slightly, trying to keep her emotions at bay.
Scorpius noticed this and dared to step just a bit closer towards her. "Rose?…Rose, please say something…" he said softly.
Rose also took a step or two closer towards Scorpius, she nervously grabbed another strand of hair. "I…" She said, taking a breath she didn't know she'd been holding "I…love you too…"
Scorpius smiled wide, finally closing the distance between them and wrapped his arm around Rose's waist while his other hand cupped her cheek. He bent down and kissed her softly. He lingered for a few seconds then pulled away.
Rose looked up at Scorpius smiling as he rubbed his thumb gently across her now rosy cheek wiping away some stray tears. His arms now rested around her waist as he held her.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that…" Scorpius said with a grin.
"Me too." Rose smiled leaning forward to kiss him again then pulled away looking into those blue eyes she loved so much. "You knew….didn't you?"
Scorpius gave her a sheepish smile but nodded.
"But how-" Rose said but paused, as the realization hit her "Albus…" She was suddenly plotting a hundred different hexes to practice on her cousin.
As if reading her mind, Scorpius chuckled and gently tugged her closer, his chin resting on the top of her head. "Don't be too angry with Al…" He mumbled into her hair "I was an idiot…Thanks to Al's big mouth and the fact that he can't keep a secret, I took a risk…thinking you'd come up here to break my heart…"
Rose glanced up at him, giving him a sad smile. "No, Scorp…' she said putting a hand on his cheek "Merlin…if only we'd known before…"
"We know now…" Scorpius replied, taking her hands in his and raising them up to his lips, kissing Rose's palm. He took a deep breath "Ros…I do want to be with you, but…"
"But…?" Rose asked softly.
Scorpius gave her hand a squeeze "And Lorcan…?"
"I was honest with him...after we spoke, he left and I haven't seen him since then… " Rose sighed "He's a good guy Scorp. He understands…He must hate me now."
"No one could ever hate you, love…" Scorpius said, kissing her forehead. He pulled her out to the balcony of the tower, leaning against the brick wall of the castle, Rose's back to him, his arms around sun was just about to rise, casting an incandescent gleam across the black lake.
"Do you see that?" Scorpius whispered into her ear pointing towards the sky which was a mix of orange and yellow hues.
Rose smiled, nodding.
"Well that's how I see you…" Scorpius continued "Breathtaking…rare…orange…" he smirked.
"Oi!" Rose said, playfully elbowing him in the ribs but her smile was unwavering.
"Ow!" Scorpius chuckled and they watched the sunrise together.
Moments later they realized classes would begin soon, so they walked hand in hand down the steps of astronomy tower and stopped just outside the corridor of the fourth floor. "See you at breakfast?" Scorpius said, tucking a strand of loose hair behind Rose's ear.
Rose nodded, smiling "Breakfast."
Scorpius grinned leaning down to peck her lips as he and Rose headed towards their respective common rooms.
…..
Rose couldn't be happier. After so many years of lingering looks, small moments and hidden feelings, she and Scorpius were finally together. She arrived at Gryffindor Tower and upon entering the girls dormitory, she was relieved to see most of the girls were still asleep. Rose took advantage of this fact, stepping into the shower and getting ready for the day. About half an hour later, she gathered her books and began walking down towards the Great Hall for breakfast. Rose had to admit, she felt the exhaustion catch up with her as a result of the emotional roller coaster she'd endured the second she'd step foot back into Hogwarts.
Back in the Slytherin Common Room, Scorpius was rushing to get ready and changed into his uniform. He suddenly felt his stomach doing flips at the thought of seeing Rose again soon. Of course, she always had that effect on him. Rose…His Rose…His best friend…His…Girlfriend…Scorpius smiled. He liked the sound of that.
As he finished lacing up his shoes, he turned to the sleeping figure of Albus on the next bed over, then casting a stinger to wake him up. Albus woke up with a start to see Scorpius twirling his wand in his hand.
"If you don't get up soon Al, you'll miss breakfast." Scorpius snickered with a grin.
"Oi you bloody lunatic! You could have just nudged me awake!" Albus said grumpily as he sat up. He was not a morning person. Glaring at Scorpius, he noticed his friend's expression. "What's with the goofy grin?"
"Rose and I spoke this morning…." Scorpius said cryptically.
That immediately woke Albus up, eyes wide he stood up. "You did? And...?" He said tentatively.
"And…nothing". Scorpius smirked, knowing full well that Albus was getting irritated.
Albus frowned, leaning over his bed and grabbing his weapon of choice, throwing the pillow at Scorpius' face. "Just tell me, you git."
Scorpius chuckled, easily dodging the pillow. "You see, I would...but I'm running rather late" Scorpius said walking towards the door of the dormitory and leaning against it "You know., people to meet, things to see." He said running out of the common room.
"Oi!" Albus called after him frowning, hurling another pillow towards the door. But Scorpius had already shut it, just in time.
…
Rose was sitting in the Great Hall with Lily as the two girls ate their breakfast. Moments later Scorpius also arrived and spotted Rose towards the far end of the Gryffindor table. He walked up to her while she was distracted talking to Lily and took the empty seat beside her. Rose turned around and smiled at him. Scorpius had placed a cheeky hand on her knee. Rose was about to elbow Scorpius in the ribs.
Lily noticed this and raised an eyebrow "What's going on between you too?" She asked bluntly.
"Nothing." Rose and Scorpius replied at the same time. Lily looked at them skeptically as a sleepy-looking Albus entered the Great Hall. When he saw Scorpius at the Gryffindor table, he made his way over, taking a seat beside Lily. Ruffling her hair, he then turned to his friend giving him a questioning look.
Scorpius quickly removed his hand from Rose's knee and started grabbing some fruit, placing it distractedly on his plate, ignoring the frustrated Potter siblings sitting in front of him.
Of course Albus proceeded to kick Scorpius under the table. Scorpius looked up and glared at his best friend "What?!"
"What is going on with you two?" He demanded, echoing his sister's earlier sentiments.
Scorpius turned to Rose as if silently asking if he could reveal the nature of their new relationship. Rose bit her lip, contemplating it for a moment. She knew Scorpius was trying to be discreet for her benefit as she had only just ended things with Lorcan the previous day. But she smiled. Leaning forward she glanced around the Great Hall to make sure they weren't being overheard. "Ok, fine we'll tell you, but only if you promise not to say a word...especially you Al..." she said looking directly at her cousin. She hadn't forgotten that Albus had been the culprit at revealing to Scorpius her feelings for him before she could do so that, she knew she could trust her cousins.
Albus gave her a nervous innocent look as if appalled by the insinuation, but Lily spoke for both of them, "We promise Rosie.."
Rose nodded and gave Scorpius a small smile, while he grinned back, before turning her attention back to her cousins. "We're together…."
Lily stared at them with wide eyes and a smile that said she was about to burst but thankfully managed to control herself. Unfortunately her brother wasn't as poised. Albus jumped out of his seat "You guys! That's what you were hiding from me this morning Scorp?!" Scorpius just nodded "Git!" Albus exclaimed before leaning over across the table, wrapping his best friends in a hug.
Rose smiled widely, patting Albus' back as he hugged them."Al...can't breathe..." she
"I don't care!" Albus said not moving an inch, until Lily had to all but pull him off of Rose and Scorpius.
"Settle down crazy child..." Lily scolded as Albus pouted sitting back in his seat. "By the way, you owe me 20 gallons...I told you they'd get together soon." She said grinning.
""Fine." Albus glared at his sister then looked at Scorpius, "Scorp, my best friend, can you lend me 20 gallons?"
Scorpius raised an eyebrow "What happened to the gallons I gave you last month?"
Albus deadpanned "I used them to buy your Christmas present, obviously..."
Scorpius rolled his eyes but chuckled and looked over at Lily ,"Are you sure he isn't crazy? Did your father drop him on the head when he was younger?"
"James and I believe he's adopted..." Lily shrugged, taking a bite of her food; Rose giggled at her comment.
Albus squawked at them as he stood up to chase Scorpius who was already halfway out of the Great Hall.
Rose and Lily laughed watching the boys' antics. Rose stood up, shaking her head. "I better head to class now too. Before your brother kills my boyfriend." She said with a small smile.
Lily gave her a smirk "Boyfriend…Has a nice ring to it doesn't it, Mrs. Malfoy?"
Rose blushed at Lily's comment but smiled and left to catch up with the boys. It did sound nice…
…..
"Scorp!" Albus shouted once he'd chased Scorpius to the corridor just near the entrance to their next class. "You git."
Scorpius came to a stop laughing like a maniac at the state Albus was in. "You were the one chasing me like a lunatic Al!" He said in between laughs.
Albus pouted almost childishly before punching Scorpius in the arm. "You prick! Why didn't you tell me about you and Rosie this morning?! I'm your best friend!"
Scorpius rubbed his arm and said, "I saved your life mate! Rose wanted to leave you in the Forbidden Forest because you told me her deepest darkest secret." he said with a smirk.
Albus paled "You told her I told you?!" He said punching Scorpius again ""Are you mad?!"
"Ouch! And how do you reckon I explained the fact that I knew how she felt, dumb ass?" Scorpius deadpanned.
"She's going to kill me..." Albus muttered.
Rose had caught up to them and snuck up behind Albus, making him jump a bit, much to her and Scorpius' amusement. "Who's going to kill you, Al?" She smirked.
Albus froze, turning around. There was Rosie who had inherited uncle Ron's legendary temper and she was standing behind him, wand in hand..."N-nothing Rosie..." He said with a nervous chuckle, slowly starting to back away into the classroom.
Rose raised an eyebrow and glared at her cousin, moving just a bit closer as he continued shifting backwards towards the stifled back laughter at Albus' panicked face. She grabbed his arm and did something completely unexpected. She leaned forward hugging him tightly. "Thanks Al..." she said softly.
Albus looked at Scorpius as Rose embraced him. Scorpius nodded at his best friend, smiling. Albus hugged Rose back, gently rubbing her back. "Anytime, sister."
Rose smiled, touched at him referring to her as his sister, before pulling away. "I'm so happy Scorp talked me out abandoning you in the Forbidden Forest and having the centaurs be your new family..." She said sweetly.
Scorpius burst into laughter at Albus' face before Rose took his arm and the two of them walked into the classroom. A whining Albus followed suit.
It was an interesting lesson to say the least. The professors were putting more pressure on the students due to examinations lingering on the horizon. Generally Hogwarts professors would put in practice a steady pace and revise, so less advanced students could have an opportunity to catch up. Only a couple of days in since the return from Holiday Break, it was clear to staff and students that theory and "bookish" knowledge was fading away to make way for application. It had all begun with Care of Magical Creatures and that model had ignited more interest from students in Hagrid's course. But it was evident….Major changes were happening in the castle.
…..
Weeks later, one sunny Tuesday afternoon, Scorpius was sitting by the Black Lake with his back leaning against a tree while Rose sat beside him, book on her lap and her head resting on Scorpius' shoulder. Scorpius smiled at her kissing the top of her head then took her hand in his. There was something that he had been thinking about recently, something that had been plaguing his mind for days. "Rose…?" he said, running a thumb across her palm.
Rose looked up at him from her book "Hmm?"
"Have you…Have you told your parents about us yet?" He asked softly.
Rose glanced down at their intertwined hands, sighing "Mum knows...she's happy for us. " she said with a smile, enjoying the soft wind hitting her face. Her smile then faded "But my dad...I haven't told him yet..."
Scorpius gave her hand a squeeze but frowned nevertheless. He knew would be approving of them, but he also knew how much love Rose held for Mr. Weasley and how important it was for her that he accepted their relationship too. They were practically alike after all.
"I want to tell him Scorp…" Rose continued, softly "It's just…he can be hot-headed sometimes…"
Scorpius hugged her tighter and kissed the back of her head, "I can talk to him…" He said with determination. "He'll see how much I love you."
Rose shifted in her spot to look at him, eyes wide "You want to talk to my father? Alone? About us?"
"I don't want to…" " Scorpius admitted, rubbing the back of his neck nervously "He scares the hell out of me…But for you? Anything."
Rose smiled, then chuckled softly, rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb. "Then let's wait..why don't we...just keep this our secret...? At least for now."
"Well I think our secret's out already, love…" Scorpius grinned, gesturing towards a group of students passing by the lake.
Rose giggled as she and Scorpius stood up, gathering their belongings before their next lesson. Suddenly a group of giggling third year girls approached the couple.
"Hi Scorpius!" One of them said timidly.
Scorpius glanced at Rose who smirked before turning back to the girls. "Umm, hello Miss…?"
"Clearwater. Emily Clearwater." The girl replied brightly, with her two friends also giggling behind her. "We were wondering if you'd like to study with us." She said and they all broke into giggles again.
Meanwhile, Rose was biting her lip to keep from laughing, she looked over at Scorpius with a small grin.
Scorpius frowned, scratching the back of his head, confused. "I-uh, well you see I have my O.W.L. exams coming up, and I do not have the time so-"
"You could tutor us!" One of the other girls piped up. And the other two nodded furiously in agreement. Rose felt herself enjoying this encounter far too much to step in and save Scorpius. Her boyfriend, bless his heart, was sometimes adorably oblivious. Maybe that's why it took him so long to realize she was in love with him.
With a chuckle Rose decided to put Scorpius out of his misery. Linking her arm with his, she gave him a kiss on the cheek then glanced at the three girls with a wide smile. "Sorry ladies, but he's far too busy studying...with me."
Scorpius blushed but nodded. The girls looked deflated but left without saying a word. Emily did look back as the trio were leaving, glancing at Scorpius with a pout.
Scorpius sighed "That was…strange.I don't remember being that worried about exams in third year…"
Rose smirked "Umm Scorp...I don't think they were actually that worried about studying at all..."
Scorpius felt the wind start to pick up as they walked back up to the castle, so he instinctively wrapped his arm around Rose's shoulder to keep her warm. "What do you mean? Then why-"
"Because you're older and handsome, obviously..." Rose grinned "Studying was just their excuse to talk to you..."
Scorpius blushed but smirked "You think I'm handsome?"
Rose rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. "Boys, I swear…"
Scorpius gaped "Us? It's you girls being confusing all the time!"
Rose looked at him in mock shock "Oh we're confusing?! Because we practically tell you boys exactly what we're feeling?" She said, with a playful grin. Rose always treasured this about her relationship with Scorpius, even before they were a couple. How they were always able to tease one another, be vulnerable with each other...and it always ended in laughter. More recently though, it ended in kissing. She preferred the latter, clearly.
Scorpius grinned before picking up Rose bridal style and began running towards the lake with her in his arms. Stopping just at the edge before the water could hit his shoes.
Rose gasped as she glanced down at the water below before turning back to Scorpius "Malfoy, you wouldn't dare."
"What are you gonna do about it, Weasley?" Scorpius smirked, leaning forward, his face just inches away from Rose's.
Rose ignored the somersaults her stomach was doing whenever Scorpius was near. But she wasn't going to allow him to have the upper hand. She gave him a sweet smile."This,"she said before leaning forward her lips grazed his, as she cupped his cheek.
Seconds later, Rose hopped off of Scorpius' arm, laughing as she ran up to the castle.
Stunned, Scorpius stared after his red-headed girlfriend. "Merlin." He mumbled with a smile, not quite believing how lucky he was.
